• Rosaleen (8/5): We enjoyed our stay but I would be reluctant to stay again because of the size of the room and bed maybe it’s because we - Nice location , lovely walk beside the river ,food was good , location was good , easy to park . The bedrooms in the lodges were too small and so was the bed it was a small double ,

Relaxed lounge areas for pre and after dinner Very unruly child in restaurant that ruined the peace, parents oblivious and staff allowed her to jump all over the furniture trying to get attention. I do wish staff felt able to quietly comment but this no longer seems allowable in today’s society. Hard bed and pillow let down an otherwise perfect stay

• Marco (8/5): Mooi en gezellig hotel op een mooie locatie. - De ligging naast de Thurso rivier is prachtig. Een perfecte uitvalsbasis voor het noordoosten van Schotland. Lekker eten en een sfeervolle lobby en restaurant. Badkamer is schoon, maar is wel echt aan vervanging toe. Past biet bij de rest van het hotel.

• Gavin (10/5): Superb! - Only stayed for one night, however the hotel staff were excellent, and the cleanliness and facilities were top notch. Room size was impressive, along with the ensuite bathroom. Evening meal was amazing and I would highly recommend the 8 hour slow-cooked blade of beef. Breakfast menu was excellent and the Full Scottish was one of the best I have had when travelling for business. Excellent value for money all-round and will definitely be back when I return to Caithness. Nothing!

• CM (9/5): Excellent, comfortable centre for NE coast exploration - Very comfortable, beautifully furnished and decorated hotel, with varied menu of great quality. All staff were welcoming, local, well trained and efficient. Service was attentive and friendly. Standard room was perfect, with daily housekeeping. Bed was comfortable and room heating could be varied easily, including opening window. Clientèle appeared to be locals, fishers, professionals and NC500 travellers. All were welcomed equally. Quiet centre for exploration. Lovely, short walks close by. One early morning awakening as glass was emptied into bins outside the room…..but short-lived. Otherwise a lovely, quiet holiday destination.

Evening meal very good quality Room very spacious and very nice, its dog friendly though, and I smelt dog in my room, more and more i experience this, its not nice for people who don't have dogs , a dog friendly hotel leave the potential for a dog to have been in the bed that you are now sleeping on, the room was very clean , no problem there. Also I had a dog sitting next to me with the occasional sniff whilst I was eating breakfast, dog owners think that us non lovers of dogs are miserable, but imagine eating breakfast with an animal that you dislike sitting next to you.

Helpful staff and reasonably appointed rooms. Suggest some herbal tea or decaf options in the rooms for the evenings would be a great detail.

• JOHN (8/5): Excellent country hotel with good food and friendly staff! - Nice village just outside Thurso. Twenty minutes from the North Link Ferry terminal to Orkney. Friendly hotel with bars and dining room. Comfortable bedroom with good shower. Nothing really. I am a frequent visitor as it is convenient to stay at on the way to Orkney.
• Jennifer (9/5): A good place to stay near Thurso - Ulbster Arms was a perfectly fine accommodation. The location is great and the room was comfortable. There were two radiators in the room which we did not notice until it was 3am and SO HOT. Our fault, but just fyi.

• Benedikte (8/5): Cozy stay and clean room but a bit lacking in service - Cozy common areas, fireplace, great food and clean room Considering we were the only guests at the hotel it would have been nice to not be overlooking the parking lot from the room. Staff was a bit inattentive at times and had to be chased down but everyone was nice.

Notre chambre était collée à la salle de bain d’une autre chambre et à 7h du matin nous avons été réveillés par la douche de notre voisin avec pas seulement un bruit d’eau qui coule mais un bruit de canalisation vraiment très bruyant.

• Alan (8/5): Room clean and modern - breakfast time a little off putting - Location was good by the River thurso. There were some walks from the Hotel and it was a short drive into Thurso itself. Over the road was a small 'Morrisons Daily' supermarket which was useful to purchase daily provisions. There was plenty of space to park a car and the room itself was small but had modern decor. Staff were on the whole pleasant and helpful. We thought rooms were in the hotel but found ourselves housed in a large lodge away from the main building which was split into a number of rooms. The breakfast options in the main were of a reasonable selection. On night one of our 5 day stay we found the TV remote didn't work. The next morning we handed the remote into reception who said they would get it fixed and return it to our room. Early that afternoon we found the remote had not been returned and went back to reception who said they had not had time to obtain two batteries during the past 5 hours. So we waited until the evening and found the remote was still at reception - but at last had new batteries !! The breakfast are was hosted by an elderly lady who had a rather abrupt manner. My wife was rebuked for putting two pieces of toast on a plate for delivery back to our table being told - no, the plates are for croissants. She was handed a small toast rack and the plates were removed. On another morning we asked - why are there no strawberries this morning? To be told they are out of season and unobtainable - strange as every supermarket we visited in Wick/Thurso areas were well stocked with them - someone with a friendlier approach would make breakfast more enjoyable. Every table was meant to have a full milk jug for tea/coffee. We arrived to find a jug with a tiny amount of milk in it. So my wife switched the jug with one on the unoccupied table next door. When we mentioned this had been done we were told - no, you shouldn't have done that. You should have gone to the milk dispenser. We considered ourselves told - we will never darken her breakfast room again. I thought we were paying guests and not at primary school being chastised by the Teacher.

• Beth (10/5): Fantastic "hidden gem" convenient to ferry terminals - We stayed in the Lodge, just across the beer garden from the main hotel. It was a fantastic place, we had our private bedroom and bathroom and the shared dining area and lounge. Plenty of room, even a little refrigerator. Even though it was just the 2 of us, this would be a perfect setup for a family or several couples. best hotel breakfast I can remember ever! Cooked to order, lots of choices. The restaurant and bar were also really lovely and the service was great. We were delayed by bad weather getting to Orkney, and this was a rare gem of a find that we just happened across. Convenient to both Thurso and John o' Groats ferry terminals. Highly recommend. No complaints

• Richard (9/5): A real treat for a work trip. - The lounge is lovely to work in and relax with a drink and bar meals are fantastic. Keep up the good work. The Haggis for breakfast could be better. Also, the TV in the room is very small for the room size.

Nice bonus to have the living room which we used as only our family were resident over the 2 days. Staff is amazing especially the manager on the first night whose name began with T( so sorry I can’t remember). The manager was equally in charge of the restaurant and making sure our stay was flawless including making sure the temperature of the room was just right. Breakfast is fantastic- great selection and welcoming staff. Nothing. It beat expectations especially as it’s in a village in Caithness.

Big en suite I no its an old building but there was a lot of dusty cobwebs in room on ceiling and also on blind. Had to wait 25minutes for a meat board starter.

Still lovely and homely and dinner and breakfast was fabulous. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Lovely lodge room with heated bathroom floor and separate lounge with larger TV and huge sofas to relax in. Very dog friendly. Nothing not to like

Molto bella e spaziosa la stanza, completa di salottino con divani e televisore. Il bagno è spazioso con molta luce naturale e confortevole. Nota particolare lo staff che è stato molto gentile e disponibile in ogni momento dal check-in fino alla cena e colazione. Niente. È stato perfetto.

• Veronika (10/5): Ein ‚very british‘ Hotel nicht nur für Angler, Genuss pur! - Tolles, sehr gepflegtes Hotel mit stilvoller Einrichtung. Unser Zimmer war eher eine Suite mit freistehender Badewanne (Blick auf die Kirche), Leseecke (Blick auf den Fluss Thurso) , Sitzbereich und separater Toilette. Es gab eine Kaffee/Teebar und eine Flasche Wasser am Zimmer. Das Frühstück war sensationell und das Beste, das wir bisher auf unserer Schottlandrundreise hatten. Das wir wegen unserer Rundreise nur eine Übernachtung eingeplant hatten.

• Catherine (7/5): Traditional hotel with basic modern rooms across car park - Comfortable hotel and good food, very well situated to reach so many places in the area. We weren’t warned of not staying in the old hotel itself (which was the main attraction) but in a modern shared house across the car park. Small basic very plain rooms with no view. No sitting area within the room to relax in but the hotel lounge itself was comfortable if you went across to it.
