Guest Reviews
- Linda (7/5): Loved the feel of the house and the fabulous dining room - Beautiful house, very comfy beds and so close to the Main Street of Tanunda. Only 1 shower.
- Hyland (8/5): -
- David (10/5): -
- Jillian (10/5): Barossa break! - The house was wonderful. Great rooms. Pool was fab, Kitchen was great, beds were comfy and location was perfect Everything was wonderful
- Michael (10/5): -
- Mardi (10/5): Perfect location and a wonderful house to stay in -
- Marge (7/5): We had a lovely week staying and exploring around the area. - Close to shops and playground. Nice large house to stay. Nice having tea and coffee also milk in the fridge. Lots of ants inside especially bad in the lounge room and nothing to spray them with. No clothesline to dry washing outside or clothes horse. No lounge furniture to sit around the pool area.
- Alanah (10/5): -
- Sally (5/5): Young lady spacious house in very central location but a few areas needed attention with cleaning. - Location great. Beds fresh and comfy. Oven and windows not clean. Pool area very scruffy and disappointing. No drawers and very few hangers on the racks.
- Heather (9/5): Was nice and relaxing - Everyone was able to have their on room. The pool was cloudy with chlorine and we were unable to get the pump to work to stir the chlorine around.
Didn’t make it nice to swim in
- Raelene (8/5): Great spot - The spaciousness, the pool, the location
- Phoebe (9/5): With a little TLC this property could be a 5/5. We were very happy and comfortable and not wingeing at all. We were - 200m from main shopping area which was so good, could have a drink and not worry about driving. Pool was amazing to cool off in the 40+ degree days. Ducted air-conditioning right through the large 5 bedroom space which was so nice. Large size bedrooms with large double beds throughout. Large dining table in which we could play board games and do jigsaws. We were very comfortable from the get-go!! This by the way is constructive feedback and not negative at all: For a beautiful 1900’s property the garden definitely needs some TLC. Although the pool was lovely, the paving around it needed some attention, with it being very rough and many undulated pavers underfoot. The pool gate would not pass a safety inspection as it didn’t lock properly. The bath with overhead shower needs an upgrade as has been painted over and peeling dramatically which makes it all look dirty. Lots of indoor cobwebs and ants galore outside, so maybe needs an indoor and outdoor pest control treatment?? No clothesline and new iron required as the stopper has gone missing and leaked water all over the clothes that we were ironing. There was dirty cutlery in the drawer and utensils which need to be replaced.
- Ben (10/5): Spot on - Location and how spacious Beds could be a little better
- Kylie (7/5): -
- Maria (7/5): Lovely house but aircon motor too loud for people to sleep - No breakfast supplied.. most kitchen requirements were available The airconditioner motor made so much noise outside that it was impossible to sleep in the the back two bedrooms and there was mould growing in the window frames of dining room and lots of dust in the kitchen on shelves
- Alexandra (5/5): In need of love. - The house is in a great location. Minutes walk to the Main Street, yet quiet. The kitchen has been nicely renovated and offers plenty of what is needed to prepare food. The beds are comfortable although they are two single joined. The Barossa is magical and Tanunda very central. Communication with managers/owners very prompt. We chose the property because it had a pool. The pool area is in massive need of maintenance. It is quite unsafe. There are holes appearing all round it where the pavers have dropped. There are weeds, cracks and patched up areas everywhere. The pump is so very loud you can hear it from the bedrooms. There is no outdoor furniture to invite you to sit poolside if you wanted to. The water temperature takes your breath away as it’s cold; putting the jacuzzi out of a fun choice. The house it self was okay. The bedrooms comfortable but the bathrooms and other rooms in need of some love. There is only really one shower (over bath) as the other is a hand held hose. Being only two couples this is doable, but if there are more it could be a bit trickier. We could forgive all that needs to be done in the house if the pool had been inviting. It just needs to be loved and renovated to make it value for money and a relaxing place to stay.
- Linda (9/5): Great accommodation close to the main street perfect for families or groups of friends. - Great accommodation close to the main street and walking distance to shops, cafes and pubs. We were a group of 5 friends and loved the fact we had our own bedroom. Kitchen had all we needed and comfy lounge for relaxing at the end of a good day out in the Barossa. Only negative was one bathroom had a hand held shower. With no shower curtain, it was very easy to get water on the floor - the bathroom door was swollen because of this and scraped moving it to open and close.
- Sullytee (9/5): Excellent location for a weekend away in Tanunda - The location was excellent, 5 minutes walk to the main street where the cafe's and restaurants are. The facilities in this house were good and there was plenty of space for 5 adults. Some people felt having a shower over a bath was unsafe, and there was one complaint that the bed was too hard.
- Salvatore (10/5): Clean comfortable great beds spacious old world feel fab location - Comfort space clean old world feel comfy beds Nil but no walk in shower that would be s problem for disabilities
- Sandra (8/5): -
- Carol (8/5): Great for our group of four blokes playing the nearby golf corse. very clean and convenient to town - Cooked our own breakfast and enjoyed the fruit juice that was supplied Shower over bath tub. Every time I exit one of these I envision the possibility of a fall.
- Du (10/5): Very comfortable and convenient. -
- Nicole (9/5): -
- Alison (10/5): - A wonderful old style house very comfortable and had everything you wanted The only down side were the bathrooms where you had to go into the bath for a shower not good for older people
- Greg (9/5): -
- alan (9/5): -
- Rong (7/5): For a short say is fine - Large, kitchen were well equipped Shower needs to be improved, heater needs to be updated
- Annette (7/5): Well located Tanunda period home. - The location was fabulous and the beds were very comfortable. Good off street and under cover parking. Laundry and kitchen were great. Really appreciated the quick assistance offered for an issue at the property. Pillows, bathrooms- there was only one shower and it was over the bath. There was nowhere to put your belongings in one of the bathrooms.
- Georgina (7/5): Overall the house gave us a central location which we loved! - We loved the location - walking distance to all of what Tanunda offers with cafes shops and restaurants. It was great to have 2 bathrooms but it would have been better if the second bathroom had a fix shower head. The central heating was extremely noisy.
- Nam (8/5): Great. Comfortable. - Only 1 shower.
- Fiona (8/5): Perfect for a girls weekend, nice and roomy, all having our own sleeping space. - Location - easy walking distance to the main street of Tanunda. Coffee shop at the end of the street, supermarket easy to walk to, many eateries. Very spacious house, large bedrooms, large beds, large dining table. Quiet neighbourhood, private. Well equipped kitchen (although we didn't cook). The house had a great feel about it. Bathrooms - both showers were in a bath (one was a low handheld shower only)
One night was windy and the bedroom window - front room only was very rattle'y and slightly breezy.
- Jackie (7/5): Good - Location
Great kitchen
Comfortable beds and pillows Lots of cobwebs, dirty window tracks
- Melanie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gail (9/5): Absolutely loved our stay and highly recommend and will definitely stay here again - Convenient location, plenty of space to accommodate a large group. Swimming pool was great in 39 degree heat
- Jason (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adzee (9/5): A nice stay, a nice little getaway over Christmas, and close to plenty to do in the surrounding area - The location was perfect for our needs over Christmas and Boxing Day, close to family, and the kids had fun in the backyard pool. The rooms were spacious, and the air conditioning worked well in the hot weather.
We had stayed at the Ambrosia a couple of years before hand for a few nights, we like the style, the kids like the pool, so it seemed a good place to book again. Everything was clean, the kitchen is large, and we liked the inclusion of the games console for games and movies, which we didn't need to use, but a thoughtful touch just in case. On the last night there, with some fairly strong winds, something on the outside of the house, maybe a gutter, roof panels or such like was making a fair bit of banging noise close to our the front bedroom, this persisted most of the night during the strong winds. Obviously the wind was out of the control of the property owners, but a little bit of maintenance may be needed.
One downside was the hike in price over 3 nights on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, I get that it is peak season and possibly highly sought after, but over double the price compared to the same 3 weeknights two weeks later is a fair markup.
We did also bring our own plastic cups for the kids, as previously noted from our last visit, kids and glasses don't always mix, so we bought our own plastic cups so that there was no fear of kids dropping a glass on the slate floors.
- Jane (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (4/5): It has so much potential to receive a 5 /5 but due to a lack of love, it could only get a 2/2 - The location was fantastic, the rooms were good, the kitchen, dinning and lounge areas were good. The house itself could be sensational with just a bit of love and maintenance. For a 5 bedroom house, not one shower was passable. Main shower was in poor condition and sprayed everywhere, the other shower was over a claw foot bath with no shower screen so to use it you had to sit in the bath. It was at the point that I use a face cloth to clean myself and used the shower at the airport to come home. The pool and surrounding area was in so bad repair and no pool furniture. We used the pool as the weather was very warm, but we brought chairs from Mitre10 just to sit around it, the tiles were so cracked and very up and down and weeds everywhere. The outdoor area was so overgrown, such a pity as it could've been amazing. The whole house was full of cobwebs and the window seals very dirty.
- Mandy (8/5): It was lovely and great for a girls weekend away. - Perfect location for our get together, house had a homely feeling and was very comfortable for 6 people. The lounge area was comfortable for 6 but no more. Kitchen was clean and spacious however lacked some cooking amenities and a area for people sit and gather. Toilet did not have a sink and floor was a trip hazard.
- Kit (7/5): Good location 5 bedrooms was a plus need some work. - The location Back yard pool area was very tired
The shower sprayed water all over the place
- Maria (9/5): Adequate - location and size bathrooms need attention, leaking taps, mould under shower mat in bath, water all over the floor.
- Adam (7/5): Great price for 5 bedrooms so close to the main street. - Amazing location. Just a short stroll to the main street for coffee, food and shopping.
Spacious rooms and living area. And big enough that the kids could go to bed early and not her the adults playing games around the dining table. This old house truly looked amazing. So much character.
Easy communication with managers. Although there are two bathrooms, there's only one shower and it wasn't really user friendly. Please use the non slip matt provided and have lots of towels ready for clean up. I would also say that this shower was not suitable for young children or elderly as it was quite hard to get in and out of. TBH if there were 2 modern showers this house would be almost perfect for me. We had a small issue with the plumbing but the manager was very quick to organize someone to come and sort this out. I couldn't fault the way this was handled, but it was still an inconvenience. Also, we couldn't find any spare garbage bags.
- Melinda (8/5): Perfect location in heritage home - We loved the location and the lovely house. Perfect location down a side street close to shops and bars. Enough bedrooms for our group of 5 ladies, one each. Close location to walk to bars and shops. Lovely old home with comfortable furnishing. Very quiet location. We loved the large kitchen and the secret cellar! Enjoyed having our meals and coffee outside on picnic table. Off street parking was handy. The showers! Great water pressure but both showers are in baths. shower head in one bath sprays water out everywhere and hard to control temperature without getting saturated, hair, floor etc. Complimentary shower caps would be wonderful as we ended up going to chemist to buy. Second bath had only a handheld shower so hard to get good coverage and keep warm.
Step in toilet that is a trip hazard and we stubbed our toes on , easily fixed with some tape so are aware of it. We looked for cards or games to play one evening and none available.
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Anne (7/5): Would definitely book again but would like to see the bathroom improved. - Location was perfect. Short stroll into town so didn’t need the car unless going elsewhere. Plenty of bedrooms so can accommodate a large group. Kitchen was well appointed. We didn’t need the pool as it was winter but would be lovely for warmer days. Off street parking. Bathrooms were the main issue. One bathroom was fine but had no shower though bath was lovely. The other bathroom had a shower that was bordering on dangerous. You needed to be in the bath to turn on the taps so you either got pelted with freezing cold or boiling hot water, depending on which tap you turned on first. Really needs to be addressed. Air conditioner took a long time to warm the house but once warmed it was fine.
- Ian (7/5): Location, Location , Location. Great house for families or groups of friends. - Big bedrooms, Kitchen is awesome. location is A+++ Bathrooms were a bit ordinary. One bathroom didn't have a proper shower.
- Jessica (6/5): Pleasant -
- Karen (8/5): Group of 5 ladies celebrating 60th birthdays - Loved the location
Large comfy rooms
Easy check in with keys in lock box and passcode provided on day of arrival Fridge not clean
No tea towels
Shower/bath faucet needs a plumber
- Sarah (9/5): Lovely house, great location to explore the Barossa Valley - Great location, lovely original house done up to the highest specifications. The hidden cellar was fascinating! The pool area could do with sprucing up, a few plants and chairs would make a big difference.
Only one shower (which sprays all over the place) for up to ten guests.
The admin after signing up was ridiculous, you have to send in selfies of you holding your driving licence and credit card.
- Karen (8/5): We were 2 couples and had a great stay. - Excellent position
Swimming pool One bathroom only had a hand held shower in a bath. Very difficult to have a decent shower without saturating the room.
The pool surrounds and garden could do with a clean up but were still fine.
I would like to see a clothes line or at least a clothes horse.
- Shelley (8/5): Very good - Lovely home. Large rooms and great location Beds were hard and mozzies in the house and outside were pretty bad
- Nadia (8/5): Family time - The bedrooms were a good size with King beds in each room The shower being in a bath tub is quite dangerous for the young and old. The tap location wasn't the best as you either get blasted with hot or cold water while trying to turn it on. I should have looked at the photos properly. I would not have booked the place if I knew the shower situation.
- Ny (9/5): Superb -
- Jason (8/5): Very good -
- Melissa (8/5): Great location - Location was great, perfect for walking into town.
Quiet street.
Very clean and tidy.
Great beds, spacious house. Showers. Both situated in claw foot baths, hand held shower head not able to attach to wall. Water spray from other shower meant impossible to keep your hair dry. Also slightly unsafe we felt.
- Julie (8/5): Enjoyable. - Location- close to Main Street, heating, size Creepy photo in kitchen, strange cellar below kitchen, more toilet paper needed
- Susan (10/5): Highly recommend this property, would stay there again - The location couldn't be any better, short stroll to the main street. The house itself is beautiful with everything you need. The lovely big dining table was well used for games night while we were there. The only thing I did not like was the pillows. They were too hard for me. I would still stay here again, just take my own pillow next time.
- Hayley (8/5): A beautiful home in the heart of Tanunda! - The property is beautiful and very well presented. Every room was spacious and comfortable, and the facilities were excellent. Location was the standout though - walking distance to the main street and convenient for all of the things we wanted to see and do. We didn't have wi-fi for the entire weekend despite numerous attempts to get it up and running and a chat to the hosts. We also experienced a few power issues on the first day in the kitchen but these were sorted out quickly by the hosts. We also didn't have anything to wash up with (scourer or scrubbing brush) and no cloth to wipe down benches.
Our only other issues was the fact that both bathrooms had a bath and not a walk in shower making things a bit difficult for the older members of our group.
- Caroline (9/5): Superb -
- Cathie (9/5): lovely place to catch up. - Coffee machine didn't work properly.
- Ann (9/5): Superb -
- Debbie (9/5): Fantastic accommodation - Fantastic accomodation for 10 people with plenty of room.
Great location within walking distance to lots of places.
Our second stay and will definitely be back. Nothing to note.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic house and location
- Sharon (8/5): A lovely home to share with family and friends and enjoy the beautiful countryside in the Barossa V. - Lovely house with some beautiful features. Comfortable and clean.
Great location and heating worked well.
Handy dishwasher for a crowd. Plenty of towels, toilet paper and essentials.
Lovely warm and inviting home. 5 wine glasses for 10 people in a wine growing area?!
The shower in the bath was not easy to manage for some of us with joint replacements and stroke survivor. The ramps out the back were fantastic but definitely could improve on the bathroom and be disability friendly for an all inclusive holiday option.
Step down to the loo should be highlighted for safety reasons.
Curtains and floor rugs would help lessen the echo throughout the house.
- Heidi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Judith (7/5): A charmingly decorated old home close to central Tanunda but lacking in some areas. - Loved the great location to Main Street of Tanunda with restaurants & shops . House was tastefully furnished & two main bedrooms at front of house were spacious & gorgeous. Wifi was a problem the entire stay with very slow or no wifi most of the time even when modem was reset. This was with only 5 people on phones attempting to access wifi. Netflix wouldn't work properly on TV due to this.
Pool area was very shabby & unkempt - no poolside furniture & too many ants to allow for lying on the ground. Not a very pleasant space & a real disappointment. Numerous light bulbs not working. We had to shift the bed in one bedroom as there was an old electrical plug socket with plugs in it on the wall right behind the pillows !! Quite a safety hazard!
We felt that the bathroom facilities were inadequate for a house that was able to sleep 10 people . Only one shower & one smallish mirror in one of the bathrooms- for 5 females staying it was quite a nuisance.
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leona (8/5): loved our stay. - We’ll furnished. excellent kitchen. great location. noise travels due to floorboards. maybe more rugs?
- Nicholas (9/5): Superb -
- Anita (8/5): Very good -
- Paula (9/5): Superb - Location, spacious, well maintained, character No shower in the second bathroom.
- Tennille (9/5): Superb - Amazing location and the house had all the comforts of home
- Larissa (8/5): A charming large house! - We loved the location and the beautiful decor of the house. The kitchen was well stocked with crockery etc. Each bedroom was comfortable. We appreciated the quick response when asking about the heating and extra blankets on night one. Only one living area so when there’s a full house, not enough seats. Also there wasn’t any spare blankets or electric blankets on the beds. some of us felt the cold and I suggest having these at the property for use. Having said all of that, we loved staying here.
