Guest Reviews
- Jessica (2/5): - No hot water facilities, have then lied to Expedia and said there were in the morning.
One room reasonably clean, the other filthy, with left over crockery from another guest.
Both bathrooms in a state of disrepair.
A shame because it’s the only hotel in the village, and I have previously stayed and it’s been dated but clean.
- Helena (2/5): - Advertised as with parking, there's no parking available at the hotel, so had to drive around and find a side street.
Room was just filthy. I was travelling for a sporting event so wanted to do some stretching in the evening, floor was so dirty I didn't want to sit down on it. Even going to the bathroom a few steps from the bed, I felt like putting shoes on. Carpet hadn't seen a hoover in ages. Bathroom floor had hair and dust on it, including a dirty toilet tissue. They had left me a couple of rolls of toilet paper with a couple of sheets each, when I asked for more, they had none so had to take it from another room. There was mould in the shower. Bits of ceiling were hanging off. Curtain was half attached to the rail and not wide enough for the window. There's a streetlight right outside the room so it was bright in the room all night because of this. Also not sure what's in the building next door but I felt a bit exposed. Was hoping to have a coffee in the morning and had a porridge pot with me but decided not to, there was so much dust on the lid of the kettle, not sure how safe it would be. There were random stains on doors, headboard on the bed. TV remote was sticky. I just couldn't wait to leave. I really need to place for the night, so felt pressured to stay. I was so close to just ask for a refund and sleep in my car!
- Natalie (2/5): Unacceptable - Unfortunately this lovely building has been neglected and is not fit for guests. Our first impressions were the heavily stained carpets leading up to our room, we were greeted by a filthy door which was covered in hand prints etc which could have easily been cleaned.
We spent the first hour wiping down
Light switches and plug sockets to remove dirty finger prints and wiping coffee stains off walls .. surprisingly the bed and bedding was clean and comfortable. We had a full on few days arranged so the only time we had at the hotel was to sleep- fortunately for us. We were given one toilet roll for our 4 day stay, we requested more and were told ‘out of stock’ and was handed a roll of kitchen paper.
We spent every evening listening to screaming and shouting from the bar downstairs. We were woken one evening by someone hammering on the bar door after hours, demanding a drink, she was then let in by the barman who subsequently argued with her for the next hour. This is a real shame as Henfield is a beautiful place and this place could be made so much better by a little bit of effort and thought.
- Ryan (8/5): Ok - Friendly staff and sort of decent condition , however it was a very tiny room with curtains that didn’t quite cover the entire window, and once suitcase was on the floor and opened up,there was no space left to even open the room door ,also entry to hotel at night around midnight was difficult and had to call the hotel which wasn’t great as it was late and just wanted in rather than standing in the street trying to gain entry when it was dark and also very tired
- Graham (10/5): - Fantastic, loved my stay here. Absolutely would stay again.
- Lee (2/5): - Poor excuse for a hotel.....its basically and indian restaurant with a few rooms above it. Carpets are disgusting, customer service is pretty much non existant.
- Lucy (2/5): - When we arrived for check in at 2pm the rooms were not ready. It took 30 mins for one to be ready and 45 mins for the second. Room 3 had duck tape holding the wall together, a hole in the ceiling and a bed that went down hill. Room two the bed was so close to the bathroom door that during the night my husband feel over trying to get in there due to the step and trying to open the door that he slipped and ended up grabbing the mirror to steady himself which ended up smashing. On check out at 9 am there was no staff around so we had to leave the keys on the bar.
- Jamie (6/5): - We had a nice pleasant stay. The twin room was very spacious and well circulated. The check-in process was very easy and the man helping us was very nice and offered to carry bags. We had some problems with the TV and shower but these were quickly rectified by the kind man.
- Christie (8/5): - Good location, accessible for transport and quiet area!
- Juliette (8/5): - I was nervous to stay here, given previous poor reviews but actually I think they were far too harsh. This is an old, period property with wooden beamed ceilings and wonky walls! So it’s not modern and would benefit from new carpets etc. But it’s clean and quiet and perfectly adequate for the price. I would stay again if in the area.
- Karen (2/5): - Run down - dirty carpets - smelly bathroom- broken window blind - tape holding the plaster on the walls
- Robert (6/5): - It was okay only hotel in the village
- CHANTAL ANNE (4/5): - There were ants on the floor in the room. The remote had been lost so we couldn't even watch the television. There were drafts coming in from the broken windows. We couldn't double lock the door. The building looks terrible and needs a lot of attention and improvement.
- Lindsey (6/5): Fine for the price but so sad to see - The hotel room was ok, the loo seat didn’t stay up. Which was tricky to negotiate! Room was comfortable enough for the price. It would have been beautiful in days gone by.
It’s dilapidated throughout which is such a shame as it’s a beautiful old building, needs lots of love. I sincerely hope someone gives it some attention soon. We had a drink in the garden and it was just sad .. broken windows, glasses left out from who knows when.
We visited all 3 pubs on the high street. The Plough & the White Hart were heaving, great vibe. The George pub was empty at 2pm and empty at 7pm when we went back for a curry. After reading the great food reviews I was disappointed with the curry. It was ok, nothing I’d go back for.
The place was pretty empty, there was one couple who left and then a family of 3, they were eating burgers and sent them back to the waiting staff. I’m not sure the pub sold burgers, so was surprised. I would imagine this family were part of the pub as they knew the staff, by no means did they give the pub/restaurant a friendly atmosphere that’s for sure.
The lady and guy at check-in and the waiting staff in the evening were very friendly, an asset to the place, however, in all honesty, I fear they will soon be looking for new work because this place is dying.
- MICHAEL (8/5): Good enough stay - Room was great, hallway carpet is filthy. Off hours (11 pm to 11 am) you enter from a side door which is locked unless other guests have left it open.
- Simon (8/5): Good value place to stop - Good value single room with en-suite. Not the best but very acceptable for the cost.
- sandra (4/5): Sk George hotel - Would not encourage any one to stay at this hotel, it was dirty many items were broken the only good thing about the hotel was the food my son and I had an Indian meal and it was lovely
- Kaye (4/5): A gem in the making maybe!!! - We was very impressed with the staff who done everything possible to make us feel welcome. The showed us to the room the beds look very clean and well kept but then the rest fell to pieces. I understand they have just taken over the pub and bed/breakfast rooms but still if I can give some constructive criticism for you to make a difference the outside could have been weeded and cleaned maybe the fresh coat of paint and replacement glass in window the entrance hall to the room really does need a good paint maybe some stain stop to help with the damp stains mend the shower and clean limescale I really wanted to find some positives but apart from clean bed the rest was not acceptable. The pub needs a good clean Saying that it was comfortable and the food was lovely. Indian cuisine. I really hope you guys take this on board and you can turn things around as the George is and always has been a hub of henfield You and the pub deserve to be rocking everyday and night good luck guys We only stayed the one night out of the two.
- Gail (2/5): - Outside of building looked rundown. Information did not state that the entrance bar had live sports etc , did not stay after all as didn't feel comfortable as a single women. Picture was not a true reflection, disappointed.
- Colin (4/5): - This is listed as a 4 star hotel, no chance it is a 2 star at best. Room was filthy with thick dust everywhere, tea stains on the door and walls. Carpets up the stairs was filthy. Only 1 tea bag and 1 coffee sachet. The room was no more than a glorified cupboard. Black mould in the bathroom. I arranged to take my dog, but when I arrived they said no, then when I paid I was told it wasn't included. Luckily I had my email to show what I booked, so sorted that out. The first day I was offered a choice of breakfast, yet on the second day I was told fry up only. Mind you the breakfast is not up to much. ONLY STAY HERE IF YOU'RE DESPERATE AND DON'T EXPECT MUCH.
- Jordan (2/5): - The pub below the rooms is a really lovely place to eat and relax. However, the cleanliness of the rooms was poor. I had hairs in the bathroom and on the bed, a toothpick on the table, a previous guests phone charger still in the room. The bed was okay, you could feel the springs in the mattress but otherwise was fine.
- Verified traveler (2/5): £45 for nothing - My partner got to the hotel first as I was stuck at work. By the time I got there she was sat at the bar quite upset. She found the room dirty, particularly the bathroom, in dire need of dusting, and worst of all, without working heating when it was sub zero outside.
They refused a refund saying it was because we booked thru a 3rd party - hotels.com
Hotels were quite helpful when I contacted them but after a day said they couldn't contact the hotel to clear the refund. After further complaint they offered £25 voucher which barely covers the cost increase from the hotel we ended up managing to book that evening.
Not impressed with the whole sorry event which ruined a special night out.
- Ihor (8/5): - there was only one sink with coffee in the room, and milk was added to the coffee
- Ihor (8/5): - Very good
- Janet (2/5): Terrible - Dirty. Run down. Unhygienic. Not worthy of being on this website
- Paul (4/5): Needs a revamp - When we arrived,we couldn’t get in,we phoned the owners and was told to come back after 2.00 as the room was being cleaned, the room hadn’t been cleaned, it was grubby to say the least, thick dust around the skirting board and when we lifted the plug on the sink, god knows what was attached to it, the mattress on the bed was full of lumps and springs poking out, the toilet most definitely hadn’t had a clean up, we got up early and left, also no breakfast included.
- Michael (2/5): - Car park almost nonexistent. Room dirty. Lights in the room didn’t work. Breakfast was a disgrace. Carpet worn. Insufficient towels. Bed uncomfortable. Air conditioning not working requiring an open window next to a busy road.
- ANN-MARIE (6/5): Not the best - It was really difficult to check in and trying to check out was even worse!
No hot water for our showers in either room, broken windows, no tv remote, dirty cups, curtain rail hanging off, nouse travelled from downstairs......it was not great. I have stayed in some dives, and it was cheap, but in this case i got what i paid for unfortunately, i wasnt wanting the ritz for aldi money, but woukd have liked hot water and the room to be even remotely clean.
- Jennifer (6/5): - The room we had was loud. We were woken up every morning by 5 am garbage trucks or workers hammering on a roof. It was a clean room, but the tv didn’t work and no one came and took the garbage away or provided towels to us for 3 days
- Verified traveler (4/5): Cheap but not for me - Very old building as expected. But the bed was broke and had to sleep on a slant . Funiture old and warn out and no towels so had to go down and ask, and no air conditioning so was very warm.
- Ryan (10/5): - Very nice staff and the food was lovely, the cleanliness of the rooms and hotel was amazing
- John (8/5): - It was clean friendly staff and breakfast was good too
- Sandie (8/5): - Room in need of some tlc and needed a good sweep and dust! and the bedside table was balanced on 3 legs until I turned it upside down and screwed them in finding the 4th leg behind the bed!!
Bins were emptied at 3.45 and 7.00am right outside bedroom window which woke us up.
I know we booked a basic but this was really un called for.
- Lisa (2/5): Poor hotel, good food. - The website & 4 star rating are nothing like it. I was in a small very hot room the only window being approx 12ft up in the roof, the window was half covered with blind the other half muddy grime. All upstairs smelt cigarette smoke & very strong spices. There was an air con unit at the top of one wall I could not reach to switch on or find remote. I ate in the restaurant after work the male waiter was very polite friendly & food was good. I asked for help with the room a female staff member came to room approx 9pm climbed on chair & switched air con on it worked, I asked for the blind to be closed as sunrise was 5am the staff member asked someone in the bedroom opposite and then advised she was going downstairs to find something to close it with and get remote for air con, the air con lasted 20mins then stopped & continuously beeped with an error code, she never returned to help with either. The bed sheets were clean the rest of room was not, floors were dirty & stained, shower & toilet had stains, hair, other residues, mug & glass had thick dust in them. 10pm ish large furniture was being moved around noisily. I was awoken at 1.30am by smoke alarm, dressed & got to end of hallway to be told someone smoking upstairs had set it off no fire. I was then awoken approx 5am by sunlight from the ceiling window. In the morning downstairs was all locked up no one around to speak to about any of this, I went to work exhausted with clothes smelling of smoke & spices.
- John (8/5): Friendly welcome, basic room. - Hosts were lovely, friendly and welcoming.
Room was basic but clean. Shower was clean but ran cold and the controls seemed to be broken
- Ruth (2/5): - Terrible ,filthy ,mold in bathroom .Couldn’t sleep in those conditions and so had to pay to go somewhere else .They won’t reimburse me .Dont go !!!
- Paul (2/5): Not good - The room was small, old and bad condition. Bed was worn and not enough pillows. Asked for an extra pillow but the hotel didnt have spare. Not a friendly environment. Datk and dingy reception.
- David (8/5): Good value for money - I was warmly welcomed upon arrival and shown to my room. Staff were polite and caring throughout my stay.
The room was clean and tidy, and surprisingly quiet given it was facing the street. There was a little noise from other guests banging around in the corridor, but just as you'd expect elsewhere.
The bathroom was a little tired but was still servicable.
The bed was comfortable, I slept well.
Exiting in the morning was a bit of a faff, the door to the carpark at the bottom of the stairs was locked, so I had to make my way out through the bar, unlocking the front door as I went.
I'm visiting the same area in a few months time and will happily return.
- Chris (10/5): Nice place - Nice friendly hosts
Amazing Indian restaurant
Comfortable room
- Cosmin (8/5): - 👍
- Paul (4/5): - Stay was ok straight forward check in, but shower was freezing cold by time we got in shower it was too late for deer ice.
It was ok for the price it was not too bad.
- Peter (4/5): - Annex twin room was comfortable, but no heating in the lobby and bathroom meant that using the bathroom was very uncomfortable - temperature in the bathroom was 5 to 7 degrees centigrade. Light bulb failed in the lobby, too.
- Samuel (6/5): Christmas stay - Good value for money. Clean towels and linen. Shower room could do with some grout cleaning and floor cleaned more thoroughly in the more inaccesible places.
Although private from without the window could do with a pair of serviceable curtains rather than a single, somewhat tatty curtain thst did not cover the window to keep out external light.
Access after 11p.m. was gained by dialling the owners rsher than external door key being availale. This didnt present an isse for me but not really the most covenient for either party.
It says there is no parking but this is wrong. There is parking to the rear of the building for a number of cars.
Shower worked well with plenty of hot, easy to regulate water.
Tea and coffee making facility ok but cup suffered from dishwasher syndrome i.e. clean except for cooked on tea ring halfway down.
In general, could just do with a bit more attention to detail but otherwise comfortable
- Adel (2/5): - Room was tiny. There was just enough space to walk sideways around the bed.. curry smells filled the accommodation from the pub in the ground floor. when we discovered water in the shower was barely warm and it was minus temperature outside, we chose to find another hotel. Owners agreed to a refund, then refused when Expedia contacted them. Avoid.
- JTM Electrical (2/5): - The bathroom toilet kept bypassing all night. There was hairs all over the apartment and in very poor condition. The key hardly worked in the door. Worst hotel I’ve stayed in a long time
- Robert (10/5): - Loved it. Will be back.
- Eugenia (6/5): - Amazing but needs to improve on cleaning the rooms.
- Gemma (6/5): Basic - Basic room. Comfortable bed but pillows to flat. All surfaces need a good clean. Used tea cups and spoons left on the tray. Had to ask for milk and sugars which we got after 2 hours. No hot water in the shower, it was stone cold. Bathroom floor had hair over it. Had to clean the toilet seat ourselves. Window had a crack so had to be extra careful. Heating of the room was good, so no cold nights which was good. But If the issues were addressed it wouldn't be so bad. When advertising on website it fails to say it's above a pub and restaurant.
- Antwoine (4/5): 2 night stay - Sheets look like they had already been used, there was a number of cobwebs around the entire place.
This is definitely somewhere just to rest your head and come out.
- Michael (10/5): Great Value and Service - One night stay, really well priced UJ who greeted me and also service at the restaurant and bar was very efficient and gave great customer service. The the room was tiny but adequate. I struggled with getting hot water out of the shower. I stayed back in June this year and it was still being renovated, this trip was a pleasant surprise
- Stuart (10/5): Great for an overnight stop - Really friendly greeting on arrival. I was shown to my room and had help with my bag. My single room was small but neat and clean albeit a little tired. I slept really well and the on-site Indian restaurant was excellent. A very good value hotel in a good location with easy parking. Will definitely stop again if in this area.
- Stephen (6/5): - Hotel adequate, draws in divan broken, shower kept running hot and cold,
There appears to be a shortage of staff one girl tries to do everything.
- Lesley (4/5): - Nice building , but no excuse for being dirty , no working tv and freezing cold shower
- Jayne (8/5): Taking family to brighton - Booked here because it was great value for money. Arrived and felt comfortable. Attentive staff
- Sam (6/5): - Arranged fir a 30 min earlier check as had to get to a wedding but when we arrived no one knew about it. Poor customer service..no one around in morning to request milk or sugar for room. Noone around to be able to checkout so just had to leave key at the bar. It was a bed for the night..thats all. V expensive for what it was.
- Colin (2/5): - No towels
No toilet Paper
Very Poor
- Mike (4/5): disappointing and embarrassing - Booked this hotel for friends and I was extremely embarrassed, one room did not even have a wardrobe and the other room the curtains were hanging off the rail, very disappointed with the standard as it was not cheap
- David m (8/5): - We had four men staying for four nights recently
They spent one evening enjoying an amazing Indian meal , which in their words was the best ever
Rooms were to a good standard
- Adam (8/5): - Overall our stay was just what we needed, from a recomendation to others point of view the room interior was very dusty and several fitments loose / damaged. These things didnt overly bother us as we were only using the room as a sleeping base. Overall satisfied with our stay that reflected the price.
- Raymond (10/5): A good stay - We stayed for one night only for sleeping
- Joanne (8/5): A nice little pub with a delicious Indian menu. - We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Newly managed by new owners the outside looks much nicer than it did in the photos on the booking website. We had a really nice Indian meal in the bar restaurant.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Wouldnt stay again - Room wasn't too bad but bathroom hadnt been cleaned and the toilet was disgusting. Very noisy being on top of the pub and loud music throughout the night so cant say it was a relaxing stay. All seemed quite run down and not very well cared for.
- T (2/5): - I booked 4 night stay for work, if anygood would of booked 10 weeks for big job, where do i start, checking in to this building site the manager geet tried to lie saying all the work would be done and the pub and restaurant open the next couple of days, which obviously was impossible, he took me to the tiny room which was smelly and horrible with no electric, he said it had tripped and would be sorted by time i came back from going out for dinner, when i came back to the boiling room i asked for the aircon controls but he would not give to me, he said when the electic trips to go on the landing and the DB board is there to flick the trip, i said to put me in another room which he said no, i had no electric all night and in the morning he would not answer my calls and sent a rude woman to see me to say tuff luck, i informed Hotels.com who was amazing and upgraded me to another hotel FOC, DO NOT STAY HERE IT IS A DUMP AND RIP OFF
