Guest Reviews
- Alana (10/5): Perfect location - The location was perfect. The rooms were clean. The air conditioner worked perfectly. The beds were comfortable. The breakfast that was included had great choices. I would definitely come here again.
- Christopher (10/5): - Great value. Excellent location on the beach and excellent complimentary breakfast.
- mary (4/5): - Was very noisy and dirty place.
- Vivianne Diane (8/5): - Loved the area the ppl. Nice room. Good AC..great and friendly service ..I missed not having comfirtable loungers by the ocean to have a nap on in the hot afternoons. Also missed hot water in the shower it was luke warm. But the price was low so im not complaining. Great restaurant right on the beach with reasonably priced food 馃憣
- David (6/5): - Great location for beach view, would find another place to stay next time, price was pretty cheap
- Kimberly (2/5): - We were not expecting the Ritz Carlton, but this hotel fell very short of expectations. At check-in, they said it was not pre-paid and tried to charge us again. Had to show the Expedia paperwork and the credit card transaction. There was only a sheet on the bed; no blanket or spread. There were two small bath towels - no washcloth, hand towel or bath mat. And the worst part was that we woke up with several bug bites. Horrible.
- Robert (8/5): - The restaurant was very convenient
. The food was good and the service was excellent
- Jon (10/5): - great location if you like the beach and access to the town
- Kathy (8/5): - Close to beach and good for people watching. Walkable to several restaurants and shops. Hotel restaurant is great.
- Sarah (10/5): - If staying in Playa del Coco, I highly recommend Hotel Claudio & Gloria. They are the only beachfront hotel. While they have a wonderful restaurant and bar area overlooking the beach that is fully accessible to hotel guests, the hotel itself has a very small number of rooms, leading to incredible personal service and a bit of a haven away from the busy beach areas. You will likely meet the owners during your stay. The hotel and restaurant staff are amazing.
- Jim (2/5): - I paid for a week and never used it once. You need to update your cancellation policy.
- Elizabeth (10/5): El viaje m谩s lindo - Excelente la atenci贸n. Un lugar muy c贸modo y accesible para las personas como yo con discapacidad. La limpieza muy buena, un personal altamente calificado y muy amable. Mi pr贸ximo viaje espero poder ir a ese Hotel. Gracias
- Vannapha (8/5): - Nice to be on the beach. The room and beds were clean and comfortable. The washroom needs update and ceiling had some water damage. We read about the mosquitoes so we brought some plug in insect repellent. Not too shabby for a last minute booking.
- oscar (4/5): - I felt that the place was somwhat unfrienly, limited wi-fi,very little water came out of the shower - no hot water - the room did not have a single table for you to sit and eat something or just sit.there was construcion and I felt they could hace done a bether job on keeping the noice down - specially in the mornings - the place simply did not do it for me.
- William Joseph (8/5): - The location, right next to the ocean, was delightful. Although the staff was friendly, we observed that the complimentary breakfast included slightly smaller glasses of juice and coffee for us, prompting us to request additional drinks each time. The hotel's surroundings were pleasant and easily walkable. We also took a boat tour of the area, which is highly recommended and well worth the time if you have the opportunity.
- Tiffany (2/5): - There was non-stop construction starting at approximately 5am every morning. The windows didn't close and the one curtain was not private at all. The door lock was not secure and last night we stayed we slept with a chair jammed in front of the door because of a scary situation we encountered earlier in the day. To top it all off the water quit working mid shower and when we asked the staff at the restaurant they said it would take at least 20 minutes to come back on (which turned out to be closer to 45 minutes). They said we could buy water so I could finish rinsing off in the shower. Later that evening my friend was electrocuted while in the shower. It was dangerous because of these issues and combined with a local business man who accosted us in the street and stalked us at a restaurant we left as early as we could the next morning. Unfortunately we had to pay for the following 5 days we had arranged to stay there. It was very unfortunate. We had read the reviews and decided to take a chance because neither my friend or I are really picky but when it comes to being unsafe in a different country, that topped it all off.
- Lashell (6/5): - This is a hard review to write. There are many things I liked about the property, but some drawbacks as well. Drawbacks are all related to the room condition. This property is a composed of about 14 OLD 'cabin' style rooms. The door has a gap of about 1 inch from the bottom of the door to the floor. No door sweep means whatever is outside for bugs are coming in. I just rolled up a towel and put it across this area after being visited by a large beetle. The door security also looked weak. The bathroom is in poor repair. The shower had 1 working handle for water, there was no control for hot/cold and flow took a while to establish. The bathroom had a screened cement block window high on the wall.
I did not see any evidence that upgrades were in progress as per a responce in another review.
All that being said, the staff are friendly and welcoming.
The breakfast included with the room fee was wonderful. Can't get a better location as it is right on the beach. (That means you hear the ocean waves all night and the noise from the bars adjoining the property). I felt the fee of $120 Canadian for the night was high for the condition of the room.... but in hindsight I was paying for location.
I didn't and can't complain, it was a last minute booking and there wasn't much available in my price range. Just understand what you are getting for the money. Cheers
- Luke (4/5): - This is a very basic property. Very basic. Its old, no pictures on the walls, bathroom mirror was abot 8" x 8". Floor tiles are worn out, cracked, etc. Its a box - with 2 beds and ac. We had a lizard in our room. That said, the bed and ac worked and thats all i cared about. Its right on the beach too, and a 30 second walk to town. Sheets were clean, shower worked but no hot water, just tepid.
- David (6/5): - Dont expect much from the room, but restaurant is preety good
- Twilla (10/5): - Being right on the beach, the food, staff, comfortable beds, cleanliness, everything was perfect.
- Andrew (10/5): - Location, location, location. Although this is definitely a rustic place, the location and staff more than make up for any lacking amenities. The room is basic but comfortable, the bathroom was clean and the shower pressure and temperature was better than expected from the looks of it. Laying in bed listening to the music and the sounds of the waves at night made for a very relaxing time. This is definitely a "Chill Out" place. The staff works the attached restaurant where the service and food was fantastic. Not I single bad item on the menu full of local fare that was incredible, but also included some traditional American dishes for the less adventurous.
- Debby (8/5): - We liked the fact that we could walk out our door, and walk right to the beach 馃彇. Also we liked the restaurant/bar being next door.
Weekends appear to be noisy with loud music. Also our last nights stay there was a lot of noise outside our place for a long period of time.
- ricardo (10/5): - Excellent hostesses
- Carlos (10/5): - The service was great, the location was great. The vendors should have a designated area to do their vending.
- Sonia (10/5): - Small hotel but a great location right on the beach.
- Jessica (6/5): - Hotel Claudio y Gloria is small and the staff is friendly. If you're just looking for a place to sleep and grab a bite to eat, this is your place. The room was small and minimally furnished-we had two full beds, a night stand, a wood chair and a small shelf/closet unit. The linens were clean and the towels were replaced daily. There was two bottles of water for us when we checked in. The bed was made for us daily.
The room itself was worn and dated, but functional and budget-friendly. The "toiletries" was wall mounted soap pumps in the shower and at the sink.
If you are a resort vacationer, look elsewhere. The tile flooring was chipped and dingy, making the room appear dirty. There are geckos in the rooms. The hot water in the shower comes from an on-demand water heater showerhead with sketchy wiring. There is no hot water at the sink. The monkeys and birds in the trees along the driveway are LOUD first thing in the morning. The bars and restaurants nearby can get kind of loud in the evenings, but even on Friday and Saturday nights, the noise dimmed around 11pm, which was fine for us. (The 7am marathon on the boardwalk on Sunday morning was a bit obnoxious though!)
The included breakfast is next door at Restaurante Donde Claudio y Gloria. It was good and served fairly quickly, with decent sized portions. I was able to drink the coffee black with sugar, which literally never happens anywhere!
We would stay here again, but we're very low maintenance travelers.
- MICHELE (8/5): - Very nice place to stay but no tv. It is advertised has having one.
- frank (6/5): - Close to beach and AC was ice cold.
- David (8/5): - Great location, very basic room. Right on beach where Dive boats unload. Nice restaurant and good free breakfast. Very bright in room due to thin curtain. No hot water for shower.
- Lauren (8/5): Beach visit - It was a cute place on the beach with nice people. However was missing some things like hot water in the shower. A/C worked great though!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - H么tel tr猫s vieillot et malpropre. A ne pas recommander.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excelente lugar
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This property was awful! Next to a dump , loud music playing ALL night long, the shower did not work and the sink almost fell over. It was an absolute dump !!
- Jan Peter (6/5): - L盲get p氓 Cocobeach var fantastiskt dock var rummen ganska ofr盲scha d氓liga duschar. S盲ngarna var helt ok och personalen var hj盲lpsamma. I anslutning till hotellet finns en liten restaurang som var ok.
- Sam (6/5): - Great location, right on the beach. Hotel is very low class and next ro the bar/restaurant. Music playing till late at night. Restaurant food is very good. Excellent staff.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not as nice as the pictures - The room is in much worse condition then the pictures lead you to believe. See attached pictures
- Jennifer (10/5): New owners! - Location! Location! Location! Wonderful hotel - walking distance to every bar/restaurant on the beach! Best place to stay & in Playa El Coco. New owner is very friendly. Restaurant food was tasty :)
- Loretta (2/5): - I do not recommend it. They won鈥檛 negotiate with you and you will not get your money back even if you are unhappy with the room conditions. Make sure you don鈥檛 give your credit card number to them, unless you are sure you want to rent this property. The room I stayed in was full of bugs, the AC wasn鈥檛 working. The bathroom windows are open and you can hear people talking loudly. The beds are uncomfortable. The lighting is poor etc. Apparently the room is for the people working in there. Overall, the rooms are mediocre. The food at the restaurant next door, are mediocre and overpriced. Some of the staff are unprofessional.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was near the beach, supermarket, pharmacy ,restaurant .
I like it very much , It was the first time in Costa Rica, and iI love it
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This is an extremely run down place. Zero room comfort, full of bugs, bathroom doesn鈥檛 even have mirrors, chirped walls, broken doors, had to request a refund and changed to a different hotel
