- TimewarpRemy (10/5): -
- Marta (9/5): Increïble! Lo recomendaria - Localizacion y que era una casa tradicional muy bien cuidada Nada
- Bronwyn (9/5): Here for 5 days, was a beautiful house, with lovely features. - Heated flooring was wonderful to walk on, also two toilets a must for 5 adults.
The bathroom was beautiful. Very little space for hanging clothes to dry and there is no dryer.
- Timothy (10/5): Beautiful house with noble materials and a nice garden - Beautiful Bathroom area was cold
- Quah (9/5): - Easy access. Limited eateries.

- Fong (8/5): This is a fantastic experience living in a traditional machiya outfitted with modern facilities, the host is very respon - The property was very spacious and we enjoyed the experience of living in a traditional machiya, it has modern facilities with a full written manual on how to use all appliances in the house. The communal areas were very nice and the property is well prepared for groups of travellers. The property can be a bit noisy for people sensitive to noise, the walls are thin and there is a bar next door which receives stock early in the morning and a lot of foot traffic, for some people in our group this was a problem. The beds provided were also very creaky and the property had a bit of a stench when entering
- Stephen (9/5): Tachibana-an was a great place for our large family to stay while exploring heartwarming Kyoto. - Excellent location in quiet part of Kyoto with easy access to subway and shops Could have more glasses and coffee/tea cups and larger bowls for families that cook meals more often
- Aloysius (10/5): Great traditional property in a really nice area. - Great traditional property in a really nice area. The rubbish bins were a bit too small to accommodate rubbish for a group of 5
- craig (10/5): - We had a great time here
- Malcolm (10/5): Authentic Japanese living - Great hotel and very like real Japan as opposed to bland hotels. Could do with dusting in places like all the wooden slatted doors but overall a great place to stay
- Raphaella (10/5): - the comfort of the house nothing
- XU (7/5): -
- Asahina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andy (10/5): Fab, wish we’d stayed longer. - We wanted traditional and this didn’t disappoint. Found it a bit difficult to find from where we were. When you click on the map link on booking.com we were unable to see where we were.
- Melanie (10/5): Perfect authentic place! - I have to say 100% to the people who run it fantastic! And the property itself out of this world, reminded me of old Japan with amazing zen garden and bathroom to the beautiful rooms upstairs I'd recommend this every day of the week The whole place to ourselves was amazing value everything we wanted was there and the great instructions
They couldn't have made our stay better we'll be using here again
- Hogesd (1/5): Avoid!! - Location and authenticate home Lots of paperwork and instructions sent to email. Didn't see email and as such in arrival were kept outside in the cold with young daughters. They insisted we fill out a form. We had basic wifi no phone and it was now dark and cold. Finally had to pay a tax then we're allowed the code.
The extra bed was a thin mattress on the floor.
The internal stairs were very small and steep. Not a good place if you are 6 ft tall.
The shower drain was blocked.
The downstairs heater did not work effectively.
Avoid this place.
They did not care we were outside in the cold despite messaging with them.
A terrible experience.
- Oscar (2/5): - property is too cold, walls are thin, and the property isn’t the best compared to the pictures
- Mark (8/5): Very nice but not great value - Nice location and reasonably well renovated Machiya. The English address was wrong. It was difficult to find.
- Tudor (7/5): Good - This apartment is an authentic Japanese living place, as the pictures show it. It is well equipped for a few days stay, including a coffee machine and the right dishes. Also a washing machine, quite practical if you translate the control keys from Japanese. The bathroom and sanitary are fine. Mind the stairs ! Except at the entrance for the coats, there were no available cupboards to store the clothes, we had to leave them in the suitcase during the stay. The cupboards are full with boxes and available tatamis. They are dusty. The beds creak. The apartment is situated at about 4km from Kyoto railway station and public transportation is quite far away. But taxis are quite available and affordable. All in one the place would need to be renovated a little bit in order to be more comfortable.
- Kieren (10/5): Perfect house - This place is truly beautiful. A wonderful "traditional" Japanese house but with all the modern things you could hope for. It's also about 2 minutes walk from the imperial gardens
Cannot recommend this place enough. Honestly, nothing. It was great.
- Bonnie (10/5): We enjoyed our time with family in this home and exploring Kyoto. - Very spacious. Lovely traditional Japanese style with a small garden. Would have been better if the tv was downstairs.
- Stuart (10/5): - Great spot in a quiet neighborhood. Very unique place to stay.
- Jami (9/5): a fantastic property that i would definitely book again - located in quiet neighbourhood, and a nice, survivable walk away from the train and bus stations (less than 10 minutes). it is located right next to a shrine and the Kyoto Imperial Palace.
the property itself is absolutely stunning and so, so comfortable to stay in. we had plenty of space for 5 guests and we really felt at home with the cozy and heavily Japanese-inspired interior. the property was overall quite clean, besides one of the rooms, and clean towels were provided. there was plenty of privacy between rooms, but also an inviting common area for friends to unwind & share snacks and stories after a long day of travelling. would highly recommend this place and i would genuinely book this property again given the chance. the paint on the wall in one of the rooms was falling off a bit, and since our futon was right up against the wall, i would notice some paint flakes in my bed when i woke up in the morning. the thought of falling paint on me was slightly disgusting, but it wasn't the worse thing in the world. i have to emphasise that the rest of the property was superb and extremely clean.
- Miquel (9/5): Great place. Location not for beginners. - The place is nice, confortable, and great if you want to experience kyoto and you already know the city. If it is your first time, there are better location to take the most out of your time. The place is nice, confortable and a great option to experience the Japanese lifestyle.
- Sandra (9/5): My party of five had a terrific stay in Kyoto and thoroughly recommend this property. - Quiet location. Great facilities. A fantastic traditional Japanese house. Nothing
- Suny (10/5): Subarashii - Traditional with the luxuries of modern amenities including underfloor heating ! Difficult getting in initially with miscommunication regarding accessibility
- Abigail (8/5): Abigail Ho Kyoto Hanare review - It was very peaceful, very nice and comfortable for my group. The location was very dark and quiet at night.
- Jim (9/5): Superb -
