Guest Reviews
- Donna (10/5): The Game Cock is incredible! Every moment showed their passion for high quality customer service. - Food was exceptional, ingredients were fresh and flavours were popping!! Staff were so friendly and accommodating. Our room was clean, comfortable, the shower was incredible!! A fantastic weekend away, highly recommend to stay here! The room was very warm, even when heating was turned down.
- Steve (9/5): A perfect short break - Friendly welcoming staff. Great breakfast. We love Austwick and we enjoyed a lovely evening meal here. Free snacks and drinks in room. Room space quite tight. Duvet too warm for me.
- FPUY1981 (7/5): It's still a decent place, but it has gone down in quality and service - - Location is excellent, peaceful village with beautiful views
- Very nice pub, with a beautiful bakery and good food
- Lots of free goodies in room mini fridge
- Very generous breakfast, and the bakery produce is excellent. - A specific member of the bar staff was very rude when we came downstairs for our dinner booking, rushing us to order only 10 minutes after our reservation time as they were "very busy". Not good attitude in front of our children either. This is a shame as it put a dampener to our whole stay and overall experience, but worth mentioning the owner was always nice and attentive.
- When we checked in, we waited 15 minutes at the bar for someone to show us to our room, and the bunk beds for the children had not even been made. This was not an early check-in, worth mentioning...
- Quality of food and drink has gone down, Nescafe instant coffee for breakfast doesn't match the quality of the rest of the food.
- Restaurant portion sizes are on the small side.
- Thomas (9/5): -

- Richard (10/5): Great family business, great food -
- Martin (8/5): Special Place. - The three courses of sunday lunch, breakfast and bakery were all exceptional. The kitchen, bar and front of house were all friendly, fun and faultless. Our second visit and we will return. Certainly the best food, welcome and hospitality in Austick. Great location in the Dales. The rooms above are all welcoming, clean and well appointed. Only the mattress a little uncomfortable for me, but those things are personal choice.
- Susan (10/5): -

- joanne (10/5): Brilliant place to stay in the Dales, food excellent, staff lovely, rooms perfect xx - Excellent food, highly recommend

- Laura (9/5): Pub and a patisserie in Yorkshire! - A lovely, welcoming spot - the staff were excellent, the breakfast was delicious and the room was cosy. A very dog friendly spot too! We chose to have dinner in the pub on both nights, taking advantage of the burger and steak nights they had on! Oh, and there's an on site patisserie which we didn't appreciate but most definitely took advantage of Our room was on the smaller side but it was exceptional value with the staff, food and location. The only thing we should have mentioned was that the windows didn't open which meant it was quite warm in the room!
- Dave (10/5): -
- James (9/5): Warm and friendly place to stay and eat in Austwick - Lovely, cosy pub in beautiful village. Good reasonably priced food. Bakery on site with great croissants, etc! Nothing
- Selcuk (10/5): Excellent location for a little stay in Yorkshire. - It was exceptional. Dave who was in charge was very informative about everything including fire escape routes, assembly points and all the other facilities. He has been working very hard to make sure everyone got good service. Our room with good view was big, comfortable and clean. Good value for money. We would highly recommend. We've had no complaints.
- Christina (8/5): Great catch up with friends - Friendly proper pub Nothing
- Zahida (7/5): - I had to leave early and could not stay for breakfast. I was given some food to take away with me I thought the room was a tad expensive. It was fairly small
- Ben (10/5): Really well looked after on our walking trip- had a great time. Ben -
- Carol (10/5): Fabulous food and wonderful location - Food was exceptional
- Rachel (9/5): -
- Keiron (10/5): Great stay in a proper pub with a French twist. - Great food and good selection of beers. The staff are excellent very welcoming and helpful. Rooms are comfortable and spacious. Parking is on the road but there is plenty of space so only a very minor note.
- Andrew Deakin (10/5): Excellent food, comfy room and lovely staff. - Our evening meal was delicious and made even more special by the excellent live folk music coming from the room next door. The breakfast was wonderful. Fresh ingredients and beautiful setting. Nothing.
- Dunbottle (10/5): We stayed at the Game Cock Inn for a short two-night break. - Lovely cooked breakfast. Fresh Greek yogurt and fresh berries available Nothing
- Peter (10/5): Excellent stay at a pub and restaurant with great food and staff. - Very nice pub restaurant in a small village close to Settle. Food was excellent, staff were great and rooms clean and comfortable. The bakery on site makes excellent bread and cakes and walks around the village are numerous. Nothing, all was really good.
- Evgenii (10/5): One of the best stays we ever had - One of the best stays we ever had. Super friendly team (special thanks to Dave!), finger-licking steak and food overall, great communication and very kind surprise for the birthday of my wife. Would love to come again!
The location is fantastic, with numerous hiking trails close by and large flocks of sheep right outside the door.
You should definitely EAT at their restaurant. There was really nothing that bothered us. The only minor thing was the quite narrow staircase (still, was not a problem at all with our carry-on + 2 backpacks) - and in a B&B like this that should be expected.
- Stewart (9/5): - Dinner and breakfast exceptional. Really friendly and helpful staff. Not a dislike, but we had the smallest room left, but it was only one night, so there was no issue.
- Phil (10/5): -
- Patrick (10/5): Would like to stay longer ! - Traditional village pub in gorgeous countryside. Food exceptional. Bedroom and bathroom very up to date and comfortable.
- Ava (8/5): -
- Mary (9/5): -
- Karen (9/5): Perfect weekend to unwind and relax - Had a great weekend. The bar had a lovely atmosphere in the afternoon with a very cheerful and friendly barman on duty.
Evening meal and breakfast were really good too. The weekend went too fast
- Ian (9/5): - All aspects of the stay were excellent. The snacks in the room were a nice touch. There was nothing that I could fault.
- Kate (9/5): Brilliant friendly pub with great food and service. - Excellent stay - friendly welcoming pub with a great atmosphere and great food - French chef to thank for that all at very reasonable prices. This is probably our third stay and we will no doubt be back. The restaurant area was a bit chilly especially at breakfast time.
Also, a softer choice of pillow would improve the sleeping experience.
- Robert (10/5): - It’s a great place to stay, the kitchen does shut early however we knew this and ate before arrival,
The staff are brilliant, was walk in g the three peaks so would miss breakfast, they ensured we had something to take with us, and the pastries are wonderful.
- Sammy P (10/5): Absolutely amazing - Had a great 1 nigjt stay the place is lovely and good is amazing, we was doing the Y3P early fhe next morning so location was perfect, and they even packed us up a continental breakfast for us. Highly recommended Nothing
- Geraint (10/5): Fantastic place to stay and eat - We can’t wait to return - the Game Cock was wonderful. It’s a lovely village pub and a very comfortable hotel and an excellent restaurant all rolled into one, and as an added bonus they also have a French-style patisserie selling delicious pastries and cakes. Nothing at all
- Silver (8/5): First-class - The accommodation was absolutely fine, but the food prepared by the French chef was in my opinion Michelin star standard. First-class food, wine and service. Nothing
- Kathryn (9/5): -
- Alastair (4/5): Disappointing for the price - Nice location, friendly staff, some things nicely done in the room Room was stiflingly hot, no AC and no fans, couldn't open window much either as it was noisy outside and there was a spotlight right by it so loads of bugs. Main bed was comfy but sofa bed for the little one was an implement of torture. Offered us a packed breakfast as we had to leave at the crack of dawn, which was lovely. They then didn't deliver though, which was not. And this all cost over £150...
- Marie (9/5): Would return again, lovely relaxed ambience and delicious food. - Evening meal excellent. A good choice and home cooked. Different from the same old offerings put out by gastropubs. Bread at breakfast disappointing given the offer a bakery shop. Coffee just about ok.
- Diane (10/5): -
- Irene (10/5): Very enjoyable stay would definitely recommend . - We stayed here with our friends both of us took our dogs .
The property is situated in a good position. Plenty of walks around the area .
We went for a day to trip from the station at settle to Carlisle .
The staff were very friendly would highly recommend. Rooms very hot .
- Mark (8/5): -
- Joseph (9/5): Superb -
- Jamie (8/5): Very good -
- Russell (7/5): Good stay - Location and quality of food size of room - not luxurious as advertised
- Jane (9/5): Superb -
- Amelia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gemma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bish (10/5): Exceptional B&B - The**⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolute Perfection – A Hidden Gem!**
My stay at The Game Cock Inn was nothing short of magical! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that made us feel right at home. The property is beautifully maintained, blending charm and comfort effortlessly.
Our family room was immaculate, cozy and thoughtfully decorated with lovely little touches—Fridge generously stocked , luxurious linens, and even a . The en-suite bathroom was spotless.
The breakfast and Evening meal **Exceptional!** we were treated to a delicious homemade meal made with fresh, local ingredients. The hosts went above and beyond to accommodate dietary preferences, and each dish was presented with care.
What truly set this B&B apart was the personal attention and kindness of the owners. The location was perfect—quiet and peaceful yet close enough to explore the area.
I cannot recommend this Inn highly enough. If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway with outstanding hospitality, look no further. We will definitely be back!
- Harry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Raymond (10/5): a lovely break - friendly helpful staff, very good evening meal and breakfast. really good location. a topnotch bakery attached to the pub
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff and great food
- Richard (10/5): Perfect!! - This place is a delight! In the heart of the quiet and totally charming Dales village of Austwick, GameCock is an absolute gem! We stayed just one night but dinner, breakfast, room and staff were faultless. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful, and we can’t wait to come back! Oh, and the homemade patisserie cakes were stunning! Well done to Maree, Eric and the rest of the team!! Nothing!!
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Derek (8/5): Our stay was very enjoyable and we would definitely return after the experience we had. - The rooms were very comfortable although the beds were a bit narrow and bouncy. The food in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast was excellent and could not be faulted. A special mention for the staff who were very pleasant and helpful despite being under a lot of pressure as they were so busy. The bar area was quite small which made it difficult to find seating as it was very busy which also resulted in dirty glasses piled up on the bar as clearly the lady serving was under extreme pressure and finding it difficult to cope. Despite this she remained very calm and did her very best to satisfy the customers. so full marks to her.
- Jackie (10/5): Outstanding - Excellent breakfast cooked to order
- Nicola (8/5): Very good -

- Emma (8/5): Very good -
- Claire (10/5): Would stay again. - Good location. Very friendly staff. Couldn’t do enough for us. We were up early to do the Yorkshire three peaks and would therefore miss breakfast, so the young man in charge let us choose a pastry. Very comfortable room and great shower.
- Jacqueline (9/5): Pre Pennine Way stat - Friendly welcome from staff. Lovely pub, good food, nice beer garden. Village is very pretty Noisy neighbours in room next door, up at 5.30am and chattering non stop. Not the pub's fault but perhaps a polite note in rooms for early risers to consider other guests
- Szilvia (8/5): Very good - The food was exceptional, a bit unnecessarily so. Some of the staff was a but rude, and the place is overhyped and overpriced.
