Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (4/5): Basic - Had we seen the room before paying we would not have stayed. Room was basic, poor quality and decoration tired. It reminded me of youth hostels I used to stay in in the 1990’s.
- Gary (8/5): - Very well priced clean and tidy
- DARREN (6/5): - Room was OK and fine for an overnight stay. Quite noisy but it is a pub. Shame it doesnt serve food.
- andy (6/5): - The staff where very helpful the room was clean and fresh linen eveyday but the room needs a bit of work the floor was very squeaky the toilet door wouldn't stay shut or lock and the hot water tap didnt work.
Not really worth what i payed for each night.
- M (10/5): Excellent - Just what I wanted. Clean and comfortable. Highly recommended.
- Michael (8/5): - I enjoyed our stay, nice play to stay at and friendly owners and staff and jus overall welcoming
- Martin (8/5): - Good staff and so helpful
- aaron (8/5): - Good
- Gayle (8/5): Very warm welcome. - We stayed in a family room for one night. The room was decent size. The bathroom was small but the shower was good. The lady who checked us in was very friendly. The bar is nice too. There is a lot of noise from the bar until after 11pm, which we were warned about, and it was a Saturday so to be expected!
- Paul (10/5): Big room..clean...and comfortable - Big room..clean...and comfortable
- Barbara (6/5): - Not so good as it was band night, also they didnt serve food as advertised.
- Tamas (2/5): - Just
- Steve (10/5): Great hotel - Had a fantastic time at the hotel, would come back again
- Julie (8/5): Strange noise - Staff were welcoming
Space to park
Room was clean
Plenty of towels
Window was wide open to took a little while to warm up
A good night's sleep until about 6am when there was a strange ticking noise (possibly the heating) that stopped me falling back to sleep
- Marie (10/5): - Just what I needed for one night. Shower was a little cool, but I needed to get clean, not wallow!
- Christopher J (8/5): Decent stop over - Great pub. Lively atmosphere. Live music is still quite loud in the rooms until finish time 10/.30/11pm(?). If not your thing may be best to check if there is any music planned for the night of your stay. (My stay was Saturday night)After hours area is very quiet. Limited on site parking at the rear with narrow bays. Additional free parking on the road without issue. Food is available but I gather the kitchen keeps variable hours so if you intended to eat there may be best to check first
- robert (2/5): - Due to an involvement with problems internationally, I tried to speak to the hotel about postponing or even cancelling. I rang three ( 3 ) times during the week before. The answer machine cut in each time, took my message explaining mitigating circumstances but the hotel never rang back, pure ignorance on behalf of the hotel and its staff. Not good business.
- Martin (10/5): - Quality.
- Dawn (6/5): - The room was dirty and beds where uncomfortable
The beds seamed broken
Shower was just full of mould and cheap furniture plus carpet not hooverd .
Staff where freindly
But i wont stay again .
- Verified traveler (2/5): Un clean. Do not recommend - Not clean. Didn't say as other members of the party checked in and out in a moment as it was so un clean with beds that looked slept in covered in hairs. The decision was made to not stay.
- Debra (10/5): - Nice pub, room was ok. Good location. I’d stay here again.
- Dalveer (4/5): - The music didnt let me sleep all night no point staying here
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great little place - En-suite , comfortable, above a pub so can be lively with enjoyment from visitors. Free onsite parking. Tea facilities but no fridge. Breakfast not included.
- Gregory (10/5): Good - Very comfortable room.
- Lyndsey (10/5): - Lovely friendly place and staff hotel room was clean and comfy will go back for sure
- John (8/5): Nice stay - Fantastic stay. Lovely bar, outside drinking area. Staff really pleasant. Room small but absalutely adequate for our needs. Room was clean and fresh. The only thing that was a little disappointing was there was no hanging or drawer space for clothes. That said the price of room reflected that. £6 taxi ride to town makes it ideal location for us too. Would i go back? Yes of course!!
- Nicola (6/5): Ok if your working - If you want luxury this isn’t your place. It is for more a one night stop over. Nowhere to put anything it’s just a bed and a table. I was there 4 nights and That was enough. Having said that the music from the pub stopped at 11pm and it was quiet after that. So did get some sleep. And was an easy walk to work.
- Martyn (4/5): Great staff and people, It's a pub! - The location, staff and place was ideal but there was no food available and the TV's in the room did not work. I had no towel for 2 days. There was also noisy late night entertainment at the hotel. This in itself is not a problem but I would not have booked this B & B if I had known beforehand. The rooms were adequate but dated and everything was damaged or tired.
- Eamonn (4/5): Could have been better - Pub is lovely and bar staff friendly no food on site room wasn’t very nice old bed and a few stains on bedding tv didn’t work bathroom looks newish but dirty grouting
- Angelina (10/5): Friendly staff - Lovely pub great area would stay again
- Jamie (10/5): - Nice clean rooms friendly staff and a chippy next door
- Sue (8/5): Grey Horse - Only thing that let it down was although it said breakfast available at extra cost there was none!
Not a big problem as we called at Richmond Weatherspoons on the way home and we will be visiting again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great shower and comfortable room plenty of parking and shops close by
- Brianknight (8/5): - Clean tidy good staff not 5*but very good for thr money
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I found the property perfect for work and ideal for my needs. if it wasn't for doing 'Dry January' in would have probably frequented the bar and enjoyed the atmosphere more.
Look forward to returning again sometime.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Neat and clean. Plenty of milk for the coffee. Warm and cosy.
- Christine (8/5): pleasant stay and helpful staff, comfy room - Comfortable room, drinks, fairly quiet, helpful staff, was able to park at front despite late arrival because of traffic/weather (arrived 9.40pm), was given nice breakfast despite the refurbishment. Lovely hot shower. brief but pleasant staff - very handy for Darlingtom campus of Teesside Univ.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The room stunk of foist and damp, their wasnt any soap to wash our hands. The staff was fine until they swapped shifts and after was just horrible!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - definetley coming back next year hope to try the food when its up and running
- Sue (10/5): great night - Very friendly place just a shame they don't do food; room ace, would stay again if we are in the area or possibly just to go see the band they had on again
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Budget at £35, based above pub with small room, ideal for just sleeping time, carpets poor cleaning, rest OK and flexible they reduced the booking day when paying for accommodation from 3 to 2 days at same rate
- Karl (6/5): Grey horse - Do not do food anymore
Not the cleanest
- Clive (4/5): - Booking not known about. No breakfast available. Room light not working, Room clock not working. No coffee in room.
- Gary (8/5): Freindly. - The place was very friendly. If I was to make any criticism The mattress had seen better days & the wifi wasn't very good but overall I enjoyed my stay & would use again.
- Paul (10/5): Excellent place - My stay was great really welcoming and great staff...couldn't ask for anything better.
- MR ALASTAIR (4/5): ?????? - Bedroom room4. No cupboard, Drawers no picture on wall no biscuits , kettle on floor should on table ! No rules book Blanket +sheet look not clean enough also carpet look dirty need hoover + T.V not full programs + Breakfast give me white coffee weak + I order full breakfast they give me full breakfast was greasy + I never ask fried bread they give me 2 fried bread without toasted I need toasted
- Phil (2/5): RUDE EVEN WHEN IN THE WRONG - Despite a booking confirmation from Hotels. com and a confirmation from The Grey Horse I turned up to find they had no booking for me and no rooms. I was offered somewhere else they owned but it had no secure car parking and I was not told if it was a single/double/en suite etc. I found somewhere else but when I rang to speak to the Manager but got the Bar Manager who basically told me that's just how it was despite me having an email from them confirming my stay. I was then mistakenly accused of being someone else (who also did not get a room but had booked) who was by the sound of it more irate than me. When I pointed out I had not spoken to the Bar Manager as I had turned up before the irate customer I was told that it would be mentioned to the Landlord and if my number was on the reservation (which they did not have!!) he would ring me. Then the phone was pretty much put down on me. Hopefully the Landlord will have a word with his Managers about customer service.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Lite rom, usentralt. - Lite, trangt rom over pub. Renhold ikke helt greit, ikke mulighet for frokost. Cirka halvtime gåtur fra togstasjon.
- David (2/5): Hotel double booked - We were unable to stay at this hotel as we were double booked. After driving for over 3 hours it was very disappointing to be advised off this. We went to a sister venue Boot and Shoe in the heart of Darlington which was ok but was very loud hotel bar so could not sleep well. It was room only so no breakfast included or parking on site and could not check in for over 3 hours so all in all a very poor experience.
- jode (2/5): - This hotel is a disgrace I had no shower working room was filthy after 2 hours of ringing the bar nothing so I went to bar area and asked for another room or someone to fix the shower I informed them I have ocd an mental health an I couldn't go out without a shower..... To which I was told well you could go your bring daft I told them I would be seeking legal advice to then be presented with being asked to Leave I was told o could not have my money back an police were called thus was very distressing I also had to use my daughters15 birthday money and pay for the premier inn
- David (8/5): Excellent budget accommodation. - Ideal accommodation whilst travelling without wife and/or kids. Basic accommodation that was better than expected for the price.
- Alan (2/5): Waste of time...terrible experience. - Arrived at 3:00pm and after 10 or 15 minutes, we were told room hadn't been cleaned...can we come back between 4:30pm and 5:00pm. Arrived back just after 5:00pm to be told that in spite of having paid in advance 6 days earlier, the room had been double booked...sorry! Holiday almost ruined by these people...we were fortunate enough to find alternative accommodation at a nice guest house in Seaton Carew.
