The covered balcony was a great place to sit and enjoy the sights and atmosphere below. The owners were very friendly and helpful and the buffet breakfast very tasty. The property was ideally situated in the middle of Valletta and handy for bars and restaurants. It provided easy access to Valletta for exploring the wonderful city. We'd highly recommend this if you are visiting Valletta.
- Jeremy Anthony (10/5): - We had an amazing stay at Valletta Lucente. We stayed in the Lucia room and it was very well designed and thought out. The area is very busy but we enjoyed that we could walk right out the door to many cafes and restaurants. The owners were also amazing. Our airline had lost our luggage and when it finally arrived and was going to be delivered, the courier needed to meet me with the bags since the hotel isn’t on a drivable street. Unfortunately we had an excursion scheduled at the only time they could drop them off that day. So instead of us missing our excursion or being without our bags for another day the owner said he would get the bags for us and he did and left them in our room. You couldn’t ask for better customer service with owners who go out of the way for their guests. My wife and I really appreciated it. We will definitely stay here again

- Hazel (10/5): - Beautifully maintained old palazzo in a good location. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Valletta is quite small and thus incredibly walkable. Nothing is more than a few minutes away. Would stay again. If accessibility is a concern, the Layla penthouse may not be the best choice as there are a few stairs particularly between the two terraces and down to the bathroom (which does not have a door so that may not suit everyone). It does face the street where there are bars/restaurants that stay open late with music playing etc so if you are a light sleeper, this may also not be the best room for you.

- Frank (10/5): - Valetta Lucente is in a prime location in downtown Valetta although on a pedestrian only street which makes it a bit difficult when using Uber. However the hotel more than makes up for it. Interior quirky but really works. We arrived at 3:00 AM but staff were there to assist us. Didn't meet Charles till the second last day of our visit but previous reviews on both him and his wife and staff lived up to their reviews. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a visit to Malta. I mentioned about quiet. When we arrived at 3:00 AM the street was very quiet but when we got up and went outside the hustle and bustle and noise was a shock! However the construction of the hotel (solid) meant that no sound penetrated to our room, believe me a huge bonus! Congrats Charles, we will be back! Frank D Ottawa October 15th 2023
- Nicole (10/5): - The owners made us feel welcome and the property is a awesome unique boutique hotel. Full of unique pieces the owners have collected. One thing to note this property does not have.a 24/7 reception even though Expedia gave us the information it did. We did not arrive until midnight due to delayed flights. We had provided our flight number so the owners were tracking our flight and waited for us to arrive.as we couldn’t be contacted. If I got the correct information I would have reached out to the hotel to arrange after hours check I as with a few of the other places on this trip. The owners were very gracious in waiting’ for us to arrive.highly recommend great location and beautiful hotel

It is incredibly charming and the attention to detail is perfect! Two terraces with a view of cathedrals, church bells ringing. Dramatic double doors that opened onto them. It is by far and large our most favorite and beautiful place we’ve ever stayed! Right outside of the hotel is the most charming cobblestone alleyway with steps full of restaurants and bars and we even decided at 11 PM to go back out for a nightcap. Do yourself a favor and fit this into your itinerary! You will not regret it. It was so special.

- DiAnna (10/5): Must-Stay in Valletta - Honestly, quite late in leaving this, but someone asked me for a recommendation in Malta, and I had to come back to leave a review! I was in Valletta in December, and had a fantastic time at Valletta Lucente. The accommodation is in a fantastic central location in Valletta, and is above the ceramics shop also owned by the family. It is a very short walking distance from St. John's Co-Cathedral, and a brief walk to major bus transport hubs which made it easy to get around the rest of Malta. Hosts were lovely and helpful, and the the breakfast every morning was freshly made.

The room we stayed in was on the 4 floor with view on the harbor. The staff was super friendly and would help us with all the questions we have. The parking is not easy if you have a car. One we used was in 10 minutes walking distance from hotel which would fill out after 8am till 5 pm and after 6 pm.

- Gillian (4/5): - On arrival our room the light did not come on so was dark, my husband crossed to switch the light on but tripped on a low table not visible in the dark, grazing his leg so badly we spent 7 hours at the hospital to be stitched up and had 3 follow up visits and a holiday ruined. The table was a dangerous hazard in a dark room and we feel the hotel was responsible for the accident. There is no mention on the web that the hotel is located on a very steep road that no taxi or car can access so is not suitable for guests with limited mobility. There is no access to a roof terrace unless staying in one of the penthouse rooms. We felt the breakfast offered was picnic food - cold meats, cheese, pickles, quiche, no sweet pastries, eggs or toast etc

Little touches like home cooked dishes for breakfast & bedtime stories were a lovely addition. The private terrace with harbour views was a great place to rest with a glass or two in the evenings! Highly recommended for a special place to stay in the centre of town.

- Sascha Edgina (10/5): - What a wonderful stay in central Valletta! We enjoyed 9 days in the Layla Penthouse, with a comfortable seating area outside and great views of the city. Lots of sites, shops and restaurants close by, and a 10 minute walk max to the bus terminal. It was quite noisy until around midnight, which we expected from a central location. Hosts Dorothy and Charles were lovely and very knowledgeable of the best places to go on the island. The homemade maltese buffet breakfasts were delicious - especially the cakes! We had a wonderful holiday and would definitely stay here again when visiting Malta.

I had a fabulous time there breakfast is delicious they had a wide range of foods which is great because I’m highly allergic to gluten. The building is situated in a little alcove from the main street so it’s an easy walk, you’re literally within the entire center of Violetta. The customer service of the staff was absolutely wonderful they sat down with me showed me were everything was on a map and they have a lot of great ideas for places to eat as well as things to do and see, really just absolutely fantastic. I would absolutely stay here again.

The 2-tiered balcony with breath-taking views of the Harbor; the comfortable and beautiful canopy bed; the overall design and comfort of the suite in a 400 year old building; the homemade breakfast and room amenities - it was the absolutely perfect place for a couple to enjoy Malta. The innkeeper couple who runs the hotel sets the tone for a truly memorable stay and from the first moment, you know you are somewhere unique and exceptional. The location in Valletta is unbeatable. The price is quite reasonable given the level of accommodation and amenities. We were given an orientation to Malta and Gozo as soon as we arrived and educated on everything from the best sightseeing and shopping to smartest use of busses, ferries, and taxis. Plus, the innkeepers run one of the best souvenir shops in Valletta, and even hand-make some of the ceramics they sell. We knew we had chosen the best place to stay in Valletta as soon as we walked in the door. If you want to stay somewhere unforgettable, stay at Valletta Lucente. Worth many return trips.

Very old building with many intersting designs - certainly nothing like the big chain hotels. And the view from the terrace at the top cant be beaten. - sarah (6/5): Beautiful building, but needs improvements - This hotel could be amazing. There are a few major issues. The location is great. The rooms are beautiful. The bedding and towels are 5 star. The problems...breakfast was terrible. Very little hot water. And why no bathroom doors?! We stayed in two different rooms (more on that later), and neither had a bathroom door. We are a loving couple, but a couple who like some level of privacy. We stayed in the top floor room, which is three levels. The first floor is the toilet, and sinks. Spiral staircase up to an outdoor patio (huge and beautiful, even with no view). Another round of spiral staircase to the bedroom. The shower is in the bedroom. Up the spiral staircase again to the huge top floor patio, with a stupendous view of the water. Amazing. The shower featured two rain-shower heads. Which would have been wonderful, but there isn't enough hot water for one person to take a shower, let alone two. There are no nightlights, so if you have to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, you risk life and limb or you have to turn on the lights. On our second night the mosquitoes came. We have traveled around the world, and mosquitoes can be an issue in many places. But we must have killed about 30. No sleep what so ever. We checked the windows and the doors and couldn't figure out where they were coming from. Finally, at about 6am we found a window, hidden behind a plant on the stairway. No window pane. Just an open window. We got no sleep and request
- charlie (10/5): Fantastic charming find in top area near it all - We splurged and stayed in one of the top suites with a roof deck. Actually, we had TWO roof decks! Very nice location and nice views. But be careful, there is a narrow spiral staircase that may be scary for older guests inside the room that you'll need to navigate to get to bedroom area.
- Wayne (10/5): - Have enabled the feel of Malta wirh superbly, friendly and charming character of this 400 year old buildong. The staff are great, very helpful with the convenience of staying in the heart of Valenta. A 5 rating from me and would definitively recommend Lucente as a place of choice.

- Cathy (10/5): A rare gem antique and boutique chic! - This is more than a hotel. It’s a 450 year old palazzio with every room redone in a unique and fabulous way filled with antiques but modern and chic at the same time. The owner, Charlie, and receptionist, Sunita, are charming and welcoming. The hotel is on a quiet pedestrian street. Write to Charlie and he will arrange pick-up at the airport (€20). We left before breakfast but Sunita left us a wonderful selection of her home made pastries and several pieces of fruit. Valletta is so beautiful and so easily walkable. This is the perfect lodging. One last note: Charlie has a shop in the lobby where he sells unique and one of a kind pottery hand painted by his 23 artists. You’ll definitely want to check that out. We purchased a fabulous piece and we’re lucky enough to meet the artist. Don’t miss this place. We were treated to a tour of several rooms. Spring for the penthouse with its outdoor patio and views of the Grand Harbor!
- Steve (10/5): We'd stay there again in a heartbeat! - We were very glad that we chose Valletta Lucente for our accommodation in Valletta. The location is ideal. The hosts and staff are charming and very helpful. Breakfasts were generous and delicious with a number of homemade items. The room was gorgeous with only a slight lighting glitch indicating a nod toward form over function. We quickly forgot about it. If we ever travel to Valletta again we will definitely stay there.

- Peter (10/5): What a find! A perfect boutique hotel. - Lucente is a beautiful building, carefully and tastefully restored by its owners, in a fantastic location right in the centre of Valletta. The owners couldn’t have been more friendly and caring, even down to making the jams and cakes served at breakfast themselves. The beds were the most comfortable we have known and each room is individually designed. What a wonderful ‘find’ Valletta Lucente was and it suited us perfectly. We miss it already and will return.

Hotel is in the heart of the old city and was created by combining three houses without loosing the original character. Owners were very welcoming and helpful during my stay. The breakfast in the morning is full of fresh produce and freshly baked cakes and pastries.

The hotel itself is a work of art. Everything aspect of design seemed thought-out and personal. It, in itself, is worth exploring. It’s luxury without being pretentious. The breakfast is also fantastic. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Go visit and enjoy Malta!
- Vinaya (10/5): Charming Boutique Hotel - Villa Lucente is a gem of a place to stay in Valletta. It is in the heart of Valletta and almost every sightseeing place is within walking distance. It has the most incredible view of the harbour front from their terrace. We were bowled over by the hospitality of the owners Maryellen and Charles. This place is a labour of their love and a great deal of care has been taken in setting up this beautiful property. Highly recommend staying here.

They arranged taxi transfers for us, offered to provide an early breakfast on a morning that we had an excursion planned for 5:30, gave us great restaurant advice and provided us with a suite that was like a home away from home. They have really created a special place in a perfect location in the city. We highly recommend a stay there.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely Room and staff-particularly Sylvia. Minor issues only-one day towels were not changed and no coffee or milk left. Requested a hairdryer which we got immediately-however awoke on last morning to find it had been removed without asking. No phone in room meant couldn't query this or discuss anything immediately. Baring these issues we had an excellent stay and would recommend.
- S (10/5): - Very pleasant hotel located right in the centre of Valletta. The owners, Charles & Mary-Ellen, as well as their employee Sylvia were extremely friendly & charming, always keen to chat about anything and help with recommendations. Their warm welcome was what really made this place.The room was large, nicely decorated with a lot of personal flourishes and a lovely Maltese balcony. Breakfast was very nice, a healthy selection of fruits and yogurts as well as meat & cheeses. Couple of things to be aware of. Our room had a rather odd bathroom partition, with some parts of the doors transparent, which may disconcert some! As you're in the middle of the city, it can get noisy at night, and a church across the road has a tolling bell. I didn't mind this so much but again, this might not be to everyone's liking, so ask for a room away from the church if this bothers you. We hugely enjoyed our stay and with the above comments, would recommend it as a base in Valletta. They were such lovely lovely people!
