- Emma (7/5): Apartment near the beach. - Location was about 5 minute walk to the beach. Apartment was large. Big bedrooms, bedrooms had fans. Restaurant and store on site. Super basic apartment. Some of the lights didn't work, need a fan in the dining room as it was so hot and couldn't sit in there. No toaster, coffee machine or microwave. The apartment is run on a generator and solar which is the reason for limited appliances. Fridge couldn't keep our food cold and we didn't overload the fridge.
- Michelle (8/5): -
- Kelly (10/5): - Great service
Great staff
Keith did a great job showing my family around looking forward to coming back again
- Gilmour (9/5): - Loved being wrapped in nature in our glamping cabin. Trees all around and felt so relaxing and calm there. Wonderful staff who were so friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend a stay here if you’re after a true Moreton Island experience. A toaster in the camp kitchen

- Claudia (10/5): Private and comfortable beachside glamping - Such a lovely private getaway near the beach. Everything you needed was in the room or the well appointed camp kitchen. Great location a couple of minutes walk to the beach. Lovely gardens and bird life. Beautiful glamming accommodation.
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alex (8/5): - Would definitely recommend for anyone staying on Moreton. 2 bedroom unit was spacious and comfortable. Only recommendation is to stow the pool table balls each night by 9:00 pm- despite the signs to not use the pool tables before 8:00 am, a group of children served as our alarm clock before 7:00 am every morning since the table was right outside our bedroom.
- Beth (10/5): Paradise - Great little pocket of paradise based in Bulwer on Moreton Island.
The accommodation and location exceeded our expectations, regardless of having phone signal, it was the perfect switch off to the outside world.
Staff were great, the shop and cafe served great food, and the short walk to the beach was ideal.
Keith drove us to and from the ferry, very lovely and chatty telling us stories of being a local on moreton. Some families didn’t obey the curfew.
- Adrian (10/5): thoroughly enjoyed the stay. we used to camp now we glamp especially with bad weather - as it was our first time glamping and we loved it one thing was the toilet seat not fitting properly. some person not cleaning up after themselves after cooking. cover the cutlery so no gecko poo
- Craig (5/5): Will suit some people but not for off grid campers - The location was good overall, easy access to all major attractions + a nice beach to relax after a big day. The Glamping cabins overall were well appointed and in reasonable condition. The balcony's on the Glamping cabins are very small. Glamping means to me you have a cabin to sleep in but should be room to set up your own camping gear / kitchen if need be. There is no room at all for this and only option is to use the community camp kitchen which is well set up but not big enough to service 12 Clamping cabins. It was not busy when we stayed so we made it work. Some of the Cabins have a grassed area so at least you could set up your own gazebo. Hut 1 would be my choice is stayed again. They have solar power set up but very unreliable, it cut out several times during our stay and often a diesel generation running. You can't use your own 12V fridge. Every hut has a fridge space allocated which is far from ideal. Also Expensive, paid $880 for 4 nights for not much to be honest. I'd be checking prices at the resort as you will find not much more expensive. Overall a disappointed.
- Allison (1/5): No point staying at Castaways without a vehicle, they charge an extra 75 return transfer fee each person. - Leaving it The ice machine did not work without a token from the shop, there needs to be a sign advising people of this. Needing ice when the shop is closed is not ideal!
Due to ferry times & booked transfer by Castaways, we arrived at 10.30am and even though our room was vacant & cleaned, we were made to wait until the 2pm booking in time.
We watched the cleaner finish at 11am.
We were made to leave by 8.30am instead of the 10am vacate time claiming tide times to get to ferry departure , only to see the same vehicle return to pick up guests from the incoming ferry. Our ferry was not leaving until 3pm, so had to sit on beach all day with our luggage!
There was not a maintenance issue at all, we were sitting looking at our room the whole time from the kitchen!
- James (10/5): Just awesome - Great location, clean, comfortable and super friendly staff.
- Regan (9/5): Naturally beautiful, peaceful and quiet place to unwind and enjoy the beaches. - Beautiful gardens, convenient shop and short walk to the beach Nothing
- Shih-yi (8/5): Very good -
- Sonia (9/5): relaxing - Breakfast and location was good the spot light in the room kept coming on in the middle of the night
- Javier (4/5): No island for carless, solo travelers. No place for long stays. - In general the island is not a good place for traveling solo or without a car. Tangalooma is only place worth snorkeling. Swimming does not feel safe due to jetskis.
About the accommodation:
Price of a glamping tent is similar to a decent to hotel room in most European cities, or very nice rural rooms in rural areas. Tent and infrastructure are fine, with the exception that there are no plugs inside the tent, so charging devices is tricky.
Many hospitality standard where disappointing:
Transfer is kind of expensive, price is per person, even if they are dropping other guests or coming from running an errand (if you choose the time, that is an extra fee).
There is no reception, they attend guests at the shop, and there is usually a long queue and everybody is very busy with shops, coffees, restaurants, so it feels uncomfortable to go and ask whatever you need.
The common kitchen is well equipped, but tap water is not safe to drink and drinking water is not provided - you need to buy it at the shop, which feels quite unwelcoming. Kitchen was not cleaned for a week during my stay - not usual practice, due to some workers being on leave.
The room will only be cleaned during your stay for an extra fee, which is fine for short stays, but seems to apply to long ones ( more than 1 week) aswell.
There is wifi, but no access for guests. As there is hardly any phone coverage (even with Telstra), trying to change or make reservations, check timetables, etc can be really stressful.
An extra star because I got wifi access after asking, and I got a very small refund for the days I left early.
- Kez (10/5): Absolute bliss 😊 - I absolutely loved my stay at Castaways. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. The food was amazing and the facilities were awesome. I will definitely be back again. Nothing
- Waterhouse (8/5): Awesome place to stay if you don’t want to camp in all weather. Easy and convenient to cook meals. - Nice spot, clamping tents were nice and clean, great hot showers The bedding - “queen bed” the beds were two singles joined together, so you could experience the firmness of the metal frames of outer edging of the beds right in the middle of the bed.
- Samantha (10/5): Loved our stay- perfect location amongst nature - Loved the serenity
- David (4/5): Disappointing -
- John (5/5): Disappointing for the money, but if they rectify those problems above I would have recommended as a destination. - Staff were awesome, and location was pretty good as well.. it was great to be close to a shop. No washing machines as advertised.
Sometimes no water.
Mostly no hot water.
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Tennille (8/5): Very good -
- Shannon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gustavo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chelsee (9/5): Good except for the families . Staying there - Clean , friendly The families noise and banging on our walls as a game . The drunk parents never told them off. And were noisey and running a generator up to 11:30 pm . When the shop told us of their strict 9:00 pm no noose policy
- Carolyn (8/5): Comfy stay in the most beautiful surroundings - Lovely Safari tent with comfy bed and handy storage. The ensuite shower room was spacious and much better than I imagined. The communal cooking area was very well equipped and a nice space to meet others. The local area was absolutely stunning, we totally loved our stay I have nothing negative
- Asel (10/5): Exceptional - Pls let your customer know, that there is no shuttle service included in the booking
- Josh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent rooms , friendly staff definitely a great experience
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Annette (10/5): A wonderful stay in paradise, Castaways was fabulous!! - Excellent facilities, excellent staff, excellent location!
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - Location and the people
- Rebecca (10/5): Lovely pleasant stay. We will be back next year. - Our family of 5 stayed in 3 bedroom unit.. and we booked the glamping tents for our Friends, as we got married at Bulwer. Location was great, shop was very handy and our unit was small but comfortable. The only thing my kids complained about was their beds being hard, but I thought they were comfy.
- Aurélien (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kimberly (9/5): Amazing - Location was amazing, glamping style awesome
- Holle (7/5): Good -
- Jade (8/5): It was an amazing get away, just what we needed to escape the busy city. - The location was beautiful and quiet except for the lovely sounds of birds in the morning. The cabin was very cosy and the bathroom was better than we expected. The bed was very comfortable and large so my partner and I could spread out after a big day! We also had a fire pit which we roasted marshmallows, which we bought from the castaways shop as well as a bottle of bubbly for our anniversary which was responsibly priced. We enjoyed playing pool and walking around the neighbourhood and watching the sunset over the ocean. The reception was pretty bad if you weren’t with Telstra, not that this issue is because of castaways but it was unexpected when it came to checking emails and bank transfers.
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Penny (9/5): Castaways feels really remote and off the beaten track but with great facilities and incredibly comfortable. - Great facilities in a very cool location! Nothing.
- Johanne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Johanne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mii (10/5): Thankyou for making our holiday a special memorable stay 🥰 - Beautiful place to stay. Cafe served up great food and service was amazing. Very clean and comfortable room as well as a clean and well equipped communal kitchen.
Loved everything and Moreton Island is a beautiful place to visit!!
Castaways, you rock!!! 🥰
- Phillip (10/5): A place to happily disconnect from the outside world and enjoy some peace! - Our glamp was beautiful, really well maintained and comfortable. The kitchen facility was also in excellent condition. The staff were fantastic! N/A
- Andrew (7/5): Good -
- Nazarina (7/5): It was good place and area - Glamping Fridge is dirty and stove broken, microwave broken
- Jamie (5/5): Passable - Location Cafe not opened as advertised. Asked if I could check in at 5pm- 6pm, never answered my question. Cafe where you check in closed at 4:30pm. I only found that out when I got there earlier than expected.
- Vicky (8/5): Very good -
- Jae (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (7/5): Good -
- John (8/5): Very good - Everything was good The gas stove in the communal kitchen really did not work well at all. The burners were terrible.
- Sachin (6/5): Pleasant -
- Sergey (8/5): Very good -
- Aaron (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tony (10/5): Exceptional - Belinda and her team were fantastic, just the right balance of being available if required, but left alone for privacy. We loved the glamping tents and would certainly recomend them (power at the tents) camp kitchen was 10 out of 10 with an arangement of phone chargers available to use. The island of course is amazing, the lighthouse and champagne pools a were a favourite, and of course snorkelling on the Tangalooma wrecks...wow! Remember, its a subtropical island, there will be a million mozzies in places, bring the aerogard.
- Santosh (5/5): Passable - Transfer from ferry to hotel was late. And then when I arrived, they closed the kitchen. So no food for us. We ended up getting a salad. No one refunded our money either.
- Jenna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steven (8/5): Very good -
- Evelin (9/5): Apartment near the beach - Great apartment near the beach. It is in need of some TLC. Great beach to watch the sunset.
- Jonathan (5/5): 3 bed Apartment not worth the money. Safari Glamping tent was much better - Location.
Safari tent was well equiped. The 3 bedroom apartment was very dated and not very clean.
None of the lights worked (the electrical sockets and Tv worked) - theyre was no way of informing anyone of this as the shop has closed and the "contact us" methods were either an answerphone or an email
- Aoife (6/5): Do your homework - You need to do research and make sure you book a lift from the ferry if you are walking. It's 10km away. No roads. Bring plenty of water and food. And I'm proof. Eaten alive by sandflies!! The overpriced cost of food in the shop.
120 kids were there at the same time.
Beautiful but very remote.
- Darren (10/5): Best 3 day week ever it’s must so what you waiting for book and enjoy the sunsets - We love what the new owners have done with place the glamps have all be renovated with new walls and sliding doors and a super comfortable bed and mesh sliding door so you can leave it open to let in the nice sea breeze and keep the mozzies out it’s amazing had everything you needed. And they also put small fire pit near your glamp so you can sit outside with the chairs they supply. And the staff super amazing and castaways shop and food and outdoor kitchen amazing No dislikes from us it was amazing
- Daniela (8/5): Very good - Beautiful spot in Moreton Island, very comfy and clean room in the glamping area. Staff are lovey, happy to help out and very welcoming.
- Ross (8/5): Very good -
- Allison (9/5): Glamping On Morton Island - Quite location and sitting on the beach watching the sun go down.
The staff very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them.
The close proximity to the shop and kiosk for great food was a bonus.
Camp kitchen is excellent with your own fridge space. We went in the middle of summer for my husband's birthday and as their are no fans or aircon it was very hot in the glamp during the day but this was our fault for booking in the hot season.
But saying that there is lots of places around the accommodation to sit in a cooler area.
- David (10/5): Excellent stay on Moreton Island - Everything
Particularly the northern island tour The mosquitoes bites 😀
- Chiu (10/5): Exceptional - The staff is so nice and helpful! But be sure to check the tide time and plan your trip based on that!
- Matt (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anne (9/5): Great glamping hut, well located and v helpful staff -
- Agustina (10/5): Exceptional - everything was amazing!
