• Stuart (10/5): Superb.. book it & you’ll be rewarded with excellent views, fine dining nearby, & a 1st class host. - From the moment we stepped into the Captain Vasilis Hotel, our host was welcoming, and it soon became clear that we had booked one of those rare hotels right in the heart of Chania, not only within the beautiful old town itself, but also as part of its history. We later discovered that our host was in fact the grandson of the real and famous Captain Vasilis, who once lived in this very house before it was converted into a hotel. Step outside and you are surrounded by excellent restaurants, narrow old passageways and the beautiful old port. We booked the double room with a private terrace, Room 4, which had a stunning view overlooking the old port. Day or night, it was a feast for the eyes. Definitely recommended. One point to be aware of, although this is no fault of the hotel: cars are not permitted in the old town itself, so there is a short walk of around 3 minutes from the nearest accessible point. Parking can be a little difficult if you have a hire car, as the town recently introduced paid parking in the nearby streets and car parks. At the time of our visit, parking was limited to a maximum of 4 hours, with free parking between 9:00pm and 7:00am. However, if you are happy to park slightly outside the immediate old town area, you should be able to find free street parking.

• Philippe (5/5): Sérieux problème d'accès à la terrasse de la "chambre double standard avec vue sur mer" - Bon accueil, vue sur le port et la mer; La chambre (6), annoncée avec terrasse, ne présente un accès à cette terrasse qu': -en passant par la fenêtre!!! ou -en descendant par un escalier à l'étage inférieur, puis en remontant par un escalier extérieur en colimaçon, puis en traversant la terrasse de la chambre voisine en franchissant ses limites privatives!!!

La sedicente camera matrimoniale standard di 15 mq corrispondeva a una camera lillipuziana di 9mq + 2,5mq del bagno, dove mancavano gli spazi essenziali per ogni manovra. Inoltre il tutto non era all'altezza di un 4 stelle. Materasso sfondato, malgrado il topping cosmetico. Ci siamo dovute arrangiare chiedendo un filo volante aggiuntivo per potere ricaricare i telefoni perché non c'erano prese in camera, salvo quelle già occupate dalle luci dei comodini. Bagno microscopico cieco senza un sistema di areazione. Tutte le mattine alle 5 il fragore delle bottiglie di vetro buttate dai numerosi ristoranti attorno.
• Ralph (10/5): Unvergesslich - Der Blick auf den Hafen ist traumhaft, sowohl aus dem Zimmer als auch von der Terrasse, die unser Lieblingsplatz war. Die Lage ist ideal. Direkt am Hafen und in der Altstadt, zum Strand und zum Supermarkt zu Fuß maximal 15 Minuten. Alles ist sehr privat und familiär. Konstantina war sehr freundlich, sie und Vasilis haben uns viele Tipps gegeben und sich rührend um uns gekümmert. Zum Frühstück auf Wunsch verschiedenste Eierspeisen, frisch gepresster, Orangensaft und diverse Kaffees, auch griechischer. Zimmer und WC wurden immer gründlich gereinigt. Wichtig zu wissen für die, die gern bei offenem Fenster schlafen: Obwohl wir die erste Oktoberhälfte dort waren, herrschte im Hafen Trubel bis weit in die Nacht. Vasilis stellt gern Ohrstöpsel zur Verfügung. Die Zimmer haben allerdings auch Klimaanlage...

• Jochen (8/5): - Der Vorteil ist gleichzeitig der Nachteil: Die Lage direkt am venezianischen Hafen. Nur 6 Zimmer, in einem 400 Jahre alten Haus, ordentlich ausgestattet, auch mit neuer Klimaanlage. Eine tolle Aussicht, tolle Atmosphäre, von der Dachterrasse eine tolle Atmosphäre. Das bedeutet aber auch: Zugang durch die engen Gassen der Altstadt, keine Zufahrt mit dem Auto. Parken im öffentlichen Raum/an Straßen, so dass man mit dem Gepäck unter Umständen relativ weit zu Fuß laufen muss. Nachts ist es, zumindest im Sommer, von dem Treiben am gut besuchten Hafen, ziemlich geräuschvoll. Die Holz-Schlagläden dämpfen zwar etwas, man darf aber nicht empfindlich sein, unbedingt mit offenem Fenster schlafen wollen, - oder man feiert einfach mit. Kann aber bis 3 Uhr in der Nacht gehen… Das Personal ist sehr freundlich, gibt gute Tipps für Restaurants und Ausflüge in und um Chania! Das Frühstück ist „klein“, aber vollständig: verschiedene Kaffee oder Tee, frisch gepresster Orangensaft, diverse frisch zubereitete Eier, Brot, Wurst, Käse, Joghurt, frisches Obst, Cerejalien…. Alles da. Besonderen Dank an Konstantina, die leider nur vorübergehend (als Studentin in den Ferien) dort arbeitet.

We had private patio in front of our room (when booking we thought it was a common area, but thankfully it was not!). There were no doors to the patio, but there were a pair of chairs and a small coffee table in the patio which we were allowed to use by jumping from the window. The staff was very friendly. Overall a great experience, would definitely recommend staying at captain Vasilis hotel.

• Williams (9/5): A Gem in the Heart of Chania Old Town - We had a fantastic stay at Captain Vasilis Hotel, a small and charming traditional hotel perfectly located right in the center of the old Venetian Harbour. The location couldn't have been better—everything in the Old Town was just a short and easy walk away, yet the hotel still felt peaceful and welcoming. Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and beautifully equipped with all the modern comforts we could ask for—an excellent air conditioning system, a well-stocked minibar, a Nespresso machine, and , a modern bathroom with a great shower. The real highlight, though, was the stunning view over the harbour—absolutely magical at sunrise and sunset. Each morning, we enjoyed a traditional breakfast served with warm hospitality. The local yogurt was especially delicious—fresh, creamy, and the perfect way to start the day. Housekeeping kept the room immaculate with daily cleaning, which we really appreciated. Captain Vasilis Hotel truly blends traditional charm with modern comfort, and the friendly atmosphere made us feel right at home. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to experience the best of Chania Old

So, whereas the bedroom was kind of on the small size compared with modern build equivalents, the layout was charming in its authenticity

• Rowena (9/5): Fabulously friendly stay right in heart of ancient town, fab views - the view from the room was exceptional. nothing to do with the hotel, but I wouldn't recommend taking a hire car into the old town, even in quiet season it was extremely difficult to find somewhere to park.

Due to the location on the old town harbour, the noise from the Amphora Taverna below was intrusive, particularly as late evening became early morning and the traditional Greek music replaced by boom boom modern music, until 4am!

• Katharina (9/5): We would definately come back! - Very nice hotel, in the middle of oldtown. The old house was renovated in a lovely way and with love for details. It offers a very nice roof-terrace overlooking the old Ventian Harbour – perfect spot for relaxing and enjoying the sights of Chania. The room was spacious, bright and comfortable, with pretty furniture. We had a perfect sea-view with morning sun. The breakfast had everything we wanted, including freshly squeezed orange juice! The hotel is located very central, in the middle of the old town, close to restaurants, sights, etc. As with all the old-town-houses you can not drive there directlnby car, finding a parking spot close by at the public square can be a bit tricky, but it is possible (just takes a bit of time). We thought that the restaurants (close by) would be quite loud in the evening, but in the end, it was ok for us and we slept well even though we heard the music and the mumbling of people in the background.

We loved the historic building and location in the centre of the old town. Vasilis and his team were friendly and welcoming, and the hospitality was excellent. Rooms and communal areas were cleaned daily. Breakfast was delicious and there was lots of choice, including juice squeezed freshly as you arrived. We would return without hesitation. No air con. We loved the atmosphere of being right on the harbour but light sleepers may find the front facing rooms noisy.

Only a 2 minute walk to the Harbour, where there were many many Tavernas. The accomadation was an original building, with so much character.

The staff was incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to ensure I had everything I needed. The location was perfect, close to all the main attractions. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again on my next visit!

• Testa (10/5): Deluxe room with balcony and sea view - Great view over the old port and private balcony to enjoy sunrise and chill evenings. Vasilis was really nice and available. He helped us with our luggage, provided us with recommendations for the beach, and also he arranged an early breakfast for us when we had to leave for taking our flight back home. Very nice breakfast as well. I would definitely recommend this hotel! The hotel is right in the old town city centre which means cars are not allowed inside. There is a public car park just at 4 minutes' walk from the hotel, but it can be busy, especially during evenings. There is no lift to get to the room on the second floor, so we had to carry our luggage upstairs, but vasilis was really kind and helped us. Mild noise from outside during the night as we were right in the city centre but absolutely manageable with windows closed and A/C on.

• Karin (8/5): OBS! Finns inget "lyxrum" med "egen" terrass! - Charmigt och gemytligt litet hotell med mycket bra och vänlig service. MEN vi valde och betalade för "lyxrum med egen terrass" - vilket visade sig INTE vara "egen" terrass... På vår terass, precis utanför vårt fönster och balkongöppning, kunde grannarna gå för att nå sin lilla terrass. Det var en obehaglig känsla, då man aldrig kunde känna sig ensam, privat eller osedd i det lilla hotellrummet. Detta motsvarade inte mina förväntningar, tyvärr.

• Matthew (10/5): - Hotel is beautiful, has a lot of old character, but with good plumbing/amenities, exceptionally clean, and in about the best location in the heart of the old town. Staff were friendly, reserved but very helpful when asked. Chania is a world apart, relaxing and well with a visit.
• Jackie (10/5): Beautiful Hotel, Close to Everything, Wonderful Staff. Stay here! - I loved this hotel. My room was large and beautifully furnished, with a wonderful view overlooking the port. The hotel was close to everything. I really loved the decor, and the old world feel. The staff and owner were lovely, helpful, and accommodating. Breakfast was very nice. As a solo traveler, I felt very safe. I would recommend, and would stay here again when visiting Chania.

Noise from adjacent hotels late at night Our room was probably smaller than others and had no armchair.
• Helen (10/5): I love the room and staff . I will be back next year xxxxx - I’m an English person and I like English Breakfast tea which some Cretan places use. Everything else was good but I didn’t have good tea with semi skimmed milk. Otherwise everything was fine. As I just said better quality of tea.
