Guest Reviews
- Sarah (5/5): A place to sleep - The single bed was comfortable and the hotel was quiet at night. It was definitely a budget place. It was the bare minimum of effort and wasn’t the cleanliest. Bathroom was clean enough but round the bottom of the taps dirty, carpet looked dirty throughout the hotel and front door windows need a clean. Bed sheets were white and clean though and I slept very well. I couldn’t find a hairdryer which would have been useful.
- Valerie (9/5): Clean , comfortable. Friendly hosts - It was close to where i wanted to be. Near bus routes and local shops
- F (1/5): J - No thanks Everything

- Richard (8/5): I was looking for value for money, which the Sandhill managed to fulfil perfectly. - Breakfasts were good with adequate portions for a cooked breakfast. Room was fine. You don't expect much space in a single room. Bathroom was clean. Very convenient for Sandown Station, and a 10 minute walk to the High Street.
I was looking for value for money, which the Sandhill managed to fulfil perfectly. Not a criticism of the Sandhill, but food availability in Sandown itself of an evening was pretty dire - Most cafés closed mid-afternoon and restaurants were relatively expensive. The pubs either didn't appeal (noisy) or didn't do food.
- stephen (9/5): All good - Good location, comfortable clean room, great value for money, friendly and helpful host. Hope to stay again N/A
- Sue (8/5): It was clean, comfortable and friendly - The breakfasts were lovely. All fresh hot and devious.
Very friendly hosts.
Bed was very comfortable. The hotel needs a bit of freshness.
Outside the benches were dilapidated and dangerous.
- barry (9/5): - Breakfast.
- Susan (9/5): - Breakfast was excellent , short walk to the seafront and buses. Nothing
- Raymond (8/5): We will be back - Breakfast ecelent staff made you fill comfortable will come again Longe smelt abit musty
- Linda (10/5): Very pleasant experience. - Excellent accommodation. Breakfast very nice. Great l8cation. Very friendly atmosphere. N/A
- Martin (7/5): Sehr gut, freundlich und immer hilfsbereit - Individuell und sehr gut
- Phill (8/5): Friendly, convenient and affordable 👍 - The location is really convenient, the staff are very friendly and the breakfast was nice with an option to customise. The hotel is probably due some renovations but overall was value for money
- George (10/5): - Friendly staff
- AMIR (7/5): Please kindly change resolve the above issue. - The breakfast was ok. The bed frames was uncomfortable, whenever we moved our sides its was enough creaky noise to wake us up. Due to that we didn't not have a good sleep and had a headache next day.

- Atul (1/5): - Location of the hotel. There is a person called Wendy who served breakfast. She was very unprofessional in her behavior. She kept showing her disappointment for pretty little matters as if we were a student and she was the warden.People pay money and deserve respect and politeness. Never going back to this hotel. IOW is amazing everyone should go there once in their lifetime.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good value for money - Fairly minimalistic, good value for money, pleasant proprietors. The location is OK - 5 to 10 minute walk to the beach. When we checked out they provided continental breakfast early. Overall, I would definitely recommend them to anyone.
- David (9/5): Sandown family holiday - The Sandhill - The location of The Sandhill was ideal, a mere 5 minute walk from Sandown train station, bus links nearby also. The glorious Sandown beach and pier were only a 15 minute stroll away too.
The Sandhill was a delightful base for our family holiday exploring Sandown.
The breakfast freshly prepared each morning was out of the world, especially the pork sausage and the French toast.
The staff were incredibly polite and took the time to engage with all guests including the kids to make them feel welcomed too. Our toddler enjoyed her chats with Wendy in the morning.
The family room we stayed in was plenty big enough for our group ( 2A + 2C ) and the sea view was lovely to wake up to each morning as well as a pleasant reminder of being on the island on holiday. The room was clean and very appealing upon arrival.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Sandhill and will definitely return in the future. The shower in the room had great temperature and pressure controls, however the function to switch from the deluge head to the handheld shower head were missing meaning this wasn't possible. The mattress on the king-size bed a dip in the centre meaning drifting off took a bit longer than usual. This was manageable until the toddler invaded the bed during the night.
Both of these concerns were not raised during the stay to give the team at The Sandhill opportunity to correct. However raising these now is for an opportunity for improvement.

- Penny Evans (7/5): Pleasant old fashioned hotel/guest house - Location was close to the coast in Sandown. Room was nice, and breakfast was just right. Staff were so friendly. I was also allowed to bring my mobility scooter into the hotel and park it in the main living area This area also had a huge TV, where we could catch up on fave shows in the evening. The shower room was too small, so I was still struggling even when they kindly gave me a shower stool the next day. Controls were out of reach for someone who is a double amputee.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The Hotel advertised a king sized room and bed neither were there, unless you were a dwarf.
Furniture very dated and worn, shower room very small. Would not stay there again
- Mohamed Kaleel (9/5): - Staff are friendly and professional. Excellent breakfast. None
- patriciapinklady1 (10/5): It ticked all the boxes for us. We're looking forward to going back! - A really handy location. Dog friendly. Our two dogs were delighted with the treats left in the room for them. Lots of free parking. Great facilities. Super friendly staff. Very good breakfast, with a good choice of ingredients. Very friendly atmosphere. It ticked all the boxes for us and we'd love to return.
- Rob (8/5): 5 STARS - Everything is 5 stars and would stay again but the only thing letting it down is access to a microwave and fridge
- Samuel (10/5): Loved it. - Wendy, Andy, and Dave were all lovely. I'm thoroughly enjoying the kippers every morning and the rooms are very homely.
I will be back next week for work and potentially the following week also.
There is parking available which the likes of premier inn and travelodge on the island do not have hotel parking None. Couldn't fault it.
- John_IOW (10/5): Quaint & Well Facilitated Family Run Hotel - Outstanding Customer Service - A real gem of a hotel located in Sandown within easy 5 minute walk from the railway station and short walk to town and beach. The overall impression was of a quaint family run hotel and well facilitated, including an excellent real ale at the bar. Food was of high quality, well cooked and presented.
Dave and Andy (Wendy was away at time of our visit) are the epitomy of outstanding friendly customer service. Thoroughly recommend the Sandhill for a stay on the Isle of Wight.
- Cjsearle (10/5): An enjoyable time - Our fifth visit to the Sandhill was greatly enjoyed by us and our friends. The rooms are comfortable and cosy. There is a good variety of cooked or continental breakfast. The bar is well stocked with a local ale and a good range of sprits and soft drinks.
Dave, Andy and Wendy made us feel welcome as always.
- vinace (4/5): - The room was very small, Small wash room,The tele was very small, very tiny kettle, no tea bags, coffee
Just two small mag cups without a spoon and the stand the kettle was horrible. Its not a hotel standard.
- Sandy (9/5): Value for money and pet friendly excellent - Staff were friendly not just to me but to my dog especially. They provided dog bowl, mat and treats. When she got wet they even offered a doggy towel. Bella felt very welcomed but if she was going to be cheeky she would have liked her own doggy bed. They responded to my concerns promptly very impressed. Not applicable
- Bennett (2/5): Chris - Nothing No heating bed, not good room was cold could not shower breakfasts not good was mark 5 star but more like a1 star
- Renata (10/5): Highly recommend - Very nice accommodations, excellent hosts, a great breakfast, and a convenient location. N/A
- Mark (8/5): Quiet stat at the sandhill guest house - The location was good, as its in a quiet area Everything was good
- CAROL (5/5): Great location but B & B needed improvement - qw enjoyedthe breakfast just a couple of mishaps burnt eggs and off beans but overall was nice. I felt it would have been better with some fresh fruit . I had a terrible view out of my window the mop and bucket sat there all week and there was a broken fence panel below my window the metal fire escape was outside the widow and there was a lot of items rubbish and wood etc stored under the fire escape hich was a hazard I did mention this during our stay but it was still there when we left there was a general unkept feeling a musty smell seemed like the carpets needed cleaning. the lounge was left in a messy state and needed a hoover the waste bin in the downstairs disabled toilet was filled completely with used hand towels so hadnt been emptied for quite a while which just felt like someone took their eye off general housekeeping. I was disappointed with the size of the room and the facilities within the room we couldnt reach the heated towel rail as was set high and behind the loo so towels got smellier and smellier as the week went on we didnt find out how to put it on this information should have been in the info folder also there was a strict no eating in room rule but when I brought in a salad I couldnt find cuttlery and plates etc nor could I find light switches that worked and the TV did not come on using the remote control I buzzed at the bar and reception but everyone had gone out even though it said in the info just ask for these things and we will provide them I could not get a drink in the bar and sat in the gloom and silence to eat my meal not a very happy experience

- Krystian (8/5): - Very friendly staff, made us feel very welcome. Room was very spacious. Breakfast was tasty and as per order made night before. Very cozy and welcoming place. The water pressure in the shower was weak.
- Safiyyah (9/5): I would come back here as it was only a 8 min walk to the beach. - The staff were very friendly and I forgot to order me and Mt family of 9 breakfast on the sheet they reminded me by text and made sure to include our orders even though it was out of hours.
I i expected there to be pet bowls and space for animals.
and the bins need changing everyday/ no rm service.
- Naeem Ahmad (6/5): Place is alright, breakfast is decent, the staff was really understanding and nice. - Breakfast was pretty decent, could be a wider variety. The bathroom was also ok. Staff was also very nice. The room was quite small for 4 people and barely any facilities.
- Tracey (10/5): Breakfast was delicious and they run a tight ship and well organised. - Location was great and staff were very friendly and helpful. It would have been helpful to know how much exactly the extra surcharge is for pets. It stayed in their room literature it was £10 per night but I was charged £35 for two nights.
- Jeremy (10/5): A very comfortable enjoyable stay - Very clean and helpful staff N/A

- Jake (10/5): -

- Ben V (8/5): -
- Snowy D (8/5): Very comfortable 5 day mini break late September 2023 - The Sandhills is conveniently located close to Sandown station. Good for those on foot and easy access by car with adequate off street parking. We received a very warm welcome on my wife's and my arrival and that bonhomie continued through our stay. Excellent breakfast, one of the best. Our good humoured hosts, Andy and David, looked after us very well, as did Andy's Mum who is also on the team. Being out of season, we were the only guests, but that didn't make any difference to the service we received and was probably a benefit. The owners live on site. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the town centre where there is a good choice of bus routes across the island if you are on foot. There is a multitude of restaurant choices in Sandown, so you won't go hungry! The Castle Inn on Fitzroy Street is a lovely welcoming traditional local community pub. Being traditional, they don't serve food, but you are welcome to bring in a take away. All in all this proved to be a most comfortable and relaxing vacation. Nothing worthy of note.
- JESSIE WILLIAM PHIRI (5/5): The place has off dirt furniture. Needs more cleaning - Friendly and helpful staff The place need an uplifting.

- Clare (10/5): Staff, very friendly, room comfortable, location very quiet. Overall a very nice place to stay. Than - Breakfast, very nice. Although, I kept forgetting to tick bacon on the form!!
Didn't have time for a cooked breakfast on morning of departure, very nice continental breakfast to go was waiting for us with a little note and smiley face hand written on the brown paper bag 😀 Personal choice... replace the veggie sausage...there are far better ones now, Linda Mc Cartney sausage...not nice🙁
- Pope (10/5): Perfect - Perfect location couple of minutes away from train station 5 mins to bus stop to ryde 10 mins to Sandown high street and beach Nothing all very good even got in early to room
- Deepa (8/5): Very nice stay - Very nice, Wendy was a nice, friendly host The sink in the toilet was not draining well
