James (10/5): A favourite stop-off - Excellent experience. Ideally placed if you travel up and down the country and very comfortable. Dinner excellent, breakfast too. The sitting room is very relaxed, and there is a resident cat who doesn't bother you at all.
Dianne (10/5): - An excellent property in the beautiful countryside with gorgeous gardens obviously looked after by enthusiastic gardeners. 🌳🌹🪻🪷 The decor is fitting to this country mansion and the whole house is very clean, and my bedroom was exceptionally clean and well stocked with soap, shampoo etc. and my bed very comfortable giving me a good night’s sleep 💤 The food offers a wide range for everyone’s taste and the quality is far better than many city 5 star hotels I’ve stayed in! The staff are all professional, courteous, polite and helpful and I would like to compliment Jack (a young restaurant waiter), who made me feel very welcomed and was very helpful ensuring I received a good breakfast (as I have medical issues). This young man is an asset to this lovely hotel and as a retired Regional HR Manager I see lots of potential in him to rise up - so GM watch out!! 😅 Many thanks to everyone from housekeeping to GM for making my brief visit keen to return for longer. 👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Morgan at Reception on Tuesday afternoon 15/7/25 was fantastic… very helpful, very pleasant! Dinner was very nice…and the wait staff pleasant and efficient! Our room was well appointed and beds very comfortable, with a nice ensuite and shower. This property exceeded our expectations! We highly recommend this property! David (10/5): - Quiet rural location in a converted country house. There are a variety of room choices, all include breakfast. The restaurant has some great choices for breakfast. Dinner menu is also good. There’s a cosy little bar in the hotel and other pub and dining options are a short drive away. I have stayed here around 10 times and it is my go-to choice in the area.

Martin (10/5): Great hotel - Really nice hotel,which is refreshing when hotels are becoming more of the same. It’s got a lovely ambiance and sits in grounds which are just perfect for a walk before dinner. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful plus the restaurant serves nice food at a very competitive price. We stayed there after my wife went to the Emma Bridgewater factory which is just up the road. It’s also close to the Wedgewood experience if you’re into that sort of thing. A real plus for me were the electric chargers for the car too. Thoroughly recommended.

We were greeted by Bella the resident cat who endeared herself to us. The room was perfect with a good balance of historic charm and modern comfort. Good supply of teas, coffee and biscuits appreciated.

I always have a great night sleep and the bathroom facilities are really modern. Customer Service just needs to be a little more personable as I stay here quite regularly and they haven’t yet realised with the ‘welcome to me back’ however it’s perfect for my family.

Carole (10/5): A hidden gem just off the M6 - We’ve stayed here several times as a stop off on our way north using the M6. It’s always welcoming, comfortable and usually quiet (just once there was a wedding there but it didn’t interfere with our stay). The individually ordered breakfast is the best we’ve come across. The evening meal offers variety and nothing is too much trouble. The gardens provide a lovely walk and photo opportunities.

Great choice at breakfast. Enough free parking. Walkable to the village and a lovely National Trust countryside. Two easy to follow walk routes available at reception. Set in a beautiful garden and grounds, on a hill so great views. The room was very comfortable and had everything you would need.

Sheila (10/5): - This was our second stay at the property. We returned not only for the beautiful location & accommodation, but we also enjoyed our dining experience very much. The included breakfast was far above average in terms of selection, taste, and service, and the dinner options were superb. Parking is convenient and included. There is a lift if you need it, and they also have improved their Wifi since our last visit last year. A loud event took place at the hotel our last night but we received communication about it beforehand so it wasn't a problem (music off before 11pm). Our only regret was not taking advantage of the gorgeous lounge for an evening drink!

Paul (10/5): Upper House visit - Stayed for 3 nights at the Upper House in a double room. This was our second stay at the hotel. We were visiting the British Ceramics Biennial and the hotel is in a good position near Wedgewood to visit the museum and to get to the other exhibitions in Stoke itself. The hotel is in a delightful position outside Stoke near countryside providing excellent walks. It is walkable to the Wedgewood museum. It is also a short drive to Trentham Gardens. The room was comfortable and the food good (breakfast and evening meals). In particular the service by the hotel staff was excellent and very helpful. In particular the dining room staff were excellent - nothing was too much trouble. We would recommend this hotel for visits to Stoke.
David (10/5): Beautiful hotel in stunning setting - Beautiful Hotel set in stunning gardens. Friendly and helpful staff. Room was fine, if a bit small, and would have liked an extra chair. Food at breakfast and dinner was superb.
Patricia (8/5): Mainly positive. - The hotel was very attractive inside and out and the staff were very attentive and friendly. The only thing I was not impressed with was the food. At breakfast there was no fresh fruit, to have on its own or with cereal. The burger I had one evening was very tasteless despite all the toppings, but others with me enjoyed their meals so I may have chosen badly.

Colin (10/5): - This is our third time here and we find it a friendly & comfortable place to stay to break our journey. The restaurant served good dinner &breakfast.Love the view & vast grounds to walk.
Karen (10/5): Definitely recommend - Lovely friendly staff. Relaxing setting, quiet location and beautiful scenery. Hotel had loads of character. Only downside we were unable to get in the restaurant both evenings as fully booked with external guests. We were over the main function room which had a wedding in on the 2nd night, however, it did end at 11.30pm. So would check ahead if you want to eat there in the evening. Overall a good stay.
Verified traveler (4/5): So disappointing - So disappointed, started off so well with amazing driveway to hotel and beautiful grounds, but lunch in bar - painful service, had to even ask for cutlery and napkins (even then they only came up with 1 napkin for both of us) Room really tiny, next room’s bathroom sounds could be heard so plainly through the very thin walls, lovely modern bathroom but already no attention to detail - mould on inside of shower door surround, non matching towels, even odd cups on teeny hospitality tray, room could do with thorough spring clean. Breakfast was even more of a joke - 8.45am on a Sunday morning and they had run out of croissants, pastries etc as well as muffins for egg Benedict, no fruit, boring thin white slice bread to make your own toast. On check out elderly receptionist was clearly on a different planet.
Sheila (10/5): - My only complaint was the wifi! It would disconnect every couple of minutes during use. Other than that, our stay at the Upper House was excellent. : )
Maria (10/5): Weekend Getaway - The hotel is beautiful and the staff are really friendly. Got exactly what we wanted, a relaxing and peaceful weekend. The only thing that fell short for me was the coffee at breakfast time, as with the foid being lovely, i would have liked fresh ground coffee. Would definitely go again and will also recommend it to people.
Sean (10/5): Home from home with no cooking. - If Stoke on Trent is your destination this is the only place to stay. Absolutely fantastic staff.
Rebecca (6/5): - The property is absolutely stunning set in beautiful grounds with great history. I grew up in the village so ideal for still visiting my family. Unfortunately there was a wedding and our room was directly above the disco so our second night wasn’t as comfortable as we had hoped with the noise. If there is a wedding, I would have expected the rooms to be allocated differently to put those not attending it away from it. The tv in our room didn’t work and even though the bed was comfortable the rooms do need modernising but were very clean. Breakfast was standard with a range of menu options and the service was friendly but nothing above and beyond. Given the competition, would really encourage the owners to consider revamping and moving customer service up a notch to match the wonderful setting on offer.
Ian (8/5): Restfull Stay in beutifull Suroundings - Nice to be in good suroundings in an historic building. Breakfast very good. Dinner is high quality but quite expensive and the portion sizes are a bit on the small side for hungry men. Good for couples visiting area or business people with larger budgets.

Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely building in a beautiful area - A very attractive building with interesting history. We didn't eat at the Upper House on the evening of our stay, but breakfast was excellent. Views and walks in the gardens looked to be very good, although we didn't have time to take advantage of them.

Steven (8/5): Pleasant venue - It was a pleasant place to stay and convenient for family events on Fri and Sat. The bedrooms were nice with up to date bathrooms but as we have discovered before at other venues rooms allocated via Hotels.com are usually not the best. On the other hand, the common rooms were a bit old fashioned. Great that they had electric car charging which we made use of on Saturday nights.
