Guest Reviews
- Pooja (8/5): - Clean traditional two storey home - with a lovely tiny zen garden at the back that renders beauty and openness. Location was good - 5 mins drive from Kyoto station (or a 20 min walk). The shower was small - but excellent water volume and pressure that made for a satisfying hair wash. The best part however was a premium coffee shop literally next door - serving gourmet coffee, amazing matcha, and great crepes!

- Tomasz (9/5): - Bath on open air and that you can choose how you want sleep All was good
- Elliott (10/5): - Great place to stay in Kyoto!
- Emilie (10/5): - We loved staying here on our honeymoon! We were visiting from Canada. We had plenty of space and loved using the outdoor bath! It was basically a private onsen. The tatami mats in the living room and upstairs made our experience very special. The hosts were very kind and communicative as well. The location was nice and quiet, just off a main street with lots of delicious restaurants and transportation to get around easily to tourist destinations. Highly recommend for a special Kyoto experience! We would love to stay here again and will recommend to all our friends.

- Catherine (9/5): Beautiful traditional Japanese home in the heart of Kyoto. - Beautiful traditional Japanese home in the heart of Kyoto. Lovely outdoor bath and traditional setting with paper screens and tatami mats. Great location near the aquarium, railway museum and lots of eating places. Right by a mainline bus stop.
- Alissa (8/5): Lovely feel saying in a Japanese home - Loved staying in a Japanese style house and having a more traditional home. Didn’t like the floor beds they were uncomfortable.
- Tori (10/5): - Great traditional Japanese ryokan. Great area with park and food near by. Only 20 min taxi to shrines and temples. The outside onsen was sugoi!

- Li (2/5): We did not stay at this property when we first entered the house. It gave us a very unpleasant feeling and the stairs to - My group of friends got cheated by the pictures The toilet have stinky smell and the bathroom was separated to in and out door

- Dmitrii (10/5): Exceptional -
- Traveler (8/5): Charming traditional place near train station. - Charming traditional place in walking distance from train station (15-20 min). Lovely outdoor bathtub. We bought some knives, because there was only one.
- Juliet (10/5): Charming stay in a traditional machiya house - It was such a joy and a privilege to stay in a real (but updated!) Machiya house. It was so beautiful and authentic inside. We loved the traditional dining room and the little rock garden, and the beds were so comfortable. The location was great - so close (about 7 min walk) to Umekoji-Kyotonishi train station (1 stop to Kyoto station, on the line for Arashiyama), or 20 mins walk to Kyoto station. 2 convenience stores a few mins walk away, and you can get direct buses to Gion and other tourist spots.
Checking in and out was easy. Just a perfect stay. Being a traditional house, there was very little surface space in the kitchen; no oven or toaster (just a hotplate and microwave); no storage space for clothes/luggage; and no comfy sofa (we watched TV on the floor in the dining room). It was a bit inconvenient having the toilet and bathroom in separate rioms downstairs. But we were happy to live with these small inconveniences for the machiya experience.
- Lindsay (10/5): Exceptional - Spacious and comfortable. Loved the outdoor bath. Good communication with host. None
- Harriet (9/5): Superb -
- Callum (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mary (8/5): Very good - It was an overall great xperience staying in a Ryokan Japanese traditional house, like the outdoor bath and tatami floor. The house was clean and spacious. It has most of the amenities you need, except for an iron (couldn't find it). AC was in each room. Although the tatami floor is a unique experience, it just wasn't for us, especially during a long period of stay (considering bad backs and shoulders). The stairs are steep so you have to be careful going down. As it is a traditional Japanese house, tall people have to be cautious in case they hit their heads on the door frames. Lastly, we didn't like the pillows as they only gave one on each bed and were almost square shaped and were not soft and comfy.
- Oscar (10/5): Beautiful Kyoto home - Beautiful place, definitely would recommend over a hotel when visiting Kyoto. Easy to walk to attractions
- Matěj (10/5): Exceptional - Very beautiful traditional japanese house. Close to bus stop and Kyoto station.
- Benjamae (10/5): Wonderful place to stay in Kyoto - Everything was absolutely wonderful. Very easy to check in and out. So comfortable and the location is great
- Suzanne (8/5): Very good - Traditional stay. Stairs where noisy.
- Imelda (9/5): It was fabulous and we would come back again - The bed was super comfortable and the place was very clean. It was near the public bus that takes you to Kyoto station n next door was a coffee place that sells amazing crepes. There was no dryer
- Yong (9/5): Very enjoyable stay in a traditional Japanese home - Very spacious traditional Japanese home with a small rock garden and 2 bedrooms. The tatami room has a Japanese table and seat cushions perfect for planning the next destination with your friends. AC unit in every room that kept us warm during the winter season. There are 2 full beds in the first bedroom and the second bedroom can accommodate 2 futons. The kitchen had all the appliances that you need to make your own meal if you choose to do so. If you have a JR Pass, the nearest JR station is only 7-10 minutes walk away and you can get to Kyoto station in 1 stop. The 2 bedrooms are on the second floor which makes using the toilet very troublesome at night as the stair case is very steep. There is an exit sign that lights up facing the beds and it get bothersome at night. You can close the sliding door to block the light but this door does not close smoothly and makes a lot of noise... this can be very loud in the middle of the night and we have woken people up because of it. The bathroom door that leads to the garden does not need to be a glass door, a bit more privacy would be appreciated because the neighbor's balcony is in line of sight. The seat cushions were a bit smelly.
- Ahmad (10/5): the best place to stay in kyoto - everything nothing
- Marie-hélène (9/5): good location for a family - good location to be with a family as it is near the aquarium and train museum.
