Guest Reviews
- Anne (10/5): - Best view in the whole city. we stayed in room no. 8 and i am sure we had the best room. the host is very welcoming and made the best breakfast. the walk to the city was easy and quick. there is no parking and the water pressure is low, but we can definitely recommend staying here. don't hesitate, the place gets 10/10❤️
- Verified traveler (10/5): I’m glad I stay in Ella Ridge View - It's fascinating to wake up in a room with the great mountains view and tasty Sri Lank breakfast. The owner also offers tuk-tuk ride in Ella. They have one-day package and one ride. The location is a bit far fr city center, it’s better because of quiet. Each tuk-tuk ride between hotel to city center is LRK 500.
- Quay (10/5): - My stay was incredible! The balcony view was mesmerizing, and I could've gazed at it for hours. Everything was flawless, and the owner's delicious breakfasts made it even better. They ensured we felt right at home.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice place, lovely people and amazing view. The downside for me was no ac plus very high humidity. I struggled with this.
- Martina (10/5): Ruhige Unterkunft mit super Aussicht - Das Frühstück war super und der Koch sehr herzlich und hilfsbereit. Einzig der Manager war leider grundlos unfreundlich.
- Russell (10/5): - Incredible view. Beautiful room. Fantastic breakfast.
- karen (10/5): So good we stayed an extra night - We felt at home in Ella Ridge View, so much we stayed an extra night.
The property is ideally situated to walk to the town centre (10min), Nine Arch Bridge (30min), Little Adam’s Peak (1hr) and Ella Rock (2hr), all places we would highly recommend visiting, especially Little Adam at sunrise.
The family live in a house next to the accommodation and they made us feel so welcome. They helped us with trips, way finding and were very attentive to our needs at the accommodation.
The view from the room was spectacular, we could see across the value to Ella Rock. While the room did not have AC it was not an issue because it was cool in the forest and the tan sufficed, the excellent fridge and comfortable bed helped too. The bathroom was clean and towels plush.
There was a family of monkeys that live in the trees locally and we spent an afternoon watch them feed on the bananas near the balcony. It is just a shame I can’t upload the video here.
I have uploaded photos of the best breakfast we have had in Sri Lanka. Sameera makes it all fresh and it is absolutely delicious. We had hoppers and roti, fruit and juices that were all fantastic. I would stay for the breakfast alone, it’s the reason we stayed another night.
Thanks you Sameera and family for making our Ella stay so special.
- Kathryn (8/5): Beautiful balcony view - Beautiful view from the balcony. Good large room. Great Sri Lankan breakfast but way too much for us to eat everything. A little hard to find as we arrived at night but the location is great once it's daylight. Owner very friendly & helpful.
- Thomas (10/5): - Très bien situé
Le cadre est magnifique et le personnel aussi
- Q (10/5): Amazing - Amazing and Beautiful location. can walk to town or to sightseeing. Higly recommended.
Staff were very kind and the breakfast was fresh and wonderful.
The view from apartment were stunning and also views at breakfast lookout
- Faizan (10/5): Lasantha was a fantastic host - The location & hospitality by Lasantha was amazing. He cooked us authentic Sri Lankan breakfast every morning, organised Tuk Tuk's at affordable prices & suggested a local cave to visit. Always helpful, exceptional service & pristine mountain view location. I highly recommend the hotel
- 312javir (2/5): Dirty and not very trustworthy - Rooms dirty - not reception or room service.
On top of that forgot my sun glasses in the property. Realize when I was 20 min away by car and called them. They told me not to worry and that they would send the glasses by cuorier to my next destination- nice people I tought.
Later on simply delayed the shipment to keep the sun glasses.
- Claus (8/5): Good value for money with a great view. - Nice place 10 minutes away from the buzz of Ella main road. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great view. Comfortable room. Good value for money.
- Friedhelm (8/5): - Amazing view from each room. Very helpful staff at the family-run hotel.
- Joel (10/5): - The views are incredible. The staff are very helpful, they arranged a tuk tuk for us from the station and brought us breakfast each morning at a time of our choosing. It was great.
- WonderThirst (2/5): Several misleading inaccuracies in the listing. - This is a homestay and not a hotel / motel / guest house.
There is no reception. No restaurant. No gym. No lift. Does have stairs to climb.
The property is hard to find. The room was smelly / musty on arrival. I needed to keep doors open for a while to air the room. The bathroom did not feel clean. Neither did the bed sheets. A strange noise woke me up around midnight.
Breakfast was fresh and one of the nicest I have had. The owners were very obliging and keen to please. However, unfortunately did not meet expectations.
- Kesini (4/5): - There are several inaccuracies with the listing.
There is no reception. There is no lift. There is no cafe There are steps leading up to the rooms. And it goes on.
This is a humble homestay. Not a guesthouse / hotel. It is also not registered with the Tourism Board as all properties accepting paying guests are required to do.
The property was quite difficult to find, the signage was quite obscure. I found the room musty on arrival and had to leave doors open for a while to air it. The toilet decor was weird and I couldn’t make out if the toilet was clean or not. The bed sheets did not feel clean. I was woken up around midnight by a very strange noise. I could not make out what it was. Breakfast was super.
It did not meet my expectations unfortunately. The owners were very nice and did all they could to please
- Francesca (10/5): - Il panorama paga il prezzo. É in un luogo alto quindi lontano dai rumori del centro.
10 minuti a piedi al centro e 15 alla stazione .
Le colazioni sono abbondanti. Non fa servizio lunch
- Sara (10/5): Stunning Mountain Oasis - Loved my stay here! The mountain view from the rooms is spectacular. It was a little hard to find at first, since it's down a narrow mountain road, but once you find it, it's easy to walk into town and get around. I walked to the nine arch bridge in like 25 minutes from the hotel. The staff was also extremely nice and helpful. I needed a bandaid at one point and they got me a couple and helped me out. Breakfast was varied and delicious. :) Hope I can come back someday!
- Cindy (10/5): - I give this 5 stars based on the view alone, but the breakfast was incredible brought to out door every morning and bed and towels were clean and comfy. I highly recommend this property you will not be disappoint, except the view does make you want to do nothing but sit and enjoy it😊
- Christopher (8/5): View plus plus - Booked for the view and tranquillity, did not disappointment. Family run guest house which I always prefer to support. The climate was perfect, zero humidity, a welcome relief from Colombo. An easy picturesque walk into Ella town, as well as Little Adams Peak.
Staff very nice and friendly. Delicious Sri Lankan breakfast. Best yet coconut roti. Excellent value for money. Thank you Ella Ridge.
- Rony (10/5): - Lacintha the owner was very friendly, he followed up on our check in, he was very helpful and nice. He provided breakfast on time the next morning. The location is very close from the center and restaurant. It’s very close also from little Adam’s peak hike. Recommend this place to stay and relax with an amazing view
- Leebjef (6/5): A few problems, but a great view - We stayed in two different cabins during January 2020.
There were some positives - a stunning view and lovely breakfasts that could be eaten while enjoying the view. We found the location to be good.
Unfortunately we ran into some problems - One cabin had a cold shower the first night. The other had a faulty flush for the toilet. Both showers had very poor water pressure, making it challenging to wash hair. We weren’t given the WiFi password until the second night, despite requesting it. It was difficult to get help from staff during the day, though they did seem like very nice people. One cabin had an off-putting smell, possibly related to the toilet that wasn’t flushing well.
The booking site we booked through indicated daily housekeeping, 24 hour front desk and "free private parking is available on site". We found none of those to be accurate.
- Verified traveler (8/5): w - The view is absolutely stunning, and the staff was super helpful and friendly in every way.
There was a slight mixup re our booking (seems to be a common issue that hotels.com bookings aren't always respected in Sri Lanka), but the team handled it well, they arranged for us to stay one night at another even nicer place and drove us there.
- MichaelR4544 (10/5): Amazing location, great view and welcoming host - We stayed at Ella ridge view for 3 nights and would 100 percent recommend and love to stay again. Very welcoming hosts who speak English. The room was comfortable and had a little balcony so you can enjoy some drinks or chilling out looking at the amazing view over the mountains. Located 5 min walk from town centre with lots of restaurants.
- O5507FTalexr (10/5): Incredible views - We stayed for four days in December. It was one of the best decisions for our trip. We had a few cloudy and misty days but the other time it was clear you have one of the best views of Ella Rock. We woke up for a sunrise which was spectacular. Would highly recommend staying and if you can set the alarm sitting out for sunrise is totally worth it
- 496morganc (10/5): Stunning views with a lovely terrace - We were blown away by the beautiful views of Ella Rock and the valley below - there is even a good view from the bed! The breakfast on the terrace in front of our room with fresh and delicious Sri Lankan tea was a lovely touch. The room was clean and the owners were friendly and accommodating.
- 12cjc (8/5): September Stay - Really nice homestay in Ella! Nice room, amazing view and the breakfast is a lovely touch! You really dont need anything more in Ella where there are mainly homestays in the small town. Good value and would recommend!
- lisaluise19 (10/5): Nice, Clean, Good Sevice - The wooden cabins & the bathrooms were clean and big enough to easily fit 2 people in each cabin. Towels and even a blow dryer were provided in the rooms. The breakfast (on request - typical Sri Lankan food such as Egghoppers, coconut pancakes and a variation of fruit) was served on the balcony of one of our wooden cabins. Delicious! The staff was very friendly and open for questions and gave recommendations on how to best get to the Nine Arch Bridge, Little Adam's Peak, the best restaurants to eat in and they were also happy to arrange a taxi driver for us. The owner of the hotel even spoke and understood some German and was very curious about Europe and the German language. We felt very welcome in the hotel! Although, all in all Ella is rather touristy and western, it's still possible to find some restaurants and places that aren't too crowded and cater typical Sri Lankan food.
- johannelucille (10/5): Room with a view - This place is beautifully located minutes from town. We enjoyed eating a delicious breakfast with a stunning view while watching monkeys frolic in the trees. Lasantha and his brother Sanjeewa are exceptional hosts who genuinely care about your comfort and needs.
- JulieNewman49 (10/5): Breakfast with a view - The two weeks travelling sri lanka in many guest houses this by far was our favourite!! Great value for money, comfy bed and well that view just speaks for itself!
The host was very helpful and brought breakfast to our door every morning! He helped us with train times and the best way to climb Ella's rock (a must). We were even tempted to change our travel plans to stay here an extra night!
Will definitely be returning when we next go to sri lanka.
- 996runer (8/5): Perfect view at a simple hotel - My family (two adults and one 2 year old kid) had a really nice stay at this place.
The staff was helpful and provide us with a lovely local breakfast.
It is a simple place, but with one of the most stunning views, furthermore it is 12 min walk from central Ella.
- Yummytraveling (10/5): Cooking Class - We've made an excellent cooking class with Sami in Ella Ridge View. We booked it one day before and had to leave a deposit. They offer a cooking class at 11.30 and 5.00 pm.
It were just the two of us and we cooked 5 different types of curry. We made everything by ourself, so it was a great experience. The kitchen is outside and there is enough space for working.
It was the best vegetarian meal we've ever eat.
- JimmyNLtravel (10/5): Comfy place, good view and a little walk outside ella centre - Nice staff. I asked if they could arrange a special birthday cake for my girlfriend, and they did a great job!
Room was very clean and the bed was one of the best beds we had in Sri Lanka.
Breakfast was also good.
We missed it that there was no reception.
- 762christinec (8/5): Lovely view, lovely hosts - I was quite surprised when reading how different the reviews are for Ella Ridge view. The guest house is set back from the main road up a bit of a dirt track but that gives it some character. You have to be prepared to walk the last bit from the road and you need a torch or something to light your way if going out at night but that didn't really bother us. The bedroom and bathroom were basic but clean and spacious. We had a nice big balcony which overlooked the ridge giving what I think must have been one of the best views in Ella. The breakfast was the nicest we had in our 2 week stay in Sri Lanka. It is not 5 star luxury but very comfortable accommodation, reasonably priced with attentive hosts.
- SergO4 (2/5): No way!!! - Was fooled by good reviews and photos. In reality this place is located right in the middle of some trashyard and construction site with no road. The host is extremely rude. My recommendation would be not to choose this place.
- Jesyicatravel (2/5): Avoid this accommodation - We stayed at this hotel 2 nights with the intent on staying 3. We did not book through booking.com and were led to believe a different price on the phone. On our first day we had a verbal understanding that we would let them know the next day if we would stay a third night. On the first morning when we didn't not finish our breakfast as we are not huge eaters, we where met with a awkward moment as it seemed the owner/ host was unhappy with us. We then came back at 6 pm after a hike and lunch to learn he had already booked someone else. Instead of apologizing for this lack of understanding he became incredibly rude. The next morning when leaving without any offer of breakfast he gave us our bill of a much higher price then agreed. Clearly we were upset by the combined events leading up to this but the most import issue was the additude in which he ran his business. I have been in Sri Lanka for a month now and have found all our hosts aside from this expirence to be beyond hospitable. I love Ella and will continue to but I urge anyone who looks at this home stay to look past it as there are many other options where you can be treated with respect and kindness. If you decide to stay here book through a booking website so you can be certain you have clear documentation of the cost.
- subzeroricha29 (10/5): Perfect view with gracious host - We stayed in Ella for a night- place has some super views and yes great food! Don’t forget to eat at least one meal here. Rooms are tastefully decorated and do offer basic services - don’t expect a lot of five star backdrop here. It’s a warm homestay with great views and comfortable accommodation
- amyj_cafc (6/5): Comfty bed, great view and helpful hosts - This place had a fab view across Little Adam's Peak and Ella's Rock and was in a very peaceful setting - it's a 15 minute walk from the main drag in Ella.
The owner and his brother were helpful - giving us a couple of free lifts down to town in their tuk tuk and directions to our next destination.
The bed was so so comfy, and the sheets, bathroom and floor were clean. However, the walls/windows/curtains were a little grubby.
Pancakes/toast/hoppers at breakfast were also cold (and when we asked about it, we were told they were supposed to be.) The WiFi was also quite sketchy, if that's important to you. If you want your room cleaned between days, leave your key with them while you're out.
Overall, I'd say you're paying for the view - the room we were in could do with a little TLC.
- Rachel (10/5): A room with a view - Fantastic stay at Ella Ridge Hotel! Service really great, fantastic breakfast and a view that words really cannot describe! Would stay again without hesitation.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Fantastic room, better check in service needed - Amazing room with absolutely stunning view. Beds were really comfortable. Unfortuntely we didnt get to try breakfast as upon check in they showed us rooms and then left us to our own devices. There was no mention of the wifi password or where we could find them if we needed anything. We did ask about breakfast and arranged for 7.15am, however the next day we couldnt find anyone around. We waited til 8am then gave up and went out.
