Guest Reviews
- Marc (9/5): One of my most amazing stays ever - The place was absolutely stunning. What an amazing property with the wildebeest and zebras right on the property. The staff washed my car without being asked the caretaker of the whole place is the friendliest woman enjoyed every minute I spent there. The drive to this place is sketchy during the rainy season without having a car with four-wheel-drive. I did not have that car and I was quite very scared to be stuck. The drive included a portion where you drive through a river. And at least I did not have any cell phone reception at the gate to call the owners.
- Yury (10/5): On of the best places I've stayed in - We arrived after dark, driving up a rough mountain road through small villages and honestly weren’t sure what to expect. That’s why the place felt like such a surprise - at the top we found a beautifully maintained property with lush greenery and stunning cottages.
The staff were warm and welcoming, gave us a quick tour and made us feel at home right away. The views from the mountain are incredible.
The cottages themselves (we've occupied all 3 of them) are thoughtfully designed, stylish, and very comfortable. You can tell a lot of care went into the details.
The property is large, with plenty of space to explore, including hiking and running trails right outside your door.
Overall, a genuinely special place that completely exceeded our expectations. The place is self-catering and the nearest shop/restaurant is an hour drive away. You need to plan wisely.
Also, the hiking/running instructions were a bit too general, I went on a summit run in the morning and got lost. PDF is not the best instrument for navigation. That would be great if you could add GPX files with all the hikes to the web site, it would help a lot!

- Gcinumuzi (10/5): A wholesome time in nature and peace - Isolation, Mountain View’s, the the river source in the mountains, the outdoor shower, I can’t say
- Lotter (10/5): Arrive stressed and tired, leave refreshed and alive. - Peaceful, tranquillity, beautiful views, walks , no TV . Silent other than sounds of the birds. Felt safe . Rock pool ,accomodation . Outdoor shower ,bath and toilet getting back to nature. Full onsuite bathroom inside as well. Meditation but to sit and reflect on your life . The staff friendly and helpful when needed. Prayer rock to sit in silence and watch sunrise or have coffee and chill. The various trails and wildlife . Stay too short

- Paul (10/5): A very relaxing stay off the beaten track - Beautiful property in a stunning setting with amazing staff. Highly recommend
- Maria (7/5): Relaxing and peaceful - Very peaceful and great for a country farm retreat and breakaway Roads to the property are poor and it is quite far from Mbabane and other main centres
- Kudzai (10/5): Will definitely come back again with the fa - Excellent!!! Nothing

- James (10/5): - Beautiful location. Helpful staff. Would recommend to anyone. Internet is strong at reception (Starlink I think). But none in the rooms. A couple of boosters would fix this.
- Lindi (8/5): -
- Paul (10/5): - Great location with fantastic views. Attentive staff. Good hiking in the vicinity. Good and game birdwatching . Good location to break away from it all. We will definitely be back.

- Makhubela (10/5): -
- Regina Mosia (10/5): A true retreat - I loved everything. Wandile and Khaya were amazing! The scenery and nature were absolutely exceptional, it truly felt like a retreat. I had the best time ever and will definitely be back Nothing
- Mvikeli (9/5): - Nature and quiet. Distance of unpaved roads.
- Oupa (8/5): Excellent -
- Tim (10/5): -
- Lotter (10/5): Want heaven, this is the place to recharge the body mind and soul - Peace, beauty , private, tranquility. No technology at the house . Pure air . Nothing to disturb you . Outside bath and shower toilet. Getting back to nature as nature intended.Fire made at night. Prayer Rock at sunrise. Walks Just the unknown drive up the gravel road. BUT once there, all is forgotten .

- brita (10/5): - De vriendelijkheid van de mensen en de ontzettend mooie plek!!! Douche was moeilijk warm te krijgen en houden, maar charme van de plek weegt er volop tegen op!
- Mackie (10/5): I loved everything about the place. - It was self catering. The location requires a high car. They should work on their roads going there but it was a good experience.
- Sooben (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (9/5): A great relaxing place with friendly staff. - The lodge is stunningly situated and ideal for a perfect rest. If you are however planning on exploring the country, Wide Horizons is about an hours' drive away from tar roads with no shops, filling stations etc in the near vicinity. I however, loved it. There was nothing really to dislike. A heater would probably be a good idea in winter and when the power went off for a few hours, the paraffin lamp caused me an asthma attack.
- Dana (9/5): Superb - Amazing view from the cabin (basically from the bed too).
Outdoor shower was fun.
Very friendly staff.
Great hikes in the surroundings (especially the Summit trail), well maintained, marked perfectly on google maps. Catering opportunity would have been nice, not to have to carry groceries and cook, but by design this is not part of the property, so not a major disturbance.
- Nothando (9/5): Superb -
- Sammy (10/5): Exceptional - Awesome loacation, friendly staff
- Jocelyn (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful place to stay and equipped with everything you could want. Well worth the drive
- Darren (10/5): Tranquil and relaxing - We really loved this stay. The photos don’t do this property enough justice, it was absolutely gorgeous. The finishings were well thought-out and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcome. We enjoyed the hiking trails and natural swimming pool and wish we could have stayed longer. The drive along the gravel road was a bit gnarly, but fine
- Nelson (9/5): Superb - The place is amazing.
- Ray (9/5): Little taste of heaven’s peacefulness on earth. absolutely stunning view, peaceful and quiet getaway - Wonderful and friendly staff. Fantastic views
- Michaela (10/5): It was just what we needed and more - It was serene.
The views were stunning.
The room was perfect for a couples night away.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Beautiful location but guesthouse damaged by fire - Views are spectacular and staff are v nice (although poorly trained). Sadly a fire gutted most of the buildings and owners seem to have lost heart/budget leaving burned debri, piles of broken bottles etc lyng in the shells of buildings. Looks nothing like the pictures. There are 2 v nice separate chalets so if you are offered one and can ignore the burned buildings it could be fine.Roads are as bad as stated -impossible without a 4x4 and adbertised rock pool is very muddy - we couldn'ts swim in it (altho we normally enjoy swimming in natural pools, rivers etc) .Sad and I hope the owners can rebuild it as it is a beautiful location.
- Zandile (7/5): Good -
- David (1/5): Bad - The view Everything. I don't understand why people recommend places like this. The place was probably very nice in the past. Today the place is not getting any better. We received the cottage with dirty linens, there was a very unpleasant smell in the apartment. The only shower is inside the bedroom and the flow is simply not clear whether it is hot or cold. There are not enough cooking utensils.
It's a shame that people are hosted in places like this.
- Unarine (9/5): The stay was worth every cent. - Everything about the property is phenomenal. The rooms, the facilities, the area, the views. It is so beautiful. Just the fact of not having a Wi-Fi connection in the room we had booked.
- Julia (6/5): Pleasant - The house we ended up in staying was nice, with a nice kitchen and nice views. Zebras when we arrived. You need to be aware that parts of the resort burnt down. The pictures used here in booking.com are before this happened. Internet was not reliable and the Way Google maps suggested was cumbersome. The instructions with codes and way descriptions arrived too late.
- Wim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Harriet (10/5): Serene and Stunning views! - Thank you Takhona for your impeccable customer service experience and prompt updates & assistance⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️We had a fabulous Birthday stay😊
- Orhan (7/5): Good -
- Collen (9/5): Superb -
- Tholoana (2/5): The stay was ok - No breakfast. The Lodge is in an extremely secluded are, making it extremelydangerous to drive at night, as there's a lot of cows etc and the road is untarred(Gravel Road), with no lights on the roadThe place is extremely far form shops,Malls etc,and there is no restaurant on site. The fact that there is no restaurant on site, and the place is extremely far from town/shops and it's dangerous to drive on those roads as thy are gravel roads and the lodge does not state these factors on their website.
- Alwyn (8/5): Very good -
- Ike (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nerika (8/5): Very good - Beautiful location
- Jellien (10/5): Exceptional - Location and apartment were great! A super view from the hills, lovely host! Appartment was clean and perfect! The road to the property was terrible, would recommend at least a SUV. Only Wi-Fi at reception
- Simangaliso (9/5): Stunning place to be!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ - The location and view from the establishment were breathtaking and exceptionally relaxing. Unfortunately, the property suffered some damage due to an unforeseen fire incident. The room was impeccably clean, and the outdoor shower, bathtub, and kitchen were both stunning and uniquely designed. The privacy of our accommodations was greatly appreciated. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Although the mountain hiking was challenging, it proved to be an unforgettable experience; we look forward to returning. Observing the wild buck on the property was a delightful sight. The view of the village, alongside the moon and stars at night, was truly enchanting. Our three-day-stay seemed very short.
The working and leaving conditions for the staff could be improved. On our hike up the mountain, we met one of the staff members going down the mountain and learning that they have walk up and down the mountain every time they have to go to work, left a bitter taste in the mouth. That mountain will humble you and climbing it daily for work would be torture.
A little humane gesture towards staff would go a long way.
A little sink for disches in the room may be welcomed.
- Dumisani (10/5): Excellent - Bird watching The gravel roads to the lodge
- Mel (10/5): Lovely for a couple ♥️ - The views , the outdoor bath , the staff were very friendly. 10/10 I loved everything. There is nothing not to like.
- Thokozane (9/5): Superb -
- Takaedza (9/5): Superb -
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lizelle (8/5): Weekend stay - Very cute, clean cottage that has everything you need. The grounds are well taken care off and the staff were very nice to us. Room service was great! We hiked the mountain trail which takes you to the top of the Makungutsha mountains with stunning views. The drive on the dirt road to the retreat was a bit of a struggle and took longer than expected. Could have used a little bit more info before arrival (gate code, security details, wifi accessibility, etc).
- Mathias (9/5): Superb -
- Olivia (9/5): Lovely cottage with beautiful views - Beautiful location, very friendly and accommodating staff, the house had everything we needed, nice hike up the mountain
- Matsopyane (6/5): It was not pleasant as we went there for the bushfire concert traveling in the early hours of the morning in that road w - It’s beautiful with beautiful views It’s more the road to the property, it’s a horrible road and not worth the drive at all.
- Cristina (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing views, service, location, etc.! 10!
- Okuhle (8/5): Awesome staff. Bad road. - Firstly, the staff is amazing. The Manager is quick to respond and always wants to ensure you are left happy. The other staff members were also very kind and went of their way as well to ensure that we were comfortable. Privacy was always respected. Great place to be away from the city. The road to the place is horrendous. If you do not have a 4x4 - do not consider. We had to leave earlier to ensure we weren't affected by the rain the following day. However, the manager went out of her way to book us at their sister Lodge. Excellent service by her.
- Bbatista_mz (9/5): Superb -
- Friskin (9/5): Beautiful location! Would definitely recommend to others! Great bird life as well. - The views, the serenity, the quietness, just a nice break away. Couldn’t figure out cold tap for shower.
- Gaby (10/5): Best retreat you can think off - We never asked for a quiet room. All was simply perfect. We had the most beautiful Chalet, furnished with love, nothing was missing, an incredible experience and we will definitely be back. Friendliest staff at Reception, Gardeners and Security. Could not fault anything nothing
- Koen (10/5): Awesome place for a few days of relaxing - Great place for a few days of relaxing! Very friendly staff and nice hiking opportunities from the accommodation as well.
- Mitchell (10/5): Amazing stay, don’t let the road deter you. It’s not that bad. - Stunning property and views. The bed was comfy and the kitchen well equipped. Nothing.
- Ley (10/5): Great place in eSwatini almost top of mountain - Great and relaxing place, middel of nowhere. It was like me and nature.
Road to place was hard but possible to drive, great experience. Nothing

- Anonymous (8/5): Amazing - The friendly staff and hiking experience The Wi-Fi wasn’t the best
- Sibusiso (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sofia (9/5): Great stay - Beautifull big villa, we stayed here with 6 friends and had a wonderful time. Kitchen has everything you need, lovely views. Natural pool with mountain water was refreshing on a hot day. There's wine and beers you can buy and always someone standby during the day. 1 room had a (too) small double bed. We did not have problems with the dirtroad (suv) because of the dry season but when there's rain, it could be problematic without 4x4.
- Yara (9/5): Superb - Our stay at this mountain house was simply amazing. The cozy and peaceful atmosphere made our weekend extra special. The house is beautiful and well-maintained, and the Mountain View is spectacular. The hospitality of the hosts was exceptional. We can't wait to come back!
- Anonymous (7/5): The stay was good only to be ruined by the sneakers we forgot in the room only to disappear without a trace - The environment in the mountains The fact that on check out I forgot my new sneakers in the room only to realise the following day and I called the facility . They told me they will ask the lady who cleaned my room , I had to contact them again after four hours of not getting feedback to be told the sneakers are nowhere to be found. They told they still continue with investigation and there’s other guests in the room already as they checked in that very same Sunday afternoon that I checked out. I am extremely disappointed that our things are not safe there at all. I am a traveler and have never in my travelling in and out of South Africa experienced disappearing items that we forget .
- Sandile (9/5): Superb -
- Mapula (10/5): vavavoom stay - not appliccable
- Dorchanay (9/5): Superb - Amazing views and beautifully maintained garden.
- Mapula (10/5): vavavoom stay - the place is refreshing The road is bad. They need to revisit signage.
- Sithandile (9/5): Superb - The staff was super amazing. Communicated from the second the booking was made until departure. My room met and exceeded my expectations. It was very clean and comfortable. I will be returning for a longer stay. I wish there was an in-house chef to prepare my meals when I got lazy to.🙃
- Alex (10/5): One of a kind experience! - One of a kind place! Absolutely stunning environment and views, comfortable and original room (we had the Aloe room), amazing nature all around, super helpful staff, beautifully cared for.
Really you have to go there to understand. We went at a quiet time when we were the only guests which only added to the calmness and beauty.
Only thing is - getting there is an adventure in itself - so take your time and don’t be in a hurry so it’s enjoyable rather than stressful! We advise not to try and take the “high clearance” route as Google maps sends you the wrong way, so either get directions or take the “low clearance” route and enjoy the journey!
- Sven (9/5): Superb - Beautiful retreat. Very peaceful. Nice walking trails. Road is horrendous but doable, even with a 2x4.
- Nelson (9/5): Superb - The view from our room for the valley, the silence, the inhouse fireplace. House very well maintained and with every kitchen tools you need. in the dry season (which is the case) it's easy to get there with a car with good suspension. On the rainy season I believe it is quite challenging to go there. But that's the beautifull of the place: away from everything, living with nature!
- Niels (6/5): Pleasant -
- Steven (8/5): Very good -
- Monica (7/5): Nice place but a very rough road to get there - You definitely need a 4x4 to get there! It a serious rough road! The place in nice but not much to do to our tast. If you plan on cooking yourself than make sure you bring you food directly because there is no supermarket our anything. The cottage was lovely en very clean. Nice staff.
- Lbdiscoveries (10/5): Memorable place - would love to go back! - Absolute privacy in the unit we stayed in distance from the main building. Amazing sunrises and sunsets overlooking the valley - worth waking up in the morning to make coffee, go and sit on the dedicated area to watch the sun rise.
Nice setup: the bedroom, bath, WC is 1 open plan and from the bed you have a view. Outside shower. The kitchen is open next to the unit with table, fridge and stove. Next to that is your own private BBQ, and a 10 second walk to your own area to watch sunrises.
We absolutely loved the place, and would really like to go again (and again) when we travel to Eswatini.
The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Tip for others: high-clearance vehicle to get there recommended and for our private unit you need to take few steep steps and no Wifi there.
- Masemola (8/5): gravel road spoils the place - the place is quite and peaceful the road to the place need to be developed its not friendly its gravel for 8km bad on cars
- Clare (9/5): Beautiful stay in the mountains - The location was incredible, so quiet! It's in a really beautiful location in the mountains. The house was gorgeous. The staff were really friendly and helpful. It was great there was the little shop where we could buy essentials, and wine! The journey was a challenge, the shorter route from Matsapha area turned out to be much better and easier so i recommend taking this one.
It would be great if they could provide some very basic food items like salt and tea.
- Slindile (9/5): Superb -
