Guest Reviews
- Audra (4/5): - The check in instructions weren’t very clear and we found out from the maintenance person, Fransisco that the owner was out of the country. Before we found him I had called five times to the numbers provided and each time was sent to a voicemail that wasn’t set up or was greeted with a voicemail that quite bluntly said “don’t leave a voicemail send an email to (insert email)”. So I had sent an email that was undeliverable.
Once we got it sorted where we were staying we discovered that the back door could not be locked and the locks on our door wasn’t working correctly. The walls were extremely thin and let in any noise that was made from the highway or from the other guests. There was a coffee pot and coffee provided, but no coffee mugs. The water for the shower didn’t get hot, just lukewarm. The water from the sink sprayed everywhere. The ceilings were slanted on one side so if you’re about our heights (5’7” and 5’8”) and not paying attention you’ll hit your head. The mirror was also lower because of it and only showed us from the neck down.
I personally noticed a couple of spiders around the loft and I noticed the rug in the bathroom had something in it that was pokey. My mom and I both thought the bed was uncomfortable and squeaky and we almost just left after the first night to stay at a hotel. But in the end we were only staying two nights and decided to tough it out.
There really wasn’t anything nearby that we could do, overall not staying again.
- Matthew (8/5): - Somewhat odd location over the tasting room, but room itself was comfortable and pleasant
- curt (8/5): - Rooms were nice. Location for visiting Lukenbach or the wineries was excellent. If you are tall, you have to be careful on the stairs as it has very low ceiling.
- Terry (6/5): Safety Issue - The lock was broken on our door to the East Suite, sounds like this was noted by other guests in the past. made me a bit nervous cuz the outside door to come upstairs is to remain unlocked. We could just push the door open to the room- no key needed, although they did have a lockbox. No coffee cups in the room for coffee- only two towels in the room for shower. There was no body soap for shower. Bed was comfy and clean.
- greg (8/5): - Perfect for a night in Fredricksburg.
- Thomas (6/5): Doors wont lock - The entrance door would not lock whoever put the door locks on didnt know how to adjust the lockset. There was no way to lock the deadbolt or the doorknob lock. They had a coffee pot but didnt have any coffee cups. The room was clean and comfortable.
- Christopher (8/5): - Our room door was difficult to lock.
- greg (8/5): - Great place to stay if you’re just looking for a room. Nothing fancy, but a very nice little place. The owner personally showed me to the room when I inquired at the winery desk. I would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a place to stay right in the middle of all the wineries.
- Daniel (10/5): - Love the cozy of the place
- KELLEY (2/5): MOLDY SHACK - WHEN WE CHECKED IN, THEY DIDN'T GIVE US CODE TO GET INTO ROOM. GOT AHOLD OF SOMEONE, EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO "FRONT DESK/CHECK IN" AND WAS TOLD THEY DIDN'T HAVE ROOM FOR US IN THAT BUILDING. WAS GIVIN A 1 BEDROOM COTTAGE THAT WAS COVERED IN BLACK MOLD. BUSTED SPRINKLERS ON PROPERTY. TERRIBLE MOLDY SMELL. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING.
- Atley (4/5): - Don’t stay here. We booked for two nights in one of the lofts. Which was non refundable, and I understand why. We ended up leaving after the first night and paying the extra money to stay somewhere else. TV does not work. There were wires sticking out of the wall. Which is a safety concern. No front desk, had we arrived after the tasting rooms closed we would’ve never been able to find our room. There was hair all over the sheets of the bed. The comforter had white stains on it indicating it had not been washed either. Stains on the faucet sink in the bathroom like it hadn’t been cleaned. Kitchenette only had a sink and microwave, no stove top. The building appeared to be an add on, the rooms felt like we were staying in someone’s bedroom that was slapped together. The lofts should not even be offered on their website as a place to stay. As for the winery, we did not bother trying it, for the simple fact that they didn’t bother promoting it. Overall, the environment was not inviting and we did not feel comfortable staying there.
- Kasie (8/5): Enjoyed my stay - The door stuck so it was extremely hard to get in to. However the room was nice and clean. It was in a good location.
- Brian (6/5): Decent room, but with improvement opportunities - This loft room was a good alternative to a hotel in town as it's only 10 miles from downtown Fredericksburg. Room was clean and had a comfy queen bed, good hot water, and a decent kitchenette. Negatives were the central heat didn't work (owner provider electric space heaters, but without temperature-specific thermostats), the television's Fire Stick didn't work so no tv programming, and the entrance to the two loft rooms was right next to an open-air material storage pavilion for the tasting room, so it didn't make for a very good first impression. One good/bad item worth noting is that service/housekeeping was quick to respond to no toilet paper (none installed and no extra rolls in the room).
- Verified traveler (4/5): Could not use the Shower. No water. - My stay in the West Loft was good, until on Sunday, 12/10/23 I got up to take a shower and could not turn on the water in the shower. So therefore, no shower. I reported to Francisco and he said that he didn't know why the previous guests did not report it and that he would have it fixed by 12/11/23. That did not address my stay as I was checking out on 12/10/23.
- Lisa (2/5): - This place is horrible. Floor was filthy couldn’t walk without your shoes on, we got into bed and the sheets had like sand on them. The tub was cracked and looked like it was going to fall through the floor, no shower curtain and also they do not make it clear where your room is. I will never stay here again and it is not worth the money I spent.
- Paul (2/5): - No sign, had to asked for help to find it. Awful parking/ entrance. Next to highway, too noisy. Missing Shower curtain, burnt light bulb in bathroon, no amenities like coffee or water, old plastic flower decorations, wall outlet with no power, no nightstand ligths. Not recommended.
- Lauren (4/5): - Upon arrival, my husband and I had a hard time finding our room. We approached the gentleman in the Tasting room for direction. He explained to us how we could find our room but it was still unclear to my husband and I. I asked him a question about the location in which he stared at me unresponsive for a few seconds. Making me feel uncomfortable and stupid for even asking. He again explained how to find the room and we left still confused but didn’t want to bother. After locating the room, we found that there was no shower curtain and a 1/4 of a used roll of toilet paper. We were only staying for one night so we didn’t bother asking for more. At no fault of the room, it is noisy. You will hear road noise throughout the night and a local winery likes to play live music. I will not be staying here again. After the rude encounter by the gentleman in the Tasting room, I was disappointed I had to give this establishment my money.
- Jorge (6/5): - It was quiet, but there wasn't a shower curtain, no body soap so we went and bought some, there was a coke bottle and a pair of underwear under one of the nightstands. Oh and on the listing it mentioned a gift, no gift.
- JULIE (10/5): - Great room and nice property. The only hiccup was on checking in. Booking through Hotels.com, you aren’t told which loft you’re in, so we had to find someone to tell us which loft we were in and the door code. Overall would definitely recommend and will consider staying there again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The stove didn't work, the cieling fan didn't work .There wires coming through the wall. The heater was a small space heater.
- Tracy (8/5): - We really enjoyed staying here as it was not in a motel/hotel. The loft room was spacious. Would be nice to have a closet for stays longer than a few days but the rack on the door worked fine for us. Some other reviews complained about the stairs being narrow and not having a hand rail. Here's the scoop on the stairs. When you go in the door on the ground floor there is a set of about 12 steps and they are about 4 feet wide (not narrow). There is no hand rail which to me would be easy and cheap to add. Then you are at a small landing about 8 feet long and you go to the left to the next set of about 4 steps and these are narrow because you are right up on the roof line. There is no fix to this, it is just the way it is because these are loft rooms. This is the 1st time we have stayed in a property of this type instead of a motel/hotel. We would definitely stay here again because we loved the privacy and we would recommend to others.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Thank you! - This was a lovely cabin, outside and inside, surrounded by trees. Although it's just off the road, it seems nicely secluded. Warm, cozy, and well-kept. Lovely hosts and beautiful cellar, although I wasn't able to partake this time. Enjoyed the brief stay!
- shaon (8/5): The Stringers in the West Loft - My husband and I enjoyed our 3 night stay in West Loft! It was very clean and we felt very welcomed! The only thing we would suggest is some sort of hand rails up the steep stairs. We had to cling to the wall for stability going up and down....if walls didn’t have adequate studs, then possibly the rails could be mounted on the stairs themselves.....we would love to experience the cabins one day!
- Martin (10/5): - Excellent and friendly accommodations... fredericksburg is always amazing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cute room! - Great stay! Close to my favorite wineries. It was a comfortable and clean room.
- Marguerite (8/5): Get Away Weekend - The owner is really nice and easy to communicate with. Location may not be in town, but it really was a short ride to get into town.
- Mickey (10/5): Will be back! - Amazing. Beautiful property awesome host. Pic out our window east loft
- Anita (8/5): Good value - The person doing the free wine tasting that comes with the room was extremely knowledgeable about the wines and Israel and the middle east.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It has a slopped roof in the bathroom. One guest could not stand up and use the mirror. Tall person.
Cream for coffee was spoiled.just need to insure its fresh in the future. Staff very prompt in any request. Steep stairs. Would be good for people to know that before booking.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I wanted to stay at a winery, and to not have to stay 2 nights (a lot of places in Fredericksburg require that) was a plus. The winery is right on Highway 290, so that was The Loft view. The accommodations were pretty sparse - not many amenities or personal touch to the decor. But the people were friendly and we got a free wine tasting!
- Daniel (6/5): Odd room - The staff at Mendelbaum Cellars was great but the accommodations were less than favorable.
My wife and I stayed in the "Loft: East" room and while my wife loved the pillows and the nightstands (she wanted to take them home) that was all we really liked about it.
The entrance to the room had obstacles: low ceilings in the stairwell. At 6'1" I hit my head in several places; even my wife had to duck a few times.
The room sported an aluminum frame clothes rack which contrasted the pleasant rustic furnishings otherwise.
The bed was a double mattress at best and was short to boot. My wife complained in the morning that her feet hurt and then realized she had been pushing against the footboard all night long. It also had a severe dip on the left side. It must be replaced!
There was a full-sized stove in the room but has never been hooked up as the necessary 220 volt outlet is missing.
In the bathroom, the angled roof cuts into the space above the sink making the use of the mirror troublesome. My wife had to hunch over to put her makeup on.
Finally, finish the central a/c-heating system. The combo a/c-dehumidifier and the electric space heater are ill-equipped to maintain a comfortable temperature.
The free wine tasting (5 wines) and the store discount were nice, too.
- Mark (10/5): - My girlfriend thought it was the cutest. The room was very comfortable. We will be going back.
- April (10/5): Perfect getaway spot - Wonderful experience, amazing customer service. The room was clean and the owners were extremely helpful and nice. Can’t wait to go back again. The owner even brought us out a cheese tray, haven’t had better customer service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a great time! Very friendly and excellent communication!
- KathyO (10/5): - nice accomadations very clean and comfortable bed!
Great wines and loved talking with the owner about Israel! Will definitely stay again! Great olive oil as well!
- Billy (10/5): - It was quiet and the room was spacious. The staff was friendly and helpful. Location was good for
branching out to different activaties. It worked out well for my wife and I to relax after shopping or sight seeing. Would like to go back there for our next trip to the area.
- Tom (10/5): - The property is very conveniently located but the most appealing point is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.
- Blaawndee (10/5): - What a thrilling, unique find in Fredericksburg! Our room was an adorable loft over the winery - perfect for our wine tasting weekend. We will definitely stay here again when next in town!
- Jen (10/5): - Great location, very good wines and they had an Israeli chef there cooking fresh Israeli specialties! Wonderful treat-will go back! Beautiful outdoor seating/garden area too.
- Art (10/5): - Awesome loft just above a winery. Easy check in and allowed late checkout hassle free. Close to other winery's and only a short drive to downtown.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very cozy and clean rooms! Convenient location to other winery’s and downtown Fredericksburg
- Cristine (10/5): - Awesome set up right above the tasting room! Cute and comfortable! Felt like a b&b and had very welcoming and attentive staff. Will definitely stay here again next time!
