Guest Reviews
- Vass (10/5): - Stay was great.
- Frances (10/5): Very relaxing, lovely atmosphere and staff very friendly. - We chose the Wellington Heifer due to it's location to the places we wanted to visit. The breakfast choice was good and the full English meal set you up for the day. We had a couple of delicious evening meals with the menu changing each time. Would highly recommend if staying in this part of North Yorkshire. If there had been more hanging space. There was no wardrobe which for several days worth of clothing was a bit of a pain as we had to live out our suitcase with just a couple of items hanging up, but ideal for 1 or 2 days where you don't require many changes of clothes.

- Helena (10/5): Great location - Stayed here after attending a wedding at sedgwell Barn.
Perfect location 0.6miles away. If staying for a wedding here I would recommend taking the main road to the pub instead of the country roads.
Greated at the main desk and shown to our room. Told us not to worry about coming in too late as there was a side door to use.
Lovely spacious facilities in the room

- Tracey (9/5): Excellent stay will be returning - Everything! Spotlessly clean, both evening me and breakfast delicious Staff were brilliant No fault of hotel but power cut during night therefore fire safety light came on in room and was on throughout night so no sleep at all from 1am onwards!

- Penny (9/5): Excellent location, friendly and welcoming staff, lovely pub/restaurant. - Excellent location, friendly staff.
Lovely, open log fires in the pub downstairs.
Very clean bathroom and modern fittings. I think it would be good to have some shelving in the bathroom, for personal toiletries.
- Ian (8/5): A very nice country pub with good accommodation and friendly staff. Food was very good. - A very nice country pub with good accommodation and friendly staff. Food was very good.
- Valerie (9/5): We had a lovely stay in a lovely cosy, friendly inn. Our evening meal was delicious. - The Wellington Heifer was in a great location for our stay as we visited Leyburn one day and Northallerton the next day. The breakfast was cooked well using good quality produce. I didn’t want everything on the cooked breakfast (just 4 items) so I did think I might have had an extra rash of bacon as I didn’t have a sausage and perhaps an extra tomato or mushroom as I didn’t have the beans.
- Susan (10/5): Fabulous - Fabulous hotel, food was terrific & staff were warm, friendly & welcoming
- Gary (8/5): Nice short stay for our requirements. Everything we needed@ - Nice breakfast.
Good location for getting around.
Excellent evening meal.
Friendly staff. Nothing!
All good.

- Mark (10/5): -

- Sarah (10/5): A beautifully traditional hotel with immaculate, comfortable rooms, exceptional food and freshly cooked breakfast, a war - From the moment we stepped through the door, we felt genuinely welcomed. The hotel is beautifully traditional, full of charm and thoughtful décor that immediately sets the tone for a relaxing stay. Rob and the team couldn’t have been more helpful or pleasant — nothing was too much trouble.
The bedrooms were beautiful, perfectly clean, and the bed was incredibly comfortable, making for a great night’s sleep. The food was absolutely delicious (and the wine even more so!), with perfectly kept beer adding to the experience. Breakfast the following morning was freshly cooked and equally delicious — the perfect start to the day.
The hotel’s location was ideal for our trip to the Polar Express, making everything wonderfully easy. Although we only stayed for one night, it left a lasting impression — we’ll definitely be back. Absolutely nothing!

- Paul (9/5): very comfortable room and good food - Would stay there again. - excellant breakkfast & evening meal, room warm enough and very clean & comfortable, Staff friendly and helpful lot of early morning traffic noise. Not much can be done about that as already double glazed !
- martha (9/5): - The breakfast was really nice, well cooked and very tasty, scrambled eggs cooked as we like them too!
- Tim (9/5): Lovely country pub, excellent food and comfortable accommodation - Very friendly and helpful staff
- Geoffrey (10/5): - Everything.
Welcoming, very clean, excellent decoration and a very very nice cooked breakfast.
- Craig Atkin (10/5): -
- Chris (10/5): 1 night stay to attend local wedding venue. - Cosy stylish rooms with comfortable beds. O
- Beattie (9/5): -
- Zoe (10/5): -
- James (8/5): Clean and comfortable room with friendly staff, would happily stay there again. - Clean and comfortable with exceptionally friendly staff. Location is excellent. Nice to see Aspall on tap for cider drinkers alongside Landlord for beer drinkers. Much better than the rubbish in common pubs.
The bathroom looked newly refurbished with a good shower.
The flask of fresh milk in the room to make tea is a wonderful touch.
The free wifi is sufficiently fast to actually use. The full English breakfast I had on the first morning was a bit mediocre. I couldn't quite but my finger on it but it tasted a bit flat and didn't seem of particularly good quality.
While I was very pleased to have fresh milk in the room, the flasks didn't seem to have been thoroughly washed. If one fully disassembled the lids (the sort that you click down to pour), one found it full of caked on rancid milk which smelled terrible despite the milk in the flask itself being fresh.
- Geoff (9/5): -
- PJ (3/5): - Clean and friendly staff No hot water for a shower in the morning
- Paul (9/5): Excellent spot . Would recommend - Very friendly welcome. Great staff. N/a
- Kathie (10/5): - Nice pub with good food Liked everything
- Benson (7/5): - Clean. Food not brilliant.
- Urs (9/5): Very nice place to stay. We would definitely stay again. - Lovely cosy pub, open fires and lots of atmosphere. Stylish and clean bedroom. Nice breakfast. Friendly staff. Overall a very positive experience. The bed had two single mattresses and were a bit uncomfortable. Perhaps some yoghurt and fresh fruit salat would be a good addition to the cooked breakfast.

- Chris (10/5): Another excellent stay, and I'll keep on coming back - Brilliant location, room, pub, breakfast and staff. There's a reason why I keep going back despite it being quite a distance from the location I'm travelling to
- Chris (10/5): Perfect 👌 stay made our weekend away even better - Was attending a wedding nearby so location was great service, food and friendly efficient staff made our stay even better. Nothing they facilitated both our early check-in and a later check out.
- Cooper (10/5): - The friendly welcome. Super bedrooms and great food The only thing was our broccoli and Stilton soup which we had as we arrived. It was extremely salty. But all the rest of our food was spot on.
- Shiree (9/5): Our stay at the Wellington Heifer - The ambience of the Wellington Heifer was just lovely, the staff were friendly and welcoming, our room was very spacious, clean, with very nice crisp linen on our large comfortable bed. Our dinner was absolutely delicious and the breakfast was super scummy, with tasty local produce. The location was perfect for us to visit nearby towns. There wasn't a mirror over the dressing table making it difficult to see to dry my hair, we had to take the wall mirror down and move it near a socket. This is only a tiny issue which I think could be easily solved
- john (10/5): -
- Caroline (10/5): Lovely rooms and a friendly welcome - Really cosy pub, nice rooms. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful, they were lovely.
Even though it’s on a main road there was very minimal traffic noise. Nothing that I can think of.
- Megan (10/5): Great, cozy pub with welcoming staff and delicious food - Staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. Food was delightful and the room was immaculate and comfy. Nothing
- Chris (10/5): I always make sure I stay here on my visits up north on business. Great find - I love this place and is why I try and stay here regularly when I travel north on business. Very friendly staff, excellent food, great pint, extremely comfortable and clean room. Nothing.
- Ian (10/5): Good refreshing stay on journey up to Scotland - Breakfast was good but a little dry, could have done with one more egg or beans.
Food was excellent in the evening as well as the deserts.
Will definately be back but only we are not travelling with our dog. Unfortunately the hotel doesnt allow dogs in the main rooms, although it does in the cottage next door, but you do have to book the cottage. This would be ideal if a party of 4 or more were staying.
Which means we could only book this hotel when we are travelling without our dog.
- Peter (8/5): -
- Jackie (10/5): Fabulous stay - absolutely loved it !! - Authentic old pub with fabulous modern bedroom.
Great hosts
EV charging facility
Great early evening food menu.
Food was delicious. Breakfast choices.
Great full English breakfast but no other choices.
Appreciate it is a pub not a hotel but would have liked an alternative veggie option eg avocado poached egg and sun dried toms on sourdough.
- Rebecca (10/5): Warm and friendly, lovely breakfast and welcoming staff. - We really enjoyed the warm welcome and the guy that helped us check in, did breakfast and check out was lovely and so helpful. The place was beautiful and so quaint and comfy. Breakfast was delicious and nice choice, just what we needed!
- Michael (10/5): -
- Fiona (7/5): Nice hotel but a pity about the busy road - A lovely hotel with good food and very attentive staff The position of the hotel next to a very very busy road and all the traffic noise from early to late made it really hard to sleep in what was otherwise a very pleasant room.
- Julie (10/5): A very pleasant stay in a lovely little village. - Location was very good (particularly for Mason's Ginery), the staff very helpful and friendly and the rooms clean and comfortable. Lovely food too. Nothing to not like. I was abit concerned about traffic noise but it turned out not to be an issue at all. Great night's sleep!
- Alan (10/5): - Nice friendly atmosphere. Well-appointed accommodation. Good food and service.. Overall, it is good value.
- Richard (9/5): -
- frank (10/5): -
- Helen (10/5): - Great staff food and room comfort. Only improvement would be a brighter light in the room.
- Lawrence (9/5): Very Nice - Owner and staff were very good. Would of liked a room with a window in the wall and not the roof.
- Dean (7/5): - Rooms were very basic, but quaint.
- Martin (8/5): -
- William (10/5): - Excellent old style country pub. Nice bar, friendly staff, great food, comfortable clean room. Really excellent food.
- Daniel (9/5): -
- frank (10/5): very good value for money and excellently run and managed - A very pleasant place to stay, with good rooms and excellent food. We had a comfortable stay with friendly and helpful staff. The place has a relaxed feel to it. Both breakfast and evening meals were top rate, with good choices and ingredients , cooked and presented well. Plenty of good parking and a short drive into Northallerton. The stay was too short
- Darren (7/5): - Location Noise from bar and road outside
- Anthony (10/5): Absolutely perfect 10/10 - Facilities were great, staff were very friendly and helpful allowing early check in for a nearby wedding I was attending. Breakfast was exceptional! Not one issue to report lovely place to stay
- Vikki (10/5): Excellent all round - We arrived earlier than check in ,our room was ready, we were taken up to our room by a lovely friendly lad,Room was very large, we went down to the bar,had a gorgeous meal, the bed was extremely comfortable and room was spotless, tea and coffee making facilities with lovely biscuits, breakfast was served between 8 and 9.30 again lovely staff, breakfast was a 10 out of 10,local produce and plenty of it .
- Sharon (8/5): -
- Jane (8/5): Welcoming ❤️ - Quirky little hotel, perfect for an overnight stay. Really close to the wedding venue we were attending Nothing. It was all fine.
- Bill (9/5): Good value for money and good location. Lots to do in the local area. - Excellent full English breakfast. Stayed for 2 evening meals and both were very good. Lovely room but the 2 single beds weren't very comfortable. I didn't realise they made beds that narrow. 🤔😁
- louise (10/5): I would come back would like to try a meal. - Breakfast fabulous , staff so helpful and could not do enough for us. Nothing it was all great
- Eric (9/5): - Third stay - as always very welcoming, professional and friendly staff. Excellent food in the restaurant.
Highly recommend. Nothing
