• Mari (8/5): Comfortable stay - Clean, spacious rooms, within a walking distance from the town centre. Friendly staff. Parking available. A wobbly bed that would benefit from a new mattress and pillows. The rooms can be quite chilly if staying in during the day as the heating wasn't on until later in the evening.
• Ruth (10/5): Luxury suite.....fantastic - It was immaculately clean! The suite was spacious, light and had all you need, the host was very welcoming. Thoughtful extras such as a shower cap and plenty of tea, coffee, milk etc. You could easily stay here for 2 weeks or more as there is plenty of space, desk, wardrobe, drawers etc, we stayed in the luxury suite and the layout was fantastic, also you are able to separate the lounge area off from the bedroom if needed, enabling you to watch separate televisions or let one of you sleep whilst the other stays up! Lovely bathroom, shower and a beautiful roll top bath, luxurious! Very difficult to fault anything really, but the kettle needs replacing as the lid and switch are damaged, a small shampoo and conditioner bottle/bar for the bath would have been useful and a few more biscuits welcomed, but these things are easily rectified and most certainly would not prevent us from stopping again or recommending this hotel.

• Paul (3/5): I would kindly suggest that this not a business this owner is suited for and especially as any slight critique is taken - The property is big and spacious. The property is old with a lot of old furniture but every thing is random. A bit like a charity shop. Also it was not cleaned, dusted or hovered. The bathroom had soup was completely out.

• lloyd (3/5): The owner was nice and great location, but unfortunately we wouldn't recommend it or stay again. - Location was good. The owner was very friendly. The bed was very comfortable. The room was very dusty. the wooden furniture, lamps and floors had layers of dust and it was all very cluttered. The outer rim of the shower had previous human hair and dust still on it from before. The rain shower fell off the wall, luckily it was still connected to the water taps in the middle of the wall. The owner 'fixed' it by wrapping sticky tape around it, but it didn't last and it fell off again. We didn't feel it was safe to use after it fell off the second time. There was a hairdryer provided in the room. I used to to dry my hair, but halfway through it started to smell of burning, so I had to switch it off, I didn't use it again. I did notice that there was no PAT test sticker on it. The room just needs extra cleaning. The shower needs fixing properly before it falls on someone's head. The hairdryer needs to be PAT tested. Everything is fixable and the owner is helpful and tries very hard.

The location was close enough to the town and harbour. The staff were extremely friendly and provided plenty of tea/coffee/milk! Just the dated furniture but it was clean.

The breakfast was really tasty and the whole hotel was spotless and fabulously decorated, we will definitely be staying here next time we visit highly recommended

• Astra (10/5): An enjoyable stay and friendly staff, a few more options at breakfast would be nice but overall good - I was pleasantly surprised with the room I booked, it had 2 rooms; a longe area & a bedroom, which was fantastic. Only slight disappointment was that I forgot to include breakfast when I booked, which we had to pay £10 per person for on the day. Entirely my fault. I would always prefer breakfast to be included in future bookings. I would also like to say a big thank you to the staff who allowed us to park for a few hours extra, after check out, in the car park, this made our plans for the day much smoother. As a Deaf person I found them easy to communicate with also using Sign Live on my phone to facilitate this. N/A
• Joshua (10/5): Beautiful stay with character and great host! - Second time staying here, same suite as last time. Host is lovely and very friendly. Suite has a cosy lounge area with a sofa, chair, large antique wardrobe, television and a small fridge. Bedroom has a very comfortable superking bed, vanity, chest of drawers and nice chairs. Bathroom is excellent with an elegant free-standing bath as well as a separate shower. Breakfast was delicious and various options available on request. Car park is a little tight but manageable

• John (10/5): Ascot House Hotel - Upon arrival met by Grace, (owner,housekeeper and cook) with one of the friendliest smiles. Upon entering accommodation tourist information readily available on the right hand side of the entrance, taken to the room by Grace (nice to have done rather than just being told where it is). Room was a deluxe room (number 3) consisting of a lounge, bedroom and en-suite , plenty of storage available, two tvs one in lounge and one in bedroom. The room was spotlessly clean with a large very comfortable bed, a settee and four chairs, tea, coffee and milk was provided in the room along with a fridge. We were asked what time we would like breakfast, breakfast in our case consisted of a good quality thickly cut rasher of bacon, a good well cooked sausage, fried egg, beans, half a tomatoe and mushroom, two slices of toast, butter and choice of jams along with tea, all cooked freshly. I was a little concerned that previous reviews had mentioned a steep drive leading to the hotel but I drive a large family saloon and had no issues going up the drive. Whichever way you leave the hotel to go into Torquay on foot left or right you walk downhill (10 minutes for able bodied) which obviously means yo have to walk uphill to return although there is a very close bus stop to take you into Torquay

• Michelle (5/5): Not as expected - It was easy to find ascot house,free parking The driveway was tight to get out of and that’s with a smallish car,the en-suite in the junior suite is very tiny-my legs touched the door when using toilet,shower cubicle knobs came off when trying to open door and only had hot water for a little while in the morning so no shower before heading out for a meal in the late afternoon. Had to ask for a roll of toilet roll as none in room.

• Rosalind (10/5): Elegant suite in a convenient location - Great value & helpful host. The suite was elegant & spacious, the large terrace balcony was a charming addition. The roll top bath was a real treat. Our host let us leave our bags in a safe place so we could enjoy the rest of our day without being encumbered for which we were most grateful. The checkout time says between 7am and 1pm on booking.com but our host informed us the time is normally 10am. This needs updating as this could be very disruptive.We queried this and she agreed a later checkout at 12 midday & also allowed us to securely store our bags while we enjoyed our last day prior to travelling home that evening, for which we were most grateful. The shower cubicle doors were coming off the runners and leaving gaps if not carefully adjusted. The breakfast ingredients could be higher quality, with perhaps a few options printed to select from, rather than just relying on a discussion with the host.

• Benedict (9/5): Friendly small hotel. - Clean and comfortable. Friendly. Driveway is steep and difficult to access when all parking spaces are taken. Fair walk into town.
• David (7/5): Not deluxe. - Bed was comfortable. Sitting room with couch and coffee table. Good sized fridge for milk and keeping wine chilled. Arrived early and were able to check in early. Landlady nice and cheerful. Shower door didn't shut. Cover on soap dispenser in shower broken. Bath in the bathroom not what I consider a spa bath (no jets) but was just a free standing bath. Curtain holdback hook not attached to wall properly. No breakfast menu (eg didn't know orange juice was available). Not a fan of instant coffee!
• Helen (9/5): Lovely place! - We booked the Gothic Suite, and it was lovely. It's not particularly big, but the decor is sympathetic to the building, and it was quirky and comfortable. There is one car park space for each suite, which is a bonus. The bed was absolutely brilliant, and we slept soundly every night. There really wasn't anything we didn't like, but if mobility is an issue, the slope up to the car park is quite steep (my husband's mobility scooter couldn't manage it), and there are steps up to the entrance, which is at the rear.

And had everything we needed for our 2 night stay. Infact the whole hotel was very clean. Onsite parking was definitely a bonus as was the location of the hotel. I don't think there was anything we didn't like about our stay at the Ascot House Hotel I/we would recommend this hotel as a place to stay in Torquay 😊

• andrew (10/5): Superb stay in Torquay - lovely spacious room, good value considering room is a suite. Very tastefully decorated and presented this is a delightful Victorian period house. Lana ( sorry if spelling is incorrect) the live in maid was very friendly and cooked a very nice full English breakfast each morning and was very helpful in suggesting places to visit. only thing that could be better, was choice of cereals for breakfast was limited and no fruit or pastries / croissants available instead of full English, though to be fair if we had asked for these on arrival I'm sure Lana would have obliged.

Location was ok for town centre, just not a great area few unsavoury people lingering..... view was of a very run down hotel and garden view dirty and overgrown. Rooms are not as the look on the photo, the hall cluttered and very dark, no milk for coffee, rooms could do with updating tired and shabby, shower room really is tiny in the junior suite and again really needs some TLC.😞

• Cheryl (4/5): - We arrived early and were greeted by Lana, who gave us a key to get in when we returned and said that our room would be ready for us in 2 hours. We returned a few hours later and let ourselves in with the key fob given at around 3pm. NO TOWELS, NO HANDWASH, NO Information about breakfast which was extra per person. Curtains hanging from poles, broken hooks. fridge, no fresh milk as stated or water ! After contacting Lana by phone we were told there was no towels because they were still in the tumble drier, and we had to order the breakfast we wanted for a set time. Next morning, no sign of breakfast, other guests told us similar had happened the day before. We left hungry to our AGM without having any sight of Lana or our breakfast. Despite trying to contact her several times, we did not manage to see Lana until we were leaving the next morning, having made alternative arrangements for breakfast. We were basically 'accosted' in the car park by Lana. She had not replied to any email or text message, or answered her phone when i rang when i was available. She should have checked us in on the day and made us aware that we had to pay at the property, we always pay on booking but this was not done, she was trying to make us give a good review saying it was all her fault things went wrong, not the hotel. We were offered things free of charge and a free stay. We won't return and do not recommend this hotel. read reviews first, it has had a fair many hosts it seems - WHY ????

• Susan M (8/5): Great place for a few days break. - Still very comfortable, lovely staff, helpful early check in and late check out. A little run down in places. Just needs a bit of re-painting here and there.

• David (10/5): Beautiful property with exceptional accommodation for the price located conveniently a short walk for the promenade and - Beautiful property with exceptional accommodation for the price - a king size bed, spacious bathroom and comfortable lounge all with high ceilings which make any house feel more spacious. To top it all the housekeeper Lana provided fantastic service and cooked a mean English breakfast with plenty of toast, and fruit juice - a real star, very helpful and a pleasure to meet. Better recycling facilities would be appreciated.
• Andrew (10/5): Great hotel in great location - recommended - Had a very nice overnight stay at Ascot House hotel. Lovely, friendly, young woman greeted us and did everything she could to make us feel very welcome. Hotel is in a great location and our room was very comfortable.
• Anil (10/5): A home away from home - Nice, spacious,very homely and clean rooms. We had a large suite, a new large living room, bedroom with king size bed, and a nice big spacious bathroom. The host was very friendly and helpful. As for breakfast we had English breakfast that was brought to our room, the following day we decided to have breakfast in the dining area.
• Michael (9/5): Value for money tasteful and spacious luxury suite guaranteed excellent nights sleep. - Loved the luxury and tastefully decorated suite and the hotel, just as shown in the pictures. Had a great nights sleep in the enormous bed, loved the separate sitting room, spacious bathroom and two patio doors opening on to the balcony. We would highly recommend it. Breakfast was excellent and the service brilliant. One small point, some toiletries/ bubble bath for guests to use the amazing bath would have made it even better.

• Erin (10/5): Great! Would stay again - Loved the place, really relaxing and the host was amazing. Breakfast was really tasty and we could have it when we wanted too. Really close to the town but not right in the centre so still very peaceful Fresh milk in the room for tea or coffee would have been a nice touch

• Peter (4/5): Won't be returning to this hotel - Nice young lady working there who did her best to make us welcome. The bed was comfortable The pictures on the website flattered the room. It was tired and very dated. There was parking on site, but a very steep drive with limited turning room made it a trial getting in and out. Sited on a busy road, so lots of traffic noise. Cold temperatures in the room

• Ronald Gerritsen (8/5): - De straat/locatie waarin het hotel staat is niet super, maar het hotel zelf ziet er netjes uit. En binnen was het prima. Leuk en sfeervol ingericht. we hadden de "luxe suite" en die was prima en lekker ruim; een apart zit- en slaapgedeelte. Goede badkamer, alleen de douche was wat krap. De kamer was netjes en fris. Goed ontbijt, de avond voorafgaand even opgeven wat je wilt.
