• Warren (8/5): My stay was what I had envisioned and I am satisfied to have made the journey. - My name is Elke; not Warren he is my husband this is my story, Here is an answer that you probably don't expect. 71 years ago at the age of 15 I worked as a housekeeper at the Crandell Lodge. It was on my bucket list to return some day and stay as a guest. My wish came true even though the building was different the surroundings were the same. I used to climb the Bear-hump on days off, but sadly to say am unable to do that at my age now. The experience was great, and the restaurant across the road was excellent with the meal and service. It would have been nice to have a bucket for ice in our room as well as real water glasses rather then paper cups.

• Ellenor (2/5): - We booked a superior suite on expedia, on arrival received a standard double room. We spoke with Reception and later the manager. They told us they could not move us, as the hotel was fully booked however we could move to the suite the next night ("at no extra cost", even though we had already paid a deposit for the superior suite) but had to check out and then recheck in, taking all belongings with us. The manager stated that this was the fault of expedia as well as my fault for using expedia, stating that the booking information was unclear and would not refund any portion of the room price. She told us that we had to take the complaint/refund request to expedia. She also blamed upper management for not addressing these issues with expedia stating they have had several booking complaints in the past. At no time was even an apology offered. We had to use the hidabed to accommodate us all. Other negatives - no extra bedding or coffee, dusty behind hidebed, no tea towels, no TV. Floor boards gapping. Expedia dealt with our complaint very well offering an apology and compensation. We were very happy with Expedia's response but appalled by the extremey poor customer service from the Hotel Manager. Even after expedia called the hotel, they would not compensate us or apologise. I have worked in the Hotel industry and rest assured this is not a frivolous complaint. I have never encountered such poor customer service.

• John (8/5): - Had a fall visit for a couple days. Beautiful scenery, decent food options, excellent service everywhere and an interesting town. The room was older, but had the historical lodge feeling. Plan to attend again regularly.
• bob (8/5): - Room prices were decent, but the look of the outside of the building(including the convenient) front deck, definitely didn’t have curb appeal. Room was humid, and a shame that the nice gas fireplaces that are still there no longer function. 2 person table would be great in front of the bed, instead of attached to the wall blocking the small counter and in front of the microwave. Check in was across the road at the Kilmorey Hotel and we were told we wouldn’t get in until the exact check-in at 4pm or shortly after. Which is fine and we were told we could hangout in the lounge or the restaurant. Went to the lounge, but it wasn’t open until 4pm as well. We went to the restaurant and were seated at probably the only table that was being used that afternoon(only1 other couple in there). The table and chairs were filthy and so was the carpet in the restaurant. We were curious as to why it could be so dirty in there when it wasn’t busy. The gal serving us liked to talk to herself a lot and fix her hair in the mirror. Apparently didn’t know the beer menu as well(what was stocked and what wasn’t-was told my beer wasn’t available, but then came back with the one I ordered, but told my wife they didn’t have hers). I was brought a dirty glass for my beer as well. Wiped my beer can down and drank from the can. Definitely didn’t want to eat there after that. Even with a 10% off1 breakfast(we stayed 2 nights). Kudos to the 2-3 young ladies that had to work their butts off to clean rooms.

• Douglas (8/5): - The beds were clean and comfortable. The kitchenette was a bonus and reasonably stocked, although missing a dish towel for drying. Good pressure and temperature for the shower. The only faults were that the bathroom was narrow and only accessible through one of the bedrooms, more a surprise than a problem.
• Katherine (10/5): - The Crandall Lodge is quaint, clean and comfortable. There were actually dishes, dish soap and kitchen rags in the kitchen, and an ample fridge, making simple meals doable. The bath products were lovely and the towels were ample and soft. The deck needs to be fixed and stained, and the door locks were funky. Our first key was actually bent and didn’t work. The desk clerk was missing for 15 minutes at check in and didn’t apologize, explain, or seem very friendly. The breakfast waitress at the hotel was crabby and loudly complaining. Our dinner waiter on Friday evening was one of the best we’ve ever had, and dinner was exceptional. Other than those things, we had a lovely stay.

Not enough towels, no coffee supplies or cups for the coffee that was there, lamp beside the bed with nowhere to plug it, very very loud. Neighbors yelling and you could hear every conversation. Stains all over the entry...just run down other than the room itself.

Bathroom was upgraded in room which was good. Floors creaked every time you walked & bed had noisey springs that squeaked with slightest movement. I would not stay here again.

Property is older with some small reno’s in unit, but lack of attention to details such as huge gaps in vinyl plank flooring and overall noisy conditions (ie. lack of sound buffer between units) makes me rate this property as average.

• Jo-Ann (7/5): Disappointing room, great town. - The cleaning people around the property were lovely, as was the young check in person. The location was great. when I booked on boooking.com- I was told I had a 3 bedrroom. After I bookoed - it said "you have 3 beds". It never said in the description that we would have one double bed in one room with a bathroom, and 2 single beds in another room. THis means that the ladies in the 2 single beds had to come INTO the bedroom to use the bathroom. What is that? During the night, trips to the bathroom wakes up the person in the double room. I found it false advertising. It should be stated clearly that there is no privacy nor comfort in this room The room should have cost much less because of this.
• Jessica (5/5): Tolerable accom for 2 nights stay during good weather. Recommend spending most of your time outdoors, or giving it a pas - Within 10 mins walking distance of the main part of town, 5 mins walk to the lake. Peaceful area. VERY creaky floorboards and constant noise from upstairs people moving about. Beds are not very comfortable and very dark in the main living area. Bathroom location is odd, being within one of the rooms it’s impossible to use at night without waking the occupants. Cockroach ran over my dad’s face as he slept on the sofa bed.
• Nancy (2/5): Ruined our trip! Room not as pictured! - Don’t book here! We were excited to spend a couple of days there. So disappointed when we arrived upstairs to our room. No tv, no air conditioning, could not open window for cross ventilation, very small and claustrophobic room. We asked to upgrade, the staff was unsympathetic and said they would not help us as we booked through a third party. We decided that we could not stay, so we checked out right away. No refunds! Lost our money for 2 days. Ruined our trip, as we returned home. So disappointed!
• Jennifer (8/5): - At first glance, Crandell Mountain Lodge looks a bit sad. The deck needs painting, and the entry areas need refurbishing, however, the rooms we saw have been renovated. I didn't realize when I made my booking that the bathroom can only be accessed through the bedroom (this is the case in every Unit) We were a group of 2 couples, and this lay-out did not work for us, so one couple had to pay for an additional room. We were in Unit 7, which had 2 bedrooms, but the queen bedroom attached to the bathroom was so small it was a tight squeeze for an average size adult to get around the foot and side of the bed - that room was really only suitable for one adult or child. When we expressed our disappointment to the Management that the descriptions of their rooms don't indicate that the bathrooms are all en-suite, they obviously cared about our experience and wanted to make it right.

• Patti (4/5): Unacceptable - Pictures did not reveal that in order to get to the bathroom you had to go through one of the bedrooms. Felt like I was going downhill when going into the bathroom. The outside was dirty and had pain chipping and wood rotting. Also, the inside was not clean. Found a wad of hair next to couch. For the price some snacks or something would have been nice. And wash our dishes....really. Who knows how the last person washed. Gross.

The rugs need cleaning (or replacing) and the deck has rotting. Which could be a hazard.

Decor is like a 70s mobile home and the room carpet is disgusting. “Kitchen” table was sticky and the whole experience is giving roadside motel in some crappy town in the US. Sorry Crandall but $300 is only acceptable because there are no other vacancies nearby. You’d be better off camping or sleeping in your car. Bed is comfortable and sheets are clean but I’m pretty sure that little box in the corner is for trapping roaches or other little creatures.

Good wifi but no tv. Keurig, microwave & fridge in our room. We made our little breakfast and enjoyed it on the lodge patio. Would stay here again.
• Antonia (8/5): - The street appeal is a deterring yet the room itself was pleasant enough. It is an old building that could use a some TLC. The main door to the 4 units was noisy. Note: there was no TV in our room. The room itself was clean and comfortable.
• Michael (10/5): - We loved this little Inn. The rooms and freshly renovated and super quiet. Our room was quite warm, but with the fans it was still easy to fall asleep once it cooled off outside. My only suggestion to the owners would be to replace the rotten and damaged boards on the front deck, they really are a tripping hazard and unsafe its current state.
