Guest Reviews
Merci beaucoup.
- Dianne (9/5): - Comfortable, roomy accomodation. Perfect location feels like a home from home. Owners also very friendly and responsive if you do have a question.
- Stephanie (9/5): Lovely cottage in a great location. - Clean. Great garden. Comfy beds Would have been great to have a few teabags, milk and salt and pepper. Also, maybe if a lamp could have been left on as we arrived in the dark.
- Adrian (9/5): Georgeous little cottage within distance from all local activities - Property was comfy, clean and cosy. Wanna bit cold but electric blankets helped.
- kenneth (9/5): Great location - great facilities - very cosy - kids loved it -
- Lorna-Ann (10/5): Fantastic property in great location. - Location & facilities Nothing

- Catherina (9/5): Wonderful cottage in a great location to explore the Cairngorms. - Interesting layout and history of the cottage. We loved the big garden with lots of wildlife, we enjoyed watching the house martins, pheasants and hares. The house was warm and comfortable with plenty of books, games and our kind of music CDs and DVDs and local information. Being an artist myself I appreciated how the cottage was decorated with Dermod's colourful paintings. The bed was a bit too firm for us.
- Gaye (9/5): Cozy comfortable cottage in a delightful country setting. - We loved the coziness and comfort of the cottage. Very private and spacious. It was equipped with everything we needed and instructions were clearly in a folder. Loved the heated towel rail and the touch light in the bathroom mirror. Comfy bed and couch. Easy parking at the door made unpacking easy. Wifi was great. We even went sledding on the snow. Also the owner Dermod was happy to help with our only query regarding the TV operation. The timing of the heater in the lounge was a bit off and we didn’t manage to adjust it and the shower heater occasionally went cold.
- Arren (7/5): Lovely cosy cottage. Great for the wildlife park - Very cosy Beds very uncomfortable
- Lee (9/5): Superb -
- Semley (10/5): Very good cottage beautiful views - Warm cozy very well laid out beautiful paintings There wasn’t anything to dislike
- Kathleen (9/5): Fantastic!! - Lovely cottage, set in lovely grounds, plenty of birds/wildlife to sit and watch.Nice and quiet. Garden fenced in and large, good for my boys to run around in. Outside seating and fire pit(boys loved this). Shed available for extra storage needs. Cottage well equipped and clean/looked after.
- William (9/5): Superb -
- Chloe (10/5): A really beautiful stay - Second stay at Shetland Cottage and it was just as magical as the first! Such a beautiful, well kept cottage with a lovely garden - we really enjoyed sitting out there of an evening and listening to the HWP wolves howl this time. Really handy for the dog too, who loves to run about it with her toy. Handy location for exploring the Highlands and beyond. Dermod is communicative and accommodating, agreeing to our local friend visiting us for the day for a home cooked lunch in the cottage. We are hoping to book our 3rd trip very soon. Thanks for an amazing stay!
- Heide (8/5): A colourful, friendly quiet spacious holiday cottage with a lot of quirky personality. a joy! - everything was exactly as described and shown in the pictures, a lovely quiet location with a big garden for the kids and dogs. A visually bright and vibrant quirky cottage, very warm and cozy! good entertainment on site too! (kids are now very into monty python!) very little to complain about only disappointed there wasn't better boots/coats/wet weather gear storage as we were scared to mark the property up as there was no utility/hall/boot room or even outside wellie box, so we found we tended to try to hang coats on the back of kitchen chairs and kept wellies in the car (which in both cases wasn't ideal) ... so we wondered how ski people manage? but really if that was our only problem we felt blessed.
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional - The whole place was beautiful, great for peace and quiet. Great for the dog's. Just a little criticism could do with a king-size quilt on the double bed .
- Mclaughlan (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent facilities, lovely location. Would highly recommend. Nothing
- Agnieszka (9/5): Enchanting Scottish Retreat - The location is brilliant. It’s right next to the Highlands Wildlife Park and close to many beautiful trails. But it still gives you a sense of being in the middle of nowhere which I personally loved. I loved the quiet and tranquil atmosphere of this place.
The cottage was part of a hospital for tuberculosis patients and is a listed building so it’s of quite interesting layout. It has a huge garden area which must be fantastic in summer. It’s generally a lovely place. We stayed in December and although the owners replaced the windows and the kitchen is also new which is great, the front door is just draughty so it gets cold in the kitchen on cold winter days. I have to say we like it really warm at home so if you are used to cooler temperatures it won’t be a problem.
The property was generally clean but the cleaner should pay attention to clean thoroughly after guests with pets as there was dogs hair on the sofa and pillows and as I am allergic to some dogs it triggered a reaction. We had to hoover a sofa on our first evening.
- Shaunna (10/5): Amazing stay for a family. - What's not to like about Shetland cottages. Great accommodation, fantastic location and scenery. Lots of things to do within the area or a short drive away. We stayed with our toddler and all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would highly recommend it to everyone. Nothing
- Kerstin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chloe (10/5): Beautiful stay - A really beautiful little cottage, with everything you could need. The owner, Dermod is really friendly and helpful and was very considerate of the needs of our anxious rescue dog during our stay. In a great location for exploring the beautiful Highlands. Amazing private garden backing onto the wildlife park, but a very quiet location. The bedrooms have stunning views of the garden and really comfortable beds. We loved it so much we booked another trip before we left! Couldn't find a fault with any of it!
- Kevin (9/5): Superb -
- Carolyn (9/5): Superb -
- Angela (8/5): Very good -
- Grant (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katie (9/5): Peaceful, relaxing and cosy. - A wonderful cottage, spacious private garden, great location, light and airy, well equipped - kitchen, books, DVDs, games. New kitchen was great. The weather was clear blue skies and 20 degrees everyday so can't really comment on the new heaters however they seemed very smart. Well organised and informed arrival/departure info. Highly recommend and would happily book again if we were to stay in the area. Thank you for a beautiful stay! Can't fault anything.
- Dawn (10/5): Cherry on the cake - Scotland is amazing and this was the cherry on top. Plus the best dog friendly place we have ever stayed in. I'm not sure if I could find the right words to tell you how much we enjoyed our stay in Shetland Cottage.
Perfect location amazing wildlife, quiet, tranquil and with a big enclosed garden. Inside was spotless, warm, comfortable and cosy. Fully equipped kitchen, the living room had a lovely big sofa the hosts have put together a folder which gives you information about the cottage and surrounding area. As well as maps, brochures and leaflets about sights, activities and walks. They had also provided WiFi, Dvds, books, games perfect after a day exploring. Plenty of room throughout the cottage. Good size bedrooms with the comfiest beds. The cottage has views out to the private garden. (Nice to see the house martins flying around). Fresh White bedding and towels. Beautiful decorated with the added bonus of the phenomenal paintings done by the owner displayed in every room. Adding to the homely feel.
Very hospitable services. Dermod is pleasent, courteous, professional, helpful and informative. He replys quickly to any inquiries and provides you with information before your arrival.
Wished we stayed longer than the 7 days definitely a must. We will be returning & highly recommend to everyone considering this lovely cottage That we didn't stay longer
- Rose (10/5): Lovely little cottage. -
- Ruth (10/5): Exceptional - Enjoyed our stay at Shetland cottage. Highly recommend
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (10/5): Lovely cottage. Good location for the mountains of the Cairngorms -
- Bianca (10/5): Wonderful little cottage in a beautiful area of Scotland - Very nice cottage with everything you need during your vacation. The location is quiet and lovely, but you need a car or a bus ticket if you want to go shopping or eating out. The bus stop is just a few minutes' walk away. It was a little cold in June, so we had to use the heating regularly. There are tons of books, DVDs and games for your enjoyment, as well as many leaflets and brochures about walks and sights in the area. We had a wonderful time in this beautiful spot and would love to come back some day. There's nothing to complain about - except maybe the weather, but that's Scotland. ;-)
- Marie (10/5): Amazing cottage and excellent service - So nice to have dvd for several nights. Like you have a movie 🎥 at home.
Great books too.
Kitchen has great Equipements and you can even find glasses of all sorts (wine,champagne...!)

Low pressure on the shower, i have long hair!
- Peter (10/5): Lovely peaceful stay - Very easy, the key was in a key box by the door and the code was emailed to me Nothing really apart from the washing machine.
