Love having new set of towels everyday. Well done! And it's a safe accommodation for solo female with designated floor for ladies with bathroom and toilet. Location is convenient to tourist spot. I saw staff cleaning the bathroom area several times a day, so they did their best. The lounge area downstairs is comfortable and has good information about the area.

Room key cards are used to access shared bathrooms and showers, adding a layer of security. Fantastic amenities! Toothbrush and toothpaste is provided, and there is coin laundry on site. Staff is super nice! You can tell a lot of care goes into this property!

The room is super small (basically just the bed and have many strange rules and fees (new towels you can order only until 10AM,showers are closed after noon, penalty for every 30 mins of late check-out…). But overall good and I would stay again.

• 621elise (10/5): A perfect stay at The Pocket Hotel - would recommend! - We stayed for 3 nights at The Pocket Hotel, and loved it! We haven't stayed anywhere like this before. The room is small, so it takes a little bit of organising - but this is fine, it was the size we were expecting. We slept very well here - it was so quiet. Even managed to get back to sleep following a little earthquake! With my lanyard, I was able to use the showers on the Women Only floor as well as the ground floor showers. The showers were always incredibly clean, and I was often the only person in there - I loved the mirrors with lights! The location is great - we noticed the following morning after our first night how very, very close it is to Nishiki Market! We thought it was excellent value for money. To include breakfast at the nearby Doutor each morning was very much appreciated - a tuna or ham sandwich was great to start your day. Would strongly recommend - thanks very much!
• NorthernLive20 (10/5): Nice comfortable place in a great location - Very cool and high-tech. The rooms were a bit cozy, but the hotel is very clean, and also secure. Walking distance from many attractions. Features laundry the front desk staff are super helpful. It's in a quiet alleyway and it's easy to fall asleep without any trouble. The washrooms are down the hall but I never waited to use them. Showers are on ground floor, but there's plenty of them, so no need to worry about waiting there either.

Shower was great. 4. A middle-age man at the reception was very courteous, he bowed to me every time he saw me, must give him a credit. Not very comfortable drinking from the tap water. But the water tasted okay.

• Phillip (8/5): - As a solo traveler, the room itself was adequate in size for sleeping on a raised floor with mattress and limited luggage/backpack storage space. Have a shared shower, toilet, laundry area to use and a common area on main floor to eat and microwave food. There is a free storage area for luggage if you arrive early or for when checking out to retrieve it later in the day too. Staff was very pleasant to deal with and clean facilities. Location was close to Nishiki Market, Gion District and shopping.

The hotel staff were friendly and there was a wall of tourist information (where to go, how to get there and some context for the destination). The keycard could be put in a lanyard provided for safe keeping and loungewear/towels were provided daily. The showers were clean and come with body wash and shampoo only.

The amenities were great for the price and the staff was incredibly helpful with any questions I had. They also will hold your luggage/bags before and after checkout if needed. I felt safe and comfortable here. If I were to travel solo and if i had a tight budget again, I would choose the Pocket Hotel in Kyoto.

• Miler15 (10/5): Kyoto stay on a budget - I came across this hotel when I was looking for a place to stay a night during my last trip to Kyoto. I'd say that I am very happy about it. The hotel is located near to Nishiki Market and it is accessible to the central district of Kyoto. The amenities are good for a budget trip. Very clean comfort rooms, shower rooms, and the room we stayed in good for 2 persons. The staff were friendly and helpful. And it's cool to have experienced their automated checkout procedure. I'd love to stay here again if I am in Kyoto again.

• clemens495 (10/5): would defintely use again - if you don't need the bells and whistles of a hotel, then defintely check out the Pocket hotel. Clean and secure - nothing to worry about. Quiet and I mean quiet hotel. Friendly staff - we arrived around 7 and started to check in, the self KIOSK wanted a QR code didn't have one, the staff was right there to assist. The pictures on their website is exactly what you see. All rooms, and access to the washroom/laundry room is via your card key. you don't need to bring any ammenities, except maybe your hair brush :) as bedding, PJ's toothbrush, shower soap/shampoo, slippers are all provided. the main garbage bin are located in the hallway of each floor and yes they recycle. We were central to everywhere we wanted to be. If you select the breakfast option, you have your choice of 2 locations, one less than a minute away( literally around the corner the the right) and the other about a 2-3 minute walk to the left. Bus stops are just down the road and will take you to the Kyoto station. Depending what you're looking to do, all is either within walking distance, bus ride, subway or train ride away. there is also phamplets and maps in the main lobby to assist you if need and some of the staff speak english but don't fret because if the attending staff doesn't speak english, they will find one who does :) and offer their perference for getting around the city Would definetly look for more hotels/hostels(depending on what you would classify this as) as such, as we enjoyed this more than a normal hotel room. keep up the good work staff.

I didn’t even try the shower. It’s in a different floor! The room is about 150cms wide. It’s literally a capsule with a high roof. The location is excellent, though.

• Ewen (8/5): Great Modern Hotel, Noisy Guests - A modern, well thought out hotel experience. Good bathing facilities and well-kept shared bathrooms made for a pleasant experience. The room was spacious enough to get changed and hang clothes, and the bed was perfectly adequate. The only real concern was the noise made by other guests in the halls late in the evenings which was not taken care of by the staff. Normal noise would be fine, but running up and down shouting shouldn't be acceptable.

A very comfortable stay in a very clean and well-designed hotel. - Many thoughtful touches in the hotel showed that they put the customer at the heart of all their planning and considerations e.g. able to switch to warm heating instead of air con cool air on my remote; providing paper cups in the bathroom (useful for brushing teeth and drinking water direct from the tap), providing foam soap in the bathroom that is suitable for both face and body (I didn’t need to bring my own), providing hot water at the bathroom taps (useful for cold autumn mornings) which even big hotels don’t provide; providing floor mats in the shower room (to step out dry), as well as ear buds and hair dryer; providing several recommendations for restaurants, sightseeing and directions in English at the lobby; providing vending machines for hungry stomachs (but unfortunately no hot drinks); lockable options in luggage room; providing room wear (I didn't need to bring any) etc.

• StephanieC6220 (10/5): Top Notch Hostel - I was genuinely surprised by the quality of this hotel/hostel. It operates in a self-service manner that minimizes staff interference which may or may not be your thing (but also explains the low price it can achieve for a hotel in the main district). There are machines for checking in and out and staff will not make bookings FOR you (although they will happily lend you a local phone). On the other side, this hotel is properly taken care of - feels brand new; both rooms and bathrooms are really clean. Overall stay was very comfortable, although rooms are tiny, you will quickly get used to hanging out at the common area (charging ports provided). They have enough shower space on the first floor that makes sharing bathrooms a lot easier. During my stay I feel like most of the residents here are locals and they really respected the share space, they would clean up after using the sink, hurry-up if they see you enter the bathroom (giving you more personal space) and would acknowledge other guests in bathrooms/hallways etc.

The layout within the hotel is well designed. Very quiet and clean. The bathrooms are modern and relaxing. The hotel tablet is very useful operates air conditioning light. Contact hotel. Book the shower room and laundry room. The common area downstairs is open and relaxed although different seats for older visitors would be useful. The front of house didn't show the naps and magazine section. Which is very obvious of course. We found it later. Excellent location but very quiet. Off main thoroughfare. Look for breakfast vouchers when booking.

Their bathrooms and restrooms are super clean and it's really comfortable for guests. Staffs are friendly and helpful. They helped me with my ferry ticket even when it wasn't their concern. I'm grateful for that. Because of that help, I can continue my trip smoothly.

Imperial Palace, Yasaka Shrine and Maruyama Park are a close walk away.

The room is simple yet clean and shared toilet is very clean. The only struggle we had is finding it from exit 13. Its quite a long walk from Shijo station. But overall, we are happy with our stay. Will consider to book again in the future.

• WorldExplorer_1111 (10/5): Excellent experience in a modern and clean hotel close to tourists attractions - I have spent two weeks in this hotel (initially it was supposed to be one only but due to the typhoon in Tokyo region I have decided to stay in Kyoto). The room was indeed small but I was well aware of it. Nevertheless it has everything what was needed (including a tablet which showed the occupacy of toilets and showers; it also allowed turning the light on/off remotely). The hotel is very modern, bright and clean. Casual clothes are provided as well as tooth brushes, tooth paste, cleaning agents and so on. It is also very safe for solo travelers and women - one needs to use a badge to enter a floor and bathrooms. There are also cameras in the lifts and on corridors so I felt very safe there. Hot water and microwave are available so you can heat up your meal. There are also wasching machines on the ground floor. The stuff is really kind and helpful. If they have difficulties with English, they use translators which I really appreciated. Also the location was great. If you like walking, many destinations can be reached without a public transportation. If I ever come back to Kyoto, I think I will stay there again :)

• Traveller20175 (10/5): Excellent Hostel - Very nice and well located hostel in Kyoto. Has a nice lobby area for guests to eat or hang out. Rooms are bare minimum - ours was a small bunk bedroom with not much space to open suitcases. But we only used the rooms for sleeping and being in the 6th floor, was very quiet. We were given sleepware and bathroom slippers too. Towels are provided daily if you stay for more than a day. The bathrooms and showers are shared but super clean and lot of bathrooms and showers, which meant we never had to wait for one. The showers are separate for men and women and the women's shower rooms have a huge dressing area.The place also has 3 washer dryers, which can be monitored by a tablet given to us in our room. Staff is very friendly and store luggage if needed. Will definitely stay here if visiting Kyoto again.
• Tarawera99 (8/5): Compact but good - I stayed here for ages, and really enjoyed my stay. Rooms are pocket size but for solo traveller, it's perfect. Excellent location and quiet. I would often go to the market, have Japanese breakfast. Excellent amenities, comfy beds. Only thing that would make it excellent would be a small kitchen or something.
• LChan (10/5): - Location is great, short walk to Nishiki Market and Kawaramachi station isn't that far across the bridge.
• Analyn (10/5): Very good. - We enjoyed our stay. Staff are super helpful.
• 458appa (10/5): Very good location, clean, safety, convenient hotel - I reserved the single bedroom on the 3F lady floor with share bathroom. Very clean bathroom with disponsible toothbrush set, hair dryer, pyjama, towels, Of course you can request the new one everyday. With labtop, you can check the availble shower room or the rest room every floor and come once it's available to use. You can save the transportation charge because it's very easy to walk to NIGISHI MARKET, PONTOCHO, GION, HIGASHIYAMA,KIRAMISU DERA TEMPLE. l'm enjoy walking for sightseeing Kyoto my old town ;)
• keiraa2014 (8/5): Good but not the right fit for us - There are many plus points to this hotel: Location, very clean, almost new (opened October 2018), friendly staff, fresh fluffy towels, nice free shampoo, use of washing and drying facilities (extra cost). But it wasn’t the right fit for us as a family - two adults and two daughters, aged 7&9. Reasons being: There is no kitchen facility. At all. No fridge, cooking options, not even a kettle. There is one microwave, in reception. There is also a vending machine for snacks. But for us, with kids and on a budget, we need to be able to make a light breakfast at least. Secondly - The shared bathroom/showers (which again are very new and clean) are on the ground floor through reception. Not ideal as we were on the fifth floor. There are toilets on each floor. You can also check shower availability on the fancy tablets in each room. But for us going all the way down with kids was just an extra hassle. For some these wouldn’t be issues. It is a good hotel (I’d say hostel in reality). It’s designed to be functional (it lacks any character) so serves its purpose of a bed for the night. It just wasn’t the one for us. They allowed us to cancel the last three nights of our five night stay and get a refund for those nights. We then swapped to Resi Stay Brix which was awesome!! Check Resi Stay our for Kyoto as they have a few places. Hope that helps.
• 136ChrisH (10/5): Kyoto home - This was my second stay here and I loved it! Fantastic location in the middle of everything with easy access to all of the buses, Metro and trains. Plus there's a Ichiran ramen restaurant just at the corner! It might not be everyone's thing but, if your traveling to Kyoto, looking to explore that amazing city and need a comfortable and spotlessly clean place to stay at a great price, this is it. Perfect for the solo traveler though they have double rooms, as well. Staff are also excellent and will do whatever they can to help you out. Oh, and bed is super comfortable even for someone as big as me!
• Efren (10/5): - I am highly satisfied considering that this is a budget capsule hotel. Staff is very friendly and respectful. I will come back .

• Hila (8/5): No private bathroom - We have booked a private room with a private bathroom but we got a private room with a shared bathroom, the hotel was willing to refund us even though the room itself was non refundable, but we haven't be able to find a room within our budget so we decided to stay. Overall the stay was good and the shared bathroom wasn't busy most of the times.
• Tra. (8/5): - All are good, but more shower area would be better.
• GraceBu (10/5): - Pros: Strategic Location (very near Nishiki Market), provide daily sleepwear and towels, modern and clean bathroom, comfortable bed with ipad operating system Cons: Cleaning of room happens every 3 days unless requested, room may be too small for people with big luggage This was my first pocket hotel in Japan. I must say that this pocket hotel has impressed me, to the point where I will definitely come back to stay if I come back Kyoto. I had a very comfortable stay here, similar to any regular hotels. However, the room is rather small such that there isn't much luggage space, so it may be restrictive for those with big luggage or those who are claustrophobic. Nonetheless, totally value for money-service-room provided.
