Helen (10/5): We had an amazing stay. Luxurious cottages, great facilities and welcoming and helpful hosts - We were a big group and Downe Cottages worked really well for us. Our hosts greeted us and gave us lots of helpful information about the local area and places to visit and were really accommodating. The location is beautiful and the cottages were full of character but also a really high standard. We loved using the gym and hot tub facilities there. We would definitely go back!

Die eine Toilettenspülung hat erst schlecht, dann gar nicht mehr funktioniert, das war etwas nervig. Der Spabereich ist ein wenig in die Jahre gekommen, daher "nur" die 9 Punkte.

Kay (10/5): - Just home from a fantastic stay at Downe Cottages. We stayed in Vine and everything was perfect. The hosts were so friendly and helpful with some nice touches on arrival - wine and chocolates. Thank you! We really enjoyed using the Jacuzzi at the end of the day after walking the SW coast path. Hartland itself is a beautiful part of the world with stunning North Devon coastline.

jane (10/5): Lovely peaceful retreat. - Really lovely cottages. Well equipped, cosy, comfortable. Nice sea views from the courtyard. Great communal facilities too - sunny lounge, spa pool and sauna, well equipped gym. A perfect compromise between wanting self catering space, whilst also getting much of what is offered in a nice hotel. We had a few issues (not related to the property) which the owners tried to help us with. Not the owners fault but Booking.com had advertised this as a 2 bedroom property. The owners are aware there is an issue, and are trying to rectify it with booking.com, who are not being helpful. Watch for the potholes on local roads. We got a puncture. Follow the owners directions rather than satnav for better roads in.

Mark (9/5): Peaceful break, good place to relax - Cottage was very nice, had everything you could think of. Bedding and towels were exceptional. The bottle of wine and chocolates left by the hosts was a very nice touch. Our bedroom was huge and had lots of wardrobe and drawer space. The luxury dressing gowns were lovely. It was very peaceful Internet was an issue but not the fault of the owner. He was sorting a new provider. Good if you like hilly walking but unfortunately one of us couldn't do hills so that was disappointing. Long drive to supermarkets

Jackie (10/5): Perfect getaway - The cottage was a real home from home, very comfortable and cosy. A wood burner was available (we obviously didn't use it in the heatwave) which was lovely. TV with Sky and Netflix, also chocolates and wine left by Jeremy and Lynda which was so thoughtful. There is a spa, sauna, hot tub, gym and library for guests to use. Jeremy and Lynda are very easy to chat to but not at all intrusive. The area is stunning!! We aim to come back later in the year for more home comforts and exploring.

Emilia (10/5): Lovely cottage in rural location - Amazing location, quiet and close to the coast. Hartland is only 30 minutes walk away with lovely pubs. Lovely hiking routes. Cottage was cosy and clean, bed very comfortable and water pressure in the shower amazing. You have everything you need to cook if you wanted to and also dishwasher and washing machine. There is a spa with sauna and hot tub, little gym and library you can use after your daily activities. Jeremy was very friendly and helpful! We loved every minute there and we will definitely be back. We loved everything!

He explained everything on arrival, was on hand to answer any questions and provide advice. The cottage was a 'real home from home' for our break over Christmas, with fantastic walks on the coast right on the doorstep. Facilities on hand were great, with the gym and wellness area, meaning location is still lovely whatever the weather. Thanks again Jeremy for a wonderful break, we will be back. N/A

Lovely Gym and spa, plus a fab library of books, plenty of games and a perfect conservatory to sit and take advantage of them in. It's a little taste of luxury in paradise. (even in more inclement weather)
Michael (10/5): Spot on - in every way! - We have just enjoyed a 3-night stay in Clematis Cottage at Downe Cottages, Hartland. Our host Jeremy is a charming man who clearly has his hand on all aspects of his business. As one arrives at this ‘mini estate’ one drives up an impressive driveway that crosses a perfectly groomed lawn. The parking facilities are the next surprise. The floor of a huge barn is marked out with proper parking places on a well-lit spotless concrete floor. The cottages are behind this building and laid out in a quadrangle. Ours was two stories with a fairly wide staircase that lands in the middle of the bedroom suite comprising a huge bedroom-come-lounge area with ensuite bathroom off. A sofa for two sits in front of the upstairs TV area, the luxurious King bed nearby is positioned to get a good view of the TV too. Better still is the view across the fields to the sea, Lundy and Wales. Downstairs features two generous settees and a big TV which I used to stream my Netflix account’s offerings. The kitchen dining area has absolutely everything one could wish for. Apart from Dishwasher, washing machine etc it even had a roll of cling film and foil! Jeremy thinks of everything. The piece de resistance is the property’s central building which features a huge beautifully furnished lounge, a well-equipped Gym, two Steam rooms and Jacuzzi. Without hesitation we highly recommend this property – Just Fabulous. We were delighted that the property operates a no dog policy as we have fewer and fewer choices nowadays in this regard. Mark (9/5): Beautiful, well equipped cottages in great location. - The location near the North Devon coast is superb, easy access to Hartland Point, the Lighthouse and Hartland Quay. Bude is nearby if you fancy a beach trip in the better weather. The spa facilities are great, the gym is quite small but well equipped with machines and dumbells up to 20kg. All the bedrooms were ensuite which was great as we were travelling with my 90 year old Mother. The cottage facilities are excellent and beds really comfortable with a really well equipped kitchen and an outside seating area for good weather. Robes are provided to access the spa and sweat and spa towells included. We had a small issue with the TV overheating but Jeremy replaced it without hesitation, the communication was great from him.
David (10/5): Exceptional - The information given by the host was 2nd to none. They were friendly, polite and very welcoming. Would stay here again. Board games, chess set or playing cards would have been a nice touch to the cottage.

Ashley (10/5): Everything you could want for a country getaway by the beach. In a word, stunning!! - My partner and I were so impressed with Downe Cottage. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by a wonderful host, Jeremy, who was incredibly welcoming. He gave us the guided tour of his incredible place and was extremely helpful and informative. We were welcomed with a lovely bottle of wine and chocolates and were made to feel special. The cottage had everything we needed and the location was absolutely stunning. We just wish we were there for longer! Everything was perfect!

Situated in a stunning part of Devon this really was a home from home in which to discover some new sights and revisit old haunts. We would definitely consider booking this property again in the future. The mattress was a little hard for our liking.

Richard (9/5): This is a fabulous complex to stay in to feel the tranquillity of North Devon and relax. - The cottage was everything it was supposed to be, very comfortable and spacious, all facilities required were provided and it was warm and cosy or light and airy depending on the weather and temperature. It's in a super rural area but you're still close enough to Hartland village to get supplies or go to a pub or the cafe if you feel like it. We had a fabulous time. The surrounding area is gorgeous with many lovely places to visit. There are many walks or cycle rides in the area if you don't mind a few steep hills. Hartland Quay and the coastal path along the spectacular cliffs are high points.

Paul (9/5): Very relaxing, quiet area with essentials provided, local shops/pubs. - The quiet position of the cottages, spa facilities, gym, quiet area in the on-site conservatory and the friendly owners, who made our stay and use of facilities so welcoming. Beds could be a little more comfortable, would be nice to have a top sheet instead of just a duvet. Signals on some tv channels are weak, as is the wifi when a few cottages are occupied.
Maisha (10/5): Very welcoming hosts who, despite our 4am arrival due to a broken down car, were ever so kind and accommodating. I truly - It was an absolutely lovely cottage. Beautiful scenery, clean, comfortable and all the rooms had en-suites that were also CLEAN. Nothing - it was perfect for what we wanted.
Veronica (9/5): A cosy cottage with a comfortable bed. Very nice decor. - From our point of view, we would normally stay somewhere within walking distance of a pub for meals but in winter this was not possible. However, in the summer it would be easy.
Mark (9/5): Fantastic, relaxing cottage with spa facilities and so peaceful. - The cottages are in a lovely, quiet location, with easy access to the coastal path and lots of walking and running trails. It was lovely to return and use the spa facilities after running and walking, the gym is also a nice touch. The jacuzzi could be available for longer hours as it's on a timer but the hosts did adjust the times for us when requested.

Fiona (8/5): Super stay - The cottage was very well appointed with everything you could possibly need. Kitchen equipment was especially good. Great to have garage parking and space to put bikes (although we chose not to bring them in the end). Thank you for the welcome gift of wine & chocolates, much appreciated. Lovely log fire & supply of wood but extra fire lighters would have been helpful. Jeremy works hard to produce a comprehensive and very useful folder of information on the area, with recommendations for places to eat, visit, shop etc. Some lovely walks and wild life too. Unfortunately there was a problem with the shower which Jeremy tried very hard to remedy and was super quick to respond. We believe a new shower will be fitted asap. Would have preferred to have the opportunity to use spa bath in the day time. As it was evenings only, we sadly didn't use the leisure facilities.

The owner had written a very informative guide on places to visit, restaurants and local facilities. Lovely walks on the door step. Nothing.

Marcus (9/5): Peaceful, quiet and soothing! - The cottages are comfortable, clean and well fitted out. It's an excellent location, with hiking trails, fantastic scenery and an awesome waterfall at Spekes mill mouth. It did feel like being in an episode of game of thrones, hiking amongst all the vast landscape, minus the sword weilding bandits and dragons! Back at the cottages, there is full access to the gym, sauna and steam which are great for use after a full day out. Peaceful, quiet and soothing, with great hosts to assist along the way, when needed!

Pamela (10/5): Lovely, luxurious stay in charming, well-equipped cottages, with rural views all the way to the sea. - Jeremy and Lynda are extremely helpful and the location was beautiful and tranquil. The only reason I didn't choose the very happiest face for 'location' was because, although there are some lovely beaches within half an hour, we found we were travelling an hour or 1 hr 15 if we wanted to do activities such as a surfing lesson at Croyde beach or coasteering at Tintagel. This was because we were holidaying with grown-up sons who like their activities and it meant a little more driving. If it was just us - a middle-aged couple wanting to explore this dramatic part of the South-West Coastal path, or perhaps if our children were much younger and only needed a beach, bucket and spade (or indeed, if we didn't mind driving), this wouldn't have been an issue at all. It is extremely convenient for good local walks, beautiful sunsets at Hartland Quay and for visiting the heritage village of Clovelly. I loved how, first thing in the morning, all you could hear were the sheep, the house martins and swallows (I think?!) and the bees, with views to the sea and Lundy Island in the distance. My husband is 6 ft 4 and, having had cause to visit one of the other cottages, I know this isn't normally an issue at Downe, but may be worth checking out if you are tall and want the ease of not having to remember to duck.

Alistair (9/5): Excellent cottage with fantastic views. Great position if you want easy access to the costal path. - The fridge was a little noisy... but we are scrapping the barrel to find anything we didn't like.
Rebeccah (7/5): Good but dated and location isnt as good as we had hoped. - The owners are friendly and helpful. The view outside of the cottages is amazing. I think the facilities are a little dated but good, we had to clean when we used anything, for example it’s expected that you clean down all the gym and spa equipment after use. The supermarket is half an hour away, the village is ok and the people are friendly but there isn’t much there only a few pubs that are basic but good value. The beaches are a drive away not many that you can walk too especially with children.
