- David (4/5): Great location, Great staff, went downhill from there..... - Okay positives the staff are super friendly, the Pizza was amazing and they have local beer which was great. The bed was very comfortable. First off this is a strange one, There was lots to like but it was all overshadowed by the bits that let it down. if you look at my past reviews, I generally give glowing reviews, I value feedback in my business and always try to look on the good. I was in room 16 and the hotel has funky door locks, which worked well to unlock, but I couldnt figure out how to lock it again, and every time I tried it said battery low - its no big deal to me and I didnt mention it as I dont ever leave anything valuable in my room anyway and it just meant that I didnt need to use. the lock again. The shower was at best a tiny diribble and I mean that, just a dribble, the room is at the top and end of the hotel. It was almost to the point I didnt bother showering and just washed. The kettle is in a strange place with the worlds shortest lead, every time I lifted the kettle off the stand it dropped under the table. The TV only gets BBC1 with a clear signal, EVERY other channel is glitchy and just unwatchable. The breakfast (only had it the first day) was terrible, the bacon was barey cooked, the mushrooms, tinned were luke warm at best, the toast was limp, great bread but just not toasted. The strangest one for me is the milk situation, I was up 2 flights of stairs, along 2 hallways etc, the milk is fresh and stored in a fridge in the dining room which doubles up as reception, I just couldnt be bothered or had the capacity to carry the little bottles to the room - I know this bit is not the hotels problem but I recently had a hip replacment so with my bags, laptop etc, it was all just too much.

- Michelle (4/5): Not what it used to be under a different management - disappointing. - The location. Cleanliness, repairs needed in room (rotten skirting board, big crack in ceiling above shower, paint flaking off walls in bathroom), breakfast looked good but not nice (mushrooms out of a tin, too much bacon and some of it was grey in colour, felt like it needed to be used so they gave us extra) very noisy on one night in particular as our room was above the bar and thumping music didn't stop until 11.15 pm. Watr hadn't been emptied out of the kettle or coffee machine from previous occupants and the binbag in the bathroom had been changed so still had rubbish in. Only a small amount of shower gel in bottle which was watery and the top of the pump of the conditioner bottle had broken so when I took it off to use the conditioner, there was mold around the top of the bottle.

El lugar es muy bonito y las habitaciones se ven renovadas, actuales y con encanto, con cafetera y kettle en la habitación. El suelo es moqueta, pero se veía limpia y no desprendía ningún olor desagradable. La cama era cómoda y había posibilidad de aparcar dentro del hotel (aunque no hay muchas plazas). Si accedes por carretera y nunca has conducido por la izquierda, puede ser toda una aventura.

- Mark (8/5): Such a relaxing stay, would like to return. - The location was a pleasant surprise, surrounded by wonderful woodland on a picturesque village setting. Easy parking too! The breakfast was fabulous, with an extensive menu selection and locally sourced food, well presented and tasty. Continental and cooked breakfast included in the price. There were some signs of damp in the older window unit in the room, and a small patch of black mould on the ceiling. However overall the room was clean and everything worked. Appreciated that the issue was likely one of ventilation where windows were not opened. It was not clear where the reception was to check in so some clearer signage would be useful.

- Michelle (10/5): Perfect place to stay if you like the outdoors, hiking, cycling, dog walks etc - Lovely clean room, food was really nice & tasty. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Super location in the middle of the Surrey Hills, dog friendly & perfect stop off for mountain bike riders. Very popular with mountain bikers so parking was abit limited.

- Ann (10/5): Perfect place to stay to make the most of mountain biking in Peaslake - Lovely small hotel which was nice and quiet even though it's above a pub and was a hive of activity with the cyclists. Easy to get a meal at night in the pub and they served an exceptional breakfast! 10/10. Staff were lovely and friendly, a very relaxed feel to the place. Comfortable beds. Nothing, it was all great.

Restaurant next door also very good. Feels like you're on holiday, even for one night The only thing that was frustrating was that there was no milk in the room. It was in the fridge downstairs, but that was a pain. Some uht milk cartons would be a great back up plan please! We couldn't get our coffee machine to work, but we were only there one night.

- Miriam (3/5): Comfy room but don’t stay in room 5 if you want a good night’s sleep. - Breakfast was lovely! Staff were great. Room was comfortable. Lots of nice tea/coffee etc The shower tray didn’t drain- kept having to stop the shower before it overflowed. Also, our room was above the toilets in the pub-every time someone used the hand drier it was extremely loud in our room-it was really hard to get to sleep. Also, the ventilation to the pub’s kitchen was by our room’s window on a flat roof-it was so noisy. Finally, we heard a very loud conversation/argument between a guest and a member of staff on night time duty very late at night - it woke me up. The guest had gone down to reception to report no WiFi in her room and chatted with the person on duty over an intercom system. The conversation was inadvertently broadcast on a speaker outside of our room (upstairs). We heard everything, loudly. The room was comfy and the staff were lovely, but maybe the manager should trial a night in room 5 on a Saturday night so he can fix the issues.

- Valerium (10/5): Wonderful place - Lovely location and very quiet. Quaint village. Great room with comfortable bed, excellent shower, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. Lots of choice for breakfast. We had a full english and a vegetarian option, both excellent. Ate in the restaurant next door in the evening. Lovely food here too. All the staff were helpful and friendly. We liked everything.
- Sophie (4/5): Overall very disappointing and not showing value for money at all - The building and location are ideal and pleasant. Good parking facilities and generously sized rooms. Nice communal areas and a good bar in the pub. Several issues which we have encountered before when staying previously, had hoped things would have improved. This has us considering other options on our return visits throughout the year. 1. The lamps next to the bed regularly flash when on - suggest the wrong bulb is being used as these are controlled by a standard switch as well as a dimmer switch. Also one set of windows are rotten and moldy, not at all pleasant!!! 2. The Spa bath needs to be properly cleaned and regularly. On turning it on lots of black debris came out of the jets and was floating around the bath, there is a lot of mold around the silicone on the bath and the shower head badly needs descaling too, just a simple quarterly descale and check of appliance is needed but this should be part of your legionella and water hygiene routine checks. 3. Food. The food in the restaurant/pub is pretty shoddy but we noted this from last time and had hoped it had improved. The breakfast was a real disappointment to us sadly and is one of the main reasons we are considering elsewhere on our next stay in Peaslake. On the first morning the cooked breakfast came out cold. Near raw sausage and bacon, cold and slimy mushrooms, overcooked fried egg and toast that had barely seen a heating element. We were surprised that we hadn't been asked the basics of white/brown toast or asked how we like our eggs (fried, poached etc). We asked for poached eggs that were then brought out on a separate plate, rock solid and cold! We did ask for the breakfast to be redone and instead received the same food back just slightly warmer, this time the bread had been stuck in a frying pan to reheat it! Know this for a fact as the slice came out rimmed with bean juice, on a breakfast plate that had no beans. All round a huge let down.

The breakfast was amazing,I dont usually eat in the morning but I just had to as it was too good to miss ! Nothing that I can think of 😀

The third bed, good for a child but not for an adult. That should be made clear. Also, it would have been nice for the cups to be changed for the second night of our stay. They were later when we asked. My fault but the hotel was further from Guildford than I realised on back roads.

- matthew (9/5): A great value hotel, with a warm and cosy charm. A gem. - My stay wasn't perhaps the best timed. Outside the heavens opened, the road became a river, and you needed a bridge just to get to the bar, and It continued to rain for two solid days - but the hotel was the perfect bolt-hole. A warm and cosy bar, real log fires, good beer, excellent food, and really friendly staff. It may have been hellish outside, but it was close to heaven inside. It's not a chain hotel, and the building is over a hundred years old, so don't expect the usual generic fixtures and furnishings. It has character - and dogs, muddy boots, and refugees from any passing storm are all made very welcome. Most of the staff appear to be local youngsters, but you wouldn't know it from their friendly professionalism. A great breakfast selection too. The weather, but I'm not holding the hotel responsible for that.

Just a shame about the food prices and breakfast quality. - The staff were very friendly upon arrival and the room was beautifully laid out with everything you needed for an overnight stay! The only things that i believe let the place down was the food at breakfast - it was okay, but not great. The pub served food but I refused to pay the prices. £6.95 for a portion of sweet potato fries? Very pricey.

- Steve (6/5): Fabulous staff… needs a deep clean and some tlc - The staff were excellent, comfortable bed and clean sheets and towels. Clean bathroom. Big mugs at breakfast. Good selection. Nice pub. Could be fabulous with a deep clean and some tlc Entrance poor, unloved. Rubbish and weeds. Cold breakfast. Cracked tiles in bathroom. Part of tap missing on sink. Dirty dingy carpet on stairs. Lots of dust on surfaces. Cracked window. Dirty windows. Dirty sills. Limited parking. Pub closes at 1830 Sundays and nowhere else to get food in the village. Limited parking.

- Carolyn (7/5): Really friendly .. great for hiring or own bike cycling - Never been to the Surrey Hills before. Very nice area. Better if I’d got my bike … not somewhere I’d stay again for a work stopover as roads twisty and narrow to get there. Lovely for a proper cycling hideaway break. Grubby carpet on the stairs… would t it be better to just have painted wooden stairs? I never understand why hotels have carpeted stairs when there’s so much traffic with outdoor shoes on?!

We liked how there was a menu for breakfast and hot options were made to order. Our original plans had to be adapted due to a death in the family and the staff at this hotel were incredibly accommodating at a very difficult time for us. Nothing

- Jeannette (7/5): Lovely area for walking or cycling and hotel is a good choice for doing this - Hotel fulfilled its purpose for a one night stay to attend a wedding at a nearby venue. Room and bathroom were compact but reasonably comfortable. Everything was of an acceptable standard. Not fantastic but fine for a short stay in a lovely area.

- NIGEL (10/5): Comfortable, cosy and friendly. - Everything was perfect. The room was great, and everything we needed was there. The staff are so friendly and make you feel really welcome. This was our second visit within a couple of months and although we saw different staff this time due to holidays, they were equally as friendly as the others. It's a very homely place to stay, with the staff trusting you to come and go as you please etc. The dog was welcomed and nobody scoffed or scorned at her being with us at breakfast time. It's things like this that make you enjoy where you stay and we wouldn't go anywhere else now. Leaving.

- Keith (4/5): Disappointed - It was a bit disappointing. I was hoping it would be more cosy and warm. The bar and restaurant and staff in the restaurant were friendly and welcoming but we couldn’t stay there to keep warm!!! Breakfast was adequate but if you wanted toast, you had to ask for it, if you wanted spreads you had to ask and specify which spread. I guess it was economics. Ditto the heating. The room was cold when we arrived and didn’t really heat up. On our third day the hall heating was off which added to the cold. It was difficult to find a warm quiet area to relax. I asked for an extra blanket. Maybe there could be more smiles and hospitality?
- lindsay (6/5): The staff and food were great and they were so helpful. It was the condition of the rooms that wasn’t great. - The staff were lovely and very helpful. The facilities weren’t great. It was quite tired and could have done with new carpets/curtains. It was not a great hotel for anyone with mobility issues. The showers were not really equipped for anyone who needed to hang on to something. And carpets were frayed and a trip hazard.
- Richard (9/5): Very comfortable stay, in part due to brilliant staff. - Staff were lovely. Room was very spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. Cooked breakfast was delicious. The only thing which I would mention is that the shower, although very effective, would benefit from some maintenance and replacement of parts.
- Ian (10/5): Excellent srandards - Friendly welcome. Quick easy check-in. Good quality rooms with good facilities- nice that hot choc included along with usual tea and coffee. Very good breakfast options with quality food. Free parking too. Can’t think of anything to fault - we’ve stayed a few times and high standards are being maintained.

- Susanne (7/5): - The rooms are very comfortable. Dinner was delicious Breakfast was disappointing. Poached eggs were over cooked and muffins were as hard as cardboard. No communication between staff. I popped into the hotel at lunchtime to let staff know I’d be just after 6pm and will be eating. I still got a phone call during the afternoon to enquire as to when I’d arrive and if I would like dinner. So message hadn’t been passed on.
