Guest Reviews
- janet (6/5): Disappointing - Looks better on the outside than the inside. Good it has parking, friendly manager, well positioned and decent breakfast. HOwever, room with broken sink, no hot water in the evening for a bath(no shower), windows don't open properly - have to try and wedge open, and bed far from great.
- Gabrielle (10/5): - Charming with great location.
- Mrs M W (8/5): - A good place for our overnight stay. The bed was massive and comfortable. Room was clean as was en-suite although a shower would improve this setting.
Breakfast was good and host was amicable.
- David (8/5): - Lovely big room and bed. Not a proper shower, it was a bath combo and no screen.
- Heather (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable would go back
- Gillian (6/5): - There was plenty of free parking.
The room was spacious but smelled like wet dog. The window didn’t open (probably deliberately) but there was no fan in the bathroom. There was nowhere to put any toiletries in the bathroom; a shelf would be a useful addition. There was a shower attachment on the bath taps but nowhere to hook it up and no shower curtain so taking a shower was impossible without getting everywhere wet through.
Breakfast was good. Lots of choice and the food was good.
- Martyn (10/5): East Coast Hospitality - Great hotel, very friendly owner and nice room, what more could you want, oh yes, a brilliant breakfast
- Lesley (10/5): - Very comfortable and lovely room and breakfast. Stayed here before and was great!
- Motilal (6/5): - Too small and confined. Not to the standards.
- Annette (10/5): - Host was welcoming, everything you need for a night, a love breakfast.
- Lynnette (6/5): - The staff were friendly, lovely and clearly trying hard.
However, our sink in the room was cracked and not a proper shower and I couldn’t be bothered to use the bath.
Breakfast was okay but it was too greasy for me and no yogurts but rice pots?
It was okay.
- Catherine (10/5): - Excellent central location, free parking.
- Lesley (10/5): Amazing stay! - We had a wonderful stay at the Bridge. Lovely comfy huge bed! Beautiful bedroom. It was quiet and great location - very short walk to pubs, restaurants and local shops. The staff member we met not sure if it was the owner was very welcoming. Delicious full breakfast. Will definitely be back there.
- Kevin (8/5): Nice little town - Nice stay and great to walk around the town.
- Laura (10/5): Highly recommended. - Hans is an excellent host, willing to go the extra mile. Room was spacious, beds comfortable and bathroom spotless. Breakfast buffet style and excellent. Would definitely recommend a stay at The Bridge Guest House.
- Tim (10/5): - Perfect, welcoming, nice B&B. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay.
- Rebecca (10/5): - Very friendly host and fun old decor, thumbs up 👍
- penelope (6/5): - Unique, felt like the home of an outdoorsman.
Rom was damp and musty smelling. No shower. Windows painted shut.
Breakfast was nice, host was very nice.
- donald (10/5): - Restored 1816 inn, locally family owned and run. Picturesque village. In an area seeped in history. One of the best hotel experiences i have ever had in my 79 years.
- ALLISON (10/5): Helmsdale Holiday - Our stay was lovely our room was beautiful and the host Hans was absolutely superb, nothing was to much trouble. He was welcoming friendly and chatty.
The only downside with our room was there was only 1 socket in the room.(Difficult when both needing phones and electrical equipment charged. Also the room did not have a mirror.
- Hannah (10/5): Nice place to stay. - Lovely location, quirky place.
- Brian (8/5): - Ideal location if on the NC 500 good walks around and beautiful scenery
- Gillian (10/5): Trip - Great room and lovely breakfast with fantastic host. Thank you
- Charles (10/5): - a
- Michael (10/5): - Really good stay
- terence (10/5): - Good friendly host with good passionate local knowledge. Nice decor touches in lounge. Great location to tour
- Alan (10/5): Top guest house - Quick check-in, and friendly service.
Very clean and great location.
- Martin (8/5): - Nice big room in a lovely building.
- Lucy (10/5): A great B&b - A great place to stay.
- Claire (10/5): Fantastic stay - Had a lovely stay in the family room which was massive, there was loads of space and one room had an enormous double bed with an adjoining room with two very comfy single beds. Great nights sleep had by all and a lovely breakfast in the morning what more can you ask for.
- Benjamin (10/5): - Lovely building and great location!
- Dennis (10/5): My stay - Relaxed and friendly host, quint oldly style place but loved it!
Great shower, great breakfast
- Jayne (10/5): - Stayed one night as a stopover Room was very clean and comfortable. Good breakfast the next morning. Would recommend if needing a place to stay in Helmsdale
- Gunter (4/5): - Not worth the money. No mirror in room, only one chair in couples room.
- Campbell (10/5): Perfect place to stay in Helmsdale! - What a fabulous, quirky, and old fashioned place, run by a very friendly owner, who rustles up a very tasty breakfast. Highly recommended if you need a place to stay in the area, and you're on a budget, great value for money. It's also very handy for the railway station, just 5 minutes walk.
- Wendy (10/5): Gem of a place - Super old listed building (with free parking opposite), wonderfully run by Hans (and his trusty sidekick, Highland Terrier 'Hiro'). Hans is full of local knowledge and is happy to make reccomendations for highland travel/activities. We had a big room with king sized bed, big TV in the spotlessly clean accomodation. There is a lovely sitting area in reception which houses a roaring fire and is perfect for reading the local news, for which papers are in abundance. Our only complaint would be the lack of a fixture for the shower head and a shower curtain. This didn't impact for a two night stay but could be an inconvenience for a longer stay. Breakfast is plentiful (buffet style) and served in a delightful dining room. Wouldn't hesitate to return
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very pleasant. - Well renovated and maintained period property. Spacious bedroom and nice cosy lobby seating area with open fire. Large comfortable bed. Not all rooms seem to have a shower so check if you prefer one to a bath. The bedroom could be improved by the addition of a chair and the breakfast whilst plentiful would benefit from fresh fruit and less sugary cereal and yoghurt choices. But a very pleasant stay and I would book again if returning to the area.
- Stephen (8/5): Good place to stop - Clean comfortable room, good breakfast. Good stop on the way to John O Groats
- Tabitha (10/5): - Lovely place to stay, very quiet, great views, very comfortable bed and plenty hot water!
- William (10/5): A place to return to - I am already recommending The Bridge Guest House to friends and family. Good scenic location, just off main road, with parking to rear, shops, restaurant, etc, nearby as well as walks and interesting things to see. The exterior of the building is immaculate, and the interior has the ambience and comfortable look that you would expect from an establishment that proudly proclaims its pedigree. The large Chesterfield couches, invite you to sit down, and there is an open fireplace for evenings. Our room was airy, spacious and tastefully decorated. Bathroom also high ceilinged and decorated in classic tiling and retro green. Fittings of highest quality. Bed and pillows very comfy. Good choice at breakfast, excellent service. Best of all the relaxed, friendly atmosphere, with much more privacy than a B&B or a hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great room v good value friendly staff
Only thing I would suggest is a mirror in the bedroom for drying hair
Otherwise excellent stay.
- Julia (8/5): Good stopover - Good breakfast, helpful host, very clean room. Only downside was my room was up 2 flights of stairs.
- Felicity (8/5): Well situated but harmed by Covid - Impressing old building but in need of a little tlc. It was obvious that there had been little trade for sometime (due to Covid restrictions) so was not fully geared up to welcome guests. It has the potential to be a lovely hotel but needs investment (difficult in the current situation). However we enjoyed our stay and will return if we come to this part of the world again.
- Anne (8/5): Nice stay. - Room was clean, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Hotel is in a quiet location and in a nice spot and close to the shops in the small village. No evening meals or bar, but open cosy fire and sumptuous sofas.
- Paul (10/5): Excellent place to stay - Excellent in every way. Friendly host, comfortable room, good breakfast
- Simon (10/5): Great stay - A very comfortable stay. Very friendly staff and great breakfast. Would recommend it.
- philip (10/5): - Very good stay! Very nice owner and great food. Would highly recommend!
- Verified traveler (8/5): NC500 stop over - An ideal stop over point for anyone travelling on the NC500. Clean room, nice breakfast, great service.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice guest house in a beautiful small town. Good breakfast.
- John (10/5): Worth going out of your way to stay here - My initial thoughts were to shy away from a "Guest House" but am I glad we stayed here. The host is a lovely man welcoming and kind. the building is superb recently renovated with quality fixtures and fittings. Wherever you look you see quality. Our bedroom was very large with large bathroom, it was clean and comfortable. We had private parking for my motorcycle. the breakfast was buffet style and was fantastic. Theres a choice of places for your evening meal all with 100 yards. We ate at the Bannockburn and had the best steak pie I can remember.
- neil (10/5): - Lovely location, super helpful staff. Rooms were very clean, beds very comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. Very very accommodating and highly recommend to all. Prices very reasonable as well.
- Jim (10/5): - When I arrived at the guest house was met with friendly helpful staff especially in these unprecedented times. The room was
clean, warm and bright. Brilliant and plentiful choice of food for breakfast to set you up for the day..
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Our arrival was late from a long and cold motorcycle journey. Our warm welcome and immediate selection of a room with a bath was greatly appreciated with the offer of a hot drink. The room was warm and clean and ideally suited for us. We had eaten earlier but a quick summary of available food and drinks nearby was great. A good sleep in a very comfy bed saw us start the next day with a lovely breakfast and a sunny but frosty morning. Thankyou.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely hotel, comfiest bed yet - lovely staff, wonderful breakfast. Would definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Comfortable and most staff friendly and helpful. Property is old, but renovated and well maintained with good off road parking.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Dan was really welcoming when we arrived and helpful with directions to local attractions. He was also really keen to suggest stops g or our next day travelling .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Central, historic building. Relaxed atmosphere. Very spacious family room. Comfy beds. Friendly welcome. Good wifi. Great breakfast. Would happily come again.
- Derek (10/5): Great place to stay - Very good and convenient place to stay on the NC500 route. It has recently been refurbished. Lots to see nearby. The only drawback about the room was that there were no chairs in the room. However the landlady says they will be putting some in soon.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Right in the middle of town steps to restaurants; very helpful and informative reception person. Large room with large bathroom; simple decor; very clean & crisp sheets; fabulous full Scottish breakfast in historic dining room; c1800's hotel. No elevator as it's historic;. Lovely blazing fireplace in spacious comfy lounge area where you can interact with other guests. We loved it! 10/10. Good NC500 stop.
