Guest Reviews
- Matthias (10/5): - Very kind hosts, lovely little house ideal for 5 people
The little "garden" was an absolute highlight and offered the perfect view when taking a bath
Would stay there again
- Jen (10/5): - Such a gorgeous traditional place to stay in Kyoto. Hosts were fabulous and everything about our stay was great. The house easily accommodated our group of 8 friends. Highly recommend.
- Mateusz (10/5): - Traditional, tastefully decorated home, well equipped with modern appliances. Everything was clean and ready for our arrival. Lovely and helpful hosts. We were able to drop off our luggage early before check in.
- 森 (10/5): -
- Raniero L. (10/5): - Lovely traditional Japanese house in a super convenient location near the Gion district of Kyoto. Metro station is 1min away walking.
The house has an incredible charm, has everything that you could think of, and the owners were super kind.
- Niall (10/5): - Lovely traditional house but had modern facilities. Very comfy.
- Thompson-Molingowski (9/5): We would definitely choose it again, primarily for the location and the hosts! - It was an incredible location, with access to a number of things very easily. The rooms were clean and comfortable and very simple. Great areas together as a group, and comfortable sleeping situations. The hosts were friendly and responsive. Took care of a number of details for us. We loved it.
- Priscilla (10/5): Comfortable and cozy, very warm hosts. - Very friendly hosts, very accommodating and nice. They warmly welcomed our family, and offered bicycles for us to ride around Kyoto. Lovely house, kept us warm, and great space for a family of 6. We had a great and comfortable stay! Nothing
- Ross (10/5): - Great location, had everything we wanted especially a clothes dryer, was close to city and managers were extremely helpful
- Jennifer (10/5): Great place to stay, close to the heart of Kyoto. - Spacious home with everything we needed. After long days out and about it was nice to be able to cook and eat at home. Each of us had our own sleeping space. Very (very) close to Higashiyama subway stop and situated in a quaint street. Everything you needed was nearby. Nothing
- Tia (10/5): so lovely and staff are so accommodating - Traditional Home Nothing.
- Felipe (9/5): - Amabilidad de la anfitriona, ubicación. Nada
- Rose (9/5): Fantastic area and a beautiful, traditional machiya. - We loved the opportunity to stay in a more traditional accommodation and the property is immaculately clean and presented. There are excellent amenities for doing laundry which was helpful and the kitchen is well set up for cooking as well as making tea/coffee etc. Taka had messaged ahead of time to ask how we wanted the beds to be set up and everything was ready as requested when we arrived. The area and street that the machiya is on, it is gorgeous and there are restaurants and lovely little independent shops to mooch in. The two bed rolls upstairs were a little bit thin for us newbies to this kind of sleeping but nothing drastic.

Nichts

- Géraldine (9/5): Nice traditional house in a perfect location - Very comfortable

- Kylie (9/5): - Lots of room for our family of 5, including 3 teenagers. This was the traditional part of our Japan trip and it did not disappoint. Great location to walk to popular sites and close to bus, trains. Nice restaurants close by. Hosts were super friendly!
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rina (10/5): Home away from home with modern amenities. - Loved the location on a quiet local covered shopping lane next door to metro, bus and markets. Central to Ginza and other attractions. Traditional, charming two-story house with modern amenities and everything a family would need and use at home. Very comfy sleeping futons and lots of spaces to spread out. Onsen tub, cute zen garden, good water pressure in shower, great washer and dryer for laundry, and lots of towels. Helpful hosts nearby, effortless check in/check out and smooth stay. Great value for money! Back facing upstairs bedroom gets early morning light, would be nice to have blackouts and sleep longer.
- Loanne (9/5): Superb -
- Jonathon (9/5): We loved our stay, and would recommend to anyone visiting Kyoto! - Fantastic location, clean and spacious Nothing
- Frances (10/5): Yuka and Taka were the best hosts! They were very responsive and thoroughly walked us through the home when we arrived. - We had an amazing stay at this beautiful home, not to mention well stocked and incredibly clean. The location was unbeatable—just a short walk to the subway and bus, which made getting around so easy. There’s also a grocery store right around the corner that we ended up visiting daily, which was super convenient.
The home itself was full of charm and gave us an authentic Japanese experience. The tatami mats were incredibly comfortable—I was initially concerned my husband wouldn’t sleep well on them, but he ended up loving it and slept great. The shower was spacious and peaceful, and my boys especially loved the onsen-style bath—it felt like such a treat after long days of exploring.
This place was perfect for our family of six. We would absolutely stay here again! Nothing! :)
- Joanne (10/5): Lovely home, perfect for our family. Could easily have accomodated a large family - Lovely location easy to walk to everything that we wanted to. Quaint house, in beautiful Japanese/Kyoto style. Hosts were very nice and made sure we had everything we needed. It was winter but the bedding was very warm and soft.
- Ian (9/5): Traveller’s Rest - An excellent base to explore Kyoto in a quiet lane of cafes, neighbourhood vendors and a couple of bars. Komachiya is a roomy and traditional Japanese house (stone floors and raised wooden screened rooms) with modern amenities, including 5G wifi, an equipped kitchen, a washing machine and tumble dryer and an onsen-style “wet” bathroom. The property is air-conditioned; warm in winter and cool in summer. Local public transport is close and very convenient. A thoroughly enjoyable place to stay.
- Pergiwati (10/5): Exceptional - We love everything! The house have everything we needed, very clean and warm, since we came on winter!
The location also perfect, nearby everything. Konbini just 3 minutes walk, restaurants in the neighborhood.
And Yuka san the host is very very helpful! She helped us to send our big luggages & called taxi to the station.
Thank you so much Yuka san! Nothing!
- Damien (10/5): Kyoto is a beautiful city and the accommodation is very close to everything we needed - Our host was exceptional - very friendly and helpful Nothing
- Bing (10/5): Host is very friendly and introduce nearby goodies! - Clean area!! No
- Judith (9/5): Superb - great location, spacious, warm and comfortable futons.
- Marian (10/5): Exceptional - I was greeted by the owner, and she proceeded to give me the door code. So, keys were not needed. But there were keys for the bike locks if you wanted to ride around town. The owner lives close by and if we had issues, we could get a hold of her quite easily. However, everything was fine during our stay, and we didn't need to. It was super close to a subway station, and we were able to easily walk to places that we wanted to visit. We ended up using the bus a lot in Kyoto. I loved the old-style accommodations, especially the comfy futons. We are a family of 5 and it was big enough for us all to have their own private space to sleep. It even had a small washer and dryer which we used. A big refrigerator came in handy to store all our "combini" purchases. It was also nice to have a toilet upstairs. Fast WI-FI too. Overall, it was a fantastic stay, and I would stay there again with my family. I would be most interested in their smaller property that they also own if I were to just go with my husband. I can't think of anything that I didn't like.
- Mohammed (10/5): You will not regret choosing to stay in this property. The house, the location, and the host made it a wonderful stay… 1 - Authentic Nothing
- Pietro (9/5): Superb -
- Anand (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hitoshi (9/5): Great, convenient location, easy access to transportation and dining, lots of room, traditional accommodations, well mai -
- Lori (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heath (10/5): Easy access to shibuya crossing - The property owner met us at the location to tell us how it all functioned. It’s a nice Japanese style home with many amenities. The 7 of us fit well and slept well. The location was very nice and they had two bikes we could use. Overall we would love to stay here again in the future. Just be careful of the doorway leading from the kitchen to the back as I bumped my head many times. Now the owner did tell us to be careful of it and she had soft mats installed but I still hit my head.
- Rene (10/5): Sweet spot in Kyoto - The proprietor was very welcoming, the atmosphere was great , and the location was so convenient. If you are seeking a traditional Japanese style place to stay, I highly recommend this place. Since it is a historic building, it was a little cold. Bring a sweater. There are individual room heaters, but putting on a sweater was really all I needed.
- Samantha (9/5): Great location and well-equipped house. - The location was excellent and the host very helpful.
- Imran (10/5): Exceptional - The host was extremely hospitable and helped us with sites and restaurants when we arrived. The home was nice and cozy with all the amenities we needed in our time in Kyoto. The host also owns a bar just around the building, so she was easily accessible if we had any questions.
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Jun (9/5): Superb -
- Katrina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lori (8/5): Convenient location with great space for a family to spread out. - It was wonderful to have space for the whole family, as well as easy access to 2 bikes and laundry/dryer.
Very well located! We have found the futon beds very low and very firm, but this is across Japan, not just at this property.
- William (10/5): Charming, comfortable, convenient! Perfect place for a large group. - Host was amazing, the unit was impeccably clean and had great amenities, and we all found the futons to be extremely comfortable. We also really appreciated the code-activated lock, as it made it very easy for us to come and go individually without needing to coordinate who in our group should carry keys. Even as a group of 8 it felt quite roomy. A very charming, fun, and comfortable stay, we all wished we had stayed longer! Among all the bookings we had in Japan on this trip it was the most expensive by far, but the quality of the unit and the care and attentiveness of the owner made it worth the cost.
- Sonalkumar (10/5): Tradition and comfort with ample space - Everything was excellent. Kitchen was well stocked. All the essentials were provided in sufficient quantity. Very convenient location to access many areas for tourists. Very comfortable beds and spacious house for 8 people. We used the bikes and appreciated all the advice from the owner about local restaurants etc. Nothing
- Gant (9/5): Superb -
- Matthew (9/5): Superb -
