Guest Reviews
- David (8/5): -
- Joanna (5/5): No Escaping One Noise or Another. - The breakfast provided was good considering it's not cooked but a serve yourself continental. If you're a sound sleeper The Dolphin will do. There are 5 rooms. Numbers 1 through 4 face a loud busy street. I moved to number 5, a nicer room which faces the back and is potentially quiet if not for someone walking around on the ancient sqeeky floor above at all hours of the night.
- Simon (8/5): - Town centric; nice pub; food looked great but I ddn't eat there Not there long enough to make a judgement
- Lianne (8/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): -
- marilyn (10/5): -
- Delphine (8/5): Great hotel for short break - Great Breakfast
Friendly staff
Great central location Toilet seat needs fixing
Blind needs fixing
- Nicholas (8/5): Great location that really suited my needs. Very convenient for the station - Great location and friendly staff The rooms do not get serviced for longer stays unless you ask. N my opinion, they should be unless the rate is reduced for multi-stat visits.
- Natalia (8/5): - Very close to railway station and the center of the town. Possibility to relax and eat in the same place where you stay. Very good fish snd chips. Very good breakfast. Parking space available. The window is not closing tightly so during the night can be heard road noise and a possibly drunk person bashing the entrance door. Also in the morning we didn’t have where to leave the key. Luckily the cleaning woman arrived and we left that with her.

- Carl (10/5): PERFECT STAY! PERFECT STAFF! - Everything was perfect, from check-in through to the sizeable room. Breakfast was continental which was fantastic and plenty of choices.
The staff where very welcoming and even let us check-in early which was a nice bonus.
We will definitely stay again. Well recommend.
- Jan (5/5): Ok - The location and it had a car park. Steps you could trip over going into bathroom. Couldn’t get internet to work well. No breakfast tea bags at breakfast available. A lot of money for what it was.
- Barbara (10/5): Perfect - Lovely friendly staff and good food Nothing
- Peter wil (10/5): - The staff are excellent very friendly and helpful . The food is very good and not over priced. Pizzas are the best I've had.
- John (10/5): Handy place to stay in a good location. - Comfortable accommodation in a convenient location close to the shops and the canal.
The bar is a nice pmace for a drink
There's a good range of beers and friendly service. Nothing
- William (8/5): -
- Timothy (8/5): Good base for railway station and south end of Newbury. - Ideal location close to the railway station. Continental breakfast was good Busy pub downstairs, so a little noisy until closing time. Coffee machine at breakfast was temperamental , two guests failed to get it to wok properly
- peter (9/5): - The old irregular shape of rooms and building. The big choose for breakfast Nothing for my short stay
- Lagdon (8/5): A good town centre hotel for a reasonable price - A town centre hotel that delivered No ground floor accommodation , Although we were aware of this at booking time
- Preller (9/5): - Easy walking distance from train station, even with luggage. Easy to find. Good signage in the warren of this old building. Good pub. Room too hot with sealed windows.
I would note that we were there on a Friday. There was music and partying in the pub's garden until 11:00 pm, but then it was quiet. We tend to turn in early, about 9:00, so younger folks might enjoy partying with the locals. We slept well.....after 11.
- David (9/5): - Location. Large room
- Jason (10/5): -
- Katie (8/5): -
- Diana Carolina (10/5): - It’s an inn and pub. We arrived earlier and didn’t inform the property adequately, but they were really nice and opens and did the check in, although it wasn’t time for it. The room was clean and the food at the pub was amazing, the make the best fries, and I had the pork belly it was really crispy and well made.
- Jane (10/5): -
- FRANK (2/5): I wouldn’t stay again, even if it were free - All bedrooms are on the first floor accessed by a very steep staircase with a very short going (the horizontal bit) which makes it very difficult going up and worse coming down when you’re carrying a suitcase.
Bedroom had no sound insulation from the bar beneath, but worse no sound insulation through the window. At just after five in the morning there are lorries driving by and shortly after six a noisy street cleaning vehicle. any chance of sleep after 5 o’clock is negligible.
The breakfast is a serve yourself with cold meat and cheese stored under clingfilm in the fridge, breakfast cereals, tasteless croissants, all in a windowless room with no staff.
- Robert (8/5): Overall a good break - Very convenient A little noisy
- Amber (8/5): -
- Philip (8/5): -
- Daniel (9/5): -
- Ian (8/5): Great sleep, good shower, good food in a central location. All for a great room rate. - Comfortable Bed, useful desk, great shower, good dinner menu and friendly staff. Simple but good breakfast. For the room rate this is great Nothing. I’d stay again if in the area. It makes an interesting change from a hotel chain.
- Lee (8/5): -
- Louise (7/5): Good for an overnight business stay. - Easy to find from station. Clean. The room was so hot I had to open windows and go out for a while for it to cool. It was like a sauna.
- Marsha (7/5): - Lovely stay.. nice break from a long flight from Australia
- Roger (8/5): -
- Thornett (10/5): Excellent - Room was lovely and location was perfect. Had a pizza for evening meal which was really tasty. Lots of variety for breakfast.
Free parking. Nothing
- Graham (10/5): -
- Ross (7/5): Nice pub hotel in the centre of Newbury - Location and breakfast can be had at anytime. The pub quiz is quite noisy when you are in the rooms above it
- Jamie (10/5): - Good location easy to walk to everything
- Oriigiinal (10/5): -
- Nicola (6/5): - Location good. Noise levels. Understand it's a pub but not aware when booked how noisy it was going to be. They do supply ear plugs.
- Paul (8/5): -
- Andy (8/5): - Location Nothing
- Susan (9/5): Good value. - Lovely room..Very clean. Helpful staff. Handy on-site parking. Good continental breakfast. Very steep stairs.
- Jeanette (8/5): Nice pre Christmas break. - Location and free parking. Nice continental breakfast. Friendly staff particularly Bella who was very helpful when we had to change rooms. Busy bar area with lovely staff. Good atmosphere. The rooms at the front have a lot of noise from the traffic and people standing outside smoking . The windows are old sash windows and have no secondary glazing.
- Laura (10/5): Lovely atmosphere and comfy and warm. Try the food at the pub. - Everything was clean and warm. Good shower. The food in the pub at dinner was amazing. Would highly recommend.
- Bryan (8/5): -

- Jeni (7/5): Very nice, with friendly stafg - The room was clean and serviceable for 2 nights. The noise from the traffic outside was very loud due to only having single glazed windows.
- Emma (10/5): -
- Martin Nicoll (8/5): Really nice stay. Staff were lovely and friendly. -
- Jon (7/5): Did a job for the price - Well located , good bed Breakfast was good but the bead was sourdough and not ideal
- john (9/5): -
- Patrick (8/5): Comfortable & good value - Clean, comfortable and good value for money. Better than expected. Old building so windows let in some street noise, but was ok.
- Jonathan (9/5): - Good place when travelling for work. Staff very friendly and breakfast was fine. Good bar.
- sheila (8/5): - Sockets next to the bedl Lack of a mirror in the bedroom near a socket
- Ray (8/5): - Nice atmosphere and good location When we booked there was no indication it was only continental breakfast
- Dana (10/5): -
- Julie (10/5): We had a wonderful stay - Location and rooms above the pub was perfect
- Ady (9/5): - Great bar with a good atmosphere and Perfect location
- Cassi (8/5): Perfect one night stop over - Surprisingly lovely pub given town centre location. Berr gardens is a real treat, lovely interior and reasonably priced food and drink.
Room was everything you needed- very spacious, plenty of tea/coffee toiltries. Loved the early breakfast set-up, all laid out ready the you are- great for us as we're always up at stupid o'clock and wanted to get back on the road early.
Really pleasant stay, ideally located for the races- highly recommend.

- Abbott (8/5): Good - Convenient location Nil
- Celyn (10/5): - Lovely accommodation. Pub is amazing and the pizza are very good!
- Giancarlo (9/5): Mi complimento con il gestore per l'ottimo lavoro. Ottimo poter bere una birra "in casa". - Colazione continentale con disponibilità di salumi e formaggio oltre a croissant e marmellate.

- David (9/5): Lovely weekend would stay again - Great location. Very welcoming Bar shut at 9pm on Sunday
- Delphine (9/5): Great hotel for a short stay - Food was amazing
Room was great No milk for drinks
- Peter (7/5): Great bed, not so great breakfast, experience - Great location, nice vibe and decor. Zero staff presence on Sunday at breakfast with a basic coffee machine, (no marmalade) and all self-serve, which was a naff experience on departure on an otherwise great stay. A bit of ‘people interaction’ on departure morning would be beneficial.
- Kenneth (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff. Good location
- Andy (7/5): Good - Good
- Gayle (8/5): - heritage site, pub & restaurant good, charming gathering of locals in evenings. Excellent with temperate temperatures
