Guest Reviews
- Dixie (8/5): - Location was excellent for our stay. Close to beach and bus lines
- LYNNE (10/5): We had a great time. - Gerald at the front desk was very helpful and explained everything. The room was very clean and spacious, with a lovely view of the mountains and Ala Wai Canal. The location was perfect, walking distance within the Waikiki area. I was not made aware that the pool was going to be closed for renovation when I made the reservation.
- Garry (9/5): - A very nice location only a few minutes walk from Wakiki.
Well equipped and pleasant Unfortunately from this room you are not able to see the ocean.
It has an inland view albeit it a very pleasant view of the hills
- William (8/5): 4 day stay - Nice and quiet and clean close to everything Nothing
- Patrick (8/5): -
- christina (8/5): - Die lage, zimmergrösse waren super! Es hatte sogar strandtücher!! Der teppich im zimmer!
- Wiktoria (9/5): -
- Nicole (6/5): - Room was not completely cleaned when we arrived. Check in staff only available until 4pm so make sure you arrive before that time, otherwise they’re available by email. Location is convenient, short walk to the beach but the cheap price is what you get.
- lucy (1/5): I was not happy with any aspect of our stay at this hotel. - the location was a little difficult to find but we made it. The office staff was nice. the parking was very difficult and spaces were narrow. I didn't realize its also a public parking garage , not just for the hotel guests. The accommodations were in need of some updating and cleaning and the first thing to greet us as we walked through the door was a horrible chemical smell that instantly gave me a headache! They were also doing some renovations above us and across the hall which included drilling, banging and dropping things on the floor just above us. When we complained to the staff they said they would try to move us but never did. At check out they apologized but said there are privately owned units and they have no idea when renovations are being done.
- Brooklyn (8/5): - everything was good and customer service was good!
- Daniela (8/5): - Genügend Parkplätze vorhanden. Sehr zentral gelegen Schwierig zum finden um einzuchecken, da nichts angeschrieben war
- Robyn (8/5): - great location pool being renovated i.e. no pool
- Riccardo Lucatorto (7/5): -
- Praveen S (6/5): - Was good….mattress was out of shape and not good for back…
- VASSILIOS (4/5): - They expect you to keep all towels for a week.
They exchange them weekly.
They don’t supply toilet paper, only a few rolls at the beginning of your trip.
No room service unless you want to pay like $80 per day.
They should mention all of this when they offer their rooms so we are aware.
- Dunkara (9/5): - Dobře vybavený apartmán ve 21. patře, v blízkosti pláže. K dispozici byly i plážové osušky. Byl nám umožněn pozdější check-out, coż jsme hodně ocenili.
- Ada (10/5): It is my second time to stay in, I would like to stay here next year - Close to the beach, good foods around the hotel
- Eden Sanchez (8/5): - Really enjoyed our stay. Rachelle, the hotel manager was super sweet and very helpful.
- Ambra Giovannini (8/5): - Posizione, pulizia, cortesia Aria condizionata molto rumorosa
- Carolyn (7/5): Overall good location with free parking - Location and free parking The chaulk around the bathtub and shower curtain have mildews and definitely needed to be bleach down
- Deirdre (10/5): - My family and I stayed at this condo for almost 3 weeks. It was absolutely perfect for all of us. Plenty of space, clean, and access to the beach was a quick walk. Rochelle Martinho was amazing! Communication was always quick and helpful. She helped ensure my family and I had the best time. I would absolutely recommend this property. We had the most wonderful time!
- Flavia Fernanda (10/5): - Beautiful apartment, 2 blocks from Main Street. Great parking
- Bethany (2/5): - Check in was like a safety meeting, you had to wait until they showed up to check you in and give you a 45 minute talk about getting into your room. No amenities. Rude, didn’t communicate well. Did not enjoy our stay. Don’t waste your money.
- Patrick (8/5): - Location was great, close to the beach and stores & food all within walking distances. Only problem i had was finding the place because it doesn't say sweetwater anywhere. I had to go into tower 1 to check in and sweetwater was in tower 2 . Kinda confusing at first but once we checked in everything was great .
- Armphil (8/5): - The property is decent. it’s walking distance to Waikīkī beach and parking is free.
- Carl Stephen (8/5): - Good location, secured parking included, good sized room, kitchenette supplied with pots/pans, utensils and dining ware.
- Gang (7/5): Good - Location is good, closed to everywhere. Furniture is old.
- Barbara (7/5): Overall staff was pleasant and very good for the price - Location, kitchen No daily towel exchange
- Julie (8/5): - Sweetwater Waikiki is a good place to stay in Waikiki. I liked that they include a parking pass, otherwise it was $50 a day to park there. Amenities are pretty nonexistent- the property is undergoing renovations and will be for at least a year, so no pool or hot tub, but the parking pass made up for it. Be sure to bring your own travel toiletries because the ones they provide are not good- tiny bar soaps and tiny bottles of shampoo, no conditioner. One rather odd thing about the unit I stayed in was the floor was very slippery. There was a layer of floor cleaner residue all over the floor making walking in the unit difficult. Overall I would stay there again, it’s a great value for the location and I’m sure it will be even better when they complete renovations! Also their employee Rochelle is absolutely awesome!
- Paula J (10/5): - Liked that it was easy to park our rental car. The room and surrounding area was quiet and clean. Had extras for the beach. Had kitchen ammenities. Enjoyed our stay.
- Grażyna (10/5): SUPER - We had a very long journey from Poland and we enjoyed it very much, thank you and best regards -
- Young (10/5): Exceptional - Sweetwater is located in middle of Waikiki and only took 10min to a beach and other hot spot
Free parking was a big advantage for staying in middle of Waikiki. I could find almost everything
I need to cook in the kitchen. I really appreciate the manager in office for extra help. Thank you Rochelle !
- Mikhail (10/5): Exceptional - It was a wonderful experience
- Virginie (1/5): BEWARE OF SCAM! POOL CLOSED UNTIL JUNE 2026! BOOKING.COM AWARE OF IT AND LETTING IT HAPPEN. - Location is good. BEWARE OF SCAM! POOL CLOSED UNTIL JUNE 2026!
BOOKING.COM AWARE OF IT AND LETTING IT HAPPEN.
The whole recreation desk is under renovation until June 2026 and they are not mentioning it on their webpage on booking.com.
When I arrived on April 12, Sweetwater management told me that they knew since only 2 weeks, which is a lie as the hotel sharing the building knew way before that (it's a huge renovation with a huge impact, all parties were informed well in advance). And even if only 2 weeks, I would still have had the time to cancel and book another property, HAD I BEEN INFORMED.
Then Sweetwater management told me they would do nothing to compensate me for this scam, not even secure access to another pool. And they also still don't have it under their fine prints on their Booking.com web page and Booking.com said they can't do nothing about that. All they can do is collect their share of money when a booking is made. I'm really disappointed by Booking.com.
Accessorily, Sweetwater claims to have an emergency number for checking in, which they don’t, and although they ask you to call 2 days in advance, don’t bother, because they will tell you to just wait to check in.
At first I thought they were just an amateur rental company, but they are actually scamming customers to get reservations.
- Olena (8/5): Very good -
- Tomor (2/5): - I'm rating this property a 1 because upon arrival discovered that the pool & ALL amenities were closed and we were never told that ahead of time. We traveled from Alaska so a pool on our tropical vacation was a MUST, kind of the point and INCREDIBLY disappointing when we discovered we didn't have one of the only things we came for. Then, when we asked to be refunded so we could move, we were told to take it up with Expedia because that's who we booked thru (Any guesses on how well that went?). We weren't the only ones who didn't know either - the couple in front of us was equally as upset and the wife was visibly crying. Property itself was in good location just a couple blocks off of the main drag and all of the mayhem that is Waikiki. Unit in very large, very busy hotel - expect to wait in line for elevators. Unit itself was decent - spacious for 4 people (one king, one queen murphy bed). Very clean, but strong smell of Fabuloso cleaner and tile floors had an odd, slippery film on them. Pool closer was effective April 7 2025 until further notice so if you are planning to stay there anytime soon, you may want to call first (Also known as the Waikiki Banyan).
- Gina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robinson (10/5): - Very convenient location, walkable to the beach, shopping and restaurants. There were a few minor issues, but the managerment quickly that they took care of. Free parking is a plus. We would stay there again in the future if we had a chance.
- Sidharth (1/5): Bad - They confirmed the stay on Sunday but once we arrived no one was at reception. With two small kids, this uncertainty was a very bad experience
- Sue (10/5): - Roaches... everything else is wonderful 👍
- hong dean (10/5): - The property was well-equipped and location was close to the heart of Waikīkī. Free parking was a huge bonus as it is normally $50 a day.
- Josephine (8/5): Very good - Location Both beds very uncomfortable. Couch uncomfortable.
- Andrus (10/5): Everything was very nice - It was a pleasant vacation, everything you needed was there and Waikiki beach was a few hundred meters away
- Andrew (8/5): Very good - Nice big apartment, close to Waikiki Beach, at a good price.
All the amenities to be able to cook if needed. Single aircon unit, at floor level, didn't provide sufficient cooling, so fan also required to make the temperature bearable.
Mattress kept sliding on the hard plastic bed base.
- David (7/5): Good central option with free parking close to the beach - Very spacious, has everything you need for a short stay except washing machine but there are laundry rooms on each floor for a reasonable price. Good internet connection and decent TV selection. Close to the beach, restaurants etc. Free parking which seems to be rare in Waikiki & there was always a space available on the 2nd or 3rd floor. Only used the pool/hot tub twice as it was very windy but those facilities are okay if a bit busy. Few too many cockroaches in the kitchen for my liking. Some of the fittings are worn out, few shelves hanging off the wall & a towel rail was broken but when I reported it someone came to fix it the very next day. 1 elevator was broken and the other 3 were struggling to deal with the traffic. Often the wait for an elevator was painful, several other people were saying the same. Street noise is a bit annoying but it is very central so should be expected in such a busy city.
- David (8/5): Free parking, more space than hotel room, convenient location all make Sweetwater a great value. -
- Dylan (10/5): Exceptional - Everything.. this place was incredible. Full sized kitchen with fridge was awesome for us as we saved a ton of money from cooking in. Free parking was a huge benefit as every other hotel in Waikiki charged $50 USD a day! The pool was great, there was always a chair available. The room was huge and just a super nice place to stay I'm not a picky guy, everything was great.
- Raissa (10/5): - The condo was very clean and tidy. We really appreciated the full kitchen and all the equipment - silverware, plates, pans, everything was available. The property was family friendly. Great location, walkable to most local places and the beach. A lovely place to rest.
- Vignesh Kumar (8/5): - A budget friendly stay
- Kerry (10/5): - Lots of space inside of Condo for our family.
- Kassy (10/5): Perfect Place for a Getaway with Littles - We’ve stayed at the property before but not with Sweetwater. It was a little difficult to find the “front desk” to check in (it’s an office on the 4th level not the hotel lobby). Once we found it, the ladies were so nice and even let us check in a couple of hours early since our room was ready so our toddler could nap!! Our room was in the level of the pool/hot tub and playground so we got to go right out of the lanai and walk over. It was the perfect place for us and our toddler!! We would stay again!
- Tenzin (10/5): - great location!
- Mark Gerald (10/5): - We liked the location, free parking included, the walls are soundproofed well (we were beside the elevator and wont hear anything, even next door noise wont be heard)
- Sri Naga Mallikarjuna Rao (4/5): - Overall Sweetwater Waikiki was not that great. The front desk was non cooperative with our requests (no blankets, towel rod was broken) and requested us to contact our hosts. The host of the hotel room was not reachable as Expedia did not provide their details. The room itself was dirty as it had roaches in the cabinets and fridge. On the plus side, the location of the hotel was ideal as it was close to the shops and nearby beach. The area was walkable and easily accessible to the mall and restaurants. We primarily went to the apartment to sleep and shower, so it was not much of a burden in the long run.
- Won Shik (8/5): - elevator issue
- Kaleigh (10/5): - Everything was great. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking. They provided beach towels. The shower was a great temperature. The only area of improvement would be the king size bed. The mattress was old and uncomfortable on the main bed. The murphy bed mattress was very comfortable. Would definitely book again
- Vilas (4/5): - No one to checkin to the room, they left instructions in envelope. No one replies back to phone calls or emails for 2 days. Maintenance service took days. Parking was free but parking pass provided after two days (I had to pay $43 each day). No room cleaning or fresh towels for entire stay. Floor was sticky.
Overall bad experience
- Svetlana (8/5): - We were out almost everyday the whole day so we really just stayed here to sleep. We also cooked some food and they had complete set of cookware, plates, utensils, cups, everything. There’s even a microwave and coffee maker too. Some cabinets were broken but it didn’t affect us too much. There were plenty of towels to use for bathing and to bring to the beach but there weren’t a lot of soap and shampoo for the number of days that we stayed. Also, we waited for the elevator for 40mins because everyone is checking out same time as we were checking out, so check out early if you can
- Randy D (8/5): - Access to every place and everything, the beach, Dining, Laundry, Spacious rooms excellent
- Bianca (4/5): - The stay was fine but our room had cockroaches
- Larry (6/5): - Communication with host was initially very slow. Staffing issues forced limited hours of availability. Our suite was very roomy and comfortable but also very dated. More care could have been taken in housekeeping as the floor was in dire need of cleaning and there was food left in the freezer. Great location, easy to walk to everything you need.
- Eleanor (10/5): - Waikiki Banyan - A Comfortable and Convenient Stay
Werecently had the pleasure of staying at the Waikiki Banyan, and overall, it was a fantastic experience. We were two adults two kids under 12. The apartment I stayed in was well-stocked with everything needed for a comfortable stay. The kitchen was fully equipped with all the essentials, which made it easy to prepare meals. It had toaster, kettle, dishwasher, salt and pepper, large fridge and stove top. Plenty of glassware and cutlery
The unit itself was very clean, with freshly painted walls that gave the space a refreshed and welcoming feel. The beds were especially comfortable. The apartment was also quite quiet, which was a pleasant surprise considering the central location. The furniture was dated but this was not important.
The Waikiki Banyan was just a short walk to the beach, shopping, dining, and all the attractions of Waikiki, making it an ideal spot for anyone wanting to experience the best of the area.
The only downside was the inconsistent pool rules and hotel policy regarding luggage storage. On checkout day, I was disappointed to find that the hotel side of the property doesn't offer luggage storage, which would have been really helpful since my flight was in the evening. This was a small inconvenience, but fortunately, I was able to work around it.
All in all, I would definitely recommend the Waikiki Banyan for anyone looking for a well-located, comfortable, and affordable place to stay in Waikiki.
- Vanessa M (4/5): - At first it was a good start then around the evening there were roaches that came out from under the lamp near the microwave. We killed approximately 8-10 of them in one night.
- ROSEMARY (10/5): Five day visit to see family - This was perfect for our five day stay. Having parking was a huge benefit! Staff was very nice and helpful. Everything was exactly as shown. We would definitely stay here again.
- Claudia Raquel (6/5): - was there for a wedding . For the price it served its purpose. Not too bad
- Carmencita (10/5): - Property was walkable everywhere. The manager Melissa was friendly and easy to communicate with.
The unit was complete with rice cooker, Coffee maker, pots and pans. Parking was included so that saved us a lot of $. No resort fee coz it was a timeshare unit. I would stay here again!
- larry (8/5): - Overall clean and easy access to beach
- Joyce (8/5): - The bus stop is just around the corner.
- Tam (8/5): - the parking is great
- Anthony (8/5): - This was a bit run down and needs upgrades. There was a roach in the bathroom. I got home and had to make sure I didn’t bring anything in the baggage.
- Erika (10/5): - Sweetwater Waikiki is a good choice for travelers seeking affordability and convenience without sacrificing cleanliness and essential amenities. It's just a 5 minute walk to Kuhio Beach, it's a budget-friendly gem in an otherwise very pricey neighborhood.
When you arrive at the address provided, you won’t see a sign for Sweetwater Waikiki. Instead, you'll find a sign for Waikiki Banyan. Don’t worry; you’re at the right place. The property houses multiple hotel companies, which can be confusing so pay close attention to your check-in instructions. If you won’t be arriving between 3PM and 4PM, it's important to communicate your arrival time to simplify the process as Sweetwater's staff have limited hours. Also, despite what some reviews might say, the front desk staff are very helpful if you need assistance.
The rooms may be a bit outdated, but they are clean and well-equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. For families traveling with teens, the availability of additional roll-out beds was a lifesaver, allowing our teens to enjoy their space without having to share a bed.
The pool is small and shallow but who goes to Hawai'i to hang out at the pool anyway right? There are onsite laundry facilities on each floor, which added to the convenience and ease of our stay.
Despite being incredibly short-staffed, the property's manager, Melissa, was incredibly kind and helpful, ensuring our experience was smooth and enjoyable. Her dedication truly made a difference!
- John (10/5): - Easy check in, Melissa helpful and friendly. Comfortable and clean unit. Good location, close to restaurants, shops and beach.
- Elizabeth A (8/5): - We loved it
- Bryan (10/5): - 2 things that I can't stress enough
- parking included
- full kitchen
The staff are very friendly and that means a lot for someone who frequently travel to HNL. A block away from the beach, stores, shopping and dining are pretty close.
This is a great place where you can park anytime and cook anytime! For those who are traveling first time in Hawaii, one word " HUGE SAVINGS". Level 2-5 are the available parking space but we always find a spot down level 2 before 6pm.
Just 5 minute walk to Kuhio Beach! You can find a good spot early in the day, quickly go back to your hotel and use the pool, just chill and back to the beach!
Our suite can easily sleeps 4 people. Big living space and kitchen. Nice big tub and you dont have to wait very long for hot shower.
We really enjoyed our stay here at Sweetwater at Waikiki!
- Luke (10/5): - A great spot in the thick of the action and close to everything at a great affordable price. Room was nice and clean, spacious and comfortable.
- Lucas Gabriel (10/5): - Great experience
- John (8/5): - We didn’t like the fact the room was filled with roaches.
- Ganesh (10/5): - Clean, friendly and parking was easy.
- William (10/5): - Our family had a truly great time staying in this apartment. Having use of a full kitchen and a laundry room at the end of the corridor made such difference. Melissa was super helpful and went above and beyond. Also don’t forget the free parking, we will be back and highly recommend to anyone .
- Nayeli (4/5): - Loved the room, make sure you are renting a vehicle that is less than 6ft.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The location was good, but there were a lot of cockroaches in the kitchen, they got in my coffee and made me sick. The room had minimal amenities. The room was old and in need of updating, the drainage was not good, the electricity in the bathroom was out. The pool had no shade so you can only stay for a short time. The jacuzzi was out of order.
- JD (8/5): - Don't listen to the bad reviews - this place was just fine. The room was clean, beds were comfortable. They are understaffed so pre-vacation communication was limited, but once we got there, no issues. Good location and free parking was huge! One of the cheapest places we could find in Waikiki and I have no regrets. I'd stay there again.
- Paul Christian L. (10/5): - Convenient to everything
- jair (10/5): - Jessica from the office was super nice and polite and the beach is a 3 minute walk. Plus amazing rooms that are very spacious, so overall I loved my stay here at the sweetwater hotel.
- Daniela (8/5): - The place was good, it had all the things needed for a comfortable stay. The check in was kind of weird.
- Jonathan (10/5): Much more than expected ! - We loved our stay. Close to the beach and bus stops. Lots of space, all the amenities needed included a dishwasher, a regular size fridge, a big microwave/oven and a stove top! There is also a laundry room on most floors (2.50$/wash or dry). Great for a family of four. I would definitely recommend this place. 😁
- Pamela (10/5): Kuhio Beach heaven! - I loved my stay at this location. Tower #1 is for the condo timeshare rentals and Tower #2 is the Aston Baynon hotel. The location to Waikiki beach and shops is great! There is a 5-7 minute walk to the Kuhio beach and a ten minute walk to access the blocks of shops. There is a pool and two hot tubs on the 6th floor, a mini mart, and a coffee cafe in the lobby. I would definitely stay here again!
- Bernard Corpuz (8/5): - Floors were mopped and drying when I arrived.
When they dried up it was very sandy. Other then that issue everything else was
Great. It was unpredictable when new towels and cleaning would show up. During my 5 day stay they were changed once.
- Jason (10/5): - Inconvenient with the elevator, There’s cockroaches in our room.
- Chris (9/5): Superb -
- Kendra Renee (10/5): - Liked- parking was included, kitchenette, murphy bed, walking distance to beach and shopping, balcony
Only 18 minutes to Walmart.
Did not like- construction, water shut off during stay, pool and jacuzzi were drained for a week (maintenance), dry sauna was under renovation. Also when I asked front desk about extra towels, they told me to call my host.
They did bring clean towels the next day though.
- Stacey (10/5): - Loved staying here every thing is close by walking distance. Melissa the lady that checked us in was simply amazing and great communication and accommodating. The room was nice and big and fully equipped with everything we needed. The doors a a little wanky but overall it was a great stay. I’ll definitely stay here again.
- Catherine (10/5): Close to the beach, clean, comfortable - Everything Nothing
- Maria (9/5): The room was spacious for 3 people. Location was great. - Location. The building and the unit is old but our unit is clean. I appreciate the attention they put into this. I appreciate the laundry facilities but I wish there were more than just 1 set of washer and dryer on every floor. Parking garage was a bit difficult to maneuver due to narrow spaces. The manager was difficult to get hold of. The office was not open as listed. The shower drain was slow so you're in an inch of bath water by the time your shower was over.
- Henry (10/5): Excellent place to stay - The location, very clean and got every thing I needed. Also, the apartment came with parking included, free of charges. The ladies at the office were very friendly and courteous.
I will highly recommended . We liked everything.
- Wallace (8/5): Great location and comfortable apartment with all the basics. - Great location with everything we needed. Views of the mountains. Parking was very easy. No - it was all good, though to be pedantic a few non-American coffee options would be nice. i.e., a bit more international friendly.
- Daniel (7/5): Good -
