Guest Reviews
- Sjoukjeo (10/5): Beautiful house, extremely kind hosts, high quality food, a superb 'Scottish' experience - Everything was superb - the hosts Eric and Lynda, the location, the house itself with its very Scottish atmosphere, the home-made food, the suuroundings! It's beautiful there and it allows you to experience the best of Scotland. There was no downside. The only downside is that they'll be retiring so this accommodation is no longer available. We're happy to have had the chance to experience it!
- Thomas (8/5): Very good -
- Caroline (10/5): Excellent cosy and comfortable with brilliant breakfast. - Quietness, comfort, breakfast menu, close to ammeneties Nothing
- Terence (9/5): Very warm welcome, very comfortable and good location for local scenery. - Good location for sightseeing the west side of the Cairngorms. We stayed in the apartment which was well presented, comfortable and warm. Ideal for two persons for an extended stay. It also had 'disability access' features which we needed.
- Netta (10/5): Exceptional - A warm welcome, a wonderful hospitality,
Breakfast was perfect
We received all the information needed
The room was cozy
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mal (10/5): It was an excellent place to base ourselves to explore the Cairngorms area and rest up. - Excellent and more than we needed. Nothing
- Beverley (10/5): Exceptional - Everything about the D.H. is exceptional. This is a quiet location on the edge of the village. There are easy walking trails and local eateries 10 mins walk. The rooms are tastefully decorated with unique touches. Our bed was comfortable and the shower and bathroom spacious. Breakfast is served in the lovely dinning room. The menu is fabulous. The baked eggs and Eric's porridge were a particularly favourite. Also Eric bakes his own bread. Well, I've left the best till last. Hosts Lynda and Eric are lovely warm people with a great sense of humour. Nothing is too much trouble Eric also offers a chauffeur service. We were sad to leave as it felt like leaving family. Lynda is also a talented seamstress, take a look around at the Harris Tweed decor. You can also buy some of her pieces in the local shops. Had to leave.
- Brownlie (10/5): Excellent - Eric and Lynda could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Would definitely stay again. Thanks you Eric and Lynda Nothing
- Jeffrey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rocco (10/5): A Highland Gem - My stay at Dower House Bed & Breakfast in Newtonmore was truly exceptional. Owners Lynda and Eric welcomed me with homemade cake and tea upon arrival, setting the tone for their remarkable hospitality throughout my visit.
What makes this place special is how they treat guests like family. I genuinely felt like their son rather than a customer. The cozy accommodation included thoughtful touches like an electric blanket, homemade cakes and tea & coffee making facilities, perfect after long days in the mountains.
The culinary experience was outstanding. Not just Lynda's homemade cakes but Eric's breakfasts offered a refreshing alternative to typical B&B fare, exactly what I needed for my hiking adventures.
The location strikes the perfect balance: peaceful and quiet, yet with excellent access to the surrounding mountains and countryside. For outdoor enthusiasts exploring the Scottish Highlands, you couldn't ask for a better base.
Dower House isn't just accommodation; it's a warm, welcoming home away from home that creates lasting memories. For anyone visiting Newtonmore and the Highlands, I cannot recommend it highly enough! I liked everything 🙂

The room was spacious & comfortable - larger than expected.
The hosts Eric & Lynda. were quirky, but in a very nice way.
The breakfasts were exceptional, with Eric's homemade bread & dishes which far exceeded the usual breakfast fare.
We had an evening meal which was also wonderful.
Tip... If you're into sewing, ask for a look at Lynda's lovely sewing room. Absolutely nothing
- Sam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Warren (10/5): Great accommodation and would recommend. - Excellent hosts, very clean accommodation, food was lovely, enjoyed the breakfast each day and the cake and scones on arrival were fantastic.
Nice little touch to have cake in the room as well.
Location was very good.
- Thoolhoo (10/5): A gateway to the Cairngorms, excellent location, wonderful hosts. - A fantastic base of operations for exploring the Cairngorms. Conveniently located only 30 mins drive from Aviemore, 40 mins from Pitlochry, and just a few minutes from the foot of the Monadhliath Mountains — a great empty area of wilderness to the north of Newtonmore perfect for practicing orienteering or just getting a rest from the crowds.
There is a hotel in the village where you can get food and a few pints after a long day on the hills, as well as a truck stop that also does food. There is a little Co-op in the village also to stock up on food, alcohol, tobacco, etc.
Dower House itself is an old manor house beautiful inside and out. There is a lounge filled with books and board games, in case the weather turns and you need to stay in for the day.
The hosts are all round wonderful people. We felt extremely welcome and, frankly, I don't understand other reviewers who are annoyed by the fact that they were told to take their boots off. It's just common sense. Muddy mountain equipment stays outside. We never felt inconvenienced.
There is an option to get breakfast in the morning and the hosts also make lunch and dinner on order. I highly recommend this option as the food is top quality and beautifully prepared. Our one regret is that we haven't tried more dinners. We still talk about the Sunday roast and how delicious it was with the wine and berry jus.
To conclude, a convenient location ran by wonderful humans. Highly recommended. n/a
- Marek (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jeffery (10/5): Exceptional - We had the BEST stay at the Dower House! It is a beautiful property, and Eric and Lynda were terrific hosts - helpful and very warm. They had great suggestions for hikes and drives, and really helped us make the most of our stay. Also, the breakfasts were phenomenal. Eric bakes his own bread, and the cooked breakfasts have a personal touch that I haven't seen anywhere else. To anyone visiting the Highlands, I would highly recommend staying at the Dower House. We will certainly return!
- Georgina (10/5): Heaven in the highlands :) - Best bnb we’ve ever stayed in. Warm hospitality at its finest!
- Nandor (10/5): This is a place worth returning to. - We got what we asked for. Very friendly, family environment. Free parking. Stunning scenery. The local restaurant is close by. Delicious, locally prepared breakfast.
- Silvia (10/5): Best B&B experience we´ve had - It´s hard not to fall in love with this place and its owners. They are so welcoming and they absolutely spoil you with their delicious food and hospitality. We got great advice on scenic walks and places to visit. It has been the best B&B experience we´ve had by far Absolutely nothing
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts Lynda and Eric went above and beyond to make our stay so easy and enjoyable. They provided not only excellent breakfasts but a wonderful dinnner that we could enjoy with our aunt who lives locally and is very elderly.
The room is very spacious and comfortable, with great attention to detail and providing extras to enjoy, including homemade fudge and ginger slices. The bathroom was large and modern. A wonderful stay. We not only recommend it extremely highly but intend to return as soon as we can. Everything was wonderful
- Huw (10/5): Best breakfast in Scotland!! - Great room, great breakfast, lovely hosts. Nothings
- Bernard (8/5): Very good - Rooms were amazing , attention to detail in the rooms were second to none , no tv but no problem in this area of the world plenty of activities to do such as quad biking and ziplining up the road in addition to the highland folk museum:) lynda and Eric are just the best hosts! Lynda made the curtains in the rooms and the quality was amazing, and Eric’s breakfasts are out of this world, myself and my partner thought the place was amazing 🤩 and would def stay here again if back around the Cairngorms Nothing
- Lorna (10/5): Exceptional - Cleanliness
- Stefanie (10/5): Absolute recommendation! - Due to the good reviews here, we already had high expectations - which were definitely met and exceeded! We were greeted very nicely with delicious cake and tea, the room was very clean, new and yet really cosy. There were lots of great extras such as electric blankets. The breakfast was the best we had on our Scottish holiday (and maybe ever on a holiday) - every request was catered for. They were very knowledgeable about the area and gave us lots of useful tips for things to do and places to eat. Everything is really thought of here: a thousand thanks!

- Suebythesea (10/5): Great Stay - Everything, especially the bed!
- Marco (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was amazing, and the hosts super nice and friendly!
- Parker (9/5): Too much food - The house is beautiful and the room was spacious and very nicely decorated. The bathroom was modern with a big shower. Everything was spotlessly clean. The food was of a high standard. Beautiful surroundings, lots of greenery. Afternoon tea on arrival was really appreciated. There was too much food for me. I hate waste but found myself struggling to eat everything. I found it a bit overwhelming. Lynda has a very strong personality and has lots of rules. No shoes in the house, must keep the doors locked except when you shouldn't keep the doors locked. A huge questionnaire to fill in for breakfast. I felt on edge the whole time thinking I was going to do something wrong, like a naughty child who doesn't finish their dinner! Not the most relaxing of stays.
- Alastair (9/5): Excellent, Newtonmore is a good location with shops, pubs, station, buses . - Comfortable room, good quality bed, sheets and towels. Warm and clean, spacious. Interesting old building. Good location. Easy parking. No tv in room, although there is a large lounge room available.
- Rhiannon (10/5): A wonderful stay and will use again when coming back to area. - Loved the comfort, facilities, homely touches, welcome and of course the breakfasts. Leaving!
- Lilo (10/5): Exceptional - The breakfast was just wonderful! Everything was prepared with care and in excellent quality. The breakfast/dining room has a huge table, and you get into contact with the other guests without a big fuzz. It is very enjoyable.
The shower in the bathroom is very spacious, and all of the Interieur is selected both for good comfort and style . Dower House should be a national treasure .
We also had dinner there one night during our stay, and I would recommend any guest to do the same. It was simple delicious
Lynda and her husband Eric are wonderful hosts and make you feel welcome and at home.
I could go on endlessly, but it will be better if you come and find out for yourselves.
We will definitely stay there again, hopefully already next year.
Thank you very much, Lynda and Eric!

- Sophie (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful hosts in a beautiful setting. Enjoyed sitting in the garden indulging in the home-baking with cup of tea.
- J (10/5): What a memorable stay! We will come back again. - We enjoyed our stay at the Dower House B&B in Newtonmore a very great deal. Lydna truly was a darling of a host. She served us a very calming English afternoon tea with very delicious cakes in the beautifully decorated living room shortly after we settled in. The upstairs room we stayed in was well adorned and equipped. The comfortable bed even came with an electric blanket ready for the Highlands night. The breakfast was really refreshing, delicious, and substantial. Before our arrival, Lynda went out of her way to alert us to the annual Highland Games in Newtonmore that would take place just a mere four-minute walk away from their home. We decided to alter our itinerary a little in order to attend the first half of the festivities. Whoa! What a wonderful cultural experience that was! We can't thank Lydna (and Eric) enough for their thoughtfulness and hospitality. We highly recommend the Dower House B&B.
- Daniela (10/5): Wonderful stay in a beautiful home - The B&B is owned by two wonderful people, Lynda and Eric! their home is very inviting and homey. The breakfast was excellent. Our room was big and the bed super comfortable. The location right outside Newtonmore is great! We will most definitely be back!! Nothing
