Guest Reviews
- taesookn (10/5): One week was too short! - We stayed here during the Fêtes de St. Jean de Luz with our 18 month old son. The streets were busy and festive, inside the hotel however it was quiet enough for our son to sleep. The location is great, the rooms are spacious and super clean. The breakfast is fresh, local, chosen with care and the hosts purchased a high chair for our son so we could all enjoy this lovely breakfast in peace. The hosts are super thoughtful, know a lot about the area, so your stay won't be dull!
- ivany2013 (10/5): Great place to stay during Fete de St Jean de Luz - What a wonderful stay at the hotel, close to the beach, train station and everything else. I thought it was going to be noisy during our stay due to the Fete de Saint Jean de Luz, but it was surprisingly quiet. The hosts were the best part of the stay, they were very friendly and accommodating!
- maudes (10/5): Les Almadies, the only place to stay in Saint Jean de Luz!😊 - Wonderful, boutique hotel, especially if you’re American, Jen, the proprietor is also an American and has so many tips as to where to go where to eat what to see this is my second stay. I can’t imagine being anywhere else extremely clean and well appointed location could not be more perfect.
- thom1432 (10/5): Family trip to Basque country - First, I would say we felt like we were staying with family. That is the personal touch provided by Jennifer and Matthieu. They went out of their way (and did not have to do so) to make our stay special. We hated so much to leave and cannot wait to return. The rooms were comfortable, inviting and spotless. Every last detail considered and high quality appointments with well thought out personal touches everywhere. The hotel breakfast is not to be missed -- fresh and local healthy items (and filling). The location in town is perfect -- easily walkable to every restaurant, ice cream spot, grocery store, beach or shopping location in town. Parking is easy (recommend indigo lot immediately behind the hotel -- only 13€/day). The hotel offers the opportunity for local hiking trips and we really enjoyed hiking with Matthieu in the Basque country -- absolutely beautiful. After our hike, he took us to a traditional Basque cider house and then returned us to the hotel. Another highlight of our time there. The location of St Jean de Luz in general is perfect for visiting the region as a home base. So much to do in the town and so easy to navigate. Will look forward to returning again one day. Thank you Matthieu and Jennifer!
- G5564XYanneb (10/5): Don't miss out on an Amazing hotel in a fabulous location.. the owners are the icing on the cake! - An absolute gem of a find. This hotel is located in the pedestrian area of the town. No more than a 5 minute stroll to the beach (I never normally book without a pool-but really didn't need one). Going out in the evening, the hotel is centrally located to an abundance of restaurants. As for hotel, AMAZING, Jennifer and Matthieu are so welcoming and have a wealth of info they are happy to share. The rooms are very compact but have everything, very comfortable beds and pillows and I would recommend the breakfast.. a fabulous start to a relaxing day. Thankyou Jennifer and Matthieu for a most wonderful stay and experience, Anne and Adrian.
- 41NanetteS (10/5): Absolutely Lovely! - This lovely place is located in the heart of an adorable city. My husband and I spend 4 nights here. Jen and Mathieu were amazing ! Jen was incredibly helpful and gave us great suggestions for buying spices and jams. Mathieu helped us with restaurant suggestions and reservations, all of which were perfect! And their adorable dog was so sweet. I am almost hesitant to write this review for fear that when we come back it will be fully booked!
- hastam2017 (10/5): FABULOUS!!! - Stayed here twice, 2018 & 2024. Both fabulous! Great communication, help with parking & dinner reservations. Perfect pedestrian street location! Love the new, young owners! Nested in community. It’s comfortable & has lots of charm!!!!
- el13207 (10/5): Delightful Boutique Hotel! - What a lovely place! We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay here. Our room was decently large with a very comfortable bed, and the bathroom also of a good size with plenty of storage space. Note: no elevator if mobility if a problem. A nice breakfast room although on 2 of our mornings we opted to eat breakfast at different cafes nearby.
Hosts Jen (American)and Mathieu (French) are delightful, helpful, and speak English. They provided us with 3 excellent restaurant suggestions & made the bookings. The location couldn’t be better- tucked along the shops & restaurants of the Main Street, a 7 min walk from train & bus stations and not too far from the beach either
We highly recommend Les Almadies and would return if we were in Saint Jean de Luz again.
- 241baudouin (10/5): Adorable little hotel - This was our fourth one night stay on the way to or back from Spain. Certainly not the last one! Adorable little hotel, perfectly located in the heart of the city. Good service. The rooms are very confortable. Breakfast is a must: only local, top quality products. Thank you, merci, gracias.
- K1078RKannc (6/5): Hotel Les Almadies - Very good location, the driving directions provided from the hotel were helpful.
This property is a Family run hotel with 7 rooms.
My room was very clean and spacious.
Nice towels and wash clothes.
Unfortunately, I did not sleep well at all. There is no AC. At the time of year that I visited I was not concerned because I assumed I could open the windows as it was a nice temperature outside...except I found out you shouldn't open the windows due to a mosquito warning. This lead to a very warm/uncomfortable nights sleep. Due to very poor sleep I am leaving an average rating, if I slept comfortably I would have given a higher rating.
There were a few drinks if the mini fridge in the room but I had no idea if they were complimentary.
- klbell212 (10/5): Hosts who go above and beyond - This is lovely, comfortable hotel in an excellent location, but I'm really writing this review because of Jennifer and Mathieu. We visited earlier this month, and when we checked out, somehow left behind a beautiful little print we'd purchased in town. When Jennifer spotted it, she tried to track us down before we left to get it back to us. And when that didn't work, she and Mathieu agreed to mail it to us back in the States. That's true hospitality and I can't say how much we appreciate it.
- 424dang (10/5): Super lovely!! - What a lovely place St Jean de Luz is and this hotel is amazing…Superb hosts, brilliant location in the lovely old part of the town but 3 min walk from the beach, lovely room, fab breakfast all helped finish my cycling holiday off perfectly… Safe storage for my bike too. Thank you!!
- Barneymac7 (10/5): The best place in a lovely town - We've just had 4 nights at Les Almadies and it was perfect. Jennifer and Mathieu are lovely hosts, very friendly and with lots of great tips on what to see and do. We had room 6, good size, big bed, windows on 2 sides and nice bathroom.
Breakfast is varied and tasty - loved the peaches! - and beach mat and towels are available.
Location is the best, on a pedestrian street with some decent shops and bakeries, 5 min walk to beach, 5 min to main square that had good entertainment some nights. Nicely busy yet quiet in later evening.
We loved st jean de luz, it's a buzzing place, not too big, lovely atmosphere, good walks, wider area good to explore. Some great places to eat and good tips from our hosts.
Thanks again Jennifer and Mathieu for a memorable stay.
(PS, if driving, we recommend going straight to the car park and walk to hotel from there, 5 mins max. Got lost in the town!)
