Guest Reviews
- Rhianne (9/5): -
- Rupert (5/5): Economic and functional but no real glamour - Good location for my work. Pub food was good. Dirty room. Cobwebs. Grubby paintwork. Tired looking bathroom
- Maarjorie (5/5): Not to be repeated. - The meal we had in the evening was good. Beds were too soft, no seat to sit on,shower tray overflowed. The advertised fridge in the room didn't work. Needs blackout curtains.
- David (9/5): Excellent! - The surroundings were great. The bar, restaurant and staff were exceptional! The food was excellent! The only thing I can think of that wasn’t perfect, and it’s a minor thing, was the WiFi. The room WiFi was nonexistent even though it said I was connected. It didn’t help that I couldn’t get a mobile signal. Strangely there’s a different WiFi in the restaurant which worked!
- Valentin (10/5): -
- David (4/5): Apart the the lovely atmosphere n food in pub it was very disapointing . We were told there was WiFi and wasn’t any at a - Bed was ok shower ok .?mould around the shower .all room needs upgrading . NO WIFI. NOT OFFERED ANY CLEAN TOWELS OR TOILET ROLLS .
- Cotton (2/5): never again - nothing the room was in a poor state cracked walls in side door hanging off hinges did not stay at i am in the process of asking booking.com 4 a full refund
- John (10/5): -
- Milford (5/5): - Meals were good but be warned of 10% service charge. Room superficially clean. Thick dust under bed and high level window cills. No clothes hangers in wardrobe, no shelving in bathroom and no toilet roll holder. Also shower waste needs attentiin. Dog friendly room for £25 extra!
- Mann (8/5): The Boat Inn - Clean comfortable room. Food was excellent in the pub. Breakfast not available, however not an issue. Might be an idea to consider putting some breakfast items in the room and charging a bit extra as an option?
- Mike (10/5): Definitely go back - Very cozy lovely location Nothing
- Colin (1/5): Very disappointing. Won’t be stopping here again and it’s a pity that the accommodation is not to the same standard as t - Location was good along with the pub/restaurant but aside from this absolutely nothing! We stopped in ROOM 1 which was small, dirty and poorly maintained.
Main room - One side of the bed was up against the wall which meant you had to crawl off the bed at the bottom. That in itself was problematic as there was only about a 150mm gap as the wardrobe was at the end of the bed. This also meant you couldn’t fully open the wardrobe doors. On moving the bedside cabinet (this had the centre draw knob missing) to plug in the phone charger there was a great deal of thick dust behind it.
Bathroom - The top hinge of the door was very loose which meant that you couldn’t close it properly. Also, both the internal and external handles had screws missing or hanging out, which again meant you couldn’t close the door. The toilet flushing mechanism wasn’t functioning correctly and there was dried urine on the seat hinges! On getting in the shower I was confronted by a cobweb. The spray from the shower head did not work correctly on none of the settings and the shower head itself and it kept sliding down the riser rail.
TV/WiFi - Some of the TV channels were not available as the signal was very poor. The WiFi was virtually non existent, continually buffering so both streaming TV and using the internet proved difficult. We did raise our concerns with the staff who said that would look into it, but aside from giving us the ‘business’ internet log on did nothing. This connection was poor also and as the guest WiFi it continually buffered. We couldn’t even hotspot our phones as despite us using different networks both signals were hit and miss.
Outside - To the right of the entrance door was the pub/restaurant dustbin area and just as we were settling down in the evenings the staff came and emptied the bottle bins into the main dustbins. It think was is very inconsiderate to the staying guests.
- Edward (8/5): -
- Andrew (7/5): -
- Ann (1/5): Myself and my partner didn't end up staying. as we walked in it smelt proper fosty - Nothing When we opened door to go in it smelt really fosty and flet we cudnt stay to sleep there as made me feel sick so had to book somewhere else
- Andy (4/5): The overall experience didn’t justify the nightly rate. Disappointing value. - The shower was decent, and the location is great for canal-side walks. I didn’t use the coffee/tea facilities, so can’t comment on those. I was shocked by the poor condition of the room. Beds were old and felt unclean, paint was peeling off the walls and windor sill, and the toilet seat was loose—clearly lacking basic maintenance. I had to manually program the TV just to get it working. Worst of all, a bright green emergency light stayed on all night, making it impossible to sleep comfortably. This room did not meet even the most basic standards of hospitality.
- Peter (7/5): Clean and friendly. Decent value for money. - The room was clean and well presented. The area was quiet and away from any major routes. There was no Internet in the room and the TV picture was intermittent. Because of the remote location there was no phone signal either, so a little frustrating trying to do a little work.
- Sian (10/5): If you want peace and quiet and to be looked after, come here. - After a stressful few months we went here for a short break. The grounds with the trees were so calming. It was the first time I had felt peace in months.
The staff were so lovely and friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable. The shower was nice and powerful.
The food in the pub was just delicious.
- Stephen (8/5): -
- James (6/5): Could be improved - The burger and pint I had was yummy :) The offhand nature of the person I spoke to the most on arrival.
when I went to order food I was told a lot of items were not available as they were changing their menu. Fair enough. Everything that was not available had been crossed off so navigating this issue was fairly straight forward.
Since "the burger" was still available and there were signs *everywhere* (even an advertisement in my room) saying you could get a free pint if you ate a burger on the day I was staying. It was kind of a no brainer, so I asked for this, and was told they don't do that any more. The implication being they were going back on the offer that was advertised everywhere...
I emphasized that a burger and a pint was what I wanted, and asked if that was a problem! While I might have felt "cheated" I kind of don't care about the lost savings. If I'm honest I did not like the unapologetic "matter of fact" way the news was delivered, so I'm saying something in my review. I also disagree with being given a BS explanation for denying me (nobody wanted it). I mean I'm proof that someone wanted it!! For me the issue was that this was still being clearly advertised on multiple displays, and in my room. This meant I felt messed around and treated like I did not matter.
The room itself was OK, somewhat cramped, and a little tired, but otherwise OK.
However, the TV barely worked (signal-wise). It was capable of streaming, but the wifi was non existent outside the main pub. It has HDMI connections on the underside, so you cannect something to it if you want. Thankfully I had too much work to do, so the TV issues didn't bother me at all.
I mostly didn't sleep well as there was a beer chiller humming away all night, my room was probably closest to this, so other rooms may not be so affected.
There was also a lot of noise created by wheely bins being moved around quite early in the morning.
- Smith (1/5): Only stayed one out of two nights. - The staff were friendly although their son was a little too friendly, I don't want a child asking me questions when I've travelled for 4 hours The room was dirty, the fire escape light was above the bed and glowed green all night, used underwear under bathroom sink, mould in shower, broken blind, bed linen split at seem, walls very think (I could hear another guest sneeze in their room).
- Richard (5/5): Nice location, helpful and pleasant staff, good food but accomodation needs some work. - Food was very good Accomodation lacked attention. Front door was difficult to open as it snagged on doormat. No glasses in the room. No breakfast available it was very much a motel. We left the room key through the letterbox.
- Robert (10/5): - Great location next to a canal, and really pub with a great beer garden.
- Christine (1/5): Grotty place , don’t stay here! - This was a convenient place to stay to visit friends. That’s the only good thing I can say about this property. The room clearly hadn’t been cleaned for quite some time. There was a layer of dust on some surfaces and on skirting boards. There were plenty of cobwebs. The bathroom blind was broken and not usable. Generally tatty
- James (5/5): Disappointed and it's now starting to look old and tired. - Location very nice. Plenty of parking and good pub. Very friendly staff. No where to sit in the room, only the beds. Even though I arrived on time the room and bathroom had not been heated. It was freezing. Took a while to heat up. Small fridge in the room to store breakfast (pub does not offer breakfast) but it didn't work. The beds are old and need replacing (take a look at the frames). A glasss would have been nice. There is green night/emergency light above the door. It is far to bright. Lights up the room at night. Kept me awake even though I tried to cover it.
The food in the pub is fine but seems over priced now. Was my steak really worth what I was charged and was that a Caesar Salad? Onions rings balls of grease.
Probably would not stay here again.
- Wayne (6/5): -
- L (6/5): Food pricey. No breakfast available - Internet connection abysmal
- julie (2/5): - The pub was lovely. The accomation was filthy dirty. The toilet seat was not fixed to the toilet. No toilet paper. The bedding and sheets were covered in hair and bits of dirt. Not sure if they had been changed. The floor had not been cleaned. There was also an emergency light which was on all night in the room.
Such a shame because it could be a lovely place to stay.
- Freddie (6/5): It’s fairly cheap for a reason, that needs thinking about - Good location in lovely village in countryside. Easy parking. Comfy beds No WiFi, fridge was useless, TV could only pick 2 stations. Pointless having it.
- Harrington (6/5): - The food was delicious the staff was friendly and the bed was super comfortable The waitress charged me double of what my bill was but I believe this was a genuine accident as she read the receipt wrong/ Upside down and the room was very dusty and had many cobwebs and the bathroom had broken blinds and a broken shower door but apart from that it was a very nice stay
- Rachel (5/5): Take dogs but £25 charge - It was conveniently located as we were supposed to be camping at Osberton but had to find somewhere to escape a storm. Comfortable bed and warm room and hot shower. Nice bar
Great as pet friendly, only accommodation we could find that did £25 for one dog very expensive and not made clear on booking.com
- Sophie (1/5): It was terrible - The shower didn’t work and it was very dirty and smelled terrible
- Tony (1/5): First ever need to complain to Booking.com - Food reviews sounded good.
Pleasant location Tiny room with no proper windows.
Plaster board walls separated adjoining room which meant we could hear every sound !
They were quite noisy people next door.
We asked if we could change rooms or upgrade but this was not possible as the venue was hosting a wedding party which was likely to be noisy and end late.
The accommodation was therefore fully booked by wedding guests who were justifiably in a party mood.
We do think more transparency when booking would have been helpful.
No Internet so couldn't look for alternative accommodation.
No mobile signal.
We decided to travel home (2 hour drive) and continue our visit to Osberton the following day by driving back again.
- Oakley (7/5): Lovely rooms - Very good Nothing
- Sara (8/5): V gd location.super friendly staff dog friendly clean warm comfortable - Exc location No breakfast!
- Fleur (6/5): -
- Alan Flowers (8/5): Comfortable modern overnight stay location, useful when touring in a car in North Lincolnshire - Ideal for an overnight stay en route to Scunthorpe area. Its a compact room , but clean and comfortable, with parking outside the entrance door, and easy to enter with luggage, being on the ground floor. No issues, all OK. I arrived after midnight and so had no chance to enjoy the highly recommended food. Hope to enjoy a good meal there next time I am in the area.
- Le Bourdonnec (5/5): - "Un petit supplément peut être emandé pour un chien"
Résultat des courses :25 livres !!!
- Ian (7/5): Food excellent but disappointed because no internet . - Very clean No internet or tv stations
- Fred (9/5): -
- Amanda (7/5): - Pub was excellent. Wonderful meal and staff fantastic. Room very basic but for the cost couldn't really complain.
- Christopher (9/5): Good rooms and excellent restaurant - Clean and quiet
- Kerry (5/5): - Nice pub and grounds Room smelt damp
- Rob (10/5): - Great food in the pub, great staff, dogs are welcome, overall a good place to stay.
- berylandbrian (7/5): Our stay would have been perfect except there was no password for the Internet, and no phone signal. - The Boat Inn was not open for breakfast No WiFi, no phone connection, no password for Internet, no staff to help us get a taxi. No help available.
- jamie (6/5): -
- Rodney (10/5): -
- Barnes (7/5): Basic accommodation, lovely location, delicious food in bar, friendly staff. - Great location on canal. Good value basic rooms, water pressure in bathrooms was good. No breakfast available.
- fiona (9/5): - Lovely welcome from staff at the bar on arrival, really organised and efficient. The inn looks gorgeous, next time I'd love to eat there. The room is really clean, beautifully presented and lovely attention to detail - a range of items to make hot drinks, toiletries, just little things that show care and attention. I had a slight problem with a door lock but staff were very fast to help and resolve it. Nothing to dislike, it's lovely.
- Christopher (7/5): - WiFi didn't work and didn't get phone reception
- Anthony (3/5): - Location was perfect No phone signal and no Wifi
Room was dirty
No Hot Water
- Peter (5/5): Good food in bar, reasonable price. Rooms need a makeover - Good food in pub. Perfect for canal walk. Friendly waitress staff. Shower never got hot. Rooms bit grubby and slightly worn feel to room. Bugs literally tumbled out of windows when opened.,
- William (1/5): Bad - The pub itself was pleasant enough although food had finish as inarrived late but pleasant & helpful barmanplus a nice wind down pint before bed. The room was terrible one of the worst I've ever experienced, door would not latch in room so was not secure. Bed linen dirty with grey hair & what looked like pubic hair present. No toiletries, just a used bar of soap. A filthy old mat sat near the shower on the floor. Last but not least an infestation of tiny flies everywhere. So not a pleasant stay & I would not recommend this establishment to anyone in its current state.
- Sharon (8/5): Memorable! No birthday card lol! - No breakfast excellent food especially the pizzas!
Loved the garden nice bar and dining area Room 5
Broken toilet seat, shower drain issue noise if taps and too hot
Not suitable for two dogs or anyone with. Mobility needs stairs up narrow and a room with dogs
However, that aside it was offered in good faith from the couple who ran it
- Alan (3/5): Working staff and food was very good, room care and condition also facilities completely unsatisfactory - The staff were very polite the food was excellent. The location was very good as before. I arranged to go a day earlier and pay for the extra night on arrival which was done with the manager when I arrived, the room was as expected however the fridge didn’t work I had to wait a day for another fridge as I had to keep drinks and milk ( which went off with the heat) in a sink of cold water to try to keep it cold, the second fridge which I had to remind the manager 3 times to bring one also didn’t work I didn’t asked for a third fridge as I wasn’t happy and didn’t want to create an issue which I believe it would have also we opened the window and it felt out I had to put it back in as it is worn the door into the main room top hinge was coming away and we had to lift the door to shut it. We did not receive clean towels nor bedding nor cups nor milk or sugar we had to ask for milk ect on top of 3 nights without any of the above being addressed I had to unblock the shower drain lots of black gunk came out but not all I could have lived better in a tent not happy at all we left 6am /6.30am couldn’t wait to get out incase something else happened i
Didn’t take photos as my wife said just leave it but I had to mention it
- Hit (8/5): Lovely canal side pub & accommodation - Lovely location beside the canal, at a great pub that had good beer and lovely evening meals. Our room was a nice size and the bed was comfortable. Early morning rubbish collection lorry!
- Margaret (2/5): Very disappointed as we paid a lot of money - Location The food was awful. Waited over an hour to get food. My husband was sick all night after it
- Julie (6/5): Pleasant - Nice location next to canal, Very small room, not very comfy bed with springs that squeaked every time you move.
- Sandra (8/5): Very good -
- Richard (1/5): Bad - There was no one there although they had agreed a check in between 11 and 12. We were stranded
- David (10/5): Great little spot. - Great location and food. N/A
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sophie (7/5): Great cheap room - Great location linked to pub. Nice spacious family room. It really needs blackout curtains and blinds especially in the summer so that you can get a full night's sleep.
Blinds in the bathroom were broken in multiple places. One part was sharp which didn't help with a 3yo in the room.
Needed a deep dust but for the price we would stay again.
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Broughton (2/5): didn't enjoy - location rooms were dirty smell of smoke bed very uncomfortable
- Eagling (6/5): Pleasant - Location lovely Room was very clean but very small with very small window a little clostaphobic I'm sure the accommodation in other rooms were lighter .
- Ashworth (8/5): Very good -
- Scott (10/5): Excellent - Peaceful Really smart
- Peel (8/5): Very good -
- Ian (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (5/5): Passable - Hayton is a beautiful little place, we chose this overnight stay as it was the nearest to Wiseton Hall where we were attending a function. The room was very basic and run down but you get what you pay for
- Kelly (8/5): Very good - It was to Hot had to open the door in the middle of the night Needed a fan in the room dripping radiator
- Bradie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Cheryl (7/5): Value for a short stop - Beds were super comfortable & parking right outside the room. Very cold and shower was really poor
- James (8/5): A nice out the way pub/restaurant with rooms. - Restaurant and pub very good with generous portions of food. Staff very friendly. Good value for money.
Nice quiet location. Room a little basic. No chairs just the bed to sit on. There was a fridge (very helpful) but it was not connected (not so helpful)! OK for one night but not an extended stay.
- Wijnands (7/5): Lovely place for a great price! - The room was cozy and nice with coffee facilities and a fridge. Roomy enough for two. Beds were great. Personnel were great and we had a lovely meal. Liked to have done some sightseeing as it looked lovely and I can just imagine what a great place this would be in summer! Easily reachable, lovely surroundings, beer garden, great restaurant and room for kids if you have a family. The bathroom was a bit mouldy and sadly no breakfast possible.
- Samantha (5/5): Passable - Location and pub food. Was dusty and dirt blinds, and behind bed. The bed moves when you sit on it so you need to be careful not to fall. The window dropped down as well as it went up and down which fell on my husband's head twice marking the top of his head. The bathroom cupboard door was off on the side of the floor. The mattress needs replacing.
- David (8/5): Very good -
- James (1/5): the toilet seat was broken, internal door loose on top hinge, mini fridge not working. -
- David (9/5): Great location to stay. - Great location Bed was a bit noisy
- Ralph (4/5): Disappointing - This was the nearest hotel with vacancy
Very friendly staff , good food TV in room had broken screen. Toilet seat was detached from toilet bowl. Room was the smallest hotel room I have ever been in . Emergency light LED in room was so bright it was difficult to sleep.
- Sandra (8/5): Very good - It was very comfortable and warm stay, the pub and food were excellent have stayed before and will stay again, Thank you. nothing bad
- James (8/5): Nice restaurant, friendly staff. Value for money - The restaurant is excellent for an evening meal. It would be nice to have a chair in the room and the fridge did not work. With no breakfast offering a working fridge would be very useful.
- William (7/5): Did what it said on the tin - The Boat Inn was good value for money, perfectly serviceable and the bed was very comfy.
We stopped off on our way to Scotland for one night and it didn't disappoint.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Antony (9/5): Great little place for a quiet weekend. - The staff, food, location, and peace and quiet was first class.
The room was a good size for a twin, with hot drink making facilities and a small fridge in the room.
Great price for a weekend stay too. The room is a little tired, and the ensn-suite needs a little attention to the finishing edges, but it was a good size
- Julian (5/5): Great value, hit the spot - Good value One very minor criticism is that the green emergency exit light was quite bright at night. Could be shielded when try to sleep
- Nigel (8/5): Na - Na Na
- Paula (3/5): Poor - Extremely small room which was not clean and needs updating
- Sara (8/5): Very good - Sadly no breakfast offered but everything else was great. Super walks and swim for dog up tow path. Very friendly place Breakfast would be nice. Milk in room for tea as well. WiFi not very good
- John (7/5): What do you expect for £52.50 ? - Given the price, I would rate this as good. It was room only so no breakfast - but what do you expect for £52.50 ? Had breakfast at Retford Wetherspoon's for £4.50, so £57 overall for a booking made 18 hours before arrival is just fine. The bed was very comfortable. Location is
very good - Hayton is off the beaten track, so very low traffic and just passing Geese to disturb the peace. The Boat is a traditional canal-side pub, which - say - 40 years ago - was very busy every night. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case and so it will probably struggle nowadays. The room was small and reached by steep stairs. The bathroom was big but imperfect.
- Helen (4/5): - Property generally needs refurbishing, good cleaning and repairs. Its tired and very basic in contrast to adjoining pub.
You pay for what you get. Suited for an overnight stay for a wedding but no longer. No service as such....but clean towels, fridge and kettle. Take your own milk and plan breakfast locally..10 minute drive to Retford.
- Hannah (7/5): Quaint little stay - Rooms were nice, had comfy beds, tv , fridge and kettle for tea and coffee. The host was lovely, easy check in and out. The rooms were in a separate building to the pub so was nice and quiet. A lovely part of the country. The bed was very squeaky.
Bathrooms could be updated.
- Claire (10/5): - Really enjoyed my stay. Rooms are basic but clean and have everything you need. Bed was comfortable and if I was working in the area again I would book to stay here.
- David (4/5): Disappointing - Restaurant was good. No room heating.
- Lewis (8/5): Good location, plenty of space in room - Good food, good bar. No breakfast, poor/no WiFi
- Pam (8/5): Ideal for our overnight stay. - Room was away from the main inn and very peaceful. Evening meals available if needed.
Very comfortable bed.
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (2/5): Lovely looking pub on the main road. Staff very helpful and informal. Room nice but need some work especially the damp i - Location, staff Room was smelling of damp
WiFi kept on dropping out
Couldn’t get the shower to stay hot
- Michael (1/5): Bad -
