- jakev311 (4/5): Impossible to find - My girlfriend and I had been driving all day coming from El Salvador. We found the Caribbean in on Expedia and booked a room through the app. We spent well over an hour attempting to locate this place. The neighborhood it’s in was sketchy at best. Although it’s no fault of the establishment, between Google maps and iPhone maps we were unable to successfully locate it. I believe we may have driven past it a few times however the real issue was that there was no signage nor lighting that designated whatever building may have been the Caribbean in as a hotel.
My sincere advice to the owners and/or administration is to set up a sign and a light so the travelers can locate your establishment.
When I went to cancel the reservation through Expedia I was informed that it was a nonrefundable reservation. Via the Expedia customer service representative I was notified that the administration was offering to help us find the location and conversely was also willing to refund our money. At that point we were already 30 km away so we opted for the refund.
I would have provided more stars in the review had we been able to actually locate the hotel
- O7707RUjosephl (8/5): A beautiful escape - I stayed at this lovely family-owned inn for four days, from Dec. 13-17. The owner Emilio and his wife Caroline and their children, are incredibly kind, attentive and helpful. The breakfast is plentiful and buffet style so you eat as much as you like and the Caroline cooks delicious meals for lunch and supper on demand. Located right on the beach, this is the perfect place to escape to relax. You can walk for kilometers along the beach in both directions without coming across another person.
In other words, the inn is quite secluded (about 15 minutes from Tela city centre by taxi) and the only shops nearby are tiny local businesses with a very limited selection. The area is a Garifuna village and it is very poor. I never felt unsafe, but it's not a place where you could walk around flashing valuables.
The inn was built by the family and every inch of it has a personal touch of some kind, such as an ornament or painting, etc...If you're looking for a quiet place to read, relax and breath a little, this is the perfect spot.

- dizzyoctopus (8/5): Very laid back beach hotel - Small rooms but clean, right on the beach. Winter is a great time to go there because they have no AC. No TV which is great for me, nice plantings, clean beach, and a fishing village close by within walking distance. The best thing other than the location was the outstanding food. Fresh fish, vegetables, reminded me of the Mediterranean.
- E5247JLronl (8/5): Not what you would expect but wonderful - This is a quaint rustic property steps away from the ocean. Situated in a Garifuna village it may shock some people but the Garifuna are very friendly and helpful when we couldn't find a door for the property. Close to the highway the GPS took us right to the door. FYI it has no sign or font door. We walked around to the beach side and came in that way. This was a clean well cared for property and they did everything to look after us. The owner cooked us a fantastic meal that night and a wonderful breakfast in the morning. This is not for everyone but it is beautiful and inexpensive. Thank you to the owner and her daughter
- NCSM2014 (10/5): Peaceful and in touch with Nature - We spent the day at this unique, small inn in order to eat a wonderful lunch at the beach that most locals visit.
The host/owner contacted me prior to our arrival in order to give us a briefing of the catch of the day, and menu so that we could choose, and so that she could prepare it.
When we arrived the hist and her family members went out of her way to please us and had set the table on the beach just as we requested.
This is a clean, simple, safe, unique and small inn that I highly recommend if you wish to visit something out of the ordinary, in a small garifuna beach community.
- MegNewHampshire (10/5): Charming seaside property - My first trip here exceeded my expectations by far. The charming rooms and the overall unique decor made our stay relaxing and comfortable. The fresh conch was the best I've ever tasted, and all the entrees are made to order. Our hostess treated us like family. I would highly recommend it for those visiting the area.
- didias2015 (10/5): A calm and beautiful place - I have been in this amazing places a couple of time and I always enjoy to take a nap in an Hamaca in front of the beach, I really love it. Could not be a five star hotel but it's beach and staff it's a five star. This is a place to get away from the noise of the city and really relax.
- BarisA210 (10/5): Amazing experience just outside of Tela - Ok, now you are in the Caribbean side of Honduras. It is completely different experience than the rest of the country in a good way.
I stayed here for three days. I drove from all the way Copan to Tela. This hotel is about 5-6 km after Tela., and 1and half hour from the san Pedro Sula airport. If you are driving, keep your GPS on because there no signs on the road. There are busses to Tela, and then you can take the taxi to get here.
The roads will be a distant memory when you arrive at the hotel Its is ocean front hotel. You can park your car on the street, its very safe and secure. I was warmly welcomed. First impression of the place was inviting, hearing ocean and feeling the breeze was amazing.
The rooms were big, beds are comfortable and big too, clean, and cozy. I stayed at room number 3.
The beach is also quiet and in front of the hotel is pretty clean.
Mr. Emilio and his family were very friendly and helpful. They are known and respected by in the community. His wife is an excellent cook: you do not have to find another place to eat. They were so kind to take me to Tela for my daily needs. The food is fresh each day. They shop everyday.
You must need a mosquito spray for sure. But if you ask them, I am so sure they may have some available for you.
It is a great place for couples, families, and solo travelers like I am. Ocean is cleaner around this hotel bay. If you want to go partying or bar experience in Tela, they find a taxi for you for extra safety.
Of I go back to Tela again, this place will be my home to stay for sure.
ps: The locals are super friendly, but please ask them before taking any photographs. They will appreciated.
- rabbitdog08 (10/5): The best relaxing place in Tela - This was the third time we stayed in this resort, which is the best relaxing place in Tela in our mind already.
My friends and I, we dislike the noise. After we returned the hotel, we broght food, beers and walked out to the beach directly. We danced, watched the star there. Sometimes, we did nothing but listen to the sound of the waves.
The room is clean, we enjoy falling asleep with the sound of the wave. That's one of the reasons we kept visiting there.
Carolina, the host, is super kind and sweet with excellent service. It will be perfect if the breakfast could improve a little bit, with this, Haha, I will never want to go home...long stay!!
Thank you for creating such a wonderful place to make us refill the energy. Thanks for being so kind to make us feel comfortable there.
- 745anitac (8/5): Great stay just outside of Tela - We stayed here for two days to break up our journey from Puerto Cortes to Utilla and we're glad we did. We were a little concerned as we arrived late at night and the place was really hard to find as there is no sign. However we were so happy when we arrived.
We were warmly welcomed and the room was wonderful. You could here the waves crashing on the beach. One of the best nights sleep I've had in a while. The rooms were exceptional clean, large and comfortable and the place is safe and secure.
The hotel is in the next bay around from tela which is nice because it's a bit quieter and safer than Tela. The beach is also quiet and pretty clean. Be ware sandflies - they're vicious here! (Baby oil works really well to stop them).
The hosts were very friendly and helpful. They happily called for taxis for us, and they knew the drivers so you weren't taken advantage of.
The continental breakfast had fresh squeezed juices and nice bread and cereals and fresh fruit.
Make sure you take the main tarmac road, the other one is a very bumpy ride on a pot holed dirt road.
- mochon (4/5): Dissappointing experience - We went to this place only because other hotels in Tela area were fully occupied. When we decided to pay 70USD which normally would be enough for 3-5 nights for us, we expected something special.
We had a very bad first impression made by an older American-looking manager. I understand that in Central America there is little trust among people and you have to pay when checking-in and not when checking-out. We have only little money in our daily pocket, so we needed to take it from another purse hidden in our luggage. The manager did not want to let us into the cabin so we could intimately unpack our luggage and hand over money. This was really strange and not welcoming.
The cabin itself is nice and the atmosphere is very relaxing within the hotel. However, if you can afford staying in this place you will not appreciate rundown village surroundings. If you are a backpacker - you probaly will enjoy it.
I hated the dog which belongs to the hotel manager and runs around the property unleashed. He barkled during the night waking us up around 5:00. I was too sleepy to find and kill the noise source.
Breakfast is very basic - just coffee, some fruit and yoghut with cerals. I come from a country where breakfast is a very important meal and is not just a croissant like in France. We ate everything we found and were still hungry.
Please, read other reviews. The place has a great potential and maybe we just had bad luck coming during manager's bad day.
if you still decide to go there and want to use your GPS device, go to N 15,81407 W 87,40960 - the location written at their website is incorrect.
Enjoy!
- Jess9863 (6/5): Great Owners! - After being told our reservation was not really a reservation we were directed my a local man to this place. Upon entering we felt a warm welcome by Emillo. He stated that he may have a room but I am pretty sure he felt our exhausted (after traveling for over 5 hours we were). His family quickly changed over a room and we were able to throw on our suits. We used paypal to pay which worked very well because they have wifi.
There was a large family staying at there due to Easter weekend but we never felt unwelcome.
There were large roaches!! However, your in the tropics and on the beach... we survived. The room we were in was very musty so we slept with the door opne and the fan on... we had no concerns during our sleep.
There was a male staff member that was the sweetest kid...you can tell he really wanted to try to make things perfect. Same with their eldest daughter.. she asked if there was anything we needed and she was cuet and cheery :)
The only thing we found odd was in the morning... we had to be in La Ceiba for 10am..and Emillo said he would call us a cab to take us to the highway around 730. By 8, he wasn't out of the house.. even when it came to paying our tab we had to use paypal again so we needed him to sent us an invoice...again he never came out to discuss anything with us or wish us off.. we ened up walking a bit to the highway until a guy with his horse and carriage told us we were loco and motioned for us to get on. Very nice guy!
Overall our evening, dinner, and sleep were good but the morning was odd.
The beach was really nice! Great swimming... just LOTS of garbage... not sure if it was because it was Easter or what.. but it could be an amazing beach but when trying to doge garbage while walking was gross and annoying.
They had tourism police on the beach.. if they invested in some garbage cans and eduction..and some walkways ect it could be a great tourist spot!
- Harms1972 (10/5): Rustic, but awesome!!! - We were here for two nights and had a wonderful experience. The lush greenery of a beautiful garden was such a welcome sight. Emilio and his family were gracious hosts. The place was clean, quiet, and we were able to relax. The food was awesome and the sopa de caracol was absolutely delicious. Carolina is a wonderful cook! We enjoy the tortillas, beans, eggs and everyone else that was served. We also enjoyed the inner-action with their wonderful children.
We hope to go back in the near future and would love to take the entire family.
- 906danae (4/5): A nice place to visit but not stay - This beautiful but troubled village is in a state underdeveloped even by Honduran standards. There are more buildings unfinished... ruins of good intentions... than habitable ones. Drunkards feel free to approach you and expect hugs and a drink. We had some villagers warning us against the friendliness of other villagers. Even so, it would be well worth the time to visit this authentic Garifuna village. The fisherman, the older women cooking, the amazingly beautiful young people, the wonderful beach that has soft sand, peaceful feel, delightful swimming... all good reasons to visit Triufino de la cruz. But we can not recommend staying at the Caribbean Coral Inn. The food was extremely over priced (four times what you will find a block away), The woman who does the work for the Inn is pleasant enough, but the owner was hot and cold, acted very superior, and in the end was at least very suspicious, confused, and treated us as if we did not intend to pay them for our stay... even after payment was made in the manner indicated in the web site. At worst Emilio Vargas was trying to procure a double payment. Be mindful that in part of the web site they put themselves forward as a married couple but when it comes to payment she uses her maiden name. We can say unequivocally that her four children are delightful, intelligent, and make the stay almost worth putting up with mattresses that are more like hammocks, dogs barking all hours of the night, and the very poor treatment we received at the hands of the owner.
- a71602 (8/5): Pure Bliss Hidden in a Garden Oasis - Stayed at CCI for 2 nights with my 11 year old daughter as a side trip from our base in Tela. From the moment you enter through the gates of the property, you are met with the most lush greenery of a beautiful garden oasis. Emilio and his wife Carolina are two of the most gracious hosts we could have ever met. From the onset of our arrival we felt extremely welcomed.
Traveling with a youngster and not wanting to deal with the 'What are we going to eat tonight,' we opted for the American Plan consisting of a lovely Continental spread for breakfast, and (2) very solid and exquisitely prepared 3-course meals for both lunch and dinner. Carolina is a wonderful cook and her food is some of the best I have eaten both on the home front as well as abroad.
For anyone who wants to know, indeed, the cabins are rustic, but not uncomfortable. The wi-fi throughout the property kept my daughter and I quite at ease during those nights when the sound of the crashing waves were too much for our ears. All in all we enjoyed our stay wholeheartedly. My daughter wants to go back. I would definitely stay at CCI in the future when I am in the Atlantida Dept of Honduras.
- JacobH735 (8/5): Nice place - We stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed our time. Before I forget...wear bug spay in Tela!!! I have never gotten so many bug bits in my life and I basically didn{t sleep for two nights after leaving Tela. Ok...on to the review...The highlight was our cabin and the food. The cabins were fun and spacious and the food was delicous. There is very little in the way of food in the surounding town so you are kind of stuck eating at the Inn...but it was super tasty so no big deal. 2 nights was a good length for us there. Also the town in a Garifuna village which was great to experience.
- Just_Browsing12 (8/5): Homey, intimate b&b on its own patch of beach - Great place, very friendly owners with home cooked meals and a chill vibe. Also quite solid for the price.
We prefer this kind of small spot to a large or built up hotel. It is in a fairly isolated location - *not* in or adjacent to Tela itself, so keep that in mind depending on your plans.
- 625RobertK (10/5): Beautiful, friendly, relaxing - We spent part of our honeymoon here - travelled all the way from NZ. I had stayed here before, but my wife hadn't. We chose it because it's a beautiful place, the family who runs it is very friendly and helpful, they cook amazing food, it's right on the beach, it feels safe, it's a bit further away from town so there's no temptation to walk around town - the only options are to relax on the beach, in the hammocks or in the bedroom.
Our flight was delayed a few hours but Emilio was still there waiting to pick us up from the airport when we landed, without a word of complaint.
We would definitely love to stay here again when we're in Honduras.
