- Fathima (4/5): Very polite and helpful host! But facilities below our expectation. - The Room had a sofa set and dining table and chairs. Bath room was clean large and spacious. At time of booking we noticed it was mentioned breakfast included, but went we checked the host mentioned that it was not included, but he could provide for payment of Rs 2000 for breakfast per day! The fridge/freezer was a portable one in the communal area, for all the 3 rooms in the House. This place is on a hill and not easy to get about to shops and restaurant! They had a 3 wheeler and the host was kind enough to pick us from the station and when he is about will drop us off in the town area! We booked for 5 nights, but stayed only 2 nights as we didn't enjoy the stay in this place. The view was good as it is on a hill!

- Samantha (10/5): Great stay in Ella - We had a lovely stay at Monarch, the people who run it are really helpful and friendly. The rooms are massive and you get a lovely sunrise from the balcony if you wake up for it. Special mention for the breakfast, it was the best we’d had in Sri Lanka and such good value for money. I forgot to add it to our booking but old pay at the property. The location is great, quiet and if you go across the tracks, it’s quick into town. I think the ownership changed hands this year based on a previous owner response so I would only consider reviews January onwards.we are glad we ignored the negative ones before that because we had a lovely stay.

There is a short route that allows for easy access to the city within just five minutes. Due to the continuous rain, the owner provided us with free transportation to the city in the evening. Additionally, the room was very clean. It is an excellent place to stay, and given the value for the price, I highly recommend it. Nothing

- Michał (6/5): This hotel needs a renovation - The room was big and the location is good, close to the center. The staff was very nice and helpful. Breakfast was very good. Everything in the room is worn out. The floor is painted with a paint that is chipping off which make the room and bathroom looks like really dirty. The towels were smelly (with a smoke or something of that kind) so I had to use my towels instead. The socket are dropping out, the room is really asking for a renovation immediately. There is no AC which is fine, the fan is enough.

- Annelies (8/5): Very good - Very friendly personnel/owner always responded very quickly f you needed anything! There is no AC, but you don't need that in Ella. The rooms are provided with a fan to blow in some cool night air.

- Wijekumar (1/5): WORTH NOTHING FOR A STAY... - We stayed at there for two nights, the location was good and it's closed to ella town and railway station. These are only we like in this resort. Actually the resort lied to all visitors via booking.lk we didn't get any facilities in this resort. The all facilities mentioned in booking.lk we didn't received. Further no clean no changes of bed cloths and towels provided like a dirty carpet. In addition no hot water when we needed it's solar system. It's crazy no water force in.shower and toilet. also toilet with leak water in sink. So disappointed for this money. As mentioned no facilities like iron, hair dryer, Tv, broken chair which look like 100 years old which mentioned in booking.lk. We expected at least a better clean room and enough facilities but nothing received provided by the resort only a bed only...rest nothing worth for money. The reason I mentioned these because don't get cheated by these kind of resorts. People think about before making booking. Also booking.lk need to consider about this.. We unable to share the photos because we didn't taken it, we only complaint to the service as usual it's expected nothing he can do.

Lots of power cuts (off all night and most of another day and second evening) and no generators like other hotels in the area or next door so can't see in the room of an evening to do anything. Very basic but okay, could do with a deep clean and redecorating.

Warm water was available but I had to bath from tap as water pressure from showerhead was too weak. It is because I stayed during the rainy days, I felt the room damp and bed little smelly...Considering the price and location, I could not ask for more.

- Usha (1/5): Horrible stay at Monarch Ella - Monarch Ella Is not what photos and description claims . Bath rooms had extremely low pressure water dripping not even enough to wash hands or face .. when inquiried the owner was very unresponsive. Tte owner / manager was very unprofessional… staff was just 2 boys with no basic experience. Morning Tea was servers in dirty / broken tea cups. Breakfast choices were so deplorable had to decline to have breakfast. Monarch Ella Don’t even deserve one star. Monarch Ella Is very poor low standard Motel. Don’t be fooled by photos or by incorrect description.

- Sascha (8/5): Very good - Beautiful view. Comfortable bed. Host was very helpful It got very hot during the day and didn’t cool down at all in the evening. You have to leave all windows open to get some air but then there are lots of mosquitos and no mosquito net.
- Doris (7/5): Good - The Monarch Ella is very well located to Ella. With the shortcut along the traintracks Ellas mainroad is reached easily within 5 minutes. The room was big with a nice view on Little Adam's Peak. The host owns a hostel close to Little Adams Peak, so when we did an early morning hike there we could have breakfast at the hostel instead. The farmers in nearby had an electric generator starting it a 7 am. It is also quite close to the railway tracks so it was louder than expected, as other reviews described it as very quiet. Had some longer power cuts, so no electricity and WIFI, but problem was fixed within a day. Water pressure was hardly enough for washing hair in shoulder length.
- Mor (8/5): Very good - We stayed at the Monarch for 4 nights - we booked 2 rooms. The rooms were large and spacious, each room had a balcony, desk, sofa. The location is perfect - just a few min walk from the central street of Ella and literally in the forest. The owner was super kind and helped arrange trips for us during our stay and made nice breakfast daily. The room was clean. Overall it was good value for the money we paid. A few comments about the facility: - There is no real place to have breakfast or an actual lobby to the place - we had to eat breakfast in the room which was not super comfortable. Eventually we decided to eat outside in one of the very nice cafes around Ella town. - The rooms have no A/C - we thought it wouldn't bother us too much, but they got extremely hot during the day, so I would recommend checking the weather before getting there. There are fans which are OK for sleep, but during the day it was just too hot for us.

- Michael (5/5): Passable - Monarch Ella. Very nice, kind and helpful employee. I really appreciate this person, he made my stay pleasant, he is always helpful. The hotel itself has weak water pressure. It has no air conditioning, only a fan. I personally missed a coffee pot in the room. There is no classic window in the bathroom, but only slats and nam a gecko was walking on the ceiling. The location in Ella is good, everywhere is within walking distance. The advantage is a large, comfortable double bed, good breakfast and a nice guy who takes care of it here, great wifi.
- Russ (8/5): Clean but basic accommodation with great views from the balcony. - Very clean small hotel, on the hill just outside of the city. The big plus was the beautiful view from the balcony. The owner and the cleaning lady were both very helpful. Decent hot water and wifi. This place is good budget accommodation. The room I had was large but a bit empty and the bathroom is quite basic. However, if you want a clean and simple place, with beautiful views of the countryside, this might be for you.
