Guest Reviews
- David Burkin (9/5): A great place to stay - The welcoming staff - friendly and helpful. The dining chairs in the bedroom
- Catherine (10/5): A colourful gem of a hotel … that’s staff and setting. - Very comfortable and convivial hotel. The staff were such good value, kind, helpful and fun!! Brilliant location and excellent food both in the restaurant and at breakfast. All good
- Greiner (9/5): - Perfect for a visit of the Lagg distillery, within easy reach by foot. Nice Pub with friendly hosts adjacent.
- Mike (9/5): - Great stay, thank you Little guy loved the retro gaming machine
- Gavin (9/5): Superb hotel in a great location with lovely staff. - The Lagg is a fantastic hotel in a great location. The reception rooms were modern and comfortable, the bar had a house stout that was beautiful. The restaurant served tasty home style food. The bedroom was warm, clean and very comfortable with great amenities. The welcome from all staff was warm and genuine, thank you.
- Andrea (9/5): Charm and character in a quiet location - Charming place! The room was gorgeous and recently remodeled with historical decor (great wallpaper). The staff were friendly and accommodating, food was very good -- in the restaurant for dinner especially. Gorgeous walk to the beach begins across the street. Quietly located outside the island hub/tourist centre. Wifi didn't work (to be honest we kind of appreciated this to disconnect). Slightly chaotic feel but this added to the charm.
- Melanie (10/5): The Lagg hotel is a traditional Scottish inn with old fashion interior but has a sort of charm to it. The staff are extr - Staff, outside gardens, restaurant and pub
- Sarah (9/5): Fantastic hotel with excellent restaurant - Fantastic hotel with excellent restaurant
Very warm welcome and our family room was wonderful and super clean. Very spacious with everything you need
Fabulous breakfast cooked to order. You must try the scrambled eggs
We had a meal on one of our nights and can highly recommend the steak pie No view out of the room but that doesn’t matter as you have a day of views being on Arran
- Lauren (10/5): Friendly Pub - Clean and comfortable rooms, with a very friendly and welcoming staff and team. Excellent location for beach and distillery. Lovely food and the darts/pool table great after a day exploring the Island. NA
- Barbara (9/5): Ideal for 1st nights stay on Arran - Good food. Very comfortable beds. No sea view

- Joanna (10/5): Exceptional - everything I could have wished it to be! - Breakfast was great. I liked the location because it was more peaceful than other places and loved the authentic laid back vibe of the inn. The bed was comfortable.
- Hilary (3/5): Lovely room but all else very disappointing - Lovely back ! No fresh or tinned fruit . No fresh coffee. No choice but fry or toast . No yoghurt. Unfortunately poor number of staff and dirty tables .
- Janice (8/5): -
- Wendy (9/5): As a solo traveller, I felt very much at home at The Lagg - Hotel was in a lovely quiet, picturesque location. It was like stepping back in time. Staff were all very courteous, friendly, welcoming and accommodating. Food was delicious and piping hot. My bed was so comfortable. Thank you Single glazed windows a wee bit drafty and staff very loud underneath my window. All sounds from other guests loud and clear !! People talking outside my room and banging doors woke me at 6.30am !! Some background music in the breakfast room and restaurant would be nice. A change of bathroom towel. All minor things, but if fixed, could make a big difference
- Scott (10/5): - Breakfast was excellent and our favorite part was the sense of community that the staff was able to make with all customers at the bar. I can only nitpick here. During our stay, there want enough coffee packets for us. We understand there could be lots of reasons for this. Being located away from the biggest towns on a semi-remote island tends to create difficulties with supplies.
- Sheryl (10/5): - A lovely old historic building. The room was spacious and comfortable and the staff were very friendly. We had a good breakfast
- Lorna (10/5): -

- Lorna (10/5): Friendly staff & adorable collie dog gave us a huge welcome. The staff could not do enough for you made our stay at - The Lagg is a beautiful old building with comfortable bedrooms, sitting room & conservatory. The bar attached to The Lagg has a lot of character, games area & wonderful gardens. We loved everything
- Sarah (8/5): Great stay. - Friendly staff, good size room, nice breakfast, nice evening meal, good location for Arran way walkers. I know the owners are fairly new and will get on top of upgrading facilities when they can. All working and bath was welcome but in need of an upgrade.

- Christine (10/5): - Beautiful setting. Friendly staff.
Wonderful atmosphere.
Great place to meet other guests
Restaurat food great. .

- Lewis (9/5): -
- alexander (7/5): Relaxing, friendly break. - Very friendly and attentive staff. Quiet, rural location with comfortable residents lounge supplying games and reading materials. Had dinner on two occasions and enjoyed both meals. Asked to pay bill for four nights BnB on check-in which surprised me but due to rural, slightly casual attitude during day hours can understand why.
Cannot pinpoint reason but found breakfast somewhat mundane for me PERSONALLY although others enthused about it.
- Richard (8/5): - Lovely setting/excellent breakfast/extremely comfortable.
- Kenneth (10/5): The lagg Inn arran brilliant - The location was excellent room was massive had a wee garden area right outside the double doors what more could you ask for The everyone staff were amazing nothing was a problem so welcoming defo be back
- Emilie (10/5): Amazing place and staff in beautiful surroundings - The Lagg is an absolutely beautiful place to stay in a peaceful and stunning location. The rooms were spacious and spotless and the beds incredibly comfortable. What made it such a great stay was how warm and friendly the staff were - we cannot thank them enough. We would absolutely love to stay here again someday and would recommend it to anyone! Nothing - we absolutely loved it!
Excellente literie. Toute l'équipe est très sympathique. Adresse à retenir !

- FedeMassa (9/5): SEMPLICEMENTE SPLENDIDO - LOCANDA TIPICA ISOLATA LUNGO LA STRADA NEL SUD DELL'ISOLA. SEMPLICEMENTE STUPENDA E TENUTA BENISSIMO. STANZA NON GRANDA MA PULITA E MOLTO CURATA. GIARDINO LUNGO IL FIUME VERAMENTE AMOREVOLE. ABBIAMO USUFRUITO DEL RISTORANTE PER LA CENA CON POCHI PIATTI ESSENZIALI E TIPICI. INDIMENTICABILE COLAZIONE STANDARD MA MODESTA
- James (10/5): beautiful stay in a gorgeous historic building - Beautiful old building with gorgeous grounds. Wonderful staff, delicious breakfast.
We had “the original room”, so it was wonderfully quirky (with a slanted bathroom)
- Monique (9/5): -
- Rohit (9/5): Wonderful weekend on the Isle of Arran. Great ambiance at the hotel. - Lovely hotel with friendly staff. Breakfast and dinner options were limited but more than adequate. Rooms were clean and bright, Location was great. Will definitely stay again next time we come to the Isle of Arran

- Piras Musitelli (9/5): -
- Damian (7/5): Store friendly with beautiful location - Super friendly staff. Dinner and breakfast were great. Liked being able to hang out in the evening in the bar area and play darts and pool. Special shout out to Sam the dog. Whilst it is charming and comfortable it is need of some doing up and it was very expensive for what it is.
- Paul (8/5): -
- Caroline (10/5): - When we arrived we were upgraded to the Campbell suite because they had had a leak in the room we booked. The room was very large with lovely doors leading onto a seating area over looking a lovely garden, a very peaceful setting. The bed was very comfortable. Cooked breakfast was great. All the staff were very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Would have been nice to have a selection of fruit and yoghurt at breakfast.
- Lindsay (10/5): - Great staff, great food, lovely touches in the room!
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Marie-Claire (1/5): -
- Barbara (10/5): Fantastic retreat - Such a lovely location. The staff were brilliant and the food was amazing. We would highly recommend this place. There was nothing we didn't like.
- wouter (7/5): redelijk - service
- Laila (10/5): Great location with a lot of character just a wee bit away from the overly tourist bits of Arran - Had a bed and breakfast rate. Full breakfast individually prepared in an allocated dining room.
Jules and her team all very friendly.
We are in the hotel for three consecutive nights. It does not pretend to be fine dining but it does deliver excellent hearty freshly cooked meals. Steak and ale pie a stand out. We wanted something simple on the last night and pizzas really hit the mark.
As an adjunct to the hotel is the Lagg Bar. Great place to meet Arronites and recent arrivals, share life stories and just chill in a special part of Scotland. Our next hotel on the mainland is much more formal and we are harking back to the great time we had over three nights in Arran.
- Ryan (10/5): -
- David (10/5): Great place to stay, staff very friendly, food excellent - Great place to stay. Room was great, clean, and bed very comfortable. Had dinner in the restaurant which was excellent. The home made pizza dough was very good. Can also recommend the steak pie. The bread roll with the soup was also really tasty. Found out that it was also freshly made by the chef. The breakfast was also very good, freshly made to order. An added bonus was that the Lagg distillery was just a 15 minute walk up the road.
- RUTH (8/5): -
- Michael (8/5): Comfortable and welcoming. - We saw a red squirrel from our bedroom window.
- Kathleen (8/5): Lovely quiet location with friendly staff. - Lovely location. Lovely old building, decor in character. Warm, clean and quiet. Staff friendly.
- hindley (7/5): Enjoyable - Breakfast very good.
Dinner - fine, but a bit 'chips with everything'
Room comfortable. Nice toileteries.
Very hands off/relaxed atmosphere generally Large dog at top of stairs: completely placid but made it difficult for my 90 year old mother to negotiate (we love dogs and our dogs were very happy)
- Duncan (6/5): A wee bit disappointed, we have such fond memories of the place! - Location is fantastic. Food, menu was unimaginative and food not well presented. Public bar has a minus level of atmosphere. Decor in bar and breakfast room not appealing, a bit too bare. Did not like the cook coming in to take breakfast orders in shorts and a baseball cap.
- Iain (8/5): -
- Robert (10/5): The Lagg is wonderfully situated, very romantic! -

- kerr-graves (8/5): - The proprietor was welcoming and accommodating. I was in the single bed room which was very comfortable and had a lovely bathroom.
- Marie-louise (5/5): - De lokatie was mooi.
- McGuire (10/5): Give yourself a break and book here! - We had an amazing trip - the staff created a warm, friendly environment and were incredibly helpful. Would highly recommend. And if you have the breakfast, make sure you opt for the scrambled egg, delicious. Thanks to all the staff. Nothing.
- David (8/5): -
- Matt (10/5): Extremely welcoming staff with great food in a lovely clean room -
- Duncan (8/5): Very good service. We paid a lot for a good room with a really comfortable bed. - Breakfast was fine. Bed was very comfortable. Toiletries good. Very good service. Fruit at breakfast would have been good. Place sold itself as a boutique/country house hotel when it's more like a welcoming country pub with some nice rooms.
- Marion (9/5): An enjoyable short break. - Good rooms and good breakfast.
- Mike (9/5): Excellent stay- thank you - Great breakfast very friendly 👌🏻
- matthew (10/5): -

- Kevin (10/5): Excellent four night stay at the Lagg hotel - Friendly welcome. Helpful and informative owner. Comfortable accommodation. Excellent breakfast, cooked fresh but fast. Excellent food in restaurant on the two evenings we ate there. Very convenient for visiting Lagg distillery. Could only stay four nights !
- Tom (8/5): -
- david (10/5): -
- Stephen (10/5): Loved it - The history and the staff Nothing
- JOHN (10/5): Arran must stay for tranquility, good food & fantastic staff - The idelic setting with up-beat attentive staff made the stay fantastic. Nothing
- Louise (10/5): Cracking little stay on the beautiful Isle Of Arran. - Our one night stay was amazing. The service from the staff was excellent, they were warm and friendly with nothing a bother. The family room we had was large and spacious with a large bathroom en suite. The bed was comfy and bedding nice and cosy. The best bit about the stay was the food. Our evening meal was tasty and delivered with the same exceptional service, but the Breakfast was just yum!! What a great place to stay! Very few things to bring up, but like most places the rooms are a bit dated. This didn't effect our stay.
- MARK SCHEMBRI WISMAYER (3/5): Disappointing but expensive - Location
Pleasant gentleman served a decent breakfast Very badly run down with old furniture, carpets and mattreses. Poor plumbing in the bathrooms with taps falling off.
Fireplace non functioning.
Pub food standard of dinner menu
- kay (8/5): - Location, staff, food,
- Jason (9/5): - The service, the food, and the rooms were great! The room got a little bit warm, but that was a minor issue.
- Esther (8/5): Brilliant stay at The Lagg - Location was perfect. Food was amazing. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Bed was super comfy. Dog was the best! Room was a little bit outdated
- Deirdre (10/5): Ideal base for exploring Arran - Stunning location on the isle of Arran, gorgeous old building dating from the 18th century, super friendly owners and staff. Ideal base for exploring Arran
