- Linda (9/5): Great experience in a traditional Japanese house! - Great position, very quiet neighborhood. The house is beautiful and very cozy, with all the amenities. I particularly enjoyed the living room and the double wc, very useful if you're traveling in a group, and the futon beds.
The bathroom is stunning with the garden view.
Great communication with the host. The cleaning could be done with a little more accuracy, especially in the bathroom and bath tub, and I was a little disappointed by the absence of sleeping wear.
- stefania (10/5): Cozy and relaxing place - Comfortable for a family of 4 It would be nice to find bath salt since there is a nice bathtub and pajamas
- Arlene (10/5): - Property is in very accessible location. Close to well known temples and shops. Inside property is clean with convenient amenities.
- Lise (8/5): Beautiful traditional house with all modern comforts in Gion - We loved everything about this beautiful house. The traditional tatami room was spacious and serene, with access to a pretty little private garden. The bedrooms were large and comfortable, and the two WCs were convenient for our family of four. The kitchen had everything we needed. The best feature, however, was the onsen-equipped bathroom. It was gorgeous, with a view of the garden.
The location was perfect, just a three minute walk to the subway station, though we were only a ten-minute walk along a canal from the centre of Gion and other main sites were also within walking distance so we rarely used public transportation. Some surfaces were a little dusty, but bathroom, WCs and kitchen were spotless.
There is no storage to unpack your suitcases, so a little awkward when staying more than a few days.
- Cullen (9/5): Superb - It was so fun staying in a traditional home. There was a lot of space to store our luggage in the entryway, and the host was able to set up an additional bed for us. We were very close to the Gion neighborhood and it was easy to get around. The house is in an alley, but our taxis had no problem picking or dropping us off on the side street next to it. The room downstairs was a little cold, and the bathroom was very cold as well. It is the winter, but an option to heat the bathroom before bathing would be nice.
- Claudia (10/5): Live like a local in Kyoto in a beautiful house - Loved everything. great location - close enough to walk to Gion and Sanjo but nice to be away from the crowds. It had the most amazing bath overlooking a beautiful garden. It was really nice to take a break from hotels and be in a Japanese house.
- Phuong (10/5): Amazing stay, really spacious, love the bath tub. Prices is affordable. Little hard to find if you don’t read instructio - Spacious, well equipped, bathtub Nothing
- Philip (7/5): Good - Good location, good size, amazing bathtub Air conditioner kept turning itself off and on.
House had a weird smell, it smelled like a pet shop, got used to the smell after a while though
- Lian (8/5): Very good - Very nice area close to the train station, busy areas of Gion, but in a more residential feeling neighborhood. It was a unique experience to stay in a small traditional Japanese house. The house was clearly cleaned and maintained, but it was a little bit old and there were some ants (they didn't bother us too much, but just to note)
- Natalie (8/5): Overall a pleasant stay - Overall a clean and tidy place, atmosphere pretty cozy. Location wise, quiet area and close to the station bout 5-10 min walk. Very good communication, quick response and accommodating. Kitchen area was quite small - no space to chop but shouldn't matter if you are not cooking - we had to make baby food which was a wee challenging. Futon's were quite thin so not such a comfortable sleep.
- Silke (10/5): Exceptional - What a lovely place to stay. Very clean, quite, friendly contact and easy check-in and check-out. Also the location was perfect. We definately would love to come back. -
- Hong (10/5): Exceptional - Great home with nice design. So comfortable and near center. The scenearys around home’re so beautiful. Absolutely recommend. I’ll be back one day. Thank you
- Wai (9/5): Happy stay. - The hostel is close to metro station. The house has 2 toilets and 1 bathroom which is very convenient for a big group. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Very minor thing: The tray for putting the hair dryer was dusty.
- Catharine (9/5): Superb -
- Ireneusz (9/5): Superb -
- Raquel (10/5): Wonderful Japanese experience with the family in Kyoto - Beautiful Japanese style house with all the amenities we needed. The bath was a highlight and my children had wonderful memories in the house. Located in a tranquil area but close to all we needed and 5m walk to bus and train stations, easy to reach even with suitcases and children . Instructions on how things in the house worked and directions were given in a booklet which came in handy. We had issues with an appliance and the communication with the host was brilliant, very considerate, they came to us on the same day to help and solved problems. For some reason taxi drivers had a difficult time finding the house, so I would suggest having the instructions given by the host handy if you take taxi first thing from Kyoto station. They always get into a wrong street. Once you know where the house is it’s easy, you can ask them to drop you off where you know it’s right.
- Siridao (10/5): Exceptional - The property is in good location, close to bus stop and train station. It is in the residential and beautiful area. none
- Katherine (9/5): Huge bath with a view! - The location.
The big bath.
Clean.
Toothbrushes, hairbrushes provided. Hard beds and husk pillows.
- Parks (10/5): Lovely home on a beautiful road. - This house is beautiful and on what is now my favorite street in Kyoto. The area is great and it was so nice to be able to pretend for a few days like we live here. The house had both japanese and western beds, and the ac worked super well! We got to meet a couple of the neighbors and they were super nice and welcoming of us even though we were foreigners. Absolutely loved our time here. Highly recommend! Nothing, it was perfect!
- Dana (8/5): Very good - Good for 2 families Just a little far on foot in very hot weather to the local sites we wanted but it is still a good location.
- Daphne (10/5): Dream place to stay in Kyoto! - If you want to live your dream of living in a traditional house, this is the place to be! Just wonderful! Everything was just perfect!
- Lauren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Celine (1/5): Bad - Good location Dishonest owner.
Difficult to communicate with (never available by phone, only once a day by mail).
First it was very difficult to get the information to enter the house which was an self chek in.
After, when we entered the house had not been cleaned from the previous guests !!! It was dirty everywhere.
The landlord said the housekeeper would come in the afternoon but when we arrived at night, she hadn't come.
We had to do the cleaning of the house ourselves and change the sheets.
The landlord said that he would refund the first night through booking.
When we asked booking after our return home, they asked to the landlord who refused and said that as an excuse that the sheets where not clean after we left which is completely untrue.
They lied.
AVOID THIS PLACE ABSOLUTELY !!
- Martin (9/5): Superb -
- Victor (10/5): Feel as at home in Kyoto! - Amazing place to be in Kyoto! The building is located in a quiet but centrical neighborhood. The house is comfortable, everything is prepared to make you feel as home, the bath is great. It's really clean and the check in is really easy. I don't understand why people write about problems with the check in.
Thanks so much and I hope to be back again!! Nothing about the place.
I don't understand why people is not respectful about taking care of the house interior. There were some scratches in the floor because people doesn't take care with their shoes or suitcases...
- Servatius (9/5): Nice and quiet neighbourhood. Wonderful stay overall! - good location. walkable to everywhere. nice neighbourhood wi-fi connection is slow.
- Raphaelle (10/5): Great place and great price ! - The place was very clean with all amenities needed. The bathtub is just amazing, we were looking forward to take a bath every night!
The location is also very good, in a quiet neighborhood far from the road, but close to the bus and train stations. I think this place is great for a family or a group of friends to stay for a few days. I think that the instructions are a bit difficult to understand for non Japanese speakers (regarding the bathtub and wifi). I saw someone who downvoted this place because there was no wifi, but there was a wifi routeur, it was just a bit hard to find at first.
It would be great if there can be more explanations for non-Japanese speakers.
