Guest Reviews
- heather (3/5): Loud - uncomfortable and lacking in hospitality - Location is fantastic - sadly that’s the only positive.. Location
- FRANKLIN (8/5): - Great property- only thing that gave us problems was that we could not get the hot water to heat up
- Thomas (6/5): - The location was ideal for being downtown, which made exploring the area very convenient. However, several aspects of our stay were disappointing.
Parking is limited to a nearby parking deck, which costs $24 per night—not unreasonable for the area, but worth noting.
The bathroom had visible signs of mold that appeared to be painted over, and the toilet’s flush mechanism was broken—we had to manually adjust it to make it work. The air conditioner rattled loudly throughout the night, which made sleeping difficult.
For the price, it would have been nice to have a couple bottles of water provided. Also, finding the unit was confusing—while the notes mentioned “building 30,” the entrance was actually the unmarked door on the left.
This place has potential, but some basic maintenance and added attention to guest comfort would go a long way.
- Carnel (6/5): - Property listing is misleading in that it shows photos of a full kitchen but our room was only a bedroom and small bathroom at the top of several stairs. Listing mentions daily housekeeping service, but no one came at all during our stay to replenish towels or to empty out waste bins. Two adults shared a total of 3 bath towels, one hand towel and two washcloths for a 3-night stay. There is moldy grout in the shower. The AC unit is extremely noisy, but the room does maintain a good temp. When we arrived the code we were issued was not correct and we had to call to get a new one. They did at least answer the phone promptly and were polite. I will say, the room is in a great location within walking distance of many shops and restaurants. If you care mostly about location and are okay with a small space and limited staff to help freshen up, this would be a great spot.
- Svetlana (1/5): Horrible - nothing The room we booked through booking.com was not at all what was featured in the photos. Kitchen facilities as they called it were a toaster, a coffee maker and a tiny refrigerator that did not work properly. The photos showed a microwave, full fridge, cooktop and oven. When we complained to Vendue, we were told that booking.com has confused the photographs. We did not want to spend even one night and contacted Booking.com. They contacted Vendue and told us that Jake would be contacting us. We never heard from him.The coffee maker in in the room did not work and it was green and moldy we had to wash it . The room provided instructions for a room with a kitchen but we did not have a kitchen, had dishwashing soup, and dishwashing pods but no dishwasher, also a dishwashing towel. Room had a musty feel and a smell. The bed comforter had stains on it made it look disgusting. The fridge was so small ( hotels actually have a bigger fridge). We brought food because we were thinking we have a room with a kitchen and when we arrived we were surprised that we did not have it. We tried to put our food in the freezer and it did not really work because all our food went bad. My feeling is that booking.com should remove this property from their listing because of false advertising, blaming Booking.com, and lack of response to a complaint. We believe that your company is much better than this property.
- Scott (9/5): Very nice place in a great location. I’ve stayed in many hotels in Charleston, loved this place. - Great location. Very nice place. The WiFi didn’t really work.
- Jim (4/5): - The location was great, right downtown, but the noise from the AC compressor on the roof was unbearable.
- Denise (7/5): Good - Location and space (2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with kitchen and sofa). Noise. We could hear people staying on second floor walking around and leaving/ entering building. Also there wasn’t a lot of natural light and broken screens in windows.
- Andrew (8/5): - Good location, able to walk to most locations.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (7/5): Good -
- Lisa (9/5): Overall we had a great time… again loved the location. Everything was walkable. - Location A couple of complaints. No daily fresh towels. Complementary bottles of water would have been nice. We came in late and had nowhere to purchase bottle of water.
- Maureen (6/5): Pleasant - moldy smell
- Janice (8/5): We had a good time in Charleston. It was our first time there. - The property was nice. We had plenty of room. The parking garage is a scam. Ignore the 18 max per day rate if you use your car at all. It is not true. Cost a lot to park there.
- Lynn (9/5): The Quarters on Vendue is a perfect place to stay with multiple family members. - The location was perfect. One block from the pier and Pineapple Fountain. Walking distance to pretty much everything. The Quarters were just enough space for me, my husband and our daughter. Very comfortable and room for everyone. The toilets are extremely uncomfortable. There was a plank in the wood floor that was broken and I stubbed my toe multiple times.
- Yaden (5/5): Passable - Location Coffee pot not working
- Penny (10/5): Would absolutely book this location again! - Amazing location, perfect size for our group of 4. Private baths in each bedroom were nice. Super helpful staff that responded quickly. The locks on main ground floor entrance weren’t very secure.
- Bradford (6/5): CHS lacks value. - Location. And the bed was comfy. Cost and noise. The street noise is very loud. But the AC noise (we think it’s the AC, not sure) is absurd.
It’s not a $525/night experience.
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ashley (7/5): Great location, Comfortable, Clean but Overpriced. - Best part about this property is the location. The bedding was also very nice and luxurious and the place was clean. The bathroom was also upgraded which was a nice touch. For the value, this place didn't deliver. It was the same price as other hotels in the area that had pools and were much nicer. We went to breakfast at the Mill House, which was the same price, and I regret not staying here. The hallway needs a massive upgrade and felt cheap. The room itself was just average. Charleston is so hot in the summer, might as well get somewhere with a pool for the same price.
- Leslie (4/5): Highly dissatisfied - Location. Bed was comfortable. Got there about 2:30, check in not until three. Had to leave luggage in front of building to go park car. Front door wouldn't open (with code) until 3:00. Got in the building door but room door wouldn't open with code. No phone number on email communications, just an address. went to the hotel across the street to use WIFI and found 2 phone numbers. Took over an hour to get someone on the phone who then programed the right room door code. Room was small, no access to ice, no desk or table and stairs to the bathroom. Not worth $400.00 per night plus paying for parking.
- Kristine (8/5): We enjoyed it very much and would consider staying there again if and when we return to Charleston. - The beds were very comfortable and we really like having two bedrooms and suite. The location in Charleston was also great. The amount of amenities provided were a little bit on the inadequate side. We had one hairdryer between the two rooms and one hand soap in one of the bathrooms, and none in the other. The toilet paper was of poor quality and a little bit short on quantity. The one sitting chair in the living room was too large for the space and very heavy to move and the large chair in one of the bedrooms took up too much space and was not needed. Adding luggage racks for four people would be helpful since there is no place to put the suitcases , except on the floor.
- Shane (7/5): All about the location! - Location! Check-in process was extremely unclear, stair railing broken (extreme safety hazard), misleading photos when booking room, air conditioner was loud and always making clicking/ticking noise.
- Rebecca (6/5): Would have not booked had I known about the stairs. Good location and was clean. - It was pretty, clean and the bed was comfortable. No idea that I had to go up 3 flights of stairs.
- Geri (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dan (7/5): Good - Toilet is broken, air conditioner makes a hell of a noise.
- Alan (10/5): Great experience - It was a lovely room in a great location. Centrally located. One of only 3 rooms in the building. It was comfortable and spacious!! We received numerous emails with information and instructions, all easy to follow. The parking garage was around the corner and easily accessible. And, after leaving, I realized I left a few articles of clothing in the closet which they quickly mailed out to me. An overall great experience!!!
- Susan (8/5): We enjoyed it - Location Needed bigger sofa
- Lindsay (3/5): Location was great but I won’t stay again - It was beautiful and the location was great There was a very strong smell of mildew as soon as we walked in. When we got home everything I took with me had to be washed because it smelled like mildew. The sheets and comforter had stains on them as well.
- William (4/5): - Had no water pressure for sink. No hand soap. Silverfish insects in room. Floor was wet. Total cost with fees was over priced for the area. Parking for one day was over priced.
- Simon (7/5): Good -
- Anonymous (9/5): Absolutely loved our stay! Will try to book on our return visit! - Location was absolutely perfect. Literally steps from the harbor and shops/ food in both directions. Lively during the day but still quiet. Very quiet at night even on Friday and Saturday!! The actual unit was smaller than expected but in immaculate condition. The bed was one of the coziest beds! Being pregnant, that is a huge thing for me! I had the best nights sleep both nights. There was a water pressure issue our first night. Toilet wouldn’t flush due to lack of water in the tank. Sink and shower flow was barely anything :/ All was back to normal in the morning though!
- Monica (3/5): Poor -
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (10/5): Great Stay - The home was a beautiful older home. Very well kept on the inside. When I first saw the outside I was little worried but that all went away the moment we stepped foot inside. Close to everything in the area. Highly recommend. Parking was a little tight but we greatly enjoyed our stay.
- John (8/5): A nice stay, if not for water pressure I would return. - The location was nice, air conditioning worked well. It was comfortable and quiet. There was hardly any water pressure, it almost dripped out of the kitchen sink. The television in one of the bedrooms did not work.
- Kathleen (4/5): would not return - good location it smelt of mold everywhere. even coming back our luggage still had a stench. they try to cover up the smell in the rooms with cleaning supplies.
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Yaprak (5/5): Passable -
- Melissa (6/5): just ok - location excellent, convenient to everything street noise and cleanliness
- Jeffery (7/5): Good -
- T (9/5): Great location for all that Charleston has to offer. - incredible location. well worth paying a bit more for. it is a bit expensive. Also found it hard to operate showers. could do with instructions instructing guests to pull out faucets.
- Marjorie (8/5): Very good -
- Kelly (8/5): Very good -
- Geri (8/5): great property! - location was fantastic. staff was amazing. only complaints are that the storage for hanging options was horrible. only three hangers available for two people in a hutch not meant to be used as a hanging-clothes storage. top drawer in chest of drawers has a giant staple sticking out which thankfully I avoided snagging and ruining clothes. didn’t have time to deal with it and as a result didn’t use drawer. had to live out of suit cases on the floor which took up floor space. very crowded and clumsy for us as a result. also, somehow a roach about four inches long and 1-1/2 inches wide got into the room. my husband killed it. I thought I was going to die when I saw it. I realize we’re close to the water and likely not a usual condition of the property. otherwise the room was pristine and comfortable. also, instructions to enter the property should mention that the door to enter is the door without the address, on the left front of the property. it’s scary to not be able to access the door marked “30” as that is the property address.
- Kimberly (5/5): location great but wouldn’t stay here again due to the living area - clean, bathrooms nice Living Area WAY TOO SMALL, felt so claustrophobic!! no need to have such a big island
- Leah (4/5): the customer service person I spoke with told me a credit. would be given. this never happened - Location was great. good job on renovation air conditioning went down first day we were there. Technician came to fix but couldn’t. Portable air conditioners had hot air coming out back. work up to 82 degrees in the morning
As we looked closer a poor job was done on cleaning.
- Katherine (9/5): Great spot to stay for visit to fun of Charleston. - The location was excellent. A few blocks from the heart of the restaurant and shopping area which was great. Easy nice walk and location near water was nice.
- Jennifer (1/5): left after 1st night due to a major safety concern - location and charming area property was unsafe and not secure- no staff on premises and a tour vendor out front of the building had access to the building and property mgmt company reported they didn’t know or realize this when we reported a major safety concern
- Amanda (9/5): perfect location, walking distance to many restaurants and sights, apartment was perfect for a family of 5 (3 teenage bo - pleasant interaction with staff, convenient location, beautiful apartment back room was difficult to cool and wifi in the back room was weak during peak usage times
- Thomas (7/5): it was fine - location was great, it was clean no breakfast, handrail in the stair well was broken, the code for the keypad didn't work, need more outlets, need a desk, the bathroom was up a flight of stairs, no one on staff at the building
- Catherine (9/5): The Quarters on Vendue is a great place to stay to experience the charm of Charleston. - The place was exactly as represented. It was comfortable, charming and in a great location. The place had a bad odor from the prior guests that housekeeping should have done more to eliminate. The place appeared clean and was well-equipped, but the bad smell keeps me from giving the Quarters a better rating.
- Ryan (8/5): Very good -
- Lisa (7/5): Good -
- Karen (10/5): This is my go to place to stay when visiting Charleston. - location and layout of the apartment loved everything
- Kathleen (6/5): Convenient and fine - Location was perfect and size was as expected. Also, the staff on the phone was accommodating and responsive with arranging a late check out. It was not very clean. We had to call for a cleaner to come back, and asked that she come in an hour when we would be out. She came while we were there and stated she was the manager, and was unprofessional by hotel/hospitality standards.
- Heather (6/5): - This is not a boutique hotel as advertised. This is really more of an Airbnb. While I love staying in Airbnb spaces, for this trip we wanted the hotel. The Quarters on Vendue does not have a front desk, valet, housekeeping, fresh towels, water availability, concierge services, etc of a true boutique hotel. We had the room on the second floor with an assigned code to enter both the room and the building. The photos shown on the booking site do not reflect what we received. There is no seating area, kitchen area, etc in rental space assigned to us for our trip. We only had a bedroom and bathroom (mold in the shower, lights not working, and weird toilet seat) which did not include a table or place to put our luggage other than the floor. When we arrived after a long day of travel, our room had not been cleaned. The on duty person (reached via phone) offered to have someone come right away. The room was cleaned by 5p and the management offered a slight discount for the inconvenience. The location was great! Walkable to everything we wanted to see - the market, tons of restaurants and rooftop decks, the provost, the battery, rainbow row, the many churches, and waterfront park. In the end, we thought we were getting boutique hotel but ended up in an airbnb.
- Bret (8/5): Very good -
- Cameron (8/5): - Great spot for our honeymoon. Perfect location in the French Quarter. We had the top suite, which was everything we needed. 3 flights of stairs and no elevator, but we didn’t mind much. Cozy for just us with plenty of space, don’t know how it would’ve felt if we had another couple in the second room.
We had a little trouble getting in our first night but that was mostly miscommunication from booking via third party site. There’s no one on site for later check in, so just be sure to call ahead day-of to get your room info (before 7pm).
- Vlaar (8/5): Very good - Excellent location. Clean unit, well organized. Small bathroom vanities. Wireless in back bedroom not good. Sets of stairs to unit (no elevator).
- Verret (6/5): Great value with some compromises - The location was great and the office was willing to help us sort out our check in & out time based on our flights when I asked consistently. Communication was a bit iffy at times. They agreed to let us check out late, but did not notify the cleaning crew because they showed up asking us about us still being there. As much as they told us they work around their cleaning crew, the apartment we stayed in was not very clean. There was a build up of dust & dirt on multiple surfaces and both showers had obvious mold in the grout of the tiles.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (9/5): it was a good location…close proximity to the family wedding venue, - the property was very nice! It was ridiculously expensive!!
- Marlene (7/5): Good - Spacious rooms. No view. Took dark.
- Diana (10/5): couldn’t have asked for more! - the unit was perfect size and fully equipped. location was also perfect. would absolutely book there again. thank you!
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb - absolutely beautiful, excellent location there was no where to put the trash except the hallway ( where they said to leave it) but no one ever picked it up
- Anonymous (9/5): we throughly enjoyed our stay and will be returning. - it was beautiful and comfortable we could not get in the room… the code wasn’t working. I think the problem is that we couldn’t get in touch with anyone through phone call or messaging.
we were very fortunate that we saw the cleaning lady as she was leaving another room and she was able to assist us. otherwise I’m not sure what we would have done.. bc we never heard back.
- Patricia (6/5): - Loved location and the gentlemen that stored our luggage were great. Whoever answered my texts were very prompt and accommodating
The shower had mold
Only one set of towels
No bottled water
Cleaning and trash service only when inquired about it
Only one bar of soap
Lots of steps just to get to room. hard on my husbands shattered ankle.
Exterior door would not lock
- mark (10/5): - Quaint & comfortable room. Nicely decorated. Not handicapped accessible as bathroom was upstairs.
- Sarah (8/5): - The space was great and very convenient to town. The biggest issue was the thermostat was stuck at 76 and would not cool down, so it was very hot. One of the showers was also clogged and didn't drain properly.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Cool room but beware of construction going on! - The room was pretty cool however if your looking for a quiet room, this is not the one for you. They are doing hotel construction directly across the street and it it starts at 5:45 AM every day, had I known this I would not have booked this room. I was disappointed at check in, our room was not ready until about 5:30, they hotel did offer a bit of a discount but I'm not exactly sure how we will receive this since it went thru Hotels.com. The Hotel It is centrally located to just about everything, parking is a bit tricky, do not park in the garage at Cumberland st., park in the garage 2 blocks East of Vendue St. (next to the Dungeon), it's 18.00 per day.
- Laurie (10/5): - Quiet clean accommodations.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - You have a private small apartment in the heart of Charleston. You have to negotiate 1 or 2 flights of stairs which is key for guests to know. Very clean modern bathrooms/kitchen, plentiful closets for clothing. The furniture/ window treatments/ rugs are a bit tired and the living areas need a good dusting, fabric cleaning. The remote check-in process is a bit odd, and the personnel are a mixed bag, some very helpful, others not. It's like staying in an apartment for rent that needs a little more TLC. Because of the super location and because the bathrooms, kitchen and bedroom linens were so clean, I'd stay there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was just the type of accommodations we needed. We knew we would not be in our room very much so did not need all of the bells and whistles. The room was lovely, bed was extremely comfortable, everything was clean, and it had exactly what we needed. Excellent central location. Next time we would book the double room suite with the kitchen. if you book you need to know that there is no one on premises to assist you, it is completely self service. Parked parked in the parking garage around the corner. I would stay here again.
- Amy (10/5): Location! Location!! Location!!! - This place is SO charming and you can’t beat the location! It is in an original, older building so there’s a slight smell, but nothing offensive or overly off putting. It’s been COMPLETELY modernized and beautifully appointed. It’s within walking distance to SO much of what Charleston has to offer; great pubs, restaurants, Pineapple Fountain, The Market, Rainbow Row, all of it! We would stay here again in a heartbeat!
- Robin (10/5): Charleston Charm - This was a beautiful room in a great location. I wish the outside door was fixed and more secure from passers by. Overall would stay there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place! - The property was in great condition and a great price point for the area if you need two rooms as we did. The only issue I has was that I had not received the access codes & check in information prior to arrival. I had to place a phone call to have them email the info to me.
- Frank (6/5): ice place but a few issues - Stayed in Suite 202 July 20-22. Excellent location; this place looks beautiful and has nice furniture and fixtures.
However, there is a notice posted inside the kitchen and living room area that advises guests not to set the a/c temperature below 72 degrees or there could be problems. We prefer it cooler than 72 at night during the sleeping hours so this was a bit uncomfortable. Wifi is included and worked well in the living room and first bedroom but did not work in the second bedroom. The hot water was great in the kitchen and first bathroom but there was no hot water in the second bathroom shower. I mentioned these issues when calling to checkout and in a follow up email sent a day ago. At this point there has been no response from their staff.
Note that this room is up stairs and there are no windows in either bedroom. There is a window in the living room and in the hallway to the bedrooms. There was no ladder attached outside either window and with only one stairway to enter the suite, there may be a safety concern.
- Destin (4/5): - The apartment was beautiful. Just lacked many necessities. No extra toilet paper. We were given half a roll for both bathrooms. One shower gathers water at the feet and there were no shower toiletries in one bathroom. Also the dishwasher was still dirty and we had to ask for more detergent and soap to re wash them. Broken wine glasses left only one in tact. They advise you not to turn the ac lower than 72° because it will freeze. Other than that pillows were amazing and beds were big. Not worth the money in my opinion. Great location though and private check in and access.
- KyleEdmondson (2/5): - The room across from was throwing a party through out the night, making noise all the way up until 3 in the morning, I even found where they put holes in the dry wall downstairs. I called and told management about how terrible the stay was and they didn’t seem concerned about my experience, saying “yeah it happens sometimes”. I wouldn’t stay here ever again.
- Gary (8/5): - Great location. Just rooms no other amenities all services. Walk out the door and everything is right there.
