Guest Reviews
- Sandiford (9/5): - It was a beautiful historic location with welcoming hosts and excellent breakfasts.
Nada grave. Pero quizás eso a mejorar. Y olor a humedad. Sólo eso. El resto todo fenomenal.
- David (10/5): - Authentic experience with a local couple, very knowledgeble and well educated. We had very interesting conversations through which we got a nice idea about local customs and culture.
- Andrew (7/5): An authentic Azores experience - Don't expect luxury but do expect an interesting stay in a historic home and wonderful hospitality from the charming hosts - cheese, humour and cats! What not to like? Nothing that I feel the need to mention - I think I've already summed up the positive
- Aurore (10/5): Culture & Kindness - During our two-week holiday, my partner and I spent three delightful days at Quinta do Espírito Santo. Our stay was truly memorable, thanks to the warm hospitality of the owners, Francisco and Lucilia. Their welcoming nature and the enriching conversations we shared with them over a delicious breakfast each morning allowed us to gain fascinating insights into the history of Terceira (as well as the unique flavors of Azores cheese!).
Francisco and Lucilia’s passion and their genuine interest in connecting with guests made our experience exceptional. If you’re looking for a place where meaningful exchanges and authentic interactions are valued, Quinta do Espírito Santo is the perfect choice.
We recommend staying at Quinta do Espírito Santo for anyone seeking a warm, educational, and culturally immersive retreat!
- Kirti (9/5): Lovely hosts - The best part about the stay here were the hosts. The conversations with them over the breakfast were so insightful. We loved our stay though it was short.
- Ellen (10/5): Homely and welcoming stay with a delicious breakfast! - The breakfast was delicious, with good company, and the house/room were lovely. We enjoyed a walk around the garden in the morning too! Nothing
- Rowi (10/5): It was wonderful with a warm family connection! - I spent 20 days in the Azores. but the best came at the end. I was allowed to spend 3 nights at Quinta do Espirito Santa with Lucilia and Francisco Maduro slides. I was allowed to spend my stay in a beautiful outbuilding of the Quinta. The house and the rooms in it are lovingly furnished. You are transported to another distant time. But the two hosts are definitely the highlight. I have never experienced such warm hosts. A hearty breakfast with many local specialties was served in the main building. The two gentlemen had a lot to tell and gave me an old insight into life on the Azorn and Terceira. We especially liked the conversations with Francisco. I was able to take away and learn a lot from his knowledge as a history professor. I highly recommend Quinta do Espirito Santo as a place to stay. The hosts receive 1000 points from me.
Rolf Winzeler Switzerland I have absolutely no complaint to make! Well done!
- Bianca (10/5): The hosts are amazing and the house is beautiful, a renovated traditional house. Breakfast was delicious with local chee -
- Rebecca (9/5): A wonderful week at Quinta do Espirito Santo! - Francisco and Lucília are so warm and welcoming and ready to share their love and knowledge of Terceira with their guests. Breakfast with them every morning was such a pleasure: always an amazing array of cheeses from the Azores and Lucília's fresh cakes were so delicious!
- Wim (10/5): I can warmly recommend a stay at the quinta for your visits to Terceira. - Very pleasant stay in an authentic quinta with beautiful garden and two cats. Delicious breakfast together with the owners, who are happy to share their excellent knowledge of the island with their guests.
- Peter (10/5): A really enjoyable and too short a stay! - Full of character, fascinating furniture, pictures and historical artefacts, and wonderful gardens. The owners were very friendly and informative and we had a delicious breakfast with lots of local produce.
- Mickeygu (10/5): A beautiful and tranquil stay - Francisco and Lucília renovated their old family estate and converted the summer house next to it into a rental apartment and rooms. The apartment is not fancy or modern like many rental apartments. However, we found it convenient, with everything we needed, and gave us some feeling of family life in Terceira. The quinta is surrounded by a wall and the large garden provides an atmosphere of tranquility and beauty.
Having breakfast with Francisco and Lucília in their interesting house gave us some understanding of life of a community on a small island. We would have been happy to continue talking for a few more hours.
It was an experience very different from our other stays in the Azores. We highly recommend it. Not staying longer.
- Ginevra (10/5): What a dream!! - The place is incredible. The apartment is located in a refurbish farm of the Quinta, surrounded by a beautiful garden full of flowers. But the best part is for sure Francisco and Lucília. They love to share their knowledge and time having breakfast together, answering all the questions you might have. Francisco is a historian/anthropologist/archeologist, therefore the answers will be on multiple levels and incredibly interesting! Home-made jams and cakes of Lucília are absolutely delicious! Not to mention, that they host the most sweet and cuddling cats ❤️ It is really difficult to go away from breakfast... You'll want to keep listening to Francisco and Lucília :)
- Christopher (8/5): A Cultural and Historical Experience - If you are interested in the history of the islands, this is the place to stay. Fernando is a walking history textbook and our breakfast conversations around their dining room table was always very informative!
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - The Quinta is a charming place to stay and well situated close to Angra. It is a historical 18th century home that has been restored and the guest room we were in maintained the charm of the history of the place along with comfortable facilities. We were there during cool weather and there were cosy blankets and a very comfortable and quiet heater in the room. Our hosts Francisco and Lucilia were a delight to chat with over a wonderful breakfast of delicious local cheeses, breads, homemade jams and cake, and fruits grown on the property. We felt very welcomed and enjoyed learning about the Azores, it's history, culture and horticulture from our hosts! The large gardens on the property were lovely to walk through and the house cats were a fun sight. We would certainly recommend the Quinta as a unique and welcoming place to stay. Everything was delightful!!
- Marianne (9/5): It’s special to stay in a restored farmhouse from the 1700s, and that’s complimented by friendly and thoughtful hosts - Fascinating history, generous and gracious hosts, fabulous homemade breakfast, lots of local knowledge
We even got a full breakfast package the night before when our early morning flight didn’t allow us to join our hosts for breakfast. It’s a kittle bit outside of Angra, so having a car is important
- Milan (10/5): Very refreshing, breakfasts way beyond normal anonymous accomodation. We loved it there. - Delicious breakfasts with owners, local cheese, bread and pastry. We loved breakfast discussions with the owner Francisco and his wife about history and architecture. Accomodation had everything we needed. Cozy rooms in a shed in the yard, friendly cats, beautiful garden. Nothing.
- Ursula (10/5): It was the most wonderful stay - we would like to come again. - Breakfast was delicious, the hosts provided various kinds of dark bread (when they learnt we are from Germany) apart from home-made jams and cakes. As we had to stay another night because of the ferry, they very kindly offered us a different room.
If you are interested you can learn a lot about social and cultural life in the Azores, the host is a mine of information! We cannot think of anything.
- Antoine (10/5): Very nice accommodation, and lovely hosts! -
- Chomich (10/5): Exceptional - i never had such interesting, highly educated owners. they always had the breakfast together. we talked about everything and felt like at home with best friends. if you really like to feel Azores traditions and touch their history it's a right choice to stay here
- Nancy (10/5): A beautiful and unique place to stay on Terceira to experience Azorian history. Highly recommended. - We had a wonderful stay in the Casa Pequena. It was nice to have a kitchen, a sitting area, and an private outdoor patio with picnic area. Tea and cookies were provided daily which we enjoyed on our patio. The grounds are extensive and include gardens, cows, chickens, and ducks. There was an ocean view from the wall seating next to our patio. It was very relaxing and beautiful. There were excellent restaurants along the water at a nearby town. You need a car to stay here.
- Sumin (10/5): Exceptional - The place is very well kept. The host couple was kind and generous. The place is very clean and located in a quiet place.
- Guilaine (8/5): Very good -
- Anjali (9/5): Truly lovely stay at a beautiful property, with incredibly kind and warm hosts. - Lovely property, with beautiful grounds. Very friendly and helpful multilingual owners. Excellent breakfast.
- Matija (10/5): An immersive experience that makes you feel like at home - Quinta do Espirito Santo is a place you want to stay in if you like to get immersed in a local way of life. It is a traditional house where you stay with the couple who lives there. Every morning you are invited to a breakfast to their dinning room where you can taste their great cheeses and home-made jams. There you will get more information about the islands than any guide or history book could give. The hosts really try to make you feel at home and are very happy to share all of the information about Terceira and other islands. Surrounding the house is a big beautiful property with plenty of trees and flowers where you can stroll around. The house is also a home of few very friendly cats, which just love to be petted and will follow you around if you pet them even once. All in all it was a great experience, and I would suggest anyone, who wants to be immersed in a local culture and is not in a hurry, to stay here and spend at least a few days with the lovely hosts in their nice home. If we ever return to Terceira we will surely stay in Quinta do Espirito Santo again.
- Moshe (1/5): Bad -
- Sasha (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts are friendly and welcoming. Breakfast with them was a very nice detail. The room is big and tidy.
- Kelsie (9/5): Wonderful place to experience Terceira and stay with charming hosts - My father and I loved this quaint, lovely quinta. Our room was an old historical mill room, and was quite comfortable. There are lovely gardens to wander through on the land, and a small above ground pool for hot days.
The best part were are hosts! Francisco and Lucília were wonderful friends to have on our journey. They offer the opportunity to eat a beautiful traditional breakfast inside their home each morning, took genuine care in our interests, shared stories, and made great recommendations of local things to do. Francisco has a particular passion for preserving local culture, which we admired and appreciated greatly. Depending on where one will spend their time, the location of the quinta is not close to much of interest. Having a rental car was essential. It is a 15-20 drive to Angra to restaurants and sites and a bit of a drive to the coast. Not a great walking destination.
- Mihaela (10/5): Exceptional - The great courtesy of the owners, their availability and attention to small details and the place that is full of many artefacts that can have places in a museum. The enriching discussions on the history of the Azores during the excellent breakfasts. The touching surprise (flowers and cake) to celebrate the birthday. Thanks for hospitality. We will come back one day. We are definitely recommending this place.
- Elizabeth (10/5): 10/10, will be back. - This place was absolutely gorgeous, and our hosts were warm and welcoming. We only stayed one night and one morning on a layover, but it was phenomenal and we are absolutely planning to return. In the morning we were served a delicious breakfast of fresh bread, assorted local cheese, Portuguese jamon, juice, coffee, jams, and more -- we learned so much about the islands and Terceira in particular from our lovely hosts and got to chat with the other couple staying there. Our hosts coordinated airport transit for us and check in was very smooth even though we got in after midnight. Finally, our apartment itself was beautifully decorated and so comfortable, and the view from our room was beyond amazing. We walked 30 minutes down to a fabulous swimming spot on the coast, and then spent a few hours lying around in their enormous and lovely garden. Nothing!!!!
- W.T. (10/5): - This Quinta is set on ca. 3 ha of land, more/less in the country side yet < 10 min away from some great seafood restaurants and 15 min away from Angra do Heroismo. The host and hostess are very friendly, helpful, and interesting. The breakfasts were nice, featuring different cheeses from different Azores islands and home made jams and preserves. The Quinta is well located with easy access to several sightseeing destinations. We had a wonderful stay and heartily recommend it.
- Jani (10/5): Fantastique experience - We had a great stay at Quinta do Espirito Santo. We hosts are fantastique and full of insight. This is not a traditional hotel, but you get to stay at a fantastique old house with great history and athmosphere. The premises have cats, chickens, ducks and dogs. Would recommend a stay here if you want something out of the ordinary.
