Guest Reviews
- pauline (8/5): - could not have breakfast had to leave early..only stayed one night as no-one got back to us to say we could have two,.just one problem, the step down into ensuite a bit dangerous for the elderly as we are otherwise fine. our lunch was great particularly the homemade soup.thankyou
- john (10/5): - Everything was spot on. Great location for exploring the Park.
Accomodation and food excellent.
- Gill (8/5): - Lovely breakfast served by some lovely ladies. Convenient for attractions in Matlock. Parking was an issue but we discovered as we left that there was a village car park which we probably could have used.
- gillian (10/5): Fountain Cafe stay and eat - Ideal location for exploring the Peak District. Lovely quiet pretty little village. The room is above a fabulous cafe where the food was great and the staff were so helpful and informative, they gave us some great tips on where to visit. Highly recommend this place and the cafe.
- Emma (10/5): - Great location in the peaceful village of Bonsall but also close to facilities. Very comfortable room. Breakfast was superb. We’ll be back!
- Mr Keith (4/5): Not what we were expecting - Cannot comment about food or bed comfort as we decided not to stay. At 10.30 in the evening when our adjoining room occupants returned, we could hear every word they were saying! It did not feel very private! We chose the Fountain Tea Rooms because of the good reviews, however, it is on a busy Road junction with a fair amount of traffic and we were also concerned about leaving our car on the road or in the village car park. We booked for 2 nights but no offer of a refund for at least one night. Disappointing.
- Francis (10/5): - Lovely, well-run B&B in a beautiful village
- Tracy (10/5): Great! - Friendly staff, comfy quiet room and great breakfast. Would definitely stay again
- Andrea (10/5): - The room is immaculate, there are nice touches like ground coffee and a french press, first time I have had this even in £500+ a night rooms. There is plenty of free parking on the street outside.
The only thing to be mindful of is that there is a big step both into the room and the bathroom for those with reduced mobility like myself - this is in addition to the 6 steps i was aware of. There is no aircon or fan so we opened the bedroom and bathroom windows and it was fine. Old school air con!
We couldn't connect to the TV with our phones for netflix etc, however in the end we had a quiet night, which was much more relaxing and enjoyable. So this is not a bad thing, switch off, relax and reconnect. Enjoy a quiet country walk instead or chat to your loved one!
I highly recommend the local pubs, especially the Barley Mow but please book if you want one of their amazing pies. Real cider to die for!
Breakfast is between 8am and 11am (checkout time) and this is served in the tea rooms below. There is a good menu and you can get a full english (both vegan and non), or granola if you prefer. Plenty of teas or coffees to choose from. I had the small breakfast plus black pudding and it was more than sufficient, the full breakfast would set you up for a full day's walking without any problem. Staff were very friendly and coffee nice and strong. Having reserved tables was also a bonus.
Overall, I would recommend.
- Julie (10/5): - Friendly staff, warm welcome. Fantastic, comfortable, clean room with lovely, spacious en suite facilities. Lovely food. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, thankyou😊
- Amanda (10/5): - Lovely bed & breakfast. The Tea Room Owner is extremely welcoming and friendly. Shown to a very spacious double room, clean & comfortable. Had a great nights sleep, very comfortable bed. Breakfast was served in the Tea Room, great choice, quality ingredients cooked perfectly. Would highly recommend
- Deborah (10/5): - Lovely room, friendly and helpful owner. Close to attractions in Matlock and beyond but lovely and quiet village.
- Angela (10/5): Relaxing stay. - Exceeded our expectations, location perfect and accommodation had everything needed for a comfortable stay. Loved having breakfast in the tearoom down stairs and the ladies who served us were lovely, friendly and helpful. Our only disappointment was that we stayed Monday night and missed being able to eat in the tearoom as it is closed Mondays. Would certainly hope to visit again and stay longer.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Delightful B&B - Delightful B&B situated in a pretty village.
Friendly helpful staff
off site parking is not a problem
Would certainly visit again
- James (8/5): - Cute little quiet area and relaxing rooms. Would come again for sure. we got an uber to Matlock bath took 5 minutes. Breakfast was amazing. Plenty of street parking outside the b&b thanks

- Robert (10/5): 2 day break - Another great stay keep coming back .well decorated rooms clean tidy well equipped. Warm welcome always good choice of breakfast. Quite location with walks right on the door step. With friendly local pub kings head just up the lane
- Emma (10/5): - Great place to stay in a lovely friendly village. Breakfast was delicious! Many thanks.
- Catherine (10/5): - Good value, comfortable and clean.
Friendly staff and good breakfast.
Nothing to fault it
- Patricia (10/5): - Everything went smoothly with the booking. Staff helpful.
- Michael (10/5): Great stay - Had a lovely stay. Very clean comfortable bed all the facilities were great. Quite location and breakfast was really good in the cafe downstairs.
- Colin (10/5): - Bonsall is a lovely quiet backwater village. Have wanted to spend time here for a while. The Fountain B & B fitted the bill perfectly. Excellent on all counts. The full English breakfast was particularly splendid. Owner really friendly and helpful. Have booked to stay again in a couple of weeks time. Would highly recommend.
- Jonathan (10/5): - Just back from a fantastic overnight stay at Fountain Tea Rooms. Loved it from start to finish. Super comfy room, nicely decorated. Lovely staff in the tea room. Breakfast was awesome. Can't wait to come back
- Susan (10/5): - Fountain Inn was very easy to find, parking was on the road but was easy to find a space nearby. Very quaint small village. Be aware if you arrive late afternoon there is nowhere other than the pub to get anything. The pub is friendly, food ok & at a reasonable price. Tea room was not open on the Monday when we arrived but instructions on how to get to our room were very easy to follow. Our room was the double & was nice, comfortable bed & very large en-suite. Breakfast in the morning was in the tea room downstairs, you pick what you would like from the menu, did not have a long wait & was nicely cooked.
- Gord (10/5): - Everyone is friendly, a good choice for breakfast and everything is very clean. Would come again. Thank you
- Josh (10/5): Quiet village location - Peaceful, quiet location. Lovely tea rooms and stay in twin above.
- Thomas (10/5): - Brilliant place to stay, village people really friendly, you're treated like you'd lived there all your life. Quirky pub up the road serving great food, dead homely.
- Sarah (10/5): Quiet and Relaxing Stay - Lovely B&B. Very accommodating and comfortable.
Breakfast was outstanding and a great variety! Including healthier options which is VERY rare when travelling.
I would DEFINITELY stay here again if in this area and would highly recommend.
- The Haven (10/5): Beautiful decor, location and breakfast - Beautiful bedroom furniture, plenty of tea, de-caffeinated coffee and a cafetière too. Biscuits were lovely. The only minor thing is the mattress was a little less than good. Bathroom great, super clean. View out of the front, beautiful. Sash window could open at least half so lovely fresh air. Breakfast was gorgeous and thoroughly enjoyed. Super super will definitely be back.
- Glenn (8/5): - We found the Fountain a quirky B&B which actually provide breakfast! Our room was a reasonable size with 2 single beds with a view over the fountain. The room was clean and beds comfortable although the stairs up to the room were quite steep and narrow so we left our luggage in the car and only took what was needed for the one night stay.
We had trouble with the shower and would rate this as average.
- R (10/5): Quiet, clean and comfortable - a lovely getaway! - We booked both the rooms so it felt a bit like our own unit to ourselves. The instructions for our arrival were clear, and it was easy to park outside. The rooms are lovely and the bathroom is really well appointed, but we would have liked some hooks to hang the towels and/or any wet clothes, or instructions for the heated towel rail - yes, it rains in Derbyshire! There are lovely walks right from the doorstep, and Bonsall is really near to Cromford and Wirksworth (where we were attending a wedding) as well as Matlock Bath. The village is quiet (this is a positive for us!) and everyone we met was really friendly and welcoming. Breakfast in the popular tearoom downstairs was delightful :) Would recommend.
- R (10/5): Everyone is so friendly! - Really nice rooms in a lovely location in the village of Bonsall. All very clean and comfortable, and very accommodating. Breakfast was taken in the popular tea rooms attached, and it was good!
- Linda (10/5): - Ideal situation for our walk on the limestone way. Clean comfortable and good breakfast following day.
- Kevin (8/5): Mind the drop - Convenient position, great cooked breakfast, walking distance to 2 pubs. Only downside, ensuite is 8 inches lower than room and quiet a step down, need to be careful at night.
- Paul (10/5): Perfect quiet night away in a Peaks village. - Excellent stay in a lovely quiet village in the Peaks. Great breakfast downstairs in the tea rooms. Excellent communications. I'd stay again and hope to again soon.
- Susan (10/5): - Excellent
- Robert (10/5): 2 day stay ideal for chilling - Very pleasant 2 night stay cosy comfortable double room with bath and shower. Everything you needed clean tidy . Friendly welcome good choice of breakfast stayed before will again good value for money
- philip (10/5): Weekend treat - Nice weekend break with my wife fir her birthday
- Jackie (10/5): - Just wonderful!
Fabulous location.
Very helpful and friendly host.
Welcoming locals.
Great walks.
Clean, comfortable room with everything you could possibly need.
Good breakfast included.
Will definitely return.
- Caroline (10/5): - Owners couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. They went the extra mile to ensure we were warm and cosy as snow fell outside!
Wonderfully tasty breakfast
- MOIRA (10/5): - Nicely decorated double room and good bathroom facilities
- Gillian (10/5): - Lovely little B&B the rooms are comfortable and clean. The bathroom and separate shower is superb. Anne who owns it is lovely and can’t do enough for you. Aside from the lovely cooked breakfast in the morning it’s nice to have a cup of tea and a slice of home baked cakes on your return! Highly recommended all round!
- Thomas (10/5): - Brilliant place, clean, smart and great staff, nothing was too much trouble.
- Philip (10/5): Highly recommended. - We stayed just for one night, and was ideal location for visiting peak district. The stay is clean simple accomodation, with a very polite and accomodating host. We visited Chatsworth house which was only about 1/2 hour away. The TV was not a smart TV. Not an issue for us but not so good if netflix etc important to you. Good pub grub at the Kings Head pub, just 5 mins walk away. Big portions though. Could have shared a meal. The attached tea room is where you have your breakfast. Lots of choice - Full breakfast was just the ticket for me. Vegetarian option also available. Personally if we went again I'd get there for 2pm and have one of the many homemade cakes for sale with a cup of tea in the tea room to settle in. I think it closes about 4pm
Nice to have private bath and separate shower.
Overall, really enjoyed everything. Thanks to the owner
- Rosita (10/5): Lovely little B&B - Great little B&B with easy access to The Dales .Room was comfortable with plenty of tea/coffee & toiletries. In a quiet location & the proprietor was very helpful & friendly.Great choice of breakfast enough to set you up for a day of walking. My only niggle was the green emergency light in the room so my advice is to bring a mask . I would definitely come here again
- Steven (8/5): - In Bonsall not Matlock. Loved the village vibe
- Iona (10/5): - Comfortable and homely. Food excellent. Warm welcome from everyone.
- Sarah (10/5): - Had a lovely stay at the Fountain! Perfect room and perfect breakfast. Location was great with some lovely walks around the very pretty village. Thank you, Sarah
- Lisa (8/5): - It was in a quiet village above a lovely tea room with good quality breads and cakes. Gluten free options were great. Would go again.
- Tracy (10/5): - Pleasant staff and service great food and lovely room/bathroom. 10/10 for everything. Only problem is buses not reliable and if you don’t have a car it’s an hour walk(parts uphill) . If you’ve got a car it’s great.
- Jacqui (10/5): - Very nice b&b and fab full English breakfast
- Denise (10/5): - Very nice BnB enjoyed our weekend, would definitely use again if in the area. It is in a pretty village only a few miles down lovely lanes where you can see the surrounding countryside to local historical sites.
- glyn (8/5): good stay at the fountain tea rooms - room was clean with no nasty smells, bed was comfortable, big stain on the carpet outside the bedroom door let the room down a bit, traveled to the two pubs in walking distance, which was most pleasurable.
Full breakfast was nice and plentyfull, staff were very pleasant .
- Sandra (6/5): - It’s a pretty village. This property not too good for anyone with mobility issues. Steep slope to the entrance door, accommodation on first floor and step into the bathroom. Rooms a bit cramped but clean, very good freshly cooked breakfast. Can recommend The Boat in Cromford for great evening meals and friendly service.
- Corrina (10/5): - Beautiful room with lovely view. Exceptionally clean, the bathroom was of a very high standard. Breakfast was lovely.
- Christine (10/5): - Friendly, nice room, great shower, excellent breakfast in the tea room
- Lane (10/5): - Lovely stopover in quaint village. Bath and shower available. Breakfast in Tea Room delicious.
- Brian (10/5): - great place to stay whilst in the area. excellent people and staff with an excellent full english breakfast.
would recommend as all facilities were what we required.
hope to stay again some time.
- James (10/5): - Clean, comfortable room in a beautiful Derbyshire village. Perfect breakfast (tastiest bacon ever!) in the tea room next morning.
- Sonja (10/5): Small but perfectly formed - Wonderful stay in a very clean small but perfectly formed B&B …..if in this area again we would book this place again in a heartbeat.
Overall - breakfast, large, hot and more than enough for most appetites, B&B very clean, room large enough for two adults no problems, the room is warm and we had a great nights sleep
- Barbara (10/5): - It was very good
- Elizabeth (10/5): Ideal location for exploring Matlock and area - A 6 minute drive to the park and ride for illuminations. Parking in front of the b and b which is in a small village. Very clean comfortable room with both bath and shower. Local pub a 4 minute walk with a village shop behind b and b. As this is attached to a tea room excellent breakfast
- Martin (10/5): Lovely B&B - Lovely one night stay at the fountain inn. Nice tea and cake on the patio before checking inn. Room lovely, breakfast great. Loved it.
- Kate (10/5): - Friendly and welcoming staff. Clean , tidy and well presented room and entrance area. Breakfast was amazing and very tasty! The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had separate shower and bath.
The staff were presumably from the village and were polite, friendly and knowledgeable.
I liked the fact that the tearooms were open to the public as well as guests for Breakfast and made for some good conversation.
Must make sure you have your hiking legs on as it is in a valley but is very beautiful and somewhat magical.
- Diane (10/5): - Lovely b&b in small, friendly village… amazing breakfast… large choice n excellent quality
- Katharine (10/5): - The Fountain B&B is very comfortable and serves an excellent breakfast.
- Carol (10/5): - The owner made us very welcome and the room had everything we needed, breakfast was lovely, a great base for travelling around the area
- Tracy (8/5): - A lovely little place, a good find and to support local businesses instead of the larger ops.
Friendly owner and a wonderful breakfast.
Thank you 😀😋
- Dieter (8/5): - Nice and clean apartment. Easy to access via key-box
- Martin (10/5): Excellent - Lovely Double room with king-size bed, shower and bath ensuite. Amazing English breakfast! Would definitely visit again.
- Linda (10/5): - We were greeted when we arrived.Shown to our room. The room was spotless ,nice decor. The only fault was we weren't shown how to use the shower which was quite complicated to use.
- Steven (10/5): - Impeccably clean, extremely comfortable room and delicious breakfast.
- christine (10/5): Enjoyable stay in relaxed area. - It was an extremely friendly stay with nice breakfast and parking outside. Very good bathroom. Lots to visit nearby, we enjoyed the Cascades gardens in the vicinity. Also the cream tea at the Cauldwell Mill was enjoyable.
- paul (10/5): -
Had an excellent weekend stay, situated in a small village just outside Matlock Bath, we stayed in the double room of this property which was spotless clean, couldn’t fault anything, hot water relaxing bath and separate shower, plenty of tea and coffee even filtered coffee in the room, The first day we just had a walk around the village, trying a couple of the local pubs, The next day after breakfast which was again excellent fresh cooked, We had a walk down to Matlock Bath for the day, All the staff are friendly and helpful will definitely stay here again next time in the area
- Thomas (10/5): - Can thoroughly recommend the tearomm b and b , very clean , comfortable and welcoming , staff were very helpful and nothing too much trouble to them and breakfast was lovely .
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This property fails on so many levels. Despite the description it is not in Matlock and it is not strictly a B and B it is a room above a tea room in the middle of nowhere! We arrived about 5.30 ( not exactly an unearthly hour ) to find the property deserted and locked up. Only by close examination of the email did we establish we needed a code to access a key in a wall safe. Then we were confronted with a number of doors to figure out. Steep stairs , certainly not suited to my disabled wife then into our room. There is a deep step into the en-suite which has no warning sign and my wife stumbled on said step. The toilet seat is loose and wobbly - that needs to be fixed. Breakfast was rather late to suit the business certainly not us ! No dedicated parking so our expensive car had to sit out in a most unsuitable location.
In certainly not worth £105 and I will be earning future prospective clients.
- Jonathan (10/5): - Just wot we wanted a very nice clean room good shower and a quiet accommodation. Breakfast was very nice would stay again being to far to walk to matlock wasnt a issue
- Trevor (10/5): Great place to stay - Lovely room with amazing bathroom, great location and friendly folk. Great pubs in the village
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very clean comfortable room. Lovely friendly and helpful staff. Overall a very pleasant stay and we will return.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cosy stay with great breakfast - Nicer than the photos - the double has a huge bathroom with separate rainfall shower and bath. Quality coffee and tea. Beautiful quiet village nestled in hidden valley with lots of local walks. Tea shop is downstairs and food is gorgeous. You will hear shop open from 8:30 as it's below the room. Annoying emergency light on ceiling not good for light sleepers but absolute quiet at night.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely comfortable room, big bathroom and staff were helpful and polite.
- Cheryl (10/5): Delicious veggie breakfast - Really enjoyed the breakfasts - veggie option included vegetarian sausages and halloumi. Stayed in the double room with king size bed, generous hot drinks tray and large bathroom. Very nicely decorated and very clean. Found it easy to park on the road outside. Staff very friendly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The silence. No traffic noise. Picturesque. Very nice food, breakfast substantial, we didn't eat again all day. Spotlessly clean.
- Kath (10/5): Would not hesitate to recommend - Lovely room above an excellent tea room serving delicious home made food. Would definitely recommend.
- Jason (10/5): o - Enjoyed a very nice overnight stay at the weekend with my wife. Communication prior to the visit was very good and we received a very warm welcome. The room was comfortable and breakfast was delicious next morning. Ideal for a short stay in what is a beautiful small village with a couple of decent bars and close proximity to Matlock.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely accommodation, hosts, food, village, all the locals were very friendly 👌
