Ann (8/5): Lovely hotel in a perfect location. - Location on the water, community amenities closeby and walkable, beautiful community. Excellent views from the upper rooms and the patio area is the best for quiet days relaxing with family. Also has a covered patio area for rainy days. Breakfast room was nicely stocked and clean. Restaurant now open, but we got mixed info about how to ensure we could have a meal with limited staff on-site. We thought we had to book ahead for dinner, forgot to, made other plans, then had staff knocking on our doors asking if we wanted dinner. This is still an upgrade from previous stay when the restaurant was not open, and the food was good pub fare.

Martha (10/5): I stay there again-I'd check the tides when planning my paddling arrival. - View from the room was great. The access, if you arrive in a kayak, can be dicey at real high tides. And, if the tides are real high, it would be difficult to haul your kayak up to the street level.

Joan (10/5): - This is a 100 year old hotel in the village of Alert Bay. Our room had a small balcony with a great view. The breakfast included bread, fruit and yogurt. The dining room downstairs had a limited menu. Don’t pay any attention to the one posted online. Prices, of course were higher , but the food was good.

L6603DWsusans (6/5): Good for a short stay. - I guess when you are in a remote and tiny communtiy like Alert Bay, you don't expect too much. This hotel was just fine for one night, but I wouldn't have wanted to stay more than that. It was clean, comfortable and conveniently located. There is. a restaurant on the premises, which we did not go to, as we were confused by the directions and the hours given by the reception staff. All in all, I would say it's fine. I wouldn't recommend it highly, but it's adequate, if somewhat overpriced
Lissa (10/5): My mum and I were pleasantly surprised by this gem at Alert Bay! - We loved the location and the quaint, welcoming atmosphere. We loved the nautical theme and artwork. Also the location was perfect and within walking distance of attractions.

Walls are thin so bring ear plugs as not all guests are respectful. The owner was great at providing information about the area and the ferry before arrival.

Martina (7/5): - Ein in die Jahre gekommenes Hotel. Für 1 Nacht ging es. Restaurantterrasse im Hotel recht hübsch. Essen gut. Das Zimmer recht klein. Man kann gerade ums Bett herum gehen. Mit 4 Koffern an die Grenze gekommen. So mussten 2 Koffer im Auto bleiben.

Front end staff were awesome upon arrival, but seemed annoyed at any requests for food or towels for the remainder of our stay (2 nights) Food was nothing to be desired, when it was actually available. There was a small space of time to eat, and the following night, there were no food options available on site. The walls were very thin. We will look for other options for accommodation next time we are in town.

Pascal (9/5): Cozy relaxing stay with great views - Lovely set on the water, quiet and peaceful. The top room feels like being tucked in a cozy cabin on a cruise ship, with balcony, views, light. Perfect. Hotel staff and manager were helpful and made my stay memorable. Thank you The restaurant area iis convenient (and food was good) but could probably benefit from slightly better arrangement to make it more inviting. The outdoor area is great though

242avac (8/5): Go for the food and the experience - We had a quirky yet enjoyable lunch at this place in early July. After a walk down the waterfront from the ferry terminal, this place looked interesting, but it was hard to know if it was open for lunch. We saw a family out on the deck so we figured we’d follow the stairs down that way and see where it takes us. The restaurant faces the water on the lower level of this old, old building. It seemed to be one of the few waterfront structures that has been “saved”. It’s VERY casual, sit where you want and the staff was familiar friendly, so we sat out on the deck to enjoy the view before it started raining. The menu had some good looking burgers and Thai food, so I ordered the spring rolls and a bowl of white rice so I could mix them together with a little Thai sweet sauce. My husband ordered a burger and fries. He said it was an amazing burger! My spring rolls were really tasty - 4 in an order and they are pretty big - here’s the quirky - she brought out 2 orders for me - so 8 of these large spring rolls. And the bowl of white rice I ordered seemed weird to them, but hey - it was a side on the menu so why not? All in, it was a very relaxing lunch, she did not charge for the extra spring rolls (I did not order) or the bowl of rice. It was friendly, rustic, dated but it felt authentic Alert Bay and we were glad we found this little gem for the food and the experience.

Nice glutenfree Food like Seafood-Curry and Burgers. The Best Staff Team ever from all over The Word: very friendly, caring and with good Sense of Humor. Thanks for fab 10 days. I definitely will Comedy back to this very special Place.

You can walk all the way across the island and get a bite at one of the few restaurants or coffee shop. The room was small and cozy. It's definitely an old original building. If you didn't know that going in.

A stunning location . We had the quadruple room as we were travelling as a mother daughter combo A super comfy large clean room with 2 distinct sleeping areas and spectacular views . Will, one half of the owner duo was really friendly and helpful . Tina who takes care of housekeeping and is also a constant in the restaurant is a lovely young woman - efficient and friendly always helpful and with a ready laugh and smile . All 3 of the meals that we ate in the restaurant were very tasty- not a huge menu but perfectly adequate and they were happy to adapt for plant based preferences . We started by booking 1 night, then read about the island and extended to 2 . We loved the island and the hotel so much we then extended to 3 . Highly recommended The absolutely only thing that could be improved on was the breakfast - a bigger choice of yoghurt to include plain , some berries and some nuts/seeds/ granola . A plant based yoghurt option maybe and definitely plant based milk .

The dishes were well-prepared and flavorful, offering a satisfying blend of Italian and American cuisine. Our server, Tina, was exceptional — attentive, courteous, and professional throughout our visit. Regrettably, our experience was marred by the disruptive behavior of a group of intoxicated local patrons who were disrespectful toward the staff. It was disheartening to witness such conduct, particularly in the presence of children, seniors, and tourists. Despite this challenging situation, Tina and the rest of the team managed it with admirable composure and professionalism. We sincerely appreciate their efforts and would not hesitate to return.

Elizabeth (6/5): - It's an old inn and rustic which is cool but it is missing something. Staff is adequate but there was little interaction or interest in the guests. Aside from one cheery table server the owner and wife were lackluster, and we had the impression they didn't really want to be there. The restaurant menu needs an update with fresh salads and fresh food. Too much food comes from frozen like French fries, halibut even the beef and broccoli were from the freezer. Fries accompany most food with no other choices, i.e. a salad. Sticky menus and stained aprons are not impressive. The continental breakfast could use more variety and don't put out brown bananas. The rooms are clean but the lazy-boy chair in my room looked old and stained. Having a balcony was great and overall, everything was okay but too expensive for what you got.

Recommend the restaurant. Most of all want to praise the staff Member Tina and owners who went the extra mile on our behalf, to help us retrieve and reconnect with a personal item belonging to overseas friends — who needed it to continue their journey. markezet (10/5): Nimpkish in November 2024 - It's a family operated business with amazing staff especially Chef Pemba. Very caring and kind, accommodating, hospitable and always ready to help. I had an excellent experience and time, got an upgrade to a room with a balcony and oceanview, got special food cooked at the restaurant according to my dietary restrictions. Got nice complimentary breakfast,tea and coffee always available. You can see the gulls, eagles, other water fowl, facing the bay/ocean and other islands its a beautiful view. Amazing experience

No lights upstairs but candles were provided. Generator ran the kitchen and the restaurant was buzzing. The owners made the adventure fun!!! I’d stay again and hope for a power outage!

Bärbel (7/5): Wonderful location with a breakfast surprise - Perfect walking distance from/ to the ferry, very kind hosts, really nice room, nice restaurant and you can/ will have whale watching from the shore near the hotel even with a room without view of the sea The breakfast - called continental - was not a buffet but kind of a puzzle. Find your dishes in the cupboard, make your coffee, nice that there were some prepared fruits and yoghurt in the fridge, but I can´t remember any cheese or similiar... (Quite a bit disappointing when your booking says breakfast included.) But the breakfast room is really stunning and if you managed to get yourself a coffee, it´s a good start in the day!!

Emmanuelle (10/5): Fantastic! Can't wait to come back for a longer stay! - What a fantastic place! Very warm welcome from Penba and his husband who are managing this beautiful hotel. We looooved the oceanfront outside patio which got everything to feel cozy and relaxed : hammock, comfy sofas, you name it! Very quiet, room and the whole hotel was sparkling! Penba is also a wonderful cook so we had dinner in the bright living room, gazing at the ocean while eating a super flavourful homemade palek paneer! I walked all along the seaside and up to see the world's tallest totem pole, and looked at all the Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw art and history along the walk. So instructive and beautiful! Did not go to the cultural center as I arrived too late but it is a good excuse to come back and stay at the Nimpkish Hotel again!
David (10/5): - We absolutely loved our stay at the Nimpkish! We stayed in the Romantic room on the top floor and very much enjoyed our deck which had the most incredible sunset ocean view. The owners were the best! Very friendly and visible throughout our stay! Breakfast provided in the sunroom was excellent! Coffee, tea, OJ, hardboiled eggs, toast, yogurt, fresh fruit, etc. It was wonderful to eat in the morning in a town that has few restaurants. Just to note... this Romantic room does not have a shower but it does have a very large sunken tub with at handheld shower nozzle which was no problem for us. I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely return!

Large soaker tub was difficult for elderly or partially disabled people to get in and out of and only has a pull-out shower cable. Continental breakfast was subpar: - cheap supermarket/dempster’s-style bread with cheap individually-wrapped jam.. - coffee machine was dirty and doesn’t look like it’s been cleaned in weeks. - hard boiled eggs tasted old like they’ve been in the fridge for days My room was also dirty.. - little hairs in the sink - showers/bath not thoroughly cleaned (pink residue) - the fridge in my room still had a half-full cocktail from the previous guest I enjoyed Alert Bay but I would not stay here again.
