- Ghislain (8/5): - Prima ontbijt en uitstekende kamer. Vriendelijk en professioneel personeel. Spijtig van de verbouwingswerkzaamheden maar niet zo heel veel last van behalve dat er veel laadpalen voor de elektrische wagens verwijderd waren.

- Henk (7/5): Afgezien van de te laat gemelde verbouwingsperikelen was het in orde. - Medewerkers prima, eten prima, kamer prima. Mooie omgeving. Lekker centraal. Er wordt behoorlijk verbouwd en wij kregen daarvan heel laat - te laat!- bericht. Mijn vrouw is minder valide, dus dat is niet charmant zo'n late berichtgeving. Het was mooi weer, dat scheelde. Maar dit had qua informatie vooraf veel beter gekund en m.i. ook gemoeten. Duidelijk minpunt voor v.d. Valk. Mijn vrouw worstelde zich er wel doorheen, maar ik vond het ook qua afstand naar de eetzaal e.d. te zwaar voor haar. Bij regen had ik wellicht gezegd: we gaan naar huis. Verder kleine dingetjes: geen ochtendkranten verkrijgbaar of gratis op de leestafel, geen echt speciaal bier op de tap. Hoeft ook niet, maar ik verheug mij daar altijd op. Was nogal standaard.

- martineP6545RB (6/5): Price/Quality of restaurant has deteriorated in past few years - My family and I have regularly been visiting the restaurant in Van de Valk in Spier for years. The ambiance in the restaurant is always pleasant and professional. Unfortunately, cost cutting and rapidly rising menu prices has meant you now get a much worse meal today compared with a few years sgo. I now consider the meal prices expensive. In the past, you would receive a complimentary small salad and the french fries were generously served in “puntjes”. During our most recent meal, the french fries were served in a very small bowl and were soggy, clearly having sat for some time in the kitchen waiting for customer. The cod was not hot when served and looked rather anemic with no accompanying sauce. The sliptong served were extremely small, leaving the customer still hungry. The accompanying vegetables served were an unrecognizable curry blend, again in a tiny bowl. In the past, two separate bowls of vegatables were served to cater for individual taste. In summary, our visits to Van de Valk in Spier will become much less frequent in future and we’ll be searching for better price/quality alternatives in the area for future family events.

- Abdulla (10/5): Relaxing stay - The hotel is located in nice area where you could walk in nature, it has has spacious room, nice swimming pool and gym facilities. The breakfast was good and worth having it in the hotel, the staff are polite and the check in and out was very fast The hotel is used sometime by German bus tours for stop over to have breakfast, meaning you will have very long queue at breakfast to reach the buffet, more than 30 minutues, therfore to be in the safe side have your breakafast early .

- Berendina (10/5): Prima hotel - Prima hotel. Het lijkt van binnen wat verouderd, maar dat doet niets af aan de netheid of service. Fijne ruime kamer met een goed bureau en goede, passende verlichting gezicht voor werken achter de laptop, make-up en dergelijke.
- Maria (9/5): Superb - Nice hotel, nice wellness, very nice swimming pool with warm water. Breakfast with good variety. Restaurant serves good and abundant food. Close to the park and they rent (electric) bikes The vicinity to the motorway takes away a bit of the allure, but it is not a problem at all. If you are not interested in the park and don’t have a car there is literally nothing you can do in the neighbourhood and public transportation is minimal, especially in the weekends.

The tv was massive, the bathroom was new and the view was decent considering the motorway is moments down the road. The location is good and the staff are competent and friendly. The general clientele seems to be an average age of 65 so it’s quite around the pool and gym.

- paulmjones99 (10/5): Business and Personal Trip - What an excellent hotel, totally surprised, as it was away from the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam, about 2 hours North. Sitting on the back of a country part with great walks. Rooms were outstanding. Food was exceptional. Gym was good, as was the Sauna. A hotel I will return to for sure, staff were excellent. A review with no complaints.

- Mianel (8/5): Good choice close to nature reserve - We stayed here for two nights. Good time spent. Spacious room, with balcony, but actually without a view (look at the roof of the pool). The location is remarkably beautiful for a Van der Valkk hotel. Although it is located near the A28, it borders directly adjacent to the Dwingelderveld nature reserve. You can take some beautiful walks from the hotel without having to take the car. A negative point is the acoustics at the reception and in the restaurant. If it's a bit full, you can't understand a word of what is being said. A very friendly waitress suggested that we enjoy dinner in the lounge because of the noise. This was a golden tip.

- Mathias0017 (9/5): Excellent experience, and very good value for money. - We booked this hotel as a 1-night stop-over. The hotel looks unassuming from the outside, but the inside is superb. The facilities are clean and modern. Our room was large, the beds comfortable and the bathroom spacious and clean (with both a bath and a separate walk-in shower). Staff was professional and friendly. Breakfast is excellent, and the restaurant offers basic but tasty food for dinner. At night, we didn't hear any noise from the nearby highway (even with our window open). There's a large park next to it, where we went for a long walk before returning home. It's not cheap, but honestly it offers a lot of value, especially the room, bathroom, and food offering.

Vriendelijk personeel, eten in t restaurant goed en goede prijskwaliteitsverhouding. Lobby ziet er gezellig uit. Minpunten: Veel tapijt in de gangen en omdat de meeste mensen buiten in t bos hebben gewandeld zie je veel vlekken op t tapijt.
- ronnvanetten2018 (8/5): Nice stop, good service and good food! - Had a stop at Van der Valk Spier-Dwingelo. Just wanted a not-too-big bite, having had a late lunch. At 20 p.m. the waitress even showed us the lunch menu! Now, that's great! We both a a small dish, but nevertheless more than we could handle and of great taste. The salmon was perfect and the clubsandwhich also plenty and very good. Very friendly staff.
- daz183 (10/5): Lovely location - Stayed here with a group of 9 people as it was local for our meeting the following day. Our Dutch hosts recommended it as the stay there themselves when visiting the area. It is situated in a national park area and is popular with walkers and cyclist's as the park has paths through it. The rooms are very comfortable, clean and well maintained. The food in the restaurant is very good and is popular with the locals not just hotel residents. Highly recommend the "mustard soup"

- Sandya-and-Erik (4/5): Below Valk-standard; too many flaws - Hotel location can’t be beaten, near A28 exit but also smack near a large forest and heather nature reserve; good public transport during weekdays but none during weekend. And pool/sauna is also excellent for a hotel, with views on the garden and good facilities. Also nice TV with many channels, room instructions and payperview; and good bathrooms (shower and tub) and beds. Walking map free from the reception but it’s hugely outdated on the available and signposted trails. Far too many limitations however, at least a full star below the 2 other Valk-hotels we stayed in during last year: * Starts totally clumsy with 3 PR e-mails suggesting adding a dinner or breakfast to the booking, while it was a (correctly honoured) package booking with breakfast and 1 dinner included. * Standard rooms are on the small side, and cost more than what they are worth in other Valk hotels. * Breakfast is good on breads and dairy/muesli/fruit side, but far too limited choice of hot dishes. * Dinner was bland (e.g. tasteless Salmon), the style of cooking and dishes for which Valk was notorious 20+ years back but most of their hotels grew beyond it. Not this one. * Room maintenance was not great, also close to clumsyness. Found a clean sock of someone else hidden between the bedsheets (don’t the laundry staff check for these)? Room phone was broken. Wifi was great uptil lunch on Saturday; after that the smartphone kept service, the laptop for the next 24 hours simply got ‘Hotel Spier connected, no Internet’. Reception simply sent us back telling ‘must be your PC, reboot’ while at next destinations the wifi worked great and all advice did not help. They should have been more helpful and supply e.g. the alternate wifi (for conferences) password; it’s either a glitch on Valk side or a feature (capping a connection after too many Gbs used) which their own staff does not know about. Overall maybe recommended for a 2 to 3 star bargain price, for current 4 star price it’s a very clumsy failure.

- Marcel (10/5): Toplocatie en toppersoneel - Hotel is heerlijk: personeel is geweldig (echt niemand uitgezonderd, iedereen is even vriendelijk en gastvrij); de kamer (familie) was helemaal af; het ontbijs was heerlijk evenals het diner; parkeren voor de deur, bossen om de hoek, enige, maar daar kan niemand iets aan doen, is het geluid van de snelweg, die direct langs het hotel loopt. Maar komend uit een grote stad hoor je dat ook niet meer.
- Shanti (8/5): - Mooie omgeving vlak aan de Nationaal park. Neem hier zeker een lange wandeling en neem voor de kids een voetbal mee. De familiekamer is echter bijzonder gedateerd (jaren 80-90 look met veel beige en bruin). Ook doen niet alle functies het, zo zijn er meerdere lampen die niet werken. Bij het douchen loopt de douchebak eigenlijk direct vol en sta je met je voeten onder water. De familiekamer is echter wel erg ruim, mijn zoon kon in een eigen aansluitende kamer slapen. Tot slot zijn de wellness faciliteiten erg prettig, maar relatief klein voor het aantal bezoekers. Het wordt namelijk redelijk goed bezocht. Al met al, om het hotel hoef je het niet per se te doen (alhoewel andere kamers wel al een upgrade hebben gehad), maar qua locatie top.
- jan (6/5): Nice hotel but poor service - The hotel was all right. Wa had dinner at the hotel in the evening. The service was very long. We have ordered a bottle of water that came same time as the invoice... It was hard to get it off the invoice as well. On the way back to the room, my wife has served herself a glass water at a refreshing point but she has been told by the hotel personal that she had ot ask for it. The person who told this was not kind. It's a shame not getting water when ordered and being harcelled when you take it yourself at a point dedicated to this... The pool is excellent.

- PimDeWilde (8/5): Homecoming in Spier - A stay at Van der Valk Hotel Spier is for us feeling as a kind of homecoming. It starts with the very friendly and profesional staff at the reception desk and it goes on during the whole time you're staying here. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. A real classical ( in the good sense) Valk expirience. The breakfast is extended and of exellent Valk quality. In the back of the hotel there is the entrance to a lower floor where you can store your bike. Be careful it has a steep slope!

Heerlijk gezwommen in het ruime zwembad. Goed gegeten, al zouden de porties echt kleiner kunnen, nu is het toch verspilling van eten.

- gpascanu (4/5): Disappointing - This is supposed to be a 4 star hotel, unfortunately it wasn't. It seems that there are also refurbished rooms, but we had 211 and 210 and both definitely require refurbishing and before that some maintenance. The good part was the pool and the sauna. Breakfast is average.
- Erreippie (10/5): Nice hotel with pool - The hotel is located next to a forest where you can take a hike. The hotel has a pool that has free access for hotel guests. There is a lot of choice at the breakfast table. The rooms are clean and have a nice view.
