Guest Reviews
- Thomas (9/5): Lovely location, great staff - The staff are very courteous and helpful. Special mention for Hilda on reception and for Grace's hosting. Breakfast is fine, but lacking range. The Wi Fi was a bit unreliable, too.
- Arnaud Le Forestier (7/5): - I had a truly excellent stay at Villa Kololo in Kampala. I had been told this charming boutique hotel was peaceful and relaxing, and it absolutely lived up to its reputation.
The service was impeccable throughout my stay, and the restaurant offered a varied and high-quality menu. The wine cellar is remarkable, and the sommeliers are true connoisseurs, passionate and very knowledgeable. The lounge area is beautifully designed and comfortable, surrounded by lush tropical vegetation that gives the property a unique and elegant atmosphere. There are only two points that, in my opinion, could be improved. First, the artificial plastic lemons used in the decoration feel completely out of place and unfortunately detract from the otherwise refined ambiance of the hotel.
Secondly, the music from the lounge area in the evening is much too loud and makes it difficult to sleep between 10:00 PM and midnight. Reducing the volume during these hours would significantly improve the guest experience.

- Annelies (9/5): Great place with lovely staff - The restaurant is very cozy and the breakfast really good 😊 Nothing

- MICHAIL (8/5): Cute stay at a very central location - Very cute little hotel, we got a cute room with well equipped bathroom. Staff was friendly (except one person that I am elaborating later) and very, very nice to us at all times. Breakfast was delicious and they even gave us a nice breakfast box for the day we left early. Location was central and area felt safe. The only thing that we didn't enjoy was the attitude of the lady behind the desk during the check in but also during dinner and the day after. She looked annoyed and did not even share any information when we arrived. When asked questions she gave single-worded responses and would not look at us. Big dissapointment because every other person at the facilities were more than nice and kind.
- Theodore Caravellas (10/5): Would come back again - Clean room and excellent dinner Poor breakfast
- R Beverlin (7/5): ask for the furthest room away and expect a tranquil environment with a great cappuccino - Nice location and great pizza. The staff was super friendly and accommodating always greeting you with a smile I didn't research enough. The events and bar upstairs ofter went late into the evening with loud music and partying. The kitchen staff started very early with no regard for sleepers. Shouting and banging
- Theodoros (10/5): As advertised, very clean and great restaurant -
- Samer (8/5): -
- klaus (6/5): - More a good restaurant as a Hotel , very noisy until 12pm
- Dragan (8/5): -
- klaus (6/5): - Location and the staff It is more an good Restaurant as an Hotel , surrounded with other Restaurants and Bars in other yards , so you have all kind of Music until 12pm and inside the hotel
The restaurant is at daytime overstaffed , normally nothing to blame , but it is hard to find a quiet moment with 7 waiters around you
- Velasco (8/5): Loved the location - Kololo is a great location when visiting Kampala and Villa Kololo was very accessible to everything Kampala has to offer. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Rooms nicely decorated and clean. The outdoor garden and Italian restaurant were a bonus - felt at times I was somewhere in Italy. It's also in walking distance to restaurants and shops and I'd definitely stay here again.

- Gontse (8/5): Loved the vintage vibe and being close to the mall. Breakfast was great- fresh fruit salad daily, and the staff (houseke - Vintage vibes in the rooms and breakfast I didn’t realize the airport shuttle/pick up service is not complimentary. It’s USD 50.00 each way. It wasn’t indicated on Booking.com. This should be made clearer for future guests.

- Stephen (4/5): there was over 100 guest having a loud party until midnight on a week night. NEVER should book again - we love the restaurant for dinner~ The room was so extra crowded with furniture it was impossible to move around the bed. The bathroom smelled VERY bad- exactly like cat piss. the bathroom ceiling looked like a murder scene it was SO dirty! There was over 100 guests with loud music, speakers and fireworks until midnight! We got a letter after we booked and paid for the room! We would have NEVER booked if we know our car was going to remain in an insecure location until 7:00 AM! All the way around not a good stay! Villa Kalolo needs to decide if they are an events place or a boutique hotel with semi high prices. NOT only was the sleeping horrible, not the new champaign bar was just outside our room and the made was loudly cleaning the toilet at 7:00 AM!!!!! not ok. the staff closet is also outside our door as well, this not a hotel! we stayed in room 119.
This is not the first time it was loud at night ok kitchen staff is standing outside your back windows talking loudly early in the MORNINGS ! We wont come back nor recommend you anymore

- william (8/5): very good place, centrally located small but chick - rooms are clean, beds are large and comfortable, bathroom is very clean. the place is vibe and lively throughout breakfast should be better, include some local breakfast options
- Ofelia (9/5): -
- silvia (5/5): - The restaurant was good for lunch and dinner. But the breakfast was not the same quality. Our room was opposite of the restaurant bathrooms. More than one time people try to open our door thinking that it was the bathroom. The bathroom needs maintenance.
- Stephen (10/5): - Our go to place in Kampala.
- Vanessa (3/5): Poor - The staff were professional and friendly. The room and bathroom have so much humidity. The air is not good at all. The is a funny smell.
- Linda (8/5): - Property is smaller than l thought it would be. The room definitely has some colonial character, but was smaller than expected. The restaurant was nice, but pricey though.
- Viola (10/5): -
- Willing & Able Traveller (8/5): - Location was very convenient, staff were kind and friendly and very polite. The restaurant had a great atmosphere and quality of food was excellent with good range of choices. Rooms were cleaned everyday, towels thick and lush, bidet in bathroom, large and comfortable beds with plenty of pillows and mosquito nets. Everything was good and would have given it a higher rating until the last night when one of my colleagues had someone enter her room early hours of the morning (which was locked from the inside). Concerning that someone else had a key. She yelled at them and they left. Reported to manager who checked security camera but said it was not working (!)
- Angela (6/5): Oranges and Lemons - We have stayed at Villa Kololo many times yet recently, the vibe has changed. It used to be a beautiful garden setting - very natural and authentic Italian style restaurant, and well maintained.
Now, there are plastic oranges and lemons everywhere, fake flowers, and the real garden is overgrown and not maintained well.
We feel the standard is slipping away, which is very sad. It used to be my favourite place to stay in Kampala.
The breakfast service was disappointing - servers not very friendly, food very slow and average.
Beds are still very comfortable though.
If you like plastic oranges and lemons - you’ll love it!!
- mgarba (9/5): Ottima struttura a Kampala - Camera confortevole, pulita, letto comodo.
- Gloire (9/5): Superb -
- William (8/5): Perfect place for my stay in kamapala - The cleanliness the beds are big and comfy the WiFi works perfect the neighbourhood is lively and safe and the restaurant is excellent and lively The breakfast is a bit basic
- David (10/5): - Spacious and a very lovely room with a big bathroom. Charming interior design with a colonial vibe. The hotel is right next to a very good Italian restaurant. The only thing missing is a garden.
- Panagiotis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julius (10/5): Exceptional - The room, convenient,Restorant it’s the best.
- Mike (9/5): I will stay here again. - Food service was occasionally slow, but the quality was excellent.
- Nora (8/5): Very good -
- Joohyun (4/5): Disappointing Hotel Experience - I stayed for one night and had to check out at 6:00 AM. I asked the front desk staff if breakfast could be packed to go. She assured me that the meals would be prepared after the restaurant closed that evening. Upon entering the room, I found it smaller than expected. There was no door knob for the room or the restroom, which was quite unusual. Additionally, there was no place to put the soap except on the floor, which was inconvenient. The room's furniture was outdated. The hotel has a restaurant called Mediterraneo. I ordered pasta, but it was disappointing in flavor. The price was disproportionate to the quality. At checkout, I asked the front desk staff if the meals were ready. After checking the refrigerator, he informed me that no meals were prepared. I was deeply disappointed and left the hotel hungry. I left a message for the hotel through the app but received no response after a week. I don’t recommend this hotel and would not return.
- Kahaso (8/5): Very good - Great little facility and very close to town.
- Olive (8/5): Very good - Gorgeous room with a comfortable bed. The food, especially the breakfasts, was exceptional.
- Ingemar (10/5): Quiet luxury - Quiet luxury in a curated environment
- Moses (8/5): Very good -
- Jenny (8/5): A nice guesthouse in Kampala - A comfortable room. The food in the restaurant was excellent. The room was quite dark. The breakfast offering could be better.
- Federica (6/5): Pleasant -
- Verified traveler (8/5): Ihan kiva - Kivalla sijainnilla oleva pieni hotelli. Palvelu aika olematonta. Huoneessa kaikki tarpeellinen ja siisti. Huoneella oma terassi, kiva lisä. Sänky aika kova. Aamupala viereisessä Mediterriano ravintolassa, ihan ok kokonaisuus.
- Chereen (8/5): Very good - The room was stunning, clean and spacious! Our room was right by the kitchen so it was very noisy at night when we were trying to sleep.
- Teun (9/5): One of my favorite places in Kampala. Nice rooms, good location, friendly staff. - Comfortable rooms, great breakfast and friendly staff. Suboptimal shower. You need to be lucky with the room in terms of noise, restaurant stays loud over weekends and sometimes there is loud music next door.
- Callum (6/5): Pleasant - Very spacious room, walk-in wardrobe and bathroom. Private external seating area. Restaurant staff were pleasant and they served decent food. Hotel reception area / communal facilities (besides the adjoining restaurant) didn't seem in use. Room wasn't particularly sound proofed - quite noisy at night. A room attached to a restaurant rather than a hotel.
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bernd (9/5): perfectly comfy for a short stay - location is fabulous, attached restaurant is very good, and so is breakfast. rooms are small, fine for a short stay
- Van (9/5): Great stay - Really enjoyed staying here. Room was more than adequate and people super friendly and helpful. Even preparing a 5am breakfast to take along in the car.
The restaurant is first class as well
- Irenosen (8/5): Very good -
- Carol (8/5): My stay was delightful, lovely food, great place to meet people. Uganda overall was lovely - Sadick helpfulness to sort out my connectivity issue due to different plugs Slipped in the bathroom due to all the water from shower and there's no non-slip mats
- Kathryn (9/5): Superb - Lovely hotel for a couple of nights in Kampala. The staff were very helpful in organising a driver for us to do some sightseeing. The restaurant was delicious as well.
- Berenice (9/5): Superb -
- Gisela (7/5): Good - I loved the staff, the breakfast and the location It was under construction so quite uncomfortable and noisy (nobody told us in advance)
- Okafor (9/5): Superb -
- Norah (9/5): Great -
- Udo-davis (9/5): Superb - i had a nice time at the hotel,
- Ameer (7/5): Good -
- Elspeth (8/5): Good, central location in Kampala. Friendly, helpful staff. Good food. - Very good breakfast (greatly improved from the last visit, to be honest ). Friendly staff, good location for a working visit to Kampala. Safe parking. Comfortable and spacious room. Very good room service. Secluded shady terrace. Good option to have the evening meal at Mediterraneo on site. A bit noisy at night, but it was a Friday night ....
- Olivia (8/5): Very nice, lovely rooms, good location and friendly staff - Very nice rooms, friendly and helpful staff, airport pick-up and drop-off was well organised and relatively good value. Wifi didn't work well in the restaurant area
- Michel (9/5): Superb - Amazing staff, lovely room, great restaurant Bathroom maintenance: sink drain was quite blocked, and soap holder in shower was missing
- Michel (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely room, excellent staff, very nice restaurant
- Tania (9/5): Superb - An adorable boutique hotel with lovely rooms. Decor is beautiful. Lots of antique pieces to be seen around the hotel. Staff are very friendly and tend to your every need immediately. There is a vibrant restaurant within the hotel premises which is great for dinner and socializing. Rooms need some electrical maintenance. Few sockets did not work. We managed but it might affect others.
- Gisselle (8/5): - The hotel was nice but the owner’s attention was on point the BEST attention to all guests staying and also dining at the restaurant!
I would recommend this hotel if your staying in uganda.
- Ibrahim254256 (9/5): Superb - Spacious and clean room. And the accommodation is within the famous Mediterrano restaurant No view... The room window faces some kind of kitchen store
- Gisselle (8/5): - Good
- La (3/5): Poor -
- Ken (7/5): Good - Restaurant
Staff No garden
- Duncan (9/5): Excellent service, amazing rooms and great people. - The bar is amazing and the reception staff go an extra mile to offer the best customer experience specifically Sadiq. Nothing
- Gogo (10/5): Amazing stay amazing food - Everything was amazing
- Al (6/5): Pleasant -
- Karina (9/5): Cosy, comfortable rooms set in a delightful garden. - The Villa Kololo is located in a beautiful small garden with a fantastic restaurant attached to it. It has a warm, welcoming style. Rooms are spacious though a bit dark. There is lots of wood, lovely furnishings, and the decor is charming. The staff at reception, housekeeping and the restaurant are kind and attentive. The breakfast is excellent. It's a very good base if working in central Kampala. It is a bit pricey; I think prices could be adjusted for single travellers. Also, I think the policies around eco-tourism could be better implemented e.g. towels/linen do not need to be changed every day.
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brenda (1/5): Bad -
- France (7/5): Good - Great location in a green garden
Good breakfast and restaurant Lighting in the room
Late noisy guests in the bar close to bedroom made it difficult to sleep but this might be a one-time issue
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yosef (7/5): Good -
- Tennakoon (8/5): Good stay - Location Lighting in the room, service at breakfast was a bit slow but the breakfast was nice.
- Lokiror (8/5): Very good -
- Malene (10/5): Green and lively oasis - The atmosphere was outstanding especially in relation to their restaurante Mediterraneo which was warm, lively with a mix of different people enjoying themselves. Villa Kololo is a green oasis set in a villa shaded by old trees - a welcome contrast to the urban concrete jungle of Kampala.
- Norman (9/5): Very good to excellent stay. - The late night airport pick up was very helpful. Property was very nice.
- Kim (9/5): Superb -
- Biar (7/5): Its ok - Layout and area Room was not cleam
- Baltzer (8/5): Very good -
- Elisa (8/5): Very good - Very nicely decorated and clean rooms! Excellent restaurant. Will come back! Might be a bit noisy near the reception
- Paula (10/5): Beautiful small oasis in the middle of the city. -
