- Ivonne (10/5): Birder's Haven - As a very keen birder, I was given exact locations and instructions on where to find my target species - all of which I found, and more.
The bed was comfortable with feather duvet, electric blanket, etc. Free WiFi, and well-equipped kitchen. We had an excellent stay!
- Pierr (10/5): A great experience - The hospitality of the host and her approach to making our stay a pleasant one Nothing
- Claudia (10/5): Solitary Paradise - The farm is located far away from the nearest town. It is an absolutely wonderful gem. The hospitality was outstanding and the food was wonderful.
- Stephanie (10/5): Beautiful location, spacious, and warm hospitality - Beautiful location, spacious, and warm hospitality
- Olivier (10/5): -
- Lauren (10/5): Peaceful and Picturesque Stay - We had a great stay and Lizelle and Davie were lovely hosts. We had opted for dinner as an extra and it was absolutely delicious! The accommodation was clean and beds/ pillows were very comfortable and the Wi-Fi was good. Sadly we only stayed for one night, but there seems to be lots to do and see on the farm. Nothing.
- Alexandra (10/5): - Great communication from the host pre and during the visit.
The view from the window was like a painting.
The hospitality from the hosts who took the time to answer all our questions about farm life.
The good and delicious food we got both for breakfast and dinner.
Nice to share the dinner table with the other guests. N/A
- Hallowes (10/5): Super place to stay between Springbok and Neuwoudtville - Remote

- Eileen_h (10/5): Peaceful and relaxing with wonderful wide open views. - We really enjoyed our return visit to Platbakkies. The hosts are very welcoming and the cottage is perfect for us. We loved having braais and eating outside and watching the sunset. Lizelle cooked us a delicious dinner and breakfast another day. The farm cats and dogs are good company and the scenery is wonderful - just so peaceful. Nothing
- Lynne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joanna (10/5): Recommend - Great place
- Pamela (9/5): Superb -
- Eileen_h (10/5): Life is better on the farm. - The warm hospitality and delicious meals, the sunny accommodation and friendly cats and dogs and the opportunity to see farming life were all delightful. We loved the wide open spaces and wonderful clean, fresh air. Nothing
- Venna (10/5): Very comfortable and fun farm stay - We actually booked an entire house with three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The house is so clean and nice. They also left us fresh farm eggs and lemons in the kitchen.
We were lucky to see puppies during our stay. Their shepherd dog gave birth to five puppies, and they are all playful. We also witnessed them feeding their goats and sheep. If we could have stayed longer, we would have loved to experience feeding them too.
While driving to Platbakkies, you will see plantations of South African flowers. It’s a very scenic drive.
- Adrienne (9/5): Enjoyed the unique aspect and will visit again but arrive earlier so that we can do a hike - The history and genuine feel
- Thomas (10/5): An Oasis in Namaqua - A real oasis of tranquility. It's an absolute stunning place in Namaqua. I felt at home and the hosts made me feel so welcomed. The food was amazing. I will definitely recommend and come back. Thanks a lot! Nothing
- Tersia (9/5): Superb -
- Janet (1/5): Our small vehicle was not suitable for the gravel roads to the farm, so we could not stay there - I cannot comment - we could not get to the venue due to us not having a high-clearance vehicle.
We did not know this was a pre-requisite at the time of making the booking - and there was no information in this regard on the booking.com website. I would like a refund. I have been trying to contact Booking.com regarding this booking.
We were not able to go to the property because the hosts said our small car was not suitable to travel on the gravel roads to the farm. There was no information about this on the site, so I would like a refund as we had to make an alternative accommodation booking. Please advise.
- Fourie (9/5): very nice experience, hospitality outstanding - farm atmosphere, quietness, remoteness The facility is excellent but the road conditions from Garies is a nightmare
- Wilkie (9/5): Superb -
- Karen (10/5): A beautiful Karoo farm - Platbakkies was a little more out of the way than we expected!
You need to spend more than 1 night here to fully enjoy the farm
However, it was a most welcome stay and we enjoyed the situation and the peace and quiet.
The unit was clean, comfortable and our host was very welcoming.
- Leonie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yolettr (9/5): Superb -
- Pauline (8/5): Lovely farm stay in a remote part of the country - This was a lovely overnight farm stay in a remote location. The hosts were delightful and looked after us very well. We were served a lovely farm dinner in our room and breakfast was excellent. Getting there on the road from Kamieskroon was not great. The road is in poor condition and it took much longer than we thought. The road from Springbok to van Rhynsdorp was good however.
- Chihperg (10/5): Exceptional - Lizelle is so nice and friendly. We had great time there.
- Tony (10/5): Exceptional - We enjoyed the remote location & the friendliness of the hosts.
The meals were excellent.
- Elize (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Margie (10/5): Exceptional - The hospitality was outstanding.
The meal was delicious.
The scenery was amazing.
We would go again if heading in that direction.
- Patricia (10/5): Wonderful stay on a farm - Very nice place with everything one need. You feel like home. The hosts are very welcoming and you can enjoy farm life. Perfect stop before going to Fish River Canyon.
- Ricki (10/5): Amazing, we loved it! - What can we say about our amazing stay at Platbakkies only that we wished we had stayed longer.
We stopped at Platbakkies on our way up to the Orange River and it was a great adventure. The farm house we stayed in was amazing and very comfortable. We made our own braai in the evening which was great even using some of the local lamb chops that were available to purchase. We travelled from Durban across South Africa knocking up 4200kms and multiple stops and we all agreed our one night we had at Platbakkies was the best, Thank you Lizelle and Dawie, we hope to see you again sometime and maybe explore your farm further.
- Louwtjie (10/5): Aangenaam en 'n heerlike ondervinding met sneeu as bonus!!! Pad is bietjie sleg! - Dit was smaakvol en keurig aangebied. Julle is aangename mense en ek sal enige tyd weer kom inloer en julle met groot graagte aanbeveel aan vriende en my mede Ere Veldwagters. Baie dankie. Geen!!!
- Lucy (10/5): We had a wonderful weekend surrounded by peace and quiet in the beautiful Namaqualand. A lovely cottage, fully equipped - The house was lovely and set in the quietest and most peaceful setting. The hosts were incredibly warm and welcoming. Such a beautiful setting. Nothing.
- Jolize (10/5): Exceptional - The owners were very friendly and the food was excellent. I will definitely recommend it. It feels like a home away from home. Absolutely nothing.
- Gerrit (10/5): The venison pie for dinner is a must. Followed by a great breakfast. The hosts are the best ever…. - So many things to do on the farm
- Karin (10/5): Exceptional - We are birders and went looking for the Red Lark. In miserable weather, freezing cold wind, we found about 15 of them. Platbakkies is the place to stay if you are looking for special birds.
The food made by Lizelle was delicious, the room where we stayed was warm and comfortable. There was a roaring fire in the fireplace to warm up in the dining room. Wifi to catch up with friends and family.
In the room were some items for sale from local farmers, jams, hand spun wool, beaded necklaces and knitted scarfs. Google Maps doesn't direct you to the correct turnoff. Fortunately, we had a map in the car that we could refer to. There is no cellphone signal out there to call someone if you get lost. The farm is very remote on the corner of the gravel road from Garies and the gravel road that comes from Springbok.
- Stevej7 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Petra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alejandro (10/5): amazing - Peaceful, spotless, beautiful grounds, attentive host, could not have asked for more. Lizelle is an excellent cook (even for vegetarians!) and her dinner is not to be missed!
- Marc (10/5): Exceptional - hosts were fabulous. food was great. no complaints.
- Russell (10/5): Very clean, comfortable and relaxing stay. - We stayed in the “Heart” cottage, the cottage had everything we needed, was so clean and comfortable, from the towels to the bedding. There are very cute and little feel good things throughout the cottage including homemade jams and other items for sale. Another nice touch of having ice cold beers, wine and cider in the fridge if you didn’t bring your own. The stars were literally “out of this world”, and the sunset was truly stunning. A place to sit back and relax, and watch the world go by. We will be back again when travelling this way. Thank you you Lizette and Dawie for creating and sharing such a beautiful space. Nothing
- Liesel (10/5): A very relaxing farm retreat that we would highly recommend - This was a wonderful oasis to find after long stretch of scenic road from Kamieskroon. The cottage was rustic but clean and beautifully appointed with all the little creature comforts you may need - comfy bed and linen, electric blanket, well supplied kitchen facilities, nice shower., everything clean. This place actually looks better than in the photographs. We pre-booked dinner and breakfast with our host and dinner was served beautifully in our cottage and was divine, Lizelle has kindly accommodated my dietary requirement. The breakfast was also fabulous and beautifully presented in their home. The farm have some beautiful self drive routes. Plenty of parking in front of the house with no size restrictions so large/high overlanding vehicles are easily accommodated. Very sweet dogs and cats occasionally popped round to say hello but they were not intrusive or a bother at all. Note there is no cellphone signal, but there is free wifi which worked fine. We loved everything
- Hendrik (10/5): Heaven - it was SO comfortable, SO clean, and SO beautiful. Now I know what Heaven looks like. the best stay of our week long trip. Next time I will be staying much longer.
- Bianca (9/5): Superb -
- Dick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thariza (10/5): Exceptional - Warm welcome.
Beautiful area.
Excellent host with lovely dinner and breakfast
- Karen (10/5): Thank you Lizelle for everything!! We enjoyed every minute of our stay! - When your child says “this place reminds me of ouma’s house”,
then you know you have stayed somewhere really special. Itwas an absolute treat!
- Marjolein (10/5): wonderful hosts for a great accomodation with lovely meals and special bird life - lovely attentive hosts. great meals, great stay. saw the red lark!!!
lovely garden lay out. nothing not to like
- Leach (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (8/5): Enjoyed the remote location, hospitality and home cooking. - Beautiful remote location and enjoyed the hospitality.
- Charl (10/5): Well worth it, do not miss it if you are on this route! - Everything, the authentic farm setting, lovely location, amazing food and a very personal service and hospitality! Accommodation in the old farm house was great, we only stayed one night, could easily have stayed longer. Kids enjoyed the farm yard, something we wanted them to see. Big thanks to Lizelle and Dawie!
