Guest Reviews
- sharon fraser (6/5): If only the house was maintained as well as the garden - Beautiful location, spacious accommodation and well maintained garden. If only the house was maintained as well as the garden!
The broken blinds.
The broken window spoiling the view
The broken taps
The lack of tea towels
The smell from drains
The smell in the lift
The time thats elapsed in not fixing these problems.
Nearly all the outside bins, were full whilst we were there, put the bins outside on Wednesday for Thursday emptying as advised in the welcome pack but not all were emptied...do they need to go to the bottom of the hill?
No TV in ground floor bedroom as promised.
Broken fridge
The interior of cupboards in kitchen not cleaned
The price of the accommodation is too much when the property has not been maintained.
- sharon fraser (9/5): -
- Moira (6/5): Location perfect..property could do with some TLC - The view and location Stayed 3 yrs ago property now looking a little tired.Side gate did not work. Middle bifold doors not working. Kitchen Sink tap faulty … tap loose. Window Blinds in bedroom 1 could not go down.
- Sharon (8/5): Like marmite we love it but don't when things don't work - Loved the sea and estuary views.
The place is beautifully designed.
The beds are comfy.
The bathrooms are brilliant.
The open plan is perfect.
The laundry area is very useful.
What it needs is someone to give it some TLC! Or at least some attention. There are always niggles/something doesn't work when we stay, but, if you want the view and are prepared to pay the price then it appears you have put up with them!
...Firstly the issues that do need attention ASAP you cannot get through to anyone and have to leave constant messages.
...There is a broken patio door glass so it is boarded on the ground floor which has been like that since last year.
...There is always a smell in the lift and this gets worse as week progresses.
...The patio doors don't all open.
....There are not enough glasses/knives/egg cups(i bought some!) for six people.
...There aren't proper outdoor seat cushions!
...There's no teapot.
...The frying pan has seen better days.
...Only one tea towel.
...The bose system doesn't work.
...The tv no sky and no terrestrial tv unless you want to watch tv in the bedroom
...The garage door fob didn't work.
...The entrance gate kept sticking and locked us out twice.
...No blinds in lounge work.
Please can these issues be addressed for our next visit we will be back!
- Lucy (9/5): Stunning views from a beautiful, very comfortable apartment in a wonderful part of the World. - Large, bright and airy apartment with stunning views from windows. Ideally placed to explore Alnmouth and the surrounding areas. Free parking outside the house. The conservatory with bifold doors overlooking the estuary was a fantastic space (middle apartment). A sheltered space open to the air. The whole apartment was well equipped with modern appliances which were easy to operate. Everything looked quite new. Free Wi-Fi. TVS and SONOS speakers, Furniture was modern and minimalist. Decoration was lovely. Large, comfy leather sofas and compact arm chairs. The apartment was very clean. Bathrooms were huge and beautifully appointed. Tons of hot water and great water pressure. The bathrooms were lovely and warm due to towel radiators. The beds were very low - less physically able struggled to get up. Minimal provision of “consumables” e.g not enough toilet roll, no toiletries apart from small bar of soap, 3 dishwasher tablets, 2 bin liners, basic welcome pack without milk.
- Janet (7/5): Good - The flat was really lovely, and we enjoyed our stay very much, but there were a few maintenance issues that need to be addressed. Great choice of eating places in the area.
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nmsandland (7/5): Beautiful property, needs managing better - The size of the Garden Appartment was very generous. It was a great space for three families to be together over Christmas. The location just opposite the beach was perfect and the centre of the beautiful village of Alnmouth was literally a two minute walk around the corner. We made use of the excellent laundry facilities. There were a few annoying issues. For an apartment designed for six people, there were insufficient glasses and items of crockery. There were only four bowls. I actually went to Sainsbury's and bought two more matching bowls so we could eat! Pans and lids bizarrely did not match and were very much past their best. My daughter also bought a set of four wine glasses and a nonstick pan. Clearly, no one is keeping a check on the inventory. We had to wash up by hand after practically every meal, even though there was a dishwasher, as there were no spare items for the next one. The knives and forks were of poor quality and a general mix match of sets. All the windows have integral blinds, operated electrically from a wall switch. However, several did not function. A black drape was crudely hung up in one bedroom. In addition, a broken window in the sun lounge has also been boarded up for many weeks now (an issue already discussed with Rob). We fixed the automatic kitchen bin by putting batteries in it that were missing! Finally, the issue with the beds. They are extremely low. Unfortunately, my elderly father could not manage to get in and out at all. We resorted to putting two wooden benches under his bed, which was a temporary solution. It was a struggle for me and my husband as well. Anyone visiting will need to bring there own soap for bathrooms, toilet roll (only one provided), dishwasher and laundry tablets, kitchen roll and additional teatowels. This is not a well equipped property. The accommodation may be marketed as high end, but unfortunately, there are inconsistencies.
- Cheryl (10/5): Absolutely loved the apartment, especially the living area and balcony. Walking distance to all bars which serve great f - Absolutely loved the location and the views were outstanding! A few niggles.. the oven/microwave hadn’t been cleaned it was really quite disgusting. The doors to the property were very stiff. Only 3 wine glasses, and some of the crockery needs replaced. Also the towels were tiny, not one full size towel between 3 rooms. Also no hoover or mop which you’d expect in a dog friendly accommodation practically on a beach.
- Philip (10/5): A stunning place to visit - The apartment has fantastic views of the estuary and is perfectly situated for walks on the beach and local amenities
- Victoria (10/5): A beautiful space to unwind and enjoy the beach. - We liked everything about our stay. The middle apartment was fantastic, and the view was amazing. We liked everything!
- Steven (9/5): Great apartment and location. - The apartment was superb. The views were excellent,
Everything worked apart from the electric blinds in the lounge. A 11am check out would be far better as you would feel far less rushed on your last morning.
Expecting people who have paid lots of money to stay there to put the bins out.
- Chapman (8/5): First class holiday in Alnmouth - Loved the spacious rooms and kitchen / living room .
The sun room located at the front had great views and benefits from the sun all day.and is so peaceful.
So quiet at night makes it so easy to enjoy the peace and get a good night's sleep. The low beds made it quite awkward in a morning to get out of bed, however the beds were very comfortable.
Windows were a bit awkward to open .
Couldn't access the secure parking to the rear as it was too tight to manoeuvre into the smallest space ., but the other guests managed ok .
Lots of free parking on the road however which was really safe.and not a problem.
- Lisa (10/5): Fabulous apartment in a fantastic location - exceptionally spacious apartment with luxurious bathrooms and well equipped kitchen. Fantastic views over the estuary, although because we had chosen the ground floor apartment we didn't have as good views as the upper floors. Dog friendly and wonderful for our 18month old granddaughter. washer and dryer was a real asset for a constantly exploring child. Fantastic location in the lovely village of Alnmouth, with access to paths to the beach opposite and all the interest of the birdlife of the estuary close by. Very peaceful and quiet, with very little noise from the apartment above. we chose the garden apartment so that the dog could enjoy some outdoor space, but there was a notice asking us to keep dogs off the lawn which negated that space for us. It also meant we couldn't sit in the conservatory area with the doors open because the dog would then wonder out into the garden, which was a safe enclosed space otherwise. We had a bit of an issue with towels which was sorted for us, but arose because only one of the bathrooms was supplied with large bath towels, whilst the other two had much smaller towels, so we thought here had been an error.
As others have said before, the beds are very low, and it was a bit of struggle to get out of them. The apartments are perfect for people needing disable access but the beds were completely unsuitable for most people who would need disabled access.
- Tom (10/5): Excellent, bar the above - Outstanding design and views from the balcony deck The rubbish disposal is a public health hazard. On arrival there were 5 completely full green bins - two of them crawling with hundreds of maggots. I put all of them out for collection at the specified time and none were emptied. The instructions need to be much clearer if the onus is going to be on the renter to do this
- Tom (8/5): Stunning location and property let down by a few basics. - The location and views are spectacular. The TV set up does not work. You can get live TV but not any on demand services.
The kitchen is not equipped as you would expect. Too few glasses, cups etc.
The wi fi password was incorrect so we contacted the hosts.
- Debra (6/5): We were disappointed with the state of the apartment considering we had paid £400 per night based on a four night stay. - The location is lovely and the view from the balcony is fantastic. The apartment needs to be maintained better. We found the following issues:
Two of the 3 sets of folding doors onto the roof balcony were broken and we could not open them. I call the office to report the issue and they advised that they were aware of the situation.
There was a dead bird on the balcony which was partly decomposed and had clearly been there for a while.
The washing machine was smelly and had black sludge in the seal around the door. I spent an hour cleaning the washer before I could use it.
The tumble dryer filter and door were clogged with lint dirt/ sand and I had to clean both before I could use the machine. Allowing the machine to get in this state presents a real fire hazard.
I didn’t attempt to use the dishwasher as it was really smelly and clearly hadn’t been cleaned for a while.
- Ony (10/5): Ideal location & spacious well appointed apartment - It is the first time I have been to a property where the photos do not do it justice.
The conservatory apartment at Southview House exceeded our expectations from the amount of space, the quality fittings in each en-suite to the comfortable furniture and art on the walls.
It was ideal for our group - a family of four (11 & 14 yr old girls) plus their two friends and our spaniel. The layout is well thought through with the open plan living/dining/kitchen, the separate sunroom to enjoy the view, a utility room ideal for cleaning up after a visit to the beach and three bedrooms with en suites.
There was also the added bonus of the games room on the ground floor that the girls enjoyed.
The location is ideal for easy access to the beach, the village and as a base for exploring Alnwick and the wider area. Really can’t praise the property enough - everyone of us enjoyed the place. Nothing
- Gordon (10/5): Exceptional - Exceptional facilities Nothing
- Rebecca (9/5): Beautiful location, very comfortable - Amazing location with views of the beach and estuary from the balcony, a beautiful loft style living room/kitchen, very comfortable sofas! Three en-suite bedrooms were perfect for our family of five, we had a great time. We couldn’t close the blinds in the main bedroom, and some kitchen appliance instructions were hard to find … but no real problem.
- Kirkwood (9/5): Great apartment, stunning views. - Lovely large modern loft style apartment with stunning views of the estuary and sea.
You could spend a whole day watching sea birds from the big balcony.
3 great pubs 5 mins walk away that all did excellent food at great prices.
Lots of castles to visit within 40 mins drive.
- Karen (9/5): Amazing views and spacious apartment - loved sitting in the sun room and watching the world go by. Alnmouth is a lovely - Amazing views and perfect location! Very clean and spacious with high quality fittings and lots of tech. Nice village with good places to eat and lovely walks along the coast. We couldn’t use the rear parking as we have a large car, but not a big issue as we did find free parking in front of the property. Some of the kitchen equipment could do with replacing and sky tv was glitchy.
- Claire (7/5): Beach Front Apartment - Beach front location close to shops and pubs.
Lovely sun room, large bathrooms, open plan kitchen/lounge/diner. Furniture in sun room had tatty, split cushions and seats which took away the overall experience. Tears in the seats and piping hanging off seat pads.
Beds were quite comfortable but very low to the floor. Not great for those who are elderly or have bad backs!!
Coffee machine leaked over the worktop and couldn't be used.
- Helen (7/5): Great views of the sea! - Great location with lovely views, spacious comfortable apartment so great for a family stay. We have stayed in Alnmouth before but the views from this place were great. There were a few issues with the stay, there was no key fob for the garage. We parked on the street but it was low season so there were spaces, I have been before in high season when parking is tricky. The host needs to sort out. Other people have complained about the tech aspects of the apartment and it was a bit of a pain to work out but once you have got your head round it, it's fine. How about the hosts making a short video telling you how it all works otherwise you have to really work it out for yourself? Some of the electric blinds were broken. On the last night all the electrics tripped in the kitchen so nothing worked except the cooker. If you find the cupboard with the fuse box in, you will not want to touch it as so complicated. We just left it. Some of the apartment is style over substance, the kitchen looks amazing but the sink is a pain and working out how to get hot water out of taps takes some twiddling around. Why not just put in normal taps? Finally there was no cleaning gear that we could find - no brush, hoover etc. If they are in the apartment leave directions how to find? Being by the beach, it would have been helpful to have had to get sand up. Other people have also asked for the same. All that said, I would stay in this apartment again because the views were great. An added bonus was also the games room downstairs which we didn't really use but would be good for people with older teenagers.
- Marilyn (8/5): Very good -
- Phil (9/5): Despite the points in 'what didn't you like' comments area, we found the flat comfortable and quiet. - Th local was exactly what we were looking for. The floor space was massive and more than comfortable for 6 people and two dogs. Alnmouth itself was perfect - restaurants (good quality) and other high end food shops.
Would we use again? Yes :-) On arrival - initially quite complex system of obtaining keys / entrance. If you are arriving in the dark make sure you have some form of illumination.
Parking - We had the ground floor and the locked 1 x parking space allocated at the rear of the property is the smallest of the three (one for each floor). This was challenging, if not impossible to get our SUV into due to the narrow alley and cars parked opposite. I would also question if the top box would have been fitted this would cause height issues to. However, we rented out of season and there was an abundance free parking outside the front of the property which is currently without restrictions / payment. During the weekend it was busier during the daylight low tide periods. Summer / school holidays could present some challenges having access to this free parking.
Sewage smell around the lift / entrance hall area - very occasional and can only link this to the sewage outflow and tides / rain conditions. This smell was also noted on walks in certain areas of the beach but not everywhere.
High technology flat fittings - not all worked and some the electric blind shutters were jammed in the closed position. Could not work out how to shut the conservatory blinds - perhaps rectify this before the spring weather ramps up.
- William (9/5): We had a brilliant weekend - Garden and middle floor flats. Very spacious and luxurious accommodation. Lovely views over River and sea beyond. Well equipped with en suite bathrooms for all bedrooms. Modern well appointed kitchen with everything you need for self catering for a group to a high standard. Living areas very spacious. Excellent central heating, Air Conditioning and lighting. Some items needing updating - some double glazed units 'blown'. Light bulbs over dining table in Garden Flat. Kitchen cupboard doors loose on hinges. Screw missing on Middle Flat High Chair strap rendering it unsafe.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christian (9/5): Superb - The setting and the stunning high spec interior of the apartment. A couple of things needed fixing, one of the ovens and the bathroom radiators but both were dealt with. The beds heights.. Extremely low probably less than 18 inches. No good for those with mobility issues which is ironic bearing in mind general accessibility is ideal with the lift. Anyone booking on that basis would possibly be unable to then access the beds. One of our party had to place spare pillows and duvets on their bed to heighten it.. If we had been full capacity they wouldnt have managed. Very unusual for such a high spec apartment.
- Evonne (10/5): Will definitely be back - The view!! The cushions in the sun room needed replacing
- Janine (10/5): The best long weekend accommodation ever! Wish we had booked for a week! Village stunning, beach, the views from the pro - We loved everything about this property, it’s absolutely perfectly stunning in every aspect! N/A
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good - Excellent location, lovely decor spacious.
Living area and conservatory lovely great views of the river and sea great access to the village and beach.
- Anthony (8/5): Very good -
- Karen (7/5): Really enjoyed our stay very relaxing - Location great Didn’t like beds and windows were steamed up inside in some of the panes and dirty which spoilt the view
- Janet (9/5): Wonderful! We were very lucky with the weather. It was our third stay in this property in last year. - View from the apartment is exceptional The windows and doors (bi fold mechanics) could have been cleaner, we cleaned them ourselves. This didn’t spoil our time there at all and we realise that there are so many birds it’s difficult to keep windows clean.
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - Beatiful apartment with a fantastic view of and easy access to the beach and esturary. Spacious, well designed and comfortable. Kitted out with high end appliances. Will be happy to return. The communal play room and washroom also useful. Some minor additions would have been helpful - a hoover or dustpan and brush to clear up the sand which we inevitably brought in from the beach. Some salt and pepper, kitchen towel.
- Simon (8/5): Lovely place, feels like it has been abandoned and forgotten by the owners. Needs some serious TLC. - The house is full of tech and quite quirky. The view over the estuary and beach are stunning. The main kitchen and lounge are lovely light filled rooms. The lift smelt of sewage, it got worse during the week. The tech was unreliable. The TV cut in and out constantly. The freezer drawer wouldn't shut and wouldn't keep temperature. The wine cooler wouldn't cool below 18. Our shower (the smaller double room) sprayed water all over the place, the screen is too short, had to mop up all the time (but there was no mop). The toilet flushed as soon as you got anywhere near it. I could go on and on.
- Angela (9/5): Superb -
- Linda (9/5): Happy family time with beautiful sea views. - Views & location stunning . En suites for everyone. Spacious . Sun room. Clean. Utility room facilities . Garden play area for kids .Nearby park . Beach two minutes . Drains smell on entering communal stairs ; communal stair area - huge stain on carpet ( which has been there for weeks ). Both made for very poor first impression . No instructions on working taps ! Couldn’t use bath / shower initially - took too long to work out ! No cleaning materials - we had 3 children with us.
- Ellis (10/5): Fantastic apartment - Stunning view of the ocean. Spacious and comfortable.Great location for the village pubs, cafes etc. Great walks from the doorstep. Short drive to local landmarks and attractions. Nothing, and I always have at least one negative thing to point out, so well done!
- Helen (10/5): fantastic views - everything was fabulous
- Neil (7/5): Not value for money - Great location right on beachfront.
Sun room with opening.doors was lovely to sit in and look out over beach.
House was huge. Lovely bathrooms. Far too much tech - spent too long trying to work out how things worked and the things that are important were overlooked such as bottles in the kitchen with no labels on, uncomfortable dining chairs, two slot toaster for a house for 6 people, oven made such a racket we didn't use it, music system not easy to use, kitchen layout unhelpful, TV in bathroom not working properly. The stair carpet was filthy and stained and a very musty smell in the stairwell.
- James (10/5): amazing - everything was very impressive the only slight issue was the tv in the living room, the sky wouldn’t work and couldn’t sign into roku but this wasn’t the end of the world
- Patrick (10/5): Wonderful apartment amazing views - The apartment was amazing and beautiful with views to match Neither of the ovens were working properly whilst we stayed which did complicate things as we had brought food to be cooked in an oven
- Lynn (9/5): fabulous stay can’t wait too book the penthouse again . great space inside different seating areas and the location and - location and the space inside the apartment we stayed in the penthouse and the views were stunning . blinds need fixed for the main control panel and tv in bathroom not work .
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wendy (8/5): Very good - All of it Nothing
- Samantha (10/5): The Best - Amazing property sunrise views outstanding, lots of room, lovely and warm, everything you would need in the kitchen. Just perfect, beds were really comfortable
- Sam (9/5): loved the house and location are already looking at staying again in the spring - Perfect location with a fantastic view of Alnmouth’s estuary and coast line. very comfortable rooms with plenty of space Not a big problem but took a little while to find out how everything worked
- Lucy (9/5): Superb -
- Alison (8/5): Very good -
- Brett (9/5): Superb -
- Chris (7/5): Good -
- Dace (7/5): luxury is only skin deep, but the views are fantastic! - the views were fantastic from the deck, lots of space , great location too high tech and not enough information about how to work the oven, microwave, towel radiators, sonos etc. the kitchen was not designed for cooking with poor lighting and a strange small fridge, not large enough for 6 people. we had a list of items that needed fixing or supplying but the agents did not come and fix them as promised.
