Guest Reviews
- Nicholas (10/5): Nice end of week break. - Lovely room in a country hotel with views of Pendle hill and a nice restaurant.
- Linsay (8/5): Wedding nearby - Lovely location, fantastic breakfast and lovely staff
- Kevin (10/5): Excellent - Excellent views and breakfast
- Fred (4/5): Abysmal - On arrival the receptionist on duty was extremely helpfull
and informative. Our bedroom in the in the annexe was acceptable although the bathroom facilities had problems which we reported.
We had invited friends to join us for Dinner that evening alas the food was abysmal, two of uscordered cheese and onion pie and requested no vegetables or baked beans to accompany the said dish, the cheese and onion pie lacked cheese and flavour and.mushy, the chips accompanying the pie pale and insipid alas the scamoi and chips the samev.
We certainly would not recommend dining at aThe Calf's Head .
- Ryan (10/5): - Loved the room, the views, the staff, the food and prices. So much I’ve booked in again for when I work in the area. Highly recommended
- Teneille (8/5): - .
- George (10/5): All round good value - Lovely pub B&B. Good vibe, really good food, both in the evening and breakfast. Rooms nice and service was good. Really nice gardens for summer drinks outside and kids.
- John (10/5): - I have literally done hundreds of reviews over 15 years with Expedia and this hotel is absolutely a top 3 contender. This is the BEST English country Hotel I have stayed at. The premises, staff and meals are superb. Do NOT bypass this hotel and I would even plan a trip to purposely include a visit. Loved every moment of our stay.
- DAVID (6/5): - Friendly, good service and clean, no issues with accommodation
- James (6/5): - Staff members very pleasant , food brilliant but expensive,Room 4, quite dark due to a very small window,View, overlooking the kitchen roof, boiler (I presume) gas vent outlet. Room obviously ex bedroom cut down to accommodate a bathroom. A 3 night stay was adequate.
- Robert (10/5): - Didn't know was more restaurant than pub, but hey ho! Good breakfast, excellent bed, first rate staff.
- Mark (10/5): - A lovely location, friendly staff and clean and spacious room
- Ian (10/5): Very welcoming. - Lovely stay.
Beautiful sunny afternoon on arrival, stunning views.
Accommodation was very good
Evening meal, great home cooked food.
Over all, I was glad to return for a night at the Calfs Head.
- Liz (10/5): Excellent hotel - We arrived early 12noon our rooms were ready nice and clean. Staff were really friendly. Bed was very comfortable best night sleep in a hotel for a while.Breakfast was excellent fresh fruit salad, yogurt, full English breakfast and toast were all excellent did I say the staff were Brilliant
- Ian (10/5): A pleasure. - Always a warm welcome, lovely clean quiet room.
Great menu
Excellent breakfast
- Victoria (6/5): - This was just ok. It's an old pub, so parking was hard, my room was cold and water pressure low. Staff were nice and it was quaint. Ok for one night
- Ian (10/5): Lovely place - Lovely stay in a delightful pub/hotel
- Salma (10/5): - The property was in the most beautiful setting. It was a detached building housing 2 downstairs bedrooms. It was spotless and the staff were so lovely. It was warm and very welcoming.
We included the breakfast and it was delicious
- Mel (10/5): - Very helpful staff great location for us
Good food
- Janinne (10/5): Hidden gem - Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting. Stayed in the deluxe king room with a large jacuzzi bath. All staff were friendly and helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. The food was lovely and they catered gluten free for me. Service in the bar and restaurant was 1st class. We have booked to stay again.
- Cath (10/5): - This place is amazing! The staff were lovely, friendly and accommodating. The room was incredible as was the food. The breakfast was piping hot and I strongly recommend the full English however, there was other beautiful options for breakfast too. I cannot wait to return. Thank you for an incredible stay and experience
- Janet (8/5): - Yes ok
Clearly dated pub surrounding gardens nice
Overall property seems neglected
Has to be the smallest room we have every stayed in
Bed pushed against the wall so not easy to get in and out — should be a single room
Disappointing
- Jamie (10/5): - Perfect stay for one night. Great little spot for food in the evening, especially if the sun is out! Breakfast was also great with hot and cold options. Would need to drive to nearby places as it’s a little bit out from Clitheroe and there’s not too much immediately around - apart from walks etc.
- Sarah (8/5): - Picturesque location with lots of food options and local walks. Plenty to do in local area.
- Gillian (10/5): A lovely place to stay - We arrived just before they stop serving food due to a horrendous journey, were checked in quickly, the lady carried my bag up for me and we were assured we would be able to order food. We did and it was very nice.
Both days breakfasts were good and served by a very friendly and cheerful lady.
The only negative was we had called a taxi and asked the bar guys if the taxis take cards ( all ours do), they said no, I asked if I could get cash using my card there but the manager said no. The taxi charged us an extra £5 to take us to a cash machine.
We enjoyed our stay and would return if we are ever up that way again.
- Anthony (10/5): - Old traditional hotel was pleasant and clean.
- Simon (10/5): - Staff very welcoming, breakfast was served by a wonderful person and from the first morning to the last she remembered my order…. Defo stay again
Bar staff great, especially the fellow from Burnley 😀🍺
- Katie (8/5): - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Calf’s Head, Clitheroe. We attended a wedding at a venue not far from here, so it was a great location for us. All the staff were helpful and friendly and the downstairs bar/dining was an asset to our stay. We both enjoyed a lovely full English the morning after with the option of fruit, cereals and yoghurts. The outdoor space here is gorgeous so would definitely recommend going here to enjoy it on a nice day.
The only criticism I can give is that the ceiling in our room needed attention. It appeared to have damp or potential old leak stains, which could do with being cared for.
Overall we had a really enjoyable stay and would definitely visit again.
- Kam (10/5): - Very friendly hotel stay
- Phillip (10/5): - Had an enjoyable 2 day stay. Good food and staff at the hotel. Didn't realize I had dropped my phone in the room when leaving which PJ helped to return to me. Thanks
- Linda (10/5): Well worth staying here - Good atmosphere comfortable bed lovely hotel and grounds. Great food
Would definitely stay here again
- Noel (10/5): - Really nice hotel to stay in. The staff and service were excellent.
- nicola (10/5): Great overnight stay - Very clean, lovely staff, food was excellent and all in a beautiful location.
- Carole (8/5): - Very clean. Ideal for overnight stay that we needed.
- Ryan (10/5): - Friendly hotel great staff. Perfect for my trip
- Mike (8/5): One night stop. - We had a very spacious room with great view. Hotel was clean and comfortable and the food very good. No complaints and would stay again.
- Margaret (10/5): - Amazing place to stay. We had a big family wedding nearby - great breakfast and dinner. Staff were very friendly. Would definitely recommend.
- Stephen (8/5): - Great VFM for exploring the Pendle/Clitheroe area.
Terrific charming gastro pub/hotel, a real throwback!
Friendly service, terrific cuisine!
- David (8/5): - Very pleasant Hotel in a lovely setting. The breakfast was excellent and the room was comfortable and spacious.
Would defnitely stay at the Calf Head's Hotel again.
- Owen (8/5): - Enjoyed the stay and well worth the price we paid. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
- Brian (10/5): - Great littke hotel
Brilliant service as i arrived later after the kitchen had clossed but still ressulled me some food up
- mark (6/5): - The hotel is in a great location and the food and breakfast is very nice. The room we stayed in on this ocasion (room 9) is tiny, more of a single room rather than a double. The mattress is well over due replacement, split with the springs bulging. The bathroom obviously has a drainage issue with the smell. Must say on previous visits in different rooms we have had no issues and we would go back, just not to room 9.
- Philip (10/5): Worston, Pendle Hill - Excellent accommodation, fantastic food and lots of it. Staff attentive and engaging. Beautiful location with views of Pendle hill, peaceful as not close to main roads.
- terence (10/5): - Great stay,nice pleasant staff,great food,good walks straight from the door
- Deborah (6/5): - Overnight stay. The bed was comfortable but the room was rather gloomy and definitely in need of renovation. One of the bedside lights did not work (even when I tried moving the lightbulb from the other side).
The location of the hotel is lovely, though.
- Lucy (10/5): Excellent stay with toddler - The food in the restaurant is amazing. The service is lovely. Very family friendly. We will return
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good Service from Staff and good breakfast. Room stayed in was very small and not really double.
- Christopher (10/5): 10/10 - Absolutely brilliant staff. Very much going out of their way to make the stay as perfect as possible, which in my case, was. Location was perfect for working in Clitheroe and Blackburn. Hidden away in a small village away from chain hotels etc. Homely feel to the place. Strong WiFi for work purposes. Food was also excellent.
- liz (10/5): - Never stayed over night before but dined many times
- Mr David Martin (10/5): Short break to explore the locality - Very good positioned hotel, with friendly staff & very good food & drink - good range of options & everything we had was well presented & well cooked.
- Joanna (8/5): - A very friendly place and obviously popular with the locals. Food pretty good - large portions and huge desserts! - although not fancy, vegetables not always great. Our room was over the kitchen and a bit hot but quiet.
- mark (8/5): - Great food and lovely location, only negative beds need updating. Otherwise tip top thanks.
- David (8/5): - The hotel is in a lovely location with ample parking. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The rooms are tired now and in need of updating. Our room (1) has old single glazed windows which were draughty. No electrical sockets near the bed. The spa bath was a nice surprise. The shower was hot and really powerful. The bathroom had no fan, which seemed strange. The secondary glazing would not stay open to vent the room. The large bed was comfortable. Breakfast was really good, but not a huge choice available. The evening meals were great with good, even large, portions.
- Christopher (10/5): Perfect - Overall - perfect.
- Martin (10/5): Very good! - Comfortable room with a suitable desk, helpful and capable staff, very good restaurant food & ales.
- Graham (10/5): - great place
- Rob (10/5): Liked it so much i stayed an extra day - Found this gem and rather than stay somewhere else as i planned for the next day i ended up extending the stay here.
Great food - great welcome and all staff actually made it clear they enjoyed being there.
Big warm fire to sit next to in the snug and lots of room for dining. Great garden for when i go back in the summer.
Give it a try - its got a good reputation but often places i visit don't live up to it. This was found by chance and it was brilliant.
Apparently they have a friendly resident ghost too :)
- Rob (10/5): Great find - highly recommended - Great place to base yourself if you are exploring the area
Great food and brilliant staff.
Much cheaper than i could have got a Premier Lodge or Travel Inn and much better value.
- Nina (10/5): Great countryside hotel with friendly staff - Very friendly staff, good heating in the rooms, very quiet, excellent breakfast, beautiful conservatory for breakfast
- Martin (10/5): - Brilliant wee place to stay
- Simon (4/5): Average at best. - Room was very tired and worn. Loud noises throughout the night with the hotels mechanical and electrical equipment starting up. Room very small, approx 1ft around the bed.
Better value to be had in the local area.
- Kevin (10/5): - The Hotel was Good. Very efficient, friendly staff. Room was very comfortable and the food excellent.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We booked in for one night on a cycling trip. The rooms were in need of a bit of TLC but the staff were fantastic from check in to check out....a very friendly local hotel
- Robin (8/5): Hammered - Overall my stay at the Calf's Head was very pleasant. Every single member of staff I met was helpful and accommodating. The food was extremely tasty and very filling and the room was fine, if a little overdue for a makeover. The stay was however marred by the plumbing. Every time anyone used the sink or shower there was a loud banging noise (I think it's technically called water hammer). In addition there was a continual stream of overflow water right outside my bedroom window. Fortunately I'm a sound sleeper so neither problem was a major worry for me but it could be for a light sleeper. I will be back again but I hope the plumbing will get fixed.
