- 330lesiag (10/5): I and my mum were like a princess in this villa) - Great villa, with beautiful and comfortable rooms! Always clean and tidy! The staff is friendly and attentive; top-notch service
- Freedom65062777352 (6/5): EKHO Weligama - Despite the poor ratings on Booking.com we decided to still give this hotel a chance…. The new manager who Took over in November 2024 is trying to turn this hotel around it definitely has potential to be lovely - let’s just say he is getting g there and this is very much a work in progress … However we had a very comfortable 2 night stay the room was spacious and clean … We were looked after very well by the limited staff that were present - are vegetarian diet was a challenge for them but they did their best . Given time we believe this would be a great hotel to stay at .
- chamindap738 (10/5): Great Hotel in Weligama - I visited EKHO Weligama a year ago and recently returned two days ago. The hotel has transformed completely under new management. The improvements are remarkable - it now offers service quality worthy of a 5-star rating. The entire experience has been greatly enhanced.
- rainl2025 (10/5): Lovely place to visit - Its located near Weligama beach which is known for surfing, variety of sea foods and beautiful candle night near beach. Highly recommended place. We stayed here for 10 days. The staff and the manager were exceptional. The garden is very nicely maintained. The rooms are very large and comfortable. Breakfast and especially dinners was excelent. Will certainly stay here again when travelling to Weligama.
- Wijayakoon (10/5): Exceptional -

- Leetmilan (10/5): Ekho Weligama - We had a memorable experience at the hotel and it's totally worth the price paid. We stayed for 2 nights and the service was excellent. The food was also good and enough space for children and beach close by. It was an overall super experience and we enjoyed as a family
- 382tharakak (10/5): It was unforgettable stay. Rates were reasonable even food and beverages rates too. I highly recommend this hotel. - As an field based employee , i am travelling around the country for business purposes during last 24years. In year 2005 - 2008 i stayed in this hotel .After 18 years last 11th April i stayed in this hotel. I am so happy to share that i received an outstanding service from the staff. Rooms were very clean and tidy. Foods were delicious. When i enter the room cinnamon fragrance were spreading in the room. Thank you so much for all the staff including the manager for making my stay a pleasure one. Friendly environment were there in the hotel.
- Capt_Yas (2/5): Disappointingly out of its depth as an EKHO hotel - Check in 5/4 Check out 6/4
I was originally due to stay here for 6 nights as a base for all of the south coast, but what a disappointment, I checked out after one night.
Maybe I've been spoilt by all other EKHO hotel stays I've had, but this hotel did not live up to my expectations. The promo photos from the EKHO rebrand, which are still available on Google, completely misrepresent the condition and standard of this hotel today. Do not fall for them.
The room decor is Spartan at best. TripAdvisor still says there is a phone - no there isn't. The manager's method is to do everything by WhatsApp directly, which actually put me off making any direct requests/complaints. They seem to save on laundry costs by not issuing hand towels, just use the one bath sheet for everything. The offering of toiletries was slim, and I'm not even sure they stock their own, everything was branded EKHO Surf Bentota. The wardrobe solution was weird, which was a rail attached under a shelf 2-3 feet of the floor. Hanging beach dresses is a no 🤔
I was initially given a ground floor room, and I was disturbed about the lack of a safety deposit box, which has been standard in all other EKHO hotels. And again, TripAdvisor still says there is a safe available..! That, plus the direct access into the grounds right up to your room's garden door from the busy coastal road, led me to request a different room on the 1st floor and keeping my valuables on me at all times (yes, including in bed).
The Google photos show some gorgeous murals and artwork painted in the dining/bar area and staircases, but these have alllll been painted over. Any flourishes EKHO put effort into are not there anymore. It was also a bit confusing that the main dining area isn't used, rather the bar area is where all the dining takes place.
The staff are doing their best, but they appear under-trained with very little English. You have to hope the hotel manager is around, because they all default to him for decisions and orders. Again, I know he's trying his best too, but my breakfast was a bizarre game of lucky dip. I wasn't offered an a la carte menu, I didn't see what the breakfast choices were to be able to distinguish what the dietary offerings were... rather food just started turning up. And next to a very nicely made Sri Lankan omelette was a slice of bacon and chicken sausages 🤦🏻♀️ when I'm not a meat eater. The manager then insinuates it's my fault, saying I should have told him I was vegetarian, but I was never asked, nor shown what food was coming 🙄 Come on! At least he arranged a car for me at short notice to whisk me out of there. Maybe other guests are more forthcoming with their demands and desires, but when you've flown across the world to relax, you don't expect to do all the hard work on top of the money you've paid.
I'm sure this hotel accommodates hundreds of satisfied guests looking for a short, cheap stay by the beach in Weligama, but please, this is not an EKHO hotel by a long stretch. And if you are paying attention to the name and not the cost or star rating, you're in for a shock. In fact, it's hard to tell who owns this hotel, food was still being served on Ceylon Hotels Corporation plates 😂
The cherry on top for me was the extractor fan in the bathroom. Either it was broken, or unhooked deliberately (like everything else - TV, phone, safe), and they've taped clingfilm/saran wrap all over it.... I'm assuming to prevent a colony of bugs from invading the shower.
Sorry EKHO Weligama (or whatever you are!), I will not be returning!
- Peiris (3/5): The place needs to improve its standards - the rooms were not cleaned well. Many insects were on the bed and the room floor. The Air-Con did not function well. It was very warm inside.
- Gena (2/5): Unpleasant stay - To start with the positive first: when requested extras (towel, adapter) the staff was very attentive and immediately brought what I needed. The garden is very nicely maintained. I would not recommend staying at Ekho Weligama.
Now to the other points: The pictures do not represent the current state the rooms nor the hotel is in. It is old and very badly maintained: old and dirty furniture, moldy rooms, color going off the walls, not able to lock the doors properly, cockroach in the room and and and… The second night they “cleaned” the room next to mine until 2:30 am in such a loud manner, even after telling them to please be quiet. Furthermore, the location on Google and Apple Maps do not represent the actual location of the hotel. It is located on the very boarder of Weligama.
The management knows about all these problems, however still charges a rip-off price for the rooms.
- Josie (5/5): Nice pool. Overpriced for the facilities - Pool was good for the kids The location was entirely false. Said it was situated in the centre of Weligama but was anywhere near it.
- Hashan (9/5): Superb - The staff and the manager were exceptional. The food could be better,
- Miriam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ishini (7/5): Good -
- Chavini (4/5): Worst stay ever & super disappointing!!! :( - Staff was flexible with check-in & check-out time. Place is so run down. Pictures on booking.com are so deceiving about the actual state of the hotel. Not worth the money at all. Looks really dodgy & not maintained at all.
Staff was not trained for us to check-in & when we requested for towels they just brought them in his hand. No cleanliness.
There was no electricity from morning till evening when the neighbouring places had & gave false excuses.
- Siti (2/5): Very poor -
- Visakha (4/5): Drab. Under repair - Very lonely and dark. Not much security
- Mariona (2/5): Very poor -
- 261chandimar (2/5): Terrible non maintained hotel **Local or Foreign*** please do not go - I made a booking on this hotel just only by looking at photos what they have uploaded to booking.com and the ratings were also fine as its a 3 star rated hotel, after going there on the booking date when i just saw the hotel , it was a such a terrible and not maintained since many years , and i didnt want to spend a moment there, what want to convey to the travellers is , please dont waste your money and time on this hotel by just looking at photos , its not what it seems to be,,
- olha21 (10/5): Very nice place - I really liked the hotel and the staff! The manager is very welcoming and nice person. The room is clean and stylish. There is everything you need. There is a pool on site. Great offer for that price.
- mithwick93 (10/5): Ekho Weligama review - Although many reviews appear to be negative, I think they have changed for the better now. We went there for one night stay on a full board basis. The hotel is located very close to the sea. There is ample parking space under a large tree. The staff was very friendly from the moment we arrived.
The room we got was far beyond our expectations for the price paid. It was very clean and tidy with all the amenities including bath towels, AC, Hot water, TV, etc. The food is good and they only do À la carte and we did not see a buffet. We can order to room or go to the dining area. Also, we can order beverage including alcohol and bites to the room.
They have a pool that is good for relaxing and swimming.
Overall I would give 4.5/ 5 with very little to improve further.
- Nanako-17 (2/5): Absolutely horrible! - We stayed here for just one night. Thankfully! We arrived around 4PM and we were told that none of the three rooms were ready. After scrambling for a few minutes they managed to give us one room which we could keep our luggage in as we were five people. The room itself had not been made up after the previous check out which makes no sense to me at all as it was now after 4PM. When we tried to open the balcony door of the room, the door knob came off. The handle to a cupboard also came off when we tried to open that. The room itself was in a really bad condition and had not been ventilated as there was a lot of mildew on the ceiling. At night after we had all returned, none of our three rooms had hot water. After calling housekeeping, they came to our room and said they were going to fix the problem, we waited 1 hour before going out to find them again. The entire premises was in complete darkness and we finally managed to locate a security guard who took us to the little cottage at the back of the premises which the night manager was staying at. The manager was apologetic yet mostly speechless and didn’t make any attempt to fix the situation but offered us a breakfast which we turned down. Upon check out, the same night manager from the previous night checked us out and never asked how the rest of our stay was. However, he said that the hot water problem was due to the monkeys damaging the wiring. The premises is actually very beautiful but there is such a lack of care and concern and hospitality. it is truly sad and shocking. If they would just take the time and effort, this place could be absolutely amazing and worth every cent that you pay. I feel really cheated!
- Tom (2/5): - My partner and I arrived at the hotel Ekho Welligama (07/01/20)we booked through Expedia to find that this place has seriously dated since the pictures were taken or perhaps they’ve just been photoshopped?
The room is very basic which I don’t really mind but since we arrived on the 7th jan 2020 our room has not been cleaned and no clean towels have been replaced. I feel that a fresh towel should be offered. I even managed to track down the manager and she told me it would be done(12/1/20 09:15) after asking 3 times now(14/1/20)its still not been done.
Whilst in our room about to go to sleep (11/1/20 22:45 local time), a disturbance broke out in the adjacent room which sounded like things were being smashed and knocked over.
When my partner looked in the corridor, a guest was utterly drunk on a sofa outside his room, broken glass containing alcohol was on the floor, and a member of staff from the hotel appeared to also be involved as well as drunk. One of the men had trod in the broken glass walked / dripped blood in front
of our room door - which meant we didn’t want to leave the room and did not feel safe.
There was also loud music being played, coming from the member of staffs phone. He turned it off as my partner asked him to. He apologised drunkenly and then all the men went to reception.
When we awoke in the morning (06:15) due to someone trying to clean up the broken glass, the members of staff that were involved were asleep on a mattress in the dinning room.
- 368dianec (8/5): Great little hotel - Brilliant little hotel lovely rooms clean and tidy comfy bed . Great location. Loved the coffee nice big pot. I would defo stay there again if we came back to weligama . Right next to all the restaurants and bars.
- Chris (4/5): Avoid this hotel if you can - Although we slept acceptably, the hotel feels like it’s about to close and let go of most of it’s staff ages ago.
The rooms weren’t cleaned before or during our three night stay, and we had a hard time finding the staff for check in.
This would be okay for a hostel for a tenth of the price, but not with this listing.
- Christina (2/5): Bottenbetyg!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The room 104 is very dirty & smelly!!! Especially the refrigerator, no cleaning at all and it’s awful!!!!! The phone in the room was not working and we have to reach the reception for help every time! The shower is very weak and the air-conditioner was going off for every 5 minutes!! Later, we were allowed to change to Room 202, it’s much better than 104. But overall the facilities, condition & cleaning are far below standard! NOT RECOMMENDED! :(
- Emilio (6/5): NICE BUT IT COULD BE MUCH BETTER WITH SOME LOVE - •Helpful staff
•dirty pool and pool hang out (not as in photos)
• The room was nice, but not so clean and the AC made a horrible sound (room 202)
Everything needed more love in this hotel. If they put the time to keep it fresh it would be a 10/10 hotel
