Honourable mention to the amazing staff, so accommodating, helping with parking, and keeping us fuelled with the loveliest cakes and cocktails. I already can’t wait to return. If wanted to stay here for years and it exceeded all expectations, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to put into words just how much I love La Rosa Hotel 🌹❤️🔥 N/A - wish we could’ve stayed longer and can’t wait to rerun.

- ALAN (3/5): Whitby and surrounding areas absolutely wonderful. plus lots of interesting shops , bars and cafes - Great location and great view from our " Stoker " room. Lovely large cast iron bathtub Our room at La Rosa Hotel had no fridge, no TV, no wardrobe, the room was scruffy, dark, drab and dreary. Cheap, very old furnishings and decor all a facade to the supposedly Goth theme. The room was cramped and uncomfortable and as it was quite expensive probably the worst value for money hotel I've ever booked .

We stayed in Lewis which had the most incredible view of the Abbey. The room was extremely comfortable, well appointed and gorgeously quirky. I would highly recommend La Rosa and we will definitely return.

Lovely cosy boutique hotel that has everything you need, from a warm, delicious hot chocolate to warm welcoming smiles. I am so glad I picked it despite, or maybe, because of the bad reviews. They didn't make sense before my booking, and they still don't. Many thanks for these beautiful memories of lovely Whitby. Awfa
- fortiesgal (10/5): Flipping fantastic! - Such a truly incredible hotel. If you don’t like standard hotels with zero character where every room looks the same and it’s all a bit….meh, then this is the hotel for you! Each room is very different and a true feast for the eyes with quirky and interesting details. You don’t need (or want) a tv when you can look out over Whitby and see the sun rise and set over Whitby abbey. Book direct and get a wonderful picnic style breakfast brought to your room where you can sit and watch the world slowly go by. If you can manage to pull yourself away and explore the glorious Whitby you can return later for hot and deep bath to rest your legs from the 199 steps and afterwards sample a tipple or three in the lounge with Margot (IYKYK) and listen to the most incredibly eclectic playlist (thanks to Rob and his love for music). Everyone (including John) is brilliant and if you want something with a different feel to the beige hotels then this could very well be the one for you.
- Adele (5/5): The hotel was quirky and the staff were excellent due to the stairs couldn’t stay more than one nigh - The staff the location and the cocktails A lot of stairs to climb and no lift, the parking situation wasn’t good I put into the search must have parking it was on street parking if you could find a space with a scratch card at a cost of 6 pounds from the hotel we couldn’t find a space my daughter had to drop us off find a space elsewhere then go and move it early the next morning as it was the 1st of March and charges applied from the 1st of March my daughter is also 6 months pregnant.

- Steven (10/5): Welcoming and pleasurable stay - Fantastic quirky hotel some great things to look at, like stepping back in time! The communal areas are just amazing and so relaxing and the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. The sea/Abbey views are breathtaking to wake up to and the bed was so comfortable. Amazing location for exploring all over Whitby. Overall a really pleasurable stay. Unfortunately a few things were off for us. No fridge in the room to store the milk they provide or for items/medication of our own. The continental breakfast was lacking for the £10 charged per person. The room whilst amazing in character was a little grubby and needed a spruce up. I get its quirky and for that i absolutely adored it but dirty marks from hands etc was a little off putting. Remember your usb/c charger plugs! In our room the bathroom was very dimly lit so not ideal for shaving your face. No hanging area for clothes

- iambeno (10/5): A wonderful break for the New Year celebrations - Can’t fault the place. The owners and staff are wonderful. Full of eclectic charm with themed rooms. We stayed in the ‘Saloon’ which provides a Wild West experience! We didn’t have a sea-view having booked the final free room. However, we had the largest bath I’ve ever seen. They was a New Year’s Eve party which was well attended by hotel guests as well as some locals. After a few cocktails, for midnight, we all headed outside to watch the fireworks being set off by locals on one of the beaches in Whitby. Breakfast is a continental buffet which can be delivered to your room and provided a good start to each day. The hotel location on East Terrace is ideal for walking down into Whitby and has great views out to the Abbey.

- fortiesgal (10/5): Quirky and not your average hotel with no personality - I’ve stayed at La Rosa a couple of times and I always have such a lovely time. I could happily sit in the room admiring the view and drinking tea, the room is wonderful (Lewis) and has so many wonderful items in it, I had to keep looking and noticing different things. Everyone was lovely that I met and clearly love what they do. Breakfast is always a delight and I thoroughly enjoyed savouring it whilst watching the out of the window. My only regret is not having any of the amazing cocktails in the bar downstairs, instead I had a long bath (the baths are deep and incredible!) and then fell asleep on the ridiculously comfortable bed. Of course I shall rectify this on my next visit….

The bath is enormous, at 6'4" I could stretch out fully! The staff were lovely, and it was nice staying somewhere unique!

We stayed in the La Rosa room which was absolutely beautiful, I loved the bathroom! All of the antiques were amazing and the view was fantastic. Fabulous location and staff. The cocktail library is gorgeous, as were the cocktails! I was very surprised when they could make the creamy ones vegan as they stock vegan cream, it was surprisingly a very vegan friendly little place. Cute little bottles of oat milk left for us in a morning too. Everything is so well thought out and all ties in together with the vintage Victorian vibes. We absolutely loved our stay here and would love to come back it was fabulous. Nothing!
- Rachel (10/5): - We had a lovely welcome at check in 💕 The parking was super we got parked outside which was convenient and we were given a parking permit. So that took the stress out of parking as Whitby was busy. The hotel is quirky and fabulous which we loved. We stayed in the crows nest on the the top floor. It had 3 bedrooms, living room, bathroom and seperate toilet. Each room is themed and the kids loved the treasure chest full of dressing up! Our room had beautiful views over the harbour. We went out for dinner to Trenches it's was amazing. Best fish and chips in Whitby 💕 We only booked room only so for breakfast we went out too! But there is an option of a continental breakfast at the hotel .We used the hotel as a base it's a super location and great for a short stay especially for a family of five which is difficult to find 💕. We were also given complimentary milk and tea and coffee making facilities in our apartment and fresh orange juice in the morning which is a lovely touch thank you! We would recommend experiencing this unique hotel which capulates the imagination and looks over on to the famous Whitby Abby 💕We had a wonderful stay thank you to the La Rosa hotel and wonderful staff!

- Deborah (8/5): Enjoyed it very much and will return - Clean, quirky and welcoming. Eclectic collections of curios adorn this lovely hotel. Note that breakfast is a light continental offer. Fresh milk and orange juice supplied to each room daily. Very warm welcome and everyone is keen to assure your comfort. And - fabulous views of the Abbey, St Mary’s and the harbour. Parking - took a couple of circuits to find a spot but this is typical in Whitby -just be prepared. The lighting in bathroom and bedside was too quirkily dark for our liking; there was no bedside lamp with light enough to read by. Also a nuisance if you needed to get up without disturbing your partner! Our room had no wardrobe but we managed perfectly well with the hooks & hangers in our lobby area, but this may not suit everyone.

Well worth an experience and made for a grea - Love the quirky boutique feel of the place and the unique decor. Helen was a friendly and helpful host and John the dog was a great assistant. Loved the roll top bath. A unique touch and a luxurious guilty pleasure. A bit dusty. The bed canopy in arabesque was a rather tatty, and there was limited space to put things.

The La Rosa from, entrance lounges and rooms is like a tribute to ephemera before the advent of jet travel. Staying here is a great compliment to the charms of Whitby.
- alisonhS8984DL (10/5): A top gem of a hotel.......it will not disappoint! - This absolute gem of a hotel was so welcoming and so friendly. Quirky around every corner! You will not be disappointed. Breakfast was served to your door if wanted and was the cutest, yet different breakfast. Staff were amazing which included John the dog!! We will be returning to stay in the Saloon room in October. Thanks again for an amazing stay guys.......don't ever change!!
- lisamS508WR (10/5): Spectacular Hotel. - Fantastic hotel with beautiful views over the harbour and Whitby Abbey. We stayed in The Stoker room which was amazing, I loved it. Central for everything in Whitby. Waking up to the sunrise from the bed over Whitby Abbey is beautiful. Lovely breakfast served in your room, or you can eat in the breakfast room. After a full day exploring, a relax in the huge roll top bath with the bubble bath supplied is luxurious. Bed was very comfy. We stayed for 2 nights and slept very well. Can't fault this hotel, one of the best we have stayed in. Not your traditional, boring hotel room. If you are looking for something a bit different, the room is spectacular.

Very pleasant greeting from the owners and a lovely served breakfast with some very nice personal touches. A lot of thought had gone into the decor some of which was highly amusing, not least the draped mannikin in the cocktail bar. The cocktails were excellent as well. If you want all modcons of a modern hotel chain then not for you but if you like something unique, personal and quirky then this is for you. Made our road trip down the East Coast very special.
- debbienZ3050JH (4/5): Not for me - Not one for me I’m afraid, we stayed in the Arab room, this smelt very fusty to me, just lack of basics, no dressing table, no where to sit other than a small rocking chair, bathroom very dimly lit, one of the floorboards very spongy so clearly going rotten, I get that it’s quirky but our room definitely smelt fusty, tea bags etc but no milk cartons only milk left at your door at approximately 8.30 the next morning, no TV, bed so high that I had to use a stool to climb onto it, so not very relaxing, just 2 small bars of soap in bathroom, just for the price tag of £130 I thought was lacking.

No breakfast at the price top end of the scale but a superb, different lovely hotel

- AngelaG010 (10/5): Perfection. - My husband suggested we stay at La Rosa for our Wedding Anniversary and we were not disappointed. We stayed in the Arabesque room (2nd floor). Unfortunately my satnav decided to guide us into Whitby/the hotel by trying to take me down a ‘No left turn’ route & then ‘a dead end’ road and thanks to new asphalt/construction on the road coming in I’d gotten a chip in the windshield (luckily on inspection it’s a small surface scratch which didn’t render the car unsafe to drive) but it meant when I got to the road the La Rosa is on and struggled to find a parking space I’d gotten a little stressed! I went to reception (as I’d emailed in advance as we came into Whitby earlier than our check-in time to pick up the £5 parking permit for the W Disc Zone) & was visibly upset so the lovely hotel staff took me into the Library, sat me on a settee & offered me a glass of water before they even knew I was actually staying in their splendid hotel! After getting a cuddle from their dog Jonathan & calming down I thanked both staff. We came back later to ‘check in’ and they checked if I was doing better. The Arabesque room has a massive comfortable 4 poster bed & an opulent bath which is perfect for a relaxing soak after walking around Whitby. The complimentary soaps & bubble bath smell divine. We were given a choice of breakfast down in the dining area or in our room & we opted for it in our room. Again the staff went above and beyond providing me with both a cafetière & coffee bags as I’m a big coffee drinker and we were gifted with a bottle of Prosecco and a Card on our wedding anniversary. We pre-booked one evening for cocktails in the library and we were not disappointed. It was a fantastic experience to sit amongst the interesting/quirky objects listening to jazz/blues whilst sipping expertly mixed drinks. This was the best stay we’ve ever had in any hotel and we did not want to leave!

I like the place which was quirky and full of interest. Owner was attentive and very kind. I think some of the hotel is a little too worn - like the stair carpet for example. We were woken by scaffolding being removed from an adjoining building . I think it would be good to have showers but I like a bath so it was fine.

- Amanda (6/5): Interesting and enjoyable but not a repeater - Very quirky, great location. Lovely staff and we could park right outside for £5 for our two nights. The view from the room was fabulous all across the bay to the abbey ruins opposite. The bed was comfortable but pushed up against one wall with nowhere to put anything as no room for bedside tables. I struggled with the lack of a shower. The roll top bath was nice but not practical. There were cobwebs on the ceiling and the room had a musty smell to it. No cooked breakfast on offer although you could have pastries. I think a lot of people would love it for its quirky nature and forgive the other parts but I personally would have swapped the bric a brac for a more traditional hotel

- Jonathan (10/5): Amazing views and a very nice, quirky hotel - Such a great hotel - must be the best location and views in Whitby, looking straight over to the Abbey. Staff were lovely and the hotel is very quirky with interesting stuff literally everywhere. La Rosa room was great and bed very comfy. Nice bath too. Nothing - it's great. A shower would be handy but the bath was nice so you don't mind at all.

- CursedArtefact (10/5): A beautiful love letter to faded glamour - From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with exceptional warmth and care by the lovely Helen, Rob, and Iona. I had booked La Rosa for a themed, joint birthday celebration with a group of my closest friends, and from start to finish, they couldn't do enough to ensure that everything was perfect. They tailored a fully vegan banquet for us, and provided thoughtful vegan alternatives for breakfast. Iona's expertly mixed cocktails even included vegan cream. The dinner, cooked by Rob, was delicious and plentiful, from the pani puri amuse-bouche to the pistachio kulfi with spiced warm pineapple. We all stayed overnight, and had a lot of fun exploring each other's rooms, every one a treasure trove, brimming with lovingly selected curios, collectibles and oddities. The entire hotel feels like a love letter to faded glamour, with a generous helping of spooky Victoriana woven throughout. With no TVs to break the spell, the atmosphere is immersive, transporting you to another time. The tearoom and the cocktail library are museums in miniature: offering a glimpse into a decadent age where more was definitely more. At La Rosa, everywhere your eyes fall there is something delightful or intriguing to look at. It was such a privilege to be able to make these spaces our own for an evening of glamour, cocktails, and utter escapism. This is a hotel for creatives, dreamers and the endlessly curious. It's for people who easily glimpse the ghosts of residents past around every corner. We all fell under its spell and can’t wait to return.

January visit and I think it is a little hit and miss if you find the tearoom open or not but once inside you will be gobsmacked at the fussy interior/decor, lots of random items to keep you amused whilst enjoying a drink/bite to eat.
