Guest Reviews
- Osvaldo (10/5): Great value! Would stay here again. - staff was super friendly, parking was easy, room was clean and spacious, good location - loved it! n/a
- dwyerdcw (8/5): New, clean and a great value - The room rate and included breakfast made this hotel a good value. Our suite was very spacious, clean and well appointed. The oversized bathroom was a plus with three of us in the room. Our corner room 301 had 2 outdoor balconies but was very noisy with traffic and emergency vehicle sirens. There is a fire station and a major hospital blocks away. We recommend asking for a room on the side away from the streets. The first night we had guests directly above us with small children who were running and jumping on the floor until almost 10:00 p.m. If that type of noise bothers you ask for a top floor room. Water temperature in the shower was only tepid even after letting it run for at least 5 minutes. It's a quick walk to the downtown pedestrian mall but it did feel a bit dicey walking up Ridge Street after dark. Charlottesville has a marked homeless problem so be careful especially around the Downtown Mall area at night.

- teyes2025 (4/5): Disappointed stay - I stayed here for three nights due to a snowstorm so I could be closer to work. Check-in was fine, but the overall stay was very disappointing.
Hot water was inconsistent and on the second and third nights there was barely any hot water at all, even after running it for several minutes. There was visible mold along the shower seams, which was concerning. The mini fridge froze all of my food, making it unusable. The gym was dusty and had no sanitizing wipes available. On top of that, the room was very noisy — doors opening and closing nearby were loud enough to wake me up at night.
I reported the hot water and fridge issues to the front desk and was told an engineer would look at it, but no one ever came before I checked out. I was exhausted from working long shifts and walking to and from work due to the weather, and this stay was far from restful.
I usually expect better consistency and comfort from a Marriott property. Hopefully others won’t have to experience the same issues. Stay safe, everyone!
- JOHN (5/5): - Good location for access to the sites. Seemed like an older building; bedroom floor squeaked. Shower water pressure a little weak. Need hand rails in the shower for safety.
- Ronald (9/5): - no tv service
- Kristi (9/5): - Staff was very kind and courteous Noise from the street. Used fan noise on phone to sleep

- Gloria (5/5): Ok, it was a place to rest. - Cold and icky Sausage was cold, egge were watery and cold, no toast or bacon
Bathroom sink had tons of mold. Shower also had mold.

- allyouneedistara (10/5): Nice place to stay! - We stayed here on a road trip. The front desk personnel were fantastic and easy to ask questions to. The area around the hotel has a nice playground and easy walk to the downtown mall for food. We really liked how close to campus we were to drive over and see that too. The parking was easy as well. Breakfast was good. We have no complaints.

- Gerald (9/5): Really good stay over all.would stay here again if we were in the area - Location, beds comfortable. Rooms clean. Turkey sausage at breakfast. Nasty. Offer pork as well.

- LeiMeredith (10/5): - 10/10 stay! Clean, spacious suite rooms. Very kind, professional staff. Some rooms are pet-friendly, which I needed for this trip. Walkable to the downtown outdoor mall area which was great. Good continental breakfast. Would 100% recommend and would definitely stay again!
- Antonio (10/5): - I recently stayed at the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Charlottesville and was genuinely impressed by the quality of the room. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that cleanliness is a top priority here. The space was spotless — fresh linens, dust-free surfaces, and a well-maintained bathroom.

- filmdehaven (10/5): A Hotel That Truly Goes Above and Beyond - We recently stayed here while in town for a wedding, and I can’t say enough good things about our experience. Originally, we had booked another hotel but realized it wasn’t as central to downtown as we had hoped. I called this hotel and spoke with the manager, Samir, who went above and beyond to help us. Not only did he assure me that there were enough rooms available for our large group, but he also made sure we were situated close to one another — something that made coordinating during a busy wedding weekend so much easier.
When we arrived, Samir personally greeted us with such warmth and hospitality. It set the tone for the rest of our stay. The entire staff was incredibly kind, attentive, and truly made us feel cared for. The rooms were updated and clean, and had everything we needed.
The location couldn’t be better — right in the heart of everything. We were just a quick 4-minute drive to the farmer’s market and the Downtown Mall, making it easy to enjoy the best of the city.
I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area. Between the thoughtful staff, excellent service, and unbeatable location, it truly made our trip memorable.
- Mr. & Mrs. Heminger (10/5): -
- Michael (10/5): I would stay here again and I would recommend it to others. - It was near one of our stops on our vacation. The place looked well maintained and clean was our first impression. Check-in staff was exceptional…very friendly and helpful. They even helped up with suggestions on dinner for the night. Only that the traffic was bad but it’s to be expected near a college and likely was around time for college to start a semester.
- MFSAkrom (10/5): Exceptional Fairfield Inn Charlottesville - We were visiting the Charlottesville, Virginia area to visit friends, and go to the historic Monticello. We stayed at the Fairfield Inn in downtown Charlottesville, and arrived around 8:30pm. We were greeted by the front desk manager, Samir Malik, who was most respectful and accommodating. He even upgraded our room to a suite, and gave us a welcome bag with water and snacks. The room was beautiful and comfortable! The breakfast the next morning was outstanding! Samir was working again, and just made everything comfortable and enjoyable for us on our departure. I would definitely recommend this hotel when visiting Charlottesville!
- 940angeliac (10/5): Exceptional Service and a Wonderful Stay! - I stayed at this hotel as an exchange student, and it truly exceeded my expectations. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel so welcome. I want to give a special shout-out to Samir, who is extremely friendly, kind, and always willing to help. He even helped us upgrade to a more spacious room, which made our stay so much more comfortable, and he was always glad to have a friendly chat with us whenever we passed by the front desk.
The hotel itself is excellent — the amenities are quite new, the rooms are very spacious, and everything is clean and well-maintained. The location is also perfect, making it easy to get around and explore the area.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting. Thank you to the entire team, and especially to Samir, for making my stay truly memorable!
- Culture41099778947 (10/5): Great location @UVA and service to match - As a UVA parent visiting Charlottesville, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience than what I had at Fairfield Inn & Suites Downtown. From the moment I walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming, and Samir Malik, the manager, really stood out—he went out of his way to make sure everything felt easy and comfortable. The welcome bag for UVA parents was such a nice touch—it honestly made me feel like they were just as excited for me to be there as I was.
I’ve stayed at plenty of nice hotels over the years, but the level of care here was right up there with (and maybe even better than) some of the big names like the Ritz. The rooms were spotless, the free breakfast was actually really good, and you could tell they put thought into the little details.
The location was perfect too—just a quick walk to the downtown mall with all the great food and energy Charlottesville has to offer.
Bottom line: if you’re coming to visit UVA or just want a great spot to stay in Charlottesville, this place is hard to beat. I’ll definitely be back.
- adamzE4369QQ (10/5): The suitable and much choose hotel to stay if you wan to visit UVA - I accompany with my son to UVA as the first simemster of exchange student. My son stay at student department and I choose Fairfield inn & Suite of Charlottesville to stay four days in case anything which request by my son. The hotel which I stayed is exceed my expectations. the room is big, decoration is new, and outside view is very nice. And notably, the front office manager Samir Malik is a nice man, he understands customers' requests very well and responds quickly. I have fully confidence that I will have a wonderful stay at this hotel for 4 days.
- evakV6245IX (10/5): Wonderful! - This is our 3rd day at Fairfield Inn & I must say the staff has gone above & beyond to accommodate us. I must give kudos to Samir Malik, front desk manager & Anayha Prince, front desk clerk, for their professionalism & attention to customer details. We have had a wonderful stay & hope to return again next year.
- Cosmopolitan594513 (10/5): Friendly and helpful staff - The hotel staff was excellent at making sure we had everything we needed. They went above and beyond. One of the ladies cleaning the rooms on the elvator with us, asked which floor we were staying and if she could get anything for us. I have stayed at hotels where you had to find someone if you needed anything and she took the initiative to ask us! I think all of the staff was well trained in customer service. The front office manager, Samir Malik, was super helpful with anything we needed. He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable in our stay. I would highly recoommend staying here!
- RockwoodNC (10/5): Above and beyond - Samir Malik went above and beyond today. As a titanium member I get treated well at all Marriott properties, but the way Samir took great care of me was the best treatment I have ever received at a Marriott! Thank you
- Martin (9/5): -
- p0ldi0 (10/5): Great Stay in Charlottesville! - It was an amazing Hotel! came from Germany and had the time of my life! The rooms are clean, the Pool is Great and the staff is the best! Next time i‘m Coming to town i‘ll surely Book it again!
- 393kailij (10/5): Fantastic Hotel in Charlottesville! - I've been in Charlottesville for ten days on a business trip. The hotel is fantastic—the surroundings are lovely, the breakfast is delicious, and there’s a swimming pool and a gym where children can play. The front office manager, Samir Malik, is excellent and has been very helpful, showing me how to use the laundry room and greeting my child every day. This warm hospitality really brightens each day, and I believe it’s a crucial part of what makes this hotel very special.
- keshain (10/5): Thank you Samir - Samir at the front desk was extremely helpful. He greeted us (we were a group of 3 travelling on business) nicely and everytime he saw us he asked about our stay offering lots of information about the area around too.
- mhbmd (10/5): Amazing service - The hotel itself was everything I expected it to be, however, which stands this apart was the service and the people who worked there. I was staying at the hotel and had a a bad injury (in town, not at the hotel) requiring my being hospitalized. My wife spoke with Samir Malik at the hotel, who packed my suitcase and brought it to the hospital for me. I also gave him my car keys to give to my daughter, who would be picking up my car at a later date.
I have stayed at many amazing hotels with great service, but this was clearly above and beyond anything I could have expected.
- Steinunn (9/5): -
- annalydiav2025 (2/5): Good stay, creepy experience afterwards - I had a good stay, the hotel is very conveniently located and has many amenities. Only things i would say is I did have an extra towel in my bathroom that seemed used, and the breakfast selection was good but only disposable plates and cutlery was provided.
HOWEVER: the front desk manager called me personally to ask if I could leave a review, after which there was some small talk, which I thought nothing of, but which was about why I was visiting charlottesville and what i do in my town. Then he followed by sending me pictures of him stabdibg at the front desk which was creepy. And the next day I got a call and then a voicemail about the fact that he was going to visit my town and whether i had any recommendations. Since he collected my address at checkout, stating that checking hadn’t bren done properly, I am really worried about him stalking me.
- robert (10/5): - Thank you Samir and all the front desk staff for wonderful customer service. . We had a nice visit. We would stay here again Dr. Bob.
- D4169FGmatthiash (10/5): Great Hotel - Went there for just one night The hotel ist great and in Walking distance from the center, the rooms spacious and clean, and the breakfast above average for the class. What made our stay exceptional, though, was Samir, the Front Office Manager, who was friendly, helpfull, and went above and beyond with accommodating for our group. He also was very helpfull with (hopefully 🤞) resloving our double charge (Booking.com and on-site) issue.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Very nice hotel within walking distance of most of the attractions of Charlottesville. (Downtown Mall, UVA, Main Street) Staff was super nice and helpful. Good bed!
- jaypeal (10/5): You Samir and your crew are the best! - I'd like to start with Mr Samir Malik, he was so nice and professional that I had to ask him if he was a trainer. During the conversation we told him that we were here for cancer treatment since Charlottesville VA has one of the best cancer treatment centers in the country and not only did he provide my husband with ample water to drink, but he changed our room to the 1st floor for convenience, and upgraded the room for more space free. Now I am positive that he didn't have to do that, but he did and he told us if we needed anything not to hesitate to call him personally. I told him that I wasn't anyone special to be fussed over like that and he said with his whole heart "yes you are!" and that I "would be blessed for standing by my husband like this through the most difficult time in his life ". I was too choked up to respond, I felt like he witnessed every single up and down that we had been through up to this point and I am beyond grateful, I feel blessed. Then there is David, and my apologies for not remembering the two cleaning ladies names, but they all treated us like Samir did. I also met Al Johnson who took over the shift after Samir left and he was lovingly friendly too, he showed genuine concern about our comfort and any need we may discover. The ladies checked on us in the morning providing us with clean towels, and they even made sure that the kind of cereal my husband likes was available.
Either you guys think that we are famous, lotto winners, or someone very special, but it happens every time we come and other gust echo the same sentiment so needless to say that this is our home away from home. And if is what to expect from every Fairfield by Marriott there is no need to use any other brand then consider the Hawkes a part of the family and will only use this hotel when we have to travel. Thank you so much guys for treating us like family, and thank you Fairfield by Marriott for providing the best of the best for no one special. Stay blessed

- Patricia (3/5): I will not return to this facility nor recommend Marriott managed hotels to others! - Cleanliness, furnishings, however the AC was excessively cold in my guest room (68 degrees) and in the public and lobby areas). Traffic noise was inadequately suppressed through the lower floor room I occupied. From the check-in at registration. it was apparent that desk staff were inadequately trained and inexperienced, requiring repeated interventions on correct computer instruction/operation. The entire process took over forty minutes, and that was after I reached the counter! Besides, the registration clerk was barely civil, using the term "SIR.* as a sneer and insult to prevent questions and requests from me. Without doubt. this is the worst such experience I have ever had. And this is with twenty plus years' experience as an executive coordinating and running conferences and education experiences for high level health care professionals, Additionally, my experience is drawn from locations nationwide {large and small cities} and most hotel chains as well as, personal travel to resorts in ten European countries.
- Kathleen (8/5): Anaya at the front desk was amazing. She was very helpful and friendly. -
- 161hotelg (10/5): Exactly the place to stay if you're visiting Charlottesville - A really perfect experience, clean rooms with all the amenities, a friendly professional staff, a delightful breakfast... I was there for a few days for a family wedding, and there could not have been a better choice for our stay. I especially want to commend Samir at the reception desk for being particularly helpful and a pleasure to deal with at all times.
- Lisa (10/5): - The staff were all very friendly!
- nycjem (10/5): Great hotel block for a wedding - We booked a large block of rooms for a wedding. Juliet was so helpful and communicative in the process and the rate she offered was good, including a very nice conf room that we used for some smaller gatherings during our stay The hotel is very clean with pleasant, friendly staff. The breakfast was quite good with many options. Pool is small but was very clean and cool (not too hot or cold). There is a nice fitness center. Beds were comfortable. The 2-bed rooms were much large than the King-bed rooms, which had a large shower but no tub. Not a long walk to the downtown mall or train station.
- Carl (10/5): - Everything has been great with no surprise charges. The staff has been great. The room was clean. The breakfast was good too.
- Kang (10/5): - Clean, new bathroom, good breakfast, quiet, spacious
- Marco (10/5): Exceptional -
- Claudia (5/5): Passable -
- Carol (7/5): Good -
- Tanisha (10/5): - It was very nice stay.
Welcoming, front desk
- reneet288 (4/5): Disappointed - The hotel is very nice and the staff was very accommodating. We had a wedding weekend of 35 rooms. Unfortunately, ours was on the 4th floor with very little hot water. Very disappointing as the parents of the groom. Especially as Lifetime status members for Marriott.
- Paul (8/5): Good, but why only disposable plates and cutlery? - The breakfast was good, but .... .... only disposable plates, cutlery, etc. were available. Such a waste of precious resources and bad for the planet.
- Qing (10/5): - Clean
- Jose (8/5): Good hotel. - The staff were fantastic!! Good breakfast. Localization walk distance to downtown. To use the minibar, you need to press a button every 2 hours.
No, this is not a joke. It's real.
If you plan on buying any food/snacks to put in the minibar, forget it.
- Victoria (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (8/5): Very good - Great staff A bit of noise from the road and concert
- Lauren (10/5): The room was very clean and comfortable. We will definitely be going back! - We will definitely be staying here again. Convenient to the Downtown Mall! Staff was excellent and the room was very clean!
- madfett (8/5): Convenient, clean, but with some trade-offs - I stayed at the Fairfield for several nights while visiting for business. As a newer property, the hotel is in excellent condition. It sits at a busy intersection of two major streets, which generally wasn’t an issue except during rush hour. If you’re arriving during peak traffic times, it’s worth planning your approach to the hotel, as there are two parking lot entrances that can help navigate congestion. The hotel offers garage parking beneath the building with two levels. However, the parking areas are extremely tight, with narrow spaces and numerous concrete pillars, requiring extra caution when maneuvering. Check-in was fast and efficient, and my room was clean, well-appointed, and met expectations. I had a room on the backside of the building, away from the road, which made for a quiet and restful stay. Guests should be aware that while the hotel is well situated it is quite far from the UVA campus. Downtown restaurants are about a 15-20+ minute walk away, and there are no immediate dining options in the hotel’s vicinity. Breakfast was enjoyable but felt sparse, with room for improvement. While I would certainly consider staying here again if the price is right, I might also explore other options on a future visit to Charlottesville.
- Richard (8/5): - All good
- michael carl (10/5): Great getaway. - Great location. Park across road and close to downtown outdoor mall. Breakfast included.
- Timothy (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (10/5): - Staff was friendly, bed very comfortable and the breakfast was more than we expected. Will stay there again.
- Sandra (10/5): - Everything was just perfect.
- Gravley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carol (6/5): - We had to change rooms due to a hot water issue so were in a smaller room, but lower price. The maids did not do a good job of keeping up with the room e.g. replacing towels emptying wastebaskets, cleaning bathroom. I was surmised it got a 9 of 10.
- Maria (8/5): Very good -
- John (10/5): - This hotel was very clean, bright, neat, and the staff were very helpful and always available. The room was very clean and well kept.
- ottoabc (10/5): Great Stay - I had to be I the UVA MedCenter and the hotel was very safe and close to the hospital. The staff, knowing I was not with her the staff was very friendly and helpful and watched out for her. The breakfasts were very helpful and kept her from buying a breakfast every morning… I was able to stay in the room one night and the room, a double queen was very comfortable and the bed linens were soft and relaxing… Also, the building was very secure along with the inside covered parking which helped in the cold January days… Will definitely stay there again…
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jessica (8/5): - 10 minutes from university
- seoung bum (8/5): - Good
- Karen (10/5): - Loved the grab bars in the tub and toilet area. Bed was comfortable and clean.
- Martin (8/5): - Hotel was great but difficult to find entrance. Area was sketchier than I thought it would be. Lots of homeless people in downtown Charlottesville.
- Florence (9/5): Great stay. Would stay there again! - The location was perfect for us as we wanted to be near the downtown area and UVA The pillows were not the best
- kristinmS6864DY (2/5): Worst Marriott Property Ever - Horrendous. We have no hot water. The balcony doors don’t lock. It is extremely loud - it sounds like we’re camping in a tent on a busy street corner. The blackout curtains let in light out the sides. We will be changing hotels. I can’t sleep here - or even shower!
- FarAway07654372047 (10/5): My Best Hotel Experience in Charlottesville - I stayed 10 nights at this hotel while in the process of relocating out of Charlottesville. Over the years, I've stayed at a number of hotels in the area, and the Fairfield Inn & Suits Charlottesville Downtown offered the best overall experience I've ever had. Aside from being a great value for money, it was in walking distance to downtown, featured an excellent housekeeping staff, and provided more than enough amenities for a longer-term stay. I would absolutely stay here again next time I come through Charlottesville.
