Guest Reviews
- Angela Crompton (10/5): - The closeness to the Pilot station and the Penguin tours, the quiet, the view across the golf course.
Compact but very well laid out and equipped
Knowledgeable and informative hosts
- Nora Maria (9/5): - es un pequeño bungalow que esta bonito y con todo lo necesario
- jodie (10/5): - Exceptional property. So peaceful. Hosts had fantastic communication. Highly recommend.
- Jennifer (7/5): A good place to stay for a short visit to Georgetown - Very warm on cold windy days
Lots of information about attractions We could not light the BBQ and had no alternative means to make it work.
- Renato (10/5): EXCELLENT STAY, A TRUE HIDDEN GEM - We had the most incredible 3 night stay at the Cockle Shell Bungalow over the Easter weekend. The location is absolutely perfect nestled between two beautiful beaches, with one right at the front and another accessible via a peaceful walk across the golf course (where you may find Peter playing golf if you can spot him) from the back of the back of the property. It really felt like the best of both worlds.
The bungalow itself is quaint, cozy and ideal for 2 - 4 guests. From the moment we arrived, everything felt spotless, welcoming and thoughtfully set up. It truly felt like a home away from home. The kitchen was very well equipped with plenty of utensils, a coffee machine even an air fryer! Making it easy to cook and we especially loved using the BBQ everyday. Spending time out on the patio, whether for meals, afternoon drinks or a few games of uno was a highlight of our stay.
What really stood out was how relaxing and peaceful everything was. It gave us the perfect escape from our busy lives, allowing us to slow down and properly unwind in a serene setting. We enjoyed lovely beach walks, visiting the lighthouse, and also made the most of simply staying in and enjoying all the comforts of the bungalow.
The information book provided was fantastic, full of useful tips on local tours, places to eat and even some fascinating history about the property.
Peter & Zing were exceptional hosts, friendly, attentive and genuinely warm. They struck thr perfect balance between being available when needed and giving us complete privacy. We even ended up sharing a BBQ and drinks with them on our first night, which was such an unexpected but lovely touch to our stay. They made us feel like old friends, yet were always respectful of our space.
We couldn't have asked for a better experience. This was one of our most relaxing and enjoyable weekend get aways and will absolutely be returning.
If your thinking about booking, do it! Everything was perfect!

- Sean (9/5): A comfortable, convenient stay that met my needs and made my trip easy. - The property was clean, comfortable and exactly as described. The bed was really comfy, the shower had good pressure and it was nice and very quiet at night. Check-in was straightforward and the location made it easy to get to shops and local attractions. Looking over the golf course from the room to East Beach was beautiful. Nothing comes to mind.

The host was incredibly kind and helpful, making everything so easy and comfortable. You can really tell they care about their guests.
I’d happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, clean, and relaxing place to unwind. Nothing
- Judy (10/5): - All the facilities are very well maintained
- Christopher (10/5): It would be very hard to find a more relaxing place to stay. - I stayed at Low Head beachside bungalow "Cockle Shell" for three nights with my wife, daughter and grandson, all of us thought that the bungalow was absolutely lovely. Peter, the owner of Cockle Shell has really done everything to ensure one's stay is comfortable, relaxing and the cottage provides everything for one's stay. The location is beautiful at Low Head, from the accommodation you can see across a golf course where waves are rolling in to East Beach, in the other direction it's just a very short walk across the road to Pilot Bay on the Tamar River, where the fishing is great and the views are beautiful. A short drive away is Georgetown, which has a Woolworth's and IGA supermarket, as well as a number of other shops, cafe's and pubs. As mentioned above, Peter was a joy to deal with, he advised us of good places to eat, if we wanted to eat out and some different places we could visit, he could not have been more helpful or nicer. I have no hesitation in recommending Low Head beachside bungalow "Cockle Shell" to anyone wanting a relaxing stay at a very reasonable price. The only thing we didn't like was having to leave such a beautiful place.

Peter and Zing went out of their way to ensure our stay was enjoyable, nothing was too much trouble.
Cockle Shell bungalow is extremely well appointed and well provisioned; a quiet, calm and secure base from which to explore that part of Tasmania. There is nothing to “not like” about Cockle Shell !
- Kerry (10/5): A fantastic place to see all Low Head has to offer! - The owners were very welcoming and gave helpful local information. The location was fantastic - you can walk to the Pilot Station with it's museum and coffee shop, the light house and also the penguin tours. The bungalow was well equipped and very comfortable, and very private even though located in the back yard of the owners' house. Would go back again!

- Liz (10/5): Loved our stay here with all the property and Low Head had to offer. - Our hosts were very welcoming and helpful in suggesting some great stops on the way from Launceston. Accomodation was comfortable with every cooking utensil we could want.
We were given delicious cherry tomatoes picked fresh from the garden.

- Narelle (8/5): Very good - Location. Comfortable cottage. Friendly locals. Pillows. No wardrobe in main bedroom.
- Carolyn (9/5): Superb - Beautiful area, and very close to where we needed to be 🙂 Nice and cosy little cabin. We are sure it's a work in progress and didn't worry our stay. But the outside could be decorated with more than an outdoor setting. Some potted plants and flower gardens. We were lucky enough to pick some flowers from the front garden. But more needed around the outside of cabin, would make more welcoming on arrival 🌳🌻
- Edlyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- San (10/5): Very comfortable stay with great value - Cozy, tidy and clean with everything we need. It has spectacular views and could enjoy the sunrise in the bed. No
- Denise (8/5): Very good - the size of the kitchen/dining/lounge area, bit squashed for space when travelling with family member.
bedrooms were great, just the other areas were small. No really view or anything to look at hence the cabin being in the back of the backyard
- Allison (10/5): Full of surprises - Peter and Zing are wonderful hosts. Very knowledgeable of the area. Bungalow was very clean with plenty of extra items that you wouldn't find in other accommodation. Even an airfryer! Plenty of room for the 4 of us to relax and a short stroll up the road to the lighthouse to watch the sun set over the ocean.
Beautiful sunrises out the back each morning. We highly recommend Cockle Shell as 'the' place to stay when visiting Low Head. Zing even made us yummy chicken dumplings. It's 10/10 from us.
We will be back.
Thanks again Peter and Zing

- Hunt (9/5): Superb - It was a quiet place. Nothing
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Desley (10/5): Exceptional - Very cosy and clean across the road from the river and such a beautiful area
- Jennz007 (10/5): Exceptional - Peter was extremely friendly and helpful during our stay. He even lent us his rods and suggested fishing spots as local restaurants, too. The kitchen was equipped with all cooking utensils and even had oil/spices & sauces to season too.
- Stuart (9/5): Superb -
- Diana (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect location for access to Low Head and surrounding areas. Across from the beach, pilot station, and a local cafe with great coffee and amazing fresh fish and chips. Walking distance to the lighthouse and penguin colony.
Close to drive to local attractions like seahorse world and Platypus House, and Bridport for a large playground for kids, Saturday market and food van park. 6 minute drive to George George Town, which also has a great playground.
The accommodation was great for kids. House was lovely and warm, and had a fully stocked kitchen and great wifi.
The hosts are lovely and helpful with local tips on places to go and had beach toys available for the kids.
- Nils (10/5): Perfect! - It was just perfect for us, the host and hostess were very friendly and helpful... Everything was very compact and liveable, extremely clean and equipped beyond our expectations. We will definitely recommend Cockle Shells and heir host and hostess. to friends and family. real value for money and a great experience. We just liked everything!
- Annette (10/5): Very nice and helpful owners, great place to stay! - Lovely decor and very clean. Great comfortable beds and fresh sheets. Everything available for meal preparation etc. There is nothing that I didn’t like about the property.
- Kim (9/5): Superb - A charming little cottage. Clean and we'll equipped.. Friendly and helpful hosts.. Would definitely stay again... Nothing..
- Valerie (9/5): Lovely, coastal self-contained B&B. - This property has the perfect location…down the road from the lighthouse and across a very quiet golf course to a beautiful beach. Everything was spotlessly clean and fresh, the kitchen was very well-stocked with plenty of cutlery, crockery and utensils, the bed was comfortable and the shower was hot. There was also an under-cover area with a Weber BBQ and seating. We had a very relaxing stay here and would recommend Cockle Shell to anyone visiting this part of Tassie. Although we knew the address of the B&B, it is located at the back of the property and therefore is invisible from the road. A ‘Cockle Shell’ (or even ‘B&B’) sign near the letterbox would have been so helpful.
- Tegan (10/5): Cockle Shell Experience - They say that good things come in small packages...well Cockle Shell is exceptional ! We loved our experience there.
The main beach is a short walk across the golf course, and Pilots Beach is literally a minute away, as is the restaurant.
Peter and Zing were wonderful hosts who were happy to share knowledge about the history and nearby walks.
The only thing we are sad about is that we couldn't stay MUCH longer !
We will definitely stay again. !
Highly recommend !!!
10/10 🙂🙂🙂 Honestly,
we found nothing to dislike at all !
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Gerhardt (9/5): Great location. Would definitely recommend. - The location was great. So close to the penguin tour and plenty of walking history options. The living area was a little small for three adults but we only stayed one night so it was no issue.
- Theresa (7/5): cute little bungalow in the back yard of owners place. Clean, close to attractions and beach. Bit small so couldn’t spen - close to the beach maybe a little too small
- Dave (10/5): Exceptional -
- Calliope (9/5): Superb - Great location, friendly couple.easy to communicate with.
- Sobiesiak (9/5): Superb -
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional - Cockle Shell was extremely comfortable. The location was excellent. The beach is in close proximity. At night you can hear the waves breaking on the near by beach!! I also tried the owners Chicken and vegetable noodles which were delicious and her Roti parcels were just divine. I will be definitely back again - THERE WAS NOTHING TO DISLIKE -
- Geoffrey (9/5): Superb - Location and friendly locals at the little golf clubhouse No mirror in bedroom. One behind the door would be ideal.
- Lars (9/5): Superb -
- Carol (9/5): Superb - Quiet location, but not too far out of the way of local attractions.
- Dale (10/5): Recommended. will stay again - opposite the historic pilot station and near the penguin parade. Very good location and very comfortable
