Guest Reviews
- Mark H (8/5): -
- ERIC (8/5): - Very pleasant owner who went out of his way to make us feel welcome. Excellent location in the heart of the town. Large room, warm and comfortable. Safe parking included in price. It felt a little overpriced for what was on offer. It felt a little dated and could do with a better TV, but these are minor things. I'd definitely stay again.
- Tim (9/5): - Warm welcome from the host. Great central location
- Susan (10/5): - Great big comfortable bed
- Friederike (8/5): Nice stay - Really nice host and big rooms
- Amanda (9/5): Central Dorchester location - Host, Mark, was friendly, communicative and very helpful.
We liked the decor of our large room. Quite noisy - traffic.
Someone knocked on our door which was a little disconcerting.
The shower room basin was chipped.
- Sheila (9/5): - The property is very central and it has lots of character. We had a lovely big bright room and a very comfortable bed. It was a shame breakfast wasn't available.
- Christine (10/5): Really lovely. Would definitely choose to stay here again -
- Richard (9/5): Most enjoyable stay in comfortable central location. - Central location.
Parking.
Easy entry/check in & check out arrangements.
Friendly, responsive and helpful host. N/A
- Wayne (10/5): If we are back in the area, we will be back here - I feel that as a very positive endorsement. - The room was delightfully historic. Probably more like home than a ritz hotel, but we did not sign up or pay for a ritz hotel.
The owner is delightful and more than willing to help with anything needed. Minor aspects of an obviously old (delightfully old) facility such as the lock system.
- Bedford (10/5): - Everything
- CHRISTOPHER (8/5): -
- Helen (10/5): Perfect weekend break - Lovely big room, very warm & comfortable with tea/coffee making facilities & fridge. Fabulous location, very easy walking distance to restaurants/shops/station. Excellent host who was extremely helpful & made sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely stay again. Nothing
- Laurence (9/5): Séjour à Dorchester - Superbe accueil très chaleureux par Mark et magnifique demeure chargée d'histoire. Tout était parfait !
- Alan (9/5): - The host made us very welcome and his stories brightened up what was, on a personal level, a bad weekend.
- jean marc (10/5): -
- Tory (10/5): - We enjoyed the unusual decor, the size of the room and bed and convenience of the location for shops and restaurants
- Jan (8/5): Perfect . Will definitely come back again - Very comfortable attractive accommodation in the centre of Dorchester. Owner was really friendly and helpful. Nothing
- Paul (10/5): -
- Jerry (10/5): 10/10 such a lovely peaceful house. - Everything, host was a delight Nothing
- Terri (10/5): Beautiful - Everything about
This place is amazing we love how old this place is that's why we went back twice and will be returning every year hopefully. We love this place
- Beverley (9/5): Warm inviting environment a little different from the norm - Good location. Spacious room and comfortable bed. Good welcoming host Nothing
- Asher (10/5): -
- Yasmin (10/5): Wonderful stay and great location - We had a lovely stay here and would most definitely return. Thanks so much for making us feel so welcome. Nothing
- Jenni (8/5): - Lots of space, lovely atmosphere, felt very traditional and posh. Wish we'd known the property has a cat as my partner is very allergic. Otherwise ideal stay.
- Philippa (5/5): -
- Jacki Berry (9/5): Victorian Elegance - The location was great for us -- near Brewery Square and close to the place we were visiting. There were breakast places close too. The house was lovely and full of character. The room was clean, comfortable, and elegant. Having parking on-site was a plus. We'll come back again when we're in the area. The only improvement I would make is in the bathroom, where there was no place to put our own things down.
- Headford (8/5): Great location for Dorchester, would definitely stay there again - Great location for Dorchester a short walk from most things. The host was very pleasant and friendly. The property has a small parking area and I was able to park there in the evenings which was great. It was difficult to sit and work/use a laptop in the evening. There was a small table but it was too low and so I had to sit on the edge of the bed and use one of the tall ornamental chests of drawers which was a bit uncomfortable for me.
- Mhairi (8/5): -
- Lesley (9/5): - Great communication prior to our arrival, with clear info about parking. Friendly and warm welcome. Our room was palatial, very warm and cosy. A really good night’s sleep in a very comfy bed and so quiet considering the very central location. Ideally placed for eateries and the town centre.
The decor was quirky and a bit tired in places, but full of character. We’d definitely go back. Nothing.
- Lina (1/5): DO NOT BE FOOLED - Walk to my client. I didnt like absolutely nothing! I booked the stay as the reviews were very positive. The room was extremely dirty,! The bathroom was definitely not washed before my arrival. And I am certain not for some time. The shower tray was dirty, the glass door was literally opaque in colour from waist down. I thought it was due to old age, but I took a tissue and wiped a bit and of course I realized then it was the ampunt of dirt/soap scum built up of many many months. The toilet was no different. I closed the lid only to find lots of black gunk with hairs that had been there for a long time.
The dust in the room was unbelivable. You can srape the piles of dust with fingers.
The sheet was I assumed clean although it had better days. The duvet cover and pillow cases however I am not sure. So much so I used the towels (were clean) to cover pilow and one to cover my shoulders as I was not comfortable using the full duvet.
I stay in 2 or 3 places a week some times for work. In the last 25 years never had I experienced anything like this.
I tried contacting the owner after my stay requesting a refund as this is 100% not acceptable. In my opinion, its some sort of 'fraud' against customers as what is says on the description is NOT what you get. Not even an apology I received. At least an acknowledgement that this time he got it wrong would have bedn sufficient. But nothing.. shame ! Its a pompous large house from the exterior with extremely poor taste iin the interior that at least could have bedn cleaned.
- hannah (10/5): -
- Emmie (10/5): - Location, really kind and generous host, fabulous room. Nothing.
- Robin (10/5): Sumptuous and Classically Stylish - We visited for just one night but I could easily have stayed all month! We were given a delightful room at the front overlooking the junction but there was little road noise. Parking was simple, the owner extremely courteous and the room sumptuous. The building is historical and beautifully appointed. Although there is no breakfast available, the location is perfect for a short walk into town for the many cafes, restaurants and pubs that Dorchester has to offer. Highly recommended.
- Hans Peter (9/5): -
- Duncan (8/5): -
- Lesley (4/5): Disappointing. The name promised something special but the house doesn’t deliver. - Parking is inadequate.
Access to the house is via a gravel path - not easy with luggage.
Bathroom is very small and not nice - tiny cracked washbasin, unhygienic wooden toilet seat, grubby shower.
Bedroom is a bit shabby and cluttered.
- Natascha (8/5): Op doorreis door Engeland met een oldtimer (die gelukkig op de eigen parkeerplaats kon staan) - Heerlijk bed! Dat er geen ontbijt mogelijk was!
- Carolynne (8/5): Great host. Was able to come and go. Very little rules. - Location was great. Properly just me but the bed was too soft.
- Katherine (9/5): I would recommend and happily stay again. - The owner was lovely. The location is great A little upgrade of the bathroom, it was fitting but old properties are allowed new as long as it is in keeping.
- Kevin (8/5): -
- Mark (10/5): -
- Dru (7/5): -
- Nicholas (10/5): -
- Kenneth (9/5): -
- Lesley (8/5): - Mark was helpful and welcoming. The room was lovely with huge windows. The whole place is quirky and interesting! It could be made clearer by Booking.com that there are no breakfast facilities on the premises.
- Nicola (10/5): - Great location and comfortable bed
- Zara (10/5): -
- David (9/5): Very pleased to have stayed and just the ticket for what we wanted. - Location excellent.
Room spacious with seats and a coffee table.
4 poster bed a nice bonus.
Lack of breakfast is not a problem as there are plenty of esablishments within walking distance. Nice to have a bath but it would have been good to have been able to have a shower which is a persanal prefernce.
- Phillips-Green (10/5): A wonderful, perfect stay. - The property is extremely beautiful and unique. Mark, the host, was very professional and kind. I'd had a really exhausting day but he was so welcoming and carried my bag to my room. The room was stunning. I had a four poster bed which was exceptionally comfortable. The bathroom was beautiful, spacious, exceptionally clean and I had a lovely hot bath. There were lots of nice little extras on the room,e.g a tea caddy with a variety of tea, books to read, guides to the local area, gorgeous cushions on the bed. Quite honestly I didn't want to leave! Nothing. Everything was perfect.
- Richard (10/5): Our Stay at Beggars Knap. - I wish we stayed longer. Lovely room and ideal spot. Mark is the perfect host. Would love to go again. Maybe in the summer and for longer. Nothing.
- Pascale N (5/5): Underwhelming Extravagant Room - Owner very friendly. Extravagant room deco. Large radiator. Comfortable bed. Lumpy or hard cushions. Used two Summer bed blankets, instead of one Winter blanket which kept sliding around during the night and did not keep warmth. No shower water pressure. No welcome snacks, just a bottle of water. Very underwhelming
- Maria (9/5): Great location, comfortable room, wouldn’t hesitate to return! - Location for walking into town and easy proximity to Brewery Square for eating out
Spacious room, comfortable bed, warm and cosy, easy check in, good communication
- Janice (9/5): -
- Russell (9/5): - Great location, with parking n/a
- Elizabeth (10/5): Fabulous accommodation - Excellent location, fabulous room and facilities. Private carpark.
- Georgina83 (10/5): Exceeded expectations was fun and relaxing - An absolute gem of a place, amazing building with incredible character. Mark the B&B owner, was incredible. Nothing really!

- Gordon (9/5): - Welcoming host, and comfortable room A little hard to find
- Stephanie (10/5): - Good location. Extremely clean and well presented. Lovely host. Nothing to dislike. It was spot on!
- Keith (10/5): Stayed before, great place to stay, good value - The room was large and comfortable, ideally located property with close access to retail and food outlets, parking was available. Nothing
- Gabriella (9/5): Beautiful house, very comfortable room - Great location, friendly communication and a lovely comfortable room. Would definitely stay again.
- Margaret (10/5): -
- Kevin (8/5): -
- fizzylady (10/5): Parkrun sleepover - Fab location. Mark was so welcoming. Parking was great. Lovely cosy king-size room. So clean and comfortable. Nice comfortable bed. Hot shower. Towels and tea and coffee making facilities. Couldn't fault it Nothing
- sharon (7/5): Very pleasant - The house was beautiful and in a lovely location..the host was lovely and welcoming.. it was lovely to spend the evening in a four poster bed and to see all the beautiful furniture and have China cups for our drinks.. and on stylish tray the bath was lovely and deep and a pleasure to relax in.. overall a lovely overnight stay. Lovely entrance with some old pictures which I love and the house got a lovely feel. We realised that the house is old..but there was dust on the bottom of the beautiful pictures which could have been easily dusted with a paint brush ..there was cobwebs and it is a family home and I think i could smell the evening meal in hallway ..breakfast would have been lovely especially for the money. Didn't like when opening the bathroom window the Xmas Dec's were still there and maybe a shower curtain so you could use the shower without water perhaps going on floor .would have been lovely to have some history of the house in the room..as it has so much history
- Jo (9/5): Lovely place to stay. Will stay again - Perfect location for exploring Dorset. Right in heart of Dorchester too so quick walk to lots of places to eat. Easy check in /out. Great that there was parking on site. Room was large and bed really comfortable. Nothing not to like really. Shower wasn’t very powerful but I’m being picky as couldn’t find anything else to comment on.
- Maryann (10/5): - Location to train station and town center perfect.

- Paul (10/5): -
- Liz (9/5): A good base for an overnight in Dorchester. - Central to Dorchester. Easy parking. Nothing of note. A bit noisy from the pub across the road which isn’t the fault of the property.
- Karen (8/5): -
- Elisabeth (10/5): Underbart litet hotell med en egen charm. Fantastiskt värdskap av ägaren Mark. Kan varmt rekommendera. - Läget, värdskapet, bekvämt och rent. Kaffe / te och kaka på rummet.
- Peter (10/5): As above "says it all" - The position was superb for the purpose of our visit. The Victorian elegance of charm and quality was very unique,
and tasteful.
Mark the host was excellent with his local knowledge and his recommendations for worthy visits were first class.
Thank you Mark for making our trip very memorable. NOTHING
- Marie-Anne (9/5): Excellent, will stay again - Excellent location, large lovely rooms, comfortable beds and very welcoming owner.

- MARK (9/5): -
Niets
- Jenny (8/5): Close to all amenities in the town - A very warm welcome. Lovely large room with a comfortable king size bed,
- Tetiana (10/5): -
- Lars Erik (10/5): -
- Gary (8/5): Elegant rom - Beautiful location and warm welcome from Mark very helpful. Lovely room clean elegant spacious bathroom easy access to the centre of Dorchester Bed was very hard apart from that everything else was lovely
- Michael (8/5): - Bed, size of room, view, ambience. Small niggly things that were explained by owner satisfactorily
- Mark (7/5): Comfortable period property centrally located for all of Dorchester's delights. - Convenient location in central Dorchester. Nice period property elegantly decorated. Great communication from owner. Arrived to something of a check in crisis. Due to a sudden family event Mark couldn't be there for check in (hope daughter is OK). Clear instructions sent for using key safe to access room. On arrival Mark's wife and another guest had been trying for sometime to open the key safe. Managed to get it open with some jiggling and pushing. Probably needs a new key safe for unattended check in. There are loads of places nearby to get breakfast but for me would probably not choose somewhere again with no breakfast option - just a personal choice though. It's made very clear in the description that breakfast is not available. Dainty cups in room for tea and coffee were pretty but the option of a decent-sized mug would be nice.
- JANE (8/5): Charming room with ensuitein Central Dorchester with Parking. - Friendly & helpful host. Very convenient location in Dorchester. Unusual and refreshingly different ambience. Easy parking on the premises. The shower was difficult to use without a shower screen or curtain and to avoid water going over bath edge, although with high ceilings appreciate this may be difficult to fit.
- Katherine (10/5): - The place was really nice. Lovely big rooms, extremely comfortable beds, the bath was huge so could fully relax. Mark was a great host, we booked about an hour before arrival but he responded promptly and gave us all the information needed to get in to the property and messaged us after we left which was nice. Plenty of tea and coffee in the room and bottles of water which were a nice touch. It was really hot in the night, would have been nice to have a fan
- Jane (9/5): Very comfortable room and a very handy location in Dorchester - The owner was very helpful. He carried my suitcase upstairs to my bedroom and stored luggage for me for most of the day until my onward journey.
- Michael (9/5): Very pleasant, and we would be even greater fans if there could be a cooling floor fan. - Lovely, clean, town centre A fan could be provided for the hot weather in an upper-floor room
- graham (10/5): Very enjoyable stay in a beautiful home. - The location was perfect. Walking distance of the station and the centre of town.
The room was spacious and comfortable and the host extremely hospitable. Everything was good,
