Guest Reviews

- Megan (10/5): Amazing place! Staff amazing! Definitely recommend! - Great place to stay!
- Van der Kroon (9/5): -
- Mahesh (8/5): The location and the rooms everything was super good and comfortable . But the attitude of the staff was very rude espec - The location and cleanliness The attitude of the staffs were too rude
- Sotirisaviator (10/5): -
- Doris (8/5): - - Beautiful, spacious igloo
- Great location for aurora viewing
- Super friendly staff
- Nice sauna
- Good blinds for privacy - Relatively small distance between igloos made it feel less private
- The bed position of the igloos faced other igloos rather than the lake / river
- Confusing light controls
- Food in the restaurant was OK, could have been better given the price and lack of other options
- Manuela (9/5): Great experience overall - The igloos are great! Paying the extra for the first row was totally worth it, as you get an amazing direct view of the lake. We woke up looking at a breathtaking dawn and saw the Northern Lights in the evening from our windows. Absolute magic! While the breakfast is good enough, the restaurant is very suboptimal for dinner, as they only offer a very overpriced set menu with basic dishes. Considering there are no other options nearby, that is not good enough for the price they charge for the igloos.
Also, we had to ask for the housekeeping service, which we did, but they never came. Again, for the price we paid, this is a basic must!
- Nicole (7/5): -
- Amy-Yin Zhang (10/5): Great venue. Highly recommended - Great spot - saw arura when we arrived. Very clear over the lake. Staff were super friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended. None
- Fagner (10/5): - Tudo impecavel no Iglu, desde limpeza a conforto.
- Natalie (10/5): Unforgettable stay in Finland! - Loved staying in the glass igloos! It was worth upgrading for the lakeside igloos - the views were amazing! The staff were very friendly and professional. The breakfast options were good. My family loved staying here! Nothing!
- Ema (10/5): -
- Alessandro (10/5): - La struttura è curatissima in ogni particolare. Lo spazio è ben organizzato. La natura intorno, la vista lago è semplicemente meravigliosa. Personale molto cortese e professionale.
Anche il cibo della colazione è ottimo. Materie prime di prima qualità. Assolutamente consigliato come esperienza. Un sogno
- Hoi Man (10/5): -
- Gilberto (10/5): - Everything was amazing. Quiet place, very helpfull staff, long walk, but doable to city centre.
Seeing northern lights from the igloo was another level of experience
- Hanna (9/5): -
- Timo (10/5): -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kevin (10/5): Beautiful view - The igloos are a really unique experience. Being right on the water, it has an amazing view. The private sauna is really nice. The bed is very comfortable. The breakfast is great. The windows at the very top of the igloo don't have shades, so it gets very bright in the morning and not very dark at night. It gets very warm even with the shades closed and it being maybe 4°C outside. The AC was blowing cold air, but it didn't reach the bed area. This was in April, so I'd imagine the heat and light being even more of a problem in the summer. Definitely need a sleeping mask.
- Randolf (10/5): Exceptional -
- Coralyn (10/5): So good. Must do while up north. - The igloos are just amazing and the sauna in the room is so cool and convenient. They didn’t have shampoo and conditioner in the shower.
- Athicha (10/5): Highly recommended this place!!!! - Beautiful scenery, very comfortable bed, fully equipped kitchen, sauna Nothing
- Leo (9/5): Superb -
- Brian (9/5): A must for stays!! - Absolutely amazing!!! Even without seeing the northern lights due to weather, this was an epic highlight of our trip. Such a unique experience to lay in bed to a 180+ view of the sky. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We were able to go visit the animals over at the zoo. The food at the dining hall was so delicious and maybe the best meals yet!! Only complaint is there was a single bright light on the rear of the laundry area behind the igloos that casted a glare. While minor in nature, certainly worth noting
- ashley (10/5): - The property views were gorgeous. The staff was very friendly & accommodating.
- Adil (7/5): Decent stay - Mainly the location and the igloos Clearly understaffed and the food is terrible
- Zainab (8/5): Very good -
- Mohammed (8/5): Very good - The igloos were great, very comfortable and the views were amazing. Staff were helpful.
The snowmobile safari and reindeer farm activity was great.
Breakfast was really good. The restaurant food was alright but should've been better considering the price. Some of the food was bland.
- Rebecca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shiwu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Abd Rashid bin (10/5): - The start to finish. Probably they should inform their customer on how to use the heating system properly. Bed was nice. Ambient was superb.
- Arceli (10/5): We had a good time but disappointed that we didn’t see the northern lights - Very good
Excellent location Atmosphere
- Claudio (8/5): Saw the Northern Lights from bed! - Staff was friendly and approachable. Especially Matias who did his best to book us on dates we had previously got wrong. Hats off to him for his patience. Also, we managed to see the northern lights from bed, which was just beyond description. Excursions were well organized and shuttle service always on time. We really had a great time! The was no instruction as to how use the en-suite sauna. Nobody told us there was no daily housekeeping service.
- Tara (10/5): - This place was absolutely stunning!
- Pin (9/5): Superb -
- Goel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kamlesh (10/5): Exceptional - It was very cozy and clean.Watching the Aurora from your bed was once In a lifetime experience. The sauna was added bonus. The staff were really helpful. The location next to the lake was very pretty and peaceful. Nothing
(9/5): One night at Ranua igloos - The igloos are really amazing. You have everything you need there. They're clean and cozy. We were there with three small kids so it was a little bit crowded, but it did the job. We forgot two bags with food on the table, prepared for our next accommodation (they were in bags and mainly packaged food/wine/cans etc). We left at 10:30 and when we came back around 17 (when we realized that we forgot them) they were already thrown away. So I'm kind of disappointed and was expecting at least a fast call or so to check if those are for throwing, when you find them - now we have 100 euro thrown away.
- Josephine (2/5): - Do not prebook activities and dinners with this hotel.
- Brooke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hok (9/5): Enjoyable stay - Beautiful site besides the lake, good location for Northern light (Unfortunately that's a cloudy night that we can't even see the star), friendly staff and willing to help. The Igloo is beautiful and well equipped. We also like the sauna
- Jenny (2/5): - The disappointing reality does not compare with what is portrayed on the Ranua Arctic Igloos website.
There is no transfer of luggage available from the reception office to the igloos/cabins. Guests have to carry or wheel or sled their luggage through snow, ice, mud, depending on weather conditions.
The only attraction that is relatively close to the facility is the wildlife park, but other activities are further away, requiring transportation costs.
If there is insufficient snow, or conditions are too icy, all snow-dependent activities (dog sledding, reindeer rides, horse riding, snowmobiling) are unavailable leaving nothing to do in the area except visit the wildlife park. Better to find accommodation in Rovaniemi to be closer to more activities and tour providers that are available there, as well as the many restaurants in the city center.
Food selection was very limited and poor quality considering the hotel’s self-claimed rating.
In summary, a very expensive and disappointing experience.
- Tejas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shweta (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leiria (10/5): It was a purely unforgettable experience. - Everything Nothing
- Fran (10/5): Exceptional - This is probably, the nicest, most unique stay that I have ever had. The setting of the igloos is breathtaking, the actual igloos are so comfortable and well appointed. There is nothing to describe lying in a cosy bed looking at the stars, or opening your eyes to an orange glow across a frosty lake.
Breakfast was brilliant, so much choice, although I did discover that seems to be standard in Finland.
It is a beautiful, peaceful and calming environment. Oh and the staff were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble. That I had to leave!!!
- Leandro (9/5): Amazing hotel, Friendly staff, Great Experience! - The room was very nice, with the full walls and roof made of glass, which allowed us to have a spectacular view of the Aurora Borealis from our cozy bed! :)
It had an integrated kitchen, bathroom and even a private sauna inside our room!
We stayed in an igloo facing the frozen lake, which gave us an spectacular view. The door was a bit hard to close, due to a defect on the lock, and also because we were not used to that kind of locking system.
We found the igloos a bit too close to one another, which takes a little of your privacy away, but it could be partially avoided by closing the curtains.
The breakfast could have a little more variety of food and drinks.
- Emilie J. (10/5): - amazing place for aurora watching.. loved it
- Natalie (9/5): Superb -
- Lauren (10/5): Magical! - When I first booked this stay, I had a look at some of the reviews and almost changed my mind. I am so glad that I didn’t! It seems that all of the previous issues have been fixed.
There is a reception on sight that offers a lovely breakfast and small selection for dinner. We cooked in our igloo the first night. The kitchen area is small but has everything you need to make a dinner on the hob (no oven unfortunately).
The privacy was not an issue as there are curtains and blinds available however we opted to sleep without them to get a full view of the night sky and even managed to sleep under the northern lights. If you get lucky, the lake offers an incredible view of the lights- the reflection makes it very magical.
We stayed in the lakeside igloo which had an unrestricted view and meant that we didn’t have to leave our igloo to notice the northern lights to begin with. The other igloos are very close to the lakeside ones though and the best views are outside anyway.
The staff were friendly and helpful. They helped us to book a husky experience which was €85 each. It sounds expensive but I couldn’t recommend it enough. You get a whole hour husky ride. We went on carts which we controlled ourselves but were told that they use sledges when it snows.
I would recommend hiring a car to get to the igloo but it’s also helpful to have in Lapland in general. Most places are a drive away. The car also gave us the freedom to travel in search of the northern lights late at night. We were recommended to go to Honkivaaran, which is a secluded spot in the forest with an outside toilet, fire pits and viewing point. It’s a good spot for viewing the lights away from any light pollution. Having the car meant that we didn’t have to pay for any of the northern lights chasing trips and had freedom to go on our own.
I don’t often write reviews but I honestly couldn’t recommend this place enough!
- Ashwani (9/5): Superb -
- Morten (10/5): A dream destination - It's magical there. A really beautiful place. The igloo is really cozy, the staff are friendly and warm, the breakfast was delicious. Everything was perfect Nothing
- Aveebee (9/5): recommended - Breakfast was nice. Great accomodation with sauna. Nice experience in a iglo.
- Markus (8/5): Erittäin hyvä - Loistava majoitus, rauhallinen paikka, hyvä aamupala.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lapin taikaa - Siisti ja ainutlaatuinen majoitus. Monipuolinen aamupala, ystävällinen henkilökunta. Suosittelen lämpimästi.
- Stefan (9/5): Superb -
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jaakko (10/5): Exceptional - Awesome spot and really an experience that one must have
- Rajat (9/5): Superb -
- Chiuen (9/5): Superb - Sauna in the igloo is phenomenal. We had great northern lights view from within the igloo
- Lakshmi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Goh (10/5): Exceptional - a good spot for hunting aurora, I got lucky I managed to get reflection of aurora appeared at the lake. the staffs are very friendly and helpful.
- Mona (10/5): Fantastic spot, we will be back! - Fantastic location, not even a ten minute drive from the closest market, beautiful scenery. Great breakfast, helpful staff, good selection of activities.
- Felecia (10/5): Excellent experience. - We loved the location and facilities. We enjoyed being able to see the Northern Lights and stars from the location.
- Yuan (10/5): Very special experience to stay in an igloo, you have to try it - Great view and fantastic igloo No
- Eloisehoganmakeup (10/5): Beautiful and unique! - Such a beautiful location, friendly staff and a unique experience
- Charisse (8/5): - Probably a magical experience in the winter or for couples, but otherwise not much to do nearby in the summer. The Ranua Wildlife Park is wonderful; highly recommend
- Poppy (9/5): Superb - It’s a beautiful space, the views are breath taking. Stay lakeside if you can, its honestly spectacular and we even saw the Northern Lights in April. It was a once in a life time stay and a bucket list experience. We were incredibly disappointed with the breakfast, we were there out of season so everything on site was closed. Our breakfast was dropped off in bags midday the day before. We are not fussy eaters but some of the food was inedible. We asked at reception if there was another option for breakfast and were told no. We were also told to go to the kitchen and speak to the chef. For the price payed for the accommodation we expected more or if you can’t accommodate breakfast out of seasons don’t offer it.
- Denisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amit (10/5): Over all stay was superb, good info got at reception and breakfast was really good. - View of surroundings is really good, night sky view from bed was awesome. Less privacy, wake up early due to lots of lights in morning.
- Joanne (10/5): Amazing experience - The location was absolutely amazing, the view was above expectation. Very comfortable beds, very clean, very warm despite snowing outside, breakfast was lovely (homemade pancakes and maple syrup delicious) and the staff very friendly and helpful. We really loved the whole experience. Thank you
- Varun (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tom (8/5): Very good -
- Ah (10/5): - Loved the Resort Arctic Igloos. We stayed for 2 nights and can't see Aurora due to the weather too cloudy. The resort doesnt provide slippers !
The only setback Is the location. No buses, free shuttle service to near by mini market. Transportation need to pay ! Next time should rent a car for more convenient .
- Shreesha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Benoit (8/5): Very good - Room, breakfast and the place are fabulous. Unfortunately the activities they provide are a bit of a hoax...especially the ones called "Searching for nothern lights". Do not except to go to find where the nothern lights could possibly appear: they will bring you to a defined and same exact place each time and IF they are nothern lights, good for you, otherwise too bad for you. Oh and they will bring you even if it's snowy and its 100% accurate you will not see them.
- Gada (8/5): Good - The glasses was so beautiful and the room was very warm and the view was amazing. There was a misalignment between the staff as each staff was giving us wrong info regarding the food. It’s far and limited supplies. I’d advice to Bring food and snacks with you.
- Shubham (10/5): Exceptional -
- Charlotte (10/5): Magical stay under the night sky - Staff was incredibly accommodating to all our needs, from the communications beforehand (very attentive and very helpful) to the check-in and constant support. Shuttles are booked for you to get to the main reception where most of the activities start from. The location is incredible, you are staying where other tours bring their customers to chase the northern lights and you have the view already available from the comfort of your bed. When the weather allows it you can walk a bit around the lake (or on the lake if you dare). The chef was super good, food felt local and was delicious with a very filling set menus available every day. The sauna in the room is a very welcomed addition too since it was -20 degrees when we were staying over.
Overall it is totally worth the cost and the journey to Ranua (we travelled from Rovaniemi for a 2 night stay).
Also note, they have an app that gives you Aurora warnings so you don't have to stay awake all night, just leave your phone on and wait for their notifications to pop up, you also don't need to be a wind and sky expert during your short stay here :) There was the usual sign in the bathroom that said to think twice before asking for the bath towels to be replaced which made me think there is housekeeping service, but we never had housekeeping so I am not sure if there is no such service (then it should be as it's still a hotel and not a B&B) or if they missed our room.
