We had plunger coffee as there was no electricity but this was also good. The spot lights are super bright and we needed to close just about everything to get the room dark enough.

• RinseW (7/5): Let goed op welke kamer je boekt! - Prima locatie in rustige omgeving met mooie tuin en mooi uitzicht. Sfeervol restaurant en vriendelijk personeel. Voor mijn gevoel had ik twee dezelfde kamers geboekt voor een collega en mijzelf, dezelfde prijs, maar mijn kamer was een stuk kleiner, met ook een hele kleine badkamer (glazen deur als afscheiding met rest van de kamer). Queensize bed aan de smalle kant voor 2 gasten die deze kamer moeten delen. In eerste instantie was er ook geen enkel stopcontact beschikbaar om telefoon of laptop op te laden. Later werd een stekkerdoos gebracht. Lichtknop voor hoofdverlichting werkte na terugkomst van het diner niet meer. De kamers zijn vrij gehorig.

• Luc (8/5): Loved the place, the staff and service as well as the location. Needs some maintenance upgrading. - Summerhill Guest Estate is a beautiful property in a pretty and safe location. The service was excellent and the restaurant very good. The whole property could do with some upgrading. Some of the rooms are nicely renovated while others aren't. The gardens are running a little wild and the pool area and furniture could do with upgrading. The water pipes get quite noisy when someone takes a shower in an adjacent room.

• Penny (8/5): loved the room, friendly staff and location. Online & check-in/check-out admin needs improvement - I loved the facilities and the location. The staff were very friendly and the dinner was amazing. I found that while the staff were very friendly, they could not answer many of the questions posed to them. One of our guests was gluten and dairy free and they could not tell us what food options would best suit him. We were asked to check in online, giving options for breakfast etc. I am not sure why we did this as the guest house did not use any of the information/requests we had submitted online. We had a sporting competition on Saturday and Sunday which meant we had to leave the venue at 06:15. We asked for "brown paper bag breakfasts" to take to the venue with us. This request was ignored. So we went away with no breakfast each day because the restaurant only opened at 06:30. We did ask one of the staff members to help us with food in the morning, which they promised to do, but nothing materialized and the staff member was not on duty in the morning. So while i found the venue, staff and food to be terrific, the administration (check-in/check-out, special online requests etc) needs to be improved upon.

• Sandra (6/5): Family atmosphere for good food and hospitality - Rooms were super relaxing and just what was needed at the end of a long hard day For the first time ever, we were disappointed with the food off the ala carte menu. Plates were cold, so food was cold. Sear on the steak was too hard and the middle of cut was cold inside. The desserts were marvelous though. Missed the breads with your special butters. I hope this was just a blip in your normal perfection because you were VERY busy with a tasting that night and seemed a little overwhelmed. Next time, I'll do the tasting so I can have all the attention 😎 PS your staff were superb!

No tissues. Lights went out for over 24 hours and only one candle. No umbrellas. We didn’t think the food was as good as in our previous stay.

Place is under major renovation, which began early in the morning. Bread at breakfast was uneatable. Waiter could not find the wine so I had to find it in the fridge myself. Owner ate breakfast in restaurant with own outside food on the table. The garden was overgrown and a mess. There was no Eskom power first night and the solar-charged batteries did not last the night, so we did not sleep before 3 am because of the heat. Room was old and worn.

The room was gorgeous with all the facilities we needed and with beautiful views of the valley. We loved everything !

The landscape is beautiful, lots of native trees and lush greenery around the property. I’d recommend the restaurant too, fabulous food and wine. Staff were so friendly and helpful- really welcoming! If you want to avoid the generic hotels and get a real sense of place in a relaxed atmosphere, I’d highly recommend Summerhill. Nothing

• Alison (10/5): A great experience overall - highly recommended by a discerning traveler! - I was fortunate enough to be upgraded to one of the new suites which was very large, beautifully appointed, quiet and extremely comfortable. The finishes and furnishings are all top quality and the rooms and common areas are beautifully appointed. Great attention to detail regarding customer comforts - tea selection, coffee offering in the room, heating/cooling. The staff are friendly and competent. The location is very convenient and the garden setting is lovely. The breakfast offering was excellent and the service in the dining room was welcoming, quick and efficient. Nothing to complain about at all!

Breakfast was good and there was the option to have dinner as well. The staff were friendly and professional. Good space for me to work in the room and good WiFi Basically nothing. Just a few suggestions. A top sheet in the bed. A waste basket in the bedroom or lounge Lastly - it was great to have several tea and coffee options but I like milk in both so it would have been super to have a little jug of milk in the fridge.

• Janet (8/5): Great food, tired rooms. - The restaurant was absolutely amazing, the food, the service, the ambience..... It was such a great experience. Thank you. The rooms are in desperate need of an upgrade, the bathrooms have broken fittings and cracked tiles. There is no sound proofing in the rooms, you hear EVERYTHING that is happening outside and if people walk past your room at night it wakes you up.
